Are Schools-of-Choice Still Relevant?

New topic...not sure how/where to start a thread.

Lots of of reports of fights at Greece Odyssey from parents/students currently there. A huge increase from just 2-3 years ago I am told.

Any truth to the rumours?

I have a child entering 5th grade in the fall and another in 3rd. Thoughts on whether to apply for them to go there via School of Choice lottery? What is the value add of Odyssey over let's say Athena which would be there normal district sending school?

If you can handle the truth here is an unbiased opinion. Send your kids to a private school or charter school. You get one chance to educate your child. Trusting the Union to provide an education was not in the best interest of my children and I do not believe that it would be in the best interest of your child. In the GCSD keeping up appearances is what is important. Gotta keep that money rolling in period.

To 12:09PM ~~ We absolutely agree that private school is tops. Not all charter schools are created equally, so "buyer" beware. You might want to avoid a charter related to the Gulen School movement, too ;)

To 8:45AM ~~ One thing we've learned after 10+ yrs. of moderating this BLOG is that few rumors related to GCSD are ever proven false. Personally, I can think of only one, and technically the person no longer worked here anyway.

As things continue to slide in the city, it is pretty safe to assume that things will continue to slide in Greece. Why do you think we needed a new police HQ?? To detain/process more vermin.

Maybe King Willie should read this and learn how to be ready for the next event.

If he actually did something along these lines Greece might not look so stupid when the wind blows and the water rises.

To 5:43PM ~~ That would seem to be akin to our wondering WHY he didn't utilize the NUMEROUS trained CERT volunteers within the community. When you ignore or refuse to employ resources you already have and that COST NOTHING MORE (than what was previously invested in training them), then you deserve to sink ... literally.

Lakeshore residents should be grilling him over this!

BTW, WTH is Leary?? If he doesn't do SOMETHING to at least pretend he's running for office, then he's wasting everyone's time!!

Are schools are so good our leaders swear by them. That's why the Chief selected Mercy for his girls.
