DUI Barbie ... ?

Former soccer star, Abby Wambach - donating brain to science.

SCATS ~~ It might be best to keep your brain until you're done with it, Abby!

Justice mandates also running a picture of King William's son in this thread.
After all, Abby wasn't driving a Town of Greece truck when she got busted for DWI.

Actually a picture of the former Airport Director should run too, as well as Maggie's guy who was so drunk his wife (also drunk) had to drive his County Car.

Why is Abbys singled out? Is she on the Town or County payroll?

To 8:40PM ~~ She's just another athlete who ends up disappointing, as is so often the case. Don't forget, Greece's homegrown role model is J-Mac. SMH ...

I'm insufficiently conversant with J Mac to know how he has let the community down as a roll model. Last I knew he was employed by Wegmans and doing his job. Truthfully calling him an athlete/roll model seems a bit of a reach for a kid who made a single appearance in a basketball game. I also recall this kid had been in a position of some level of team management, although I don't know what that was. GCSD taxpayers didn't spend on J Mac what they spent on hundreds of other disappointing athletes including a couple hockey players I can think of.

In regard to Abby, tonight's TV 10 news carrys the following;
" ** Update **

Abby Wambach issued the following statement on her Facebook page.

"Last night I was arrested for DUII in Portland after dinner at a friend's house. Those that know me, know that I have always demanded excellence from myself. I have let myself and others down."

"I take full responsibility for my actions. This is all on me. I promise that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my horrible mistake is never repeated."

"I am so sorry to my family, friends, fans and those that look to follow a better example."

Abby Wambach"

I can accept that statement as Abby Wambach owning her mistake, and moving ahead to rectify it.
What happens in the next few weeks will tell us if she is being honest or not.

What did JMac do?

SCATS said...

To 12:59AM ~~ Mini-Cooper has already pulled Wambach's ad. Consequences are FAST where FAME is involved.

To 3:48PM ~~ Like Wambach, he met a President. The difference is, Wambach scored lots of goals without any "assistance" by having the opposition back-off to make it possible.

Mini-USA statement: "This behavior is against the values we promote as an organization and the safety of everyone on the road is a priority here at MINI. Because of this, we are re-evaluating her association with the brand and are pulling content that individually features Abby from our marketing," the company said in a statement. "We will continue to assess the situation and weigh our options."

Is there a point to all the paw swatting of the J Mac kid?

Honestly, I can't find a reason for him being in this thread for any comparison purpose. I recall J Mac being a high functioning Autistic kid who did his best to overcome Autism. I recall he graduated High School, and got hired at Wegmans. I don't recall him seeking publicity, even though much was thrust his way.

WHY is he being compared to Abby?

SCATS said...

To 1:15AM ~~ Short answer: Athlete/"role model".

As for your statement: "I don't recall him seeking publicity..." REALLY?? He has done all sorts of media appearances (his former coach still uses him for personal, financial gain), written a book (with help), seeks a movie deal, etc. Try Googling his name ;)

Rut-roh!!! Looks like Abby isn't as angelic as we thought! Now she's admitted to using cocaine & marijuana in the past. What next??

Obviously, all these stone throwers have never done anything stupid in their lives (more likely, they just never got caught). Abby is taking responsibility for her actions.

SCATS said...

To 4:05PM ~~ This has NOTHING to do with the masses. If you are going to accept the position of being a role model for kids, which she absolutely did for MANY years, it might be best to "JUST SAY NO" to cocaine, other illegal drugs, alcohol, etc. When these role models fall, they crash hard.

Better yet, MAYBE it's time we find role models who are great students, invent something useful, go out of their way to show others what it means to have morals, ethics and a solid sense of right vs. wrong.

It's seems to me we already have those roll models in our midst . They are those who make up the SCATS consortium who are without human failings.

Occurs to me that right now Abby is perhaps at her best as a role model.

Abby screwed up.
Abby got BUSTED!

Abby is owning her mistakes, admitting she made them, NOT blaming them on anyone else,
Taking the consequences!

That course of action is a hell of a lot different from the normal 37 lawyers with trial cases standing before the Bar throwing their best pitch to get the Athlete off.

To 2:24PM ~~ ANYONE who takes a drink then drives is just plain irresponsible & lacking in personal accountability. There is NO EXCUSE ... EVER for drinking & driving, period.

To 2:33PM ~~ Well said. Agreed ... but let's see if this sticks with her longterm.

Regarding the incidental comparing of J Mac with Wambach on this thread, I found it interesting to learn that J Mac is a member of the Razor Shark Professional basket ball team. I learned this during sports broadcast of a recent game and showed J Mac making one of his famous 3 pointers. I would say he was success story of local interest given the circumstances he had to overcome.

To 5:37PM ~~ It don't take much to impress you! LOL

In reality (a KEYWORD), he was allowed to join the roster for the last night of their season in celebration of the 10 yr. anniversary of the Athena game.

He is NOT a regular team member!

So much for "success."

SCATs. I stand corrected However yes I am impressed by this young mans accomplishment in light of his disabilities . I Am not impressed at by your attempt to minimize this fact.

SCATS said...

To 7:46AM ~~ Please specify, WHAT accomplishment? He was made to be a "hero" by certain folks who then used his fame for their own fortune. In his own right, he has been able to sink a basket since middle school days. Again, your standards for measuring success set the bar very low.

Retired U.S. soccer star and Pittsford native, Abby Wambach, pleaded guilty to DUII Tuesday following her arrest in Portland, Oregon earlier this month.

According to our affiliate, KGW in Portland, Wambach is entering a diversion program after changing her initial not guilty plea, court documents say.

Police said Wambach ran a red light at Southwest 13th Avenue and Taylor Street on April 2. She showed signs of intoxication after a sergeant pulled her over, and was later arrested on a DUII charge.

Looks like Abby is making positive motion.
Hopefully she moves ahead.
