How Low Can We Go?

 Anonymous said...
The town is going to hell. Tonight I was cut off at Mill and Long Pond by about 30 punks on rice rocket motorcycles. Two of them blocked the intersection while the others ran the red light. They all then flew down vintage swerving all over the road, while the GPD SUV drove by the other way and did NOTHING! Nice to see our public servants are earning their salary in this town. Tax dollars well spent!

8:59. In the interest of public safety , tell us how you would expected the officer to handle that situation ?

To 7:12AM ~~ For starters, how about putting in a call for back-up?

King Willie 1st said...

The SUV cop was already fully occupied texting or talking to his girlfriend about their plans for when he got off duty, and no damn outraged taxpayer was supposed to notice the cop was scared of the rice burner riders, let alone post about his inaction.

For the love of God, Monroe County cops all got digital radios and MDT devices so the taxpayers can't monitor their radio traffic. Taxpayers have no right to expect a $100,000 a year CyberCop in a pretty uniform to chase a crotchrocket mob. He might miss doughnut break collecting all their licenses to feed into the car computer to print tickets.

By doing his job, and not by driving by and leaving the other motorists lives in danger. That is what he gets paid for, right?

I was hoping that8:59 would answer but seeing as how you commented I will respond to you. Backup for what? Are you suggesting that in his oversized under powered SUV he turns around and initiates a chase of those 30 or so croch rockets and in the process call for another car or two to join him.? Not a practical or good idea if one considers what's in play here not to mention the threat to the general public safety being placed in jeopardy by such an unwise decision. I'm sure you've observed the speed and manuverabllty of those machines. His vehicle or for that matter , even the higher powered additional GPD cars are no match for them when trying to catch and apprehend the riders.Trust me nothing good would result in that kind of operation.
In my opinion, the officer made the right decision not to pursue. However I'm sure he called it in to 911 center thereby making all cars in Greece and the city and nearby towns aware of these idiots
I'm willing to bet that the GPD has a written policy covering situations like this as to whether or not pursuit is allowed in the interest of public safety and plain old good common sense. Besides left to their own devices, some of them would suffer ultimate penalty for their show of bravatity when they rap themselves around a tree or some other fixed object and meet their maker. I believe in the past week, we had three bikers killed . One maybe thru no fault of his own, the others, one described by a witness as traveling in excess of 100 MPH, paId the highest penalty , the loss of his life. Insanity plain and simple is the only way to describe some, not all, who choose to ride these "Killer Cycles"!

To 3:06PM ~~ I completely agree with 2:38PM !! It's interesting that you are so "sure" it was called into 911. To what end, if not to pursue??

By allowing these gangs to takeover the roads EVEN IN FRONT OF COPS sends the WRONG message. It imperils the rest of us who observe the laws.

Expected responses to this alleged incident. Although these types are group law breakers, their shear numbers on the move makes it difficult at best to control an incident of this magnitude. In the first place, if anyone really believes these suicidal idiots will stop when being pursued by a PD car your are wrong. They know they can out run them and will do so and in the process put lives in danger. The police know this and will not and should not respond in this manner. They are in the business of protecting lives and property and not putting citizens lives in jeopardy .so by not initiating a dangerous chase, he did not"IMPERIL" the the rest if us who observe the laws.
With consideration of this blogs continued criticism of local law enforcement ,I think it would be fair to say that if the officer initiated a chase resulting in the injury or worse by the rest of us who obey the laws, this blog would now take the position that the officer was wrong to pursue and should have excercised better judgement and should be held accountable . Where this site is concerned , a no win situation for this officer.

To 7:15AM ~~ Let's take out an ad & tell the world what you just said: "Greece NY knows it can't stand up to gang activity and won't interfere." Let them takeover the roads and spread their intimidation from there. Seems like the perfect answer ... NOT.

Anonymous said...

To Anonymous Said, first of all you sound to me as if you are easily intimidated, secondly, at least they had the sense to block the light so that their entire group could get through the intersection. Do you complain at funeral processions too? I am not condoning the fact that they blocked the intersection, but it sounds like they did it for a reason and not to be malicious. As far as the one manned car driven by a police officer, REALLY what did you expect him to do? Turn into their path? Cause an accident possibly a riot, which I doubt. But seriously what did you expect him to do? And how do you know it wasn't a planned motorcycle funeral... !!!? Pick your battles, there's bigger issues going on that you should direct your energies to. We need to protect our country, our county, our town from ever experiencing what Orlando Florida just experienced.

SCATS said...

To 3:36PM ~~ There are several Anonymous Saids who have posted. I think the original poster DID "pick his battle" by deciding THIS ISSUE makes for a good one. Comparing this completely ILLEGAL activity to a funeral procession is beyond ridiculous! As for Orlando, hopefully Greece doesn't have any similar nightclubs. Sorry, but that particular "choice" is not one supported here. DON'T BOTHER WITH ARGUING ABOUT IT EITHER. We ARE ENTITLED to hold AND express that opinion under the Constitution.

What number of motorcycles equal a gang? Since that is what they were called above? Most Police departments in Monroe County including the sheriff have a no chase policy with motorcycles. The less well informed never post here. Typical all arm chair generals.

SCATS said...

To 5:09PM ~~ Thirty+ states define a gang as 3 or more. That was our intented number ;)

Anonymous said...

who said anything about chasing. At least turn around and make an attempt that you care. So if I drive like a nut down the road I can figure nobody is going to do anything about it?

Anonymous said...

Since this was started by me, I will end it. If the idiots do it again and I'm going through the intersection, I'll run one bike over and the GPD can arrest at least one of them. Maybe, then there will be some accountability.

SCATS said...

To 4:49PM ~~ That would likely be a poor choice.

I always carry Magnum spikes in my car for just such situations.
The bad bike boys will all be waiting at the curb for the police to get there after they run over my Magnums.

You can get your own set on eBay.

Mill & Long Pond is going downhill fast!
It's because of all the Bryant & Stratton people driving thru there. That place has lowered neighborhood social standards terribly.

Bryant & Stratton doesn't even pay Property Taxes.

SCATS said...

To 1:07AM ~~ Whay about Maiden Ln & Mt. Read Blvd? GCSD doesn't pay taxes either, but allows theft of services by non-residents.

Anonymous said...

4:49. Are you serious ? You would actually do that.?Not onl as Scats said "a poor choice" but I might add an
unconscionable statement. By doing this you would definitely draw law enforcements attention resulting in your arrest and ultimate conviction of assault or if it results in the death of the offending biker, murder and jail time. An expensive way for sure on making your point and getting accountability and a bang for you tax dollars.
