Another Day, Another GCSD Scandal Brewing

Anonymous said...
Happy birthday SCATS! Athena High School upcoming musical is a sham! Spencerport school district student has the lead in the musical. (Hill Creek Lane 14626) The family has apparently "rented" an apartment at North Glenn Apartments. The district has done an "investigation." The rented apartment has no furniture, no RGE account, and no PEOPLE living in the apartment. Happy birthday!

The student knows the best......

SCATS said...

To 7:08PM ~~ They are running the district, that's for sure.

Anonymous said...

They didn't have enough talented kids to play the lead? Who in there right mind would rent an apartment in Greece? Maybe Pittsford, but not Greece.

SCATS said...

To 9:30PM ~~ It's been a way to "steal services" for decades. Originally, it was used as a way to establish residency for city kids to play sports (basketball mostly) on Greece teams.

Anonymous said...

This is a deeper problem and deserves more than a glance. It is rumored that the favoritism extends beyond an outside student having the lead role in the play. Other music students have been pressured into not pursuing activities outside of the program at Athena. What is acceptable practice at all of the other schools in Greece is not allowed. Some students accepted the demand, some just quietly and sadly went away.

Lscarpulla said...

Absolutely!!!!

Lscarpulla said...

Yes. That would have been my daughter moved on to Arcadia at the freshman level. We had a story and we're stifled at the principal level. With no permanent superintendent in place, we just moved on. It was devastating. Narcissistic behaviors run rapid in that department leading to lies, embellishments and misconduct. Please....parents and students....don't be afraid to stand up for what is right. Our children deserve a healthy and we'll adjusted music program. Come forward. It is the only way to get "more than a glance" from the district.

Anonymous said...

The sad thing about all this is AHS principal and the superintendent have push this under the rug. This information has been reported to them time and time again but they have chosen not to do anything about this. This has affected so many students and families! It's really a total let down that the people you think will help - turn the other way!!

Lscarpulla said...

Lastly...knowing our district and Greece community is supporting a Spencerport student and not supporting the Greece students, who deserve to be treated fairly in the music program,is so wrong. It is inconceivable, what a parents and educators will do, to guarantee success for a child. Not caring who they hurt along the way.

Anonymous said...

Why is this student allowed to do the musical if they don't live in the district?

SCATS said...

To 12:27PM ~~ Those at the top just don't give-a-damn ... unless or until it becomes a media firestorm involving their name. Negative press works in GCSD.

To 12:50PM ~~ It's a case where this student has apparently set-up a phony residence by renting an apt. in Greece to use as an address.

Anonymous said...

This makes me sick but I'm not surprise. Another great way tax money is being spent!

Anonymous said...

Exactly what about supporting "Greece" students- we do pay the tax $$ The last time I checked. Sham on everyone who has covered up all of this! This is another bulling and harassment case for the district, just what Greece needs.

Unknown said...

Is this being investigated? And if it is under investigation, why is the student allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities? Will they send her back to spencerport after the show ends? Maybe that was the plan all along...

Anonymous said...

What is this about music students have been pressured into not pursuing activities outside of the program at Athena?????

Anonymous said...

What a great lesson to teach your kids ... " How to get away with F R A U D ". I hope the parents of this student feel real comfortable at the Musical. I hope a few people call them out !

Anonymous said...

Who is investigating?? Has anyone even gone to the music program families to ask what they know?! (hint hint) This isn't a secret. They live in their big spencerport house & drive their daughter to school/rehearsal everyday. The parents know, the students know... and everyone has been waiting for the administration to do the right thing

Anonymous said...

The APAC QUEEN always gets her way or war is declared

Anonymous said...

It's about time the distric take responsibility for what AH music department has done, look at the freshman that was harassed and bullied by the music department and she ended up dropping all her music classes. Typically day at Athena HS.

SCATS said...

What we don't understand is WHY THE PARENTS AREN'T STORMING THE BOE DURING RESIDENT'S FORUM WITH THIS RIDICULOUS CRAP?

My God parents! GET A BACKBONE! Do something BIGGER, not just for your kid!

This stuff happens over & over again because everyone is too afraid to take a stand and make it stick.

Anonymous said...

Rumor has it that a student was told she could not participate in an out of school show choir if she wanted to participate in the AHS show choir. The student was basically harassed and the principal was "so kind" as to quietly remove her from the conflictual music classes and put her in study halls. Probably wanted to keep things quiet for the music staff. He wasn't protecting the student at all.

Anonymous said...

Intro to FRAUD is a mandated program at Greece Central Sports District.

After all, a map with driving directions to 111 Westphal Road is included with every Diploma. One of the last classes is How to get your ass on Food Stamps so you don't have to rob a Wegman store. It is a morning session on the same day with How to recognize Security CCTV cameras.

Anonymous said...

I agree! Speak up people - anonymous or not. Call, send a letter, contact the radio & news media - Lonsberry, Birkley Breen. Make them notice! a letter was sent to the principal & the superintendent in December about the residency fraud. And NOTHING was done. Another letter was sent to the principal, superintendent & the BOE in February. And NOTHING was done. More people need to speak up for anything to happen.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't "The Spencerport Mom " work for the choreographer of the Musical.????
This is unbelievable. People know what's right and what's wrong .. And should act accordingly !
Where is the accountability ????

Anonymous said...

Parents aren't storming because of fear of retribution

Lscarpulla said...

Yes. This is very true. I know, all of what these parents are feeling, all too well. They are fearful their child will suffer consequences. Don't let these educators scare you or bully your child. You all have rights. Stand confidently and support one another.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it interesting that the mother of the student works at A TOuch of Dance? Guess who the choreographer of the musical is? That's right Judy Brondon owner of a touch of dance! Who directs the summer show at a touch of dance? That's right Kathryn Dyer! Smells fishy! Did these 3 adults try to pull a fast one? The message they are sending to kids and families Is if you are affluent, smart, talented, well behaved work and have connections ( mother, Brondon, dyer) you get what you want and if you don't SOL! Shame on Greece if they don't take action!

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't the district just ask the kids? Has anyone been to said apartment? Or if they are invited do they go to Spencerport home? Maybe the district could send an edible arrangement to the apartment and check on it in a week? Rotten fruit then you have your answer!

Anonymous said...

All these things have been reported by numerous parent and students with promises it will be investigated and taken care of

Anonymous said...

Proud to be a Greece resident were you pay taxes for everyone else

Anonymous said...

So is anything going to be done about any of this? Seems like Athena's Music program and the APAC Queen are out of control

Anonymous said...

Take a stand to try and make it stick and your child is permanently BLACK balled from the high school vocal music program. No one can do it because it will be instant death for their child's participation in the higher choirs, any smidgen of attention in voice class or, God forbid, get more than a 5 minute walk on in the show. Everyone's hands are tied, which is why this is the responsibility of the administration! Someone, PLEASE do something. This crap has gone on WAY TOO LONG!

SCATS said...

Re: RETALIATION: We are aware this is how GCSD often reacts in these situations. The only solution is for parents TO BAND TOGETHER. UNIFY. BECOME ONE VOICE. USE IT LOUDLY & CLEARLY!!

You MUST coalesce and informe various media with something of substance. Another idea would be to organize a demonstration at a BOE meeting, giving ALL local TV channels plus the D&C notice that parents WILL be there in numbers. There's no bigger nightmare for GCSD Admin. than parents WILLING TO GO ON THE MEDIA RECORD WITH THIS TYPE OF COMPLAINT. Shaming works.

Anonymous said...

After seeing all of this I don't want to wait until the next Board meeting. I'll be contacting the D&C and Birkely Breen/Bret Davidson of Ch 10 tomorrow with the information I have to share. I hope everyone else does the same!

Anonymous said...

Another rumor of course was the girl who they harassed danced at a touch of dance to but was forced to quit after she didn't go along with dyer makes you wonder

Lscarpulla said...

I don't know how any of them sleep at night. Yes, there is a connection with Touch Of Dance. The reputation of both programs has drastically deteriorated. They even create false or exaggerated bios for themselves and their students. Using these bios in our school programs, and for college preparation and auditions. It's not right. They are inflating egos and depending on the student, building false hopes. I am trusting the district will make a move and turn this around for the good of the Greece community. Hoping this thread will increase the urgency to do so with an impact that will make history!

Anonymous said...

People don't go to the public forums for obvious reasons. They are identified. Some would rather post here for the opposite reason hoping someone else will stick their necks out and fight their battles for them.
I've said it before and I will say it again, anonymous complaints will have zero impact. Only a positive organized public response that draws the attention of the local media will have a positive impact and has a chance to be successful. When CARE was active, they were successful In having an impact on important issues like opposing and defeating budgets.
Someone needs to step up and organize a group to fill the void created by the demise of CARE. There is always strength in numbers.

Anonymous said...

What is the district policy for residency? Curious if it is only as of a certain date (Sept 1 say?) That may have a lot to do with how and the priority of which this is being dealt with.

SCATS said...

To 10:08AM ~~ You couldn't be more wrong. First of all, CARE was a one-note group: TAXES. They didn't give-a-damn about the rest of it ... well, OK sports was an interest at times. But that was it.

Secondly, after 10 years, we can tell you that DOZENS upon DOZENS of stories BECAME NEWS because of what this BLOG reported.

To 10:14AM ~~ I just read the policies. As usual, a lot is up to admin. especially if the kid claims to be "homeless." In GCSD, policies are made to be ignored. They do it all the time.

Anyone who takes this to the media should remember Time-Warner ch. 9 in their contacts. They often give better coverage.

Anonymous said...

I think it's when people have stuck out there necks many times and still nothing happens.
This isn't just about a residence issue it's about abuse of power, there seems to be a lot of harassment going on, a bunch of afraid kids/parents and a whole lot of other issues and it's all coming from the same department.

It's about doing the right thing for the kids, since we are trying to educate them the right way and hopefully the teachers, principles and elected official can follow suit but it look like in this case they keep dropping the ball.

SCATS said...

To 11:40AM ~~ BIGGER PICTURE: This is a district-wide issue, not solely an Athena issue. GCSD bullies parents, teachers & students frequently. We don't understand why the GTA allows it when teachers are targeted. Politics is likely. Look at the composition of the BOE! Everyone of them has union ties.

The BIG KAT said...

Listen Up Chumps!

Nobody in this administration gives a damn about your little Twinkletoes or Elvis. We at GCSD Headquarters have charts and graphs showing none of them will ever go beyond a garage band or butt wiggler for a garage band, and most will wind up fetching plates of swill in a short lived Mall restaurant.

WE are dedicated to producing at least a hand full of Graduates who have income producing ability after graduation in each Class, and we have a track record. GCSD has produced several athletic thugs who actually had paid jobs in athletics and athletic support.

Our Bored and our Administration are in full agreement on this.
We also do not want to hear anything about the MegaBucks piano we keep in an air conditioned room as a monument to prior achievement by Administration.
Go ahead, call and text all the reporters you can, we don't care. Twinkle & Elvis are on the bottom of the list we care about, and they will remain there.
We don't care, we don't have to care, and we won't care. We have Degrees and Credentials in Bullshit, and Air Tight Contracts.

Thanks for contacting District Office

These problems are a natural human dynamic: the only people who have enough information to make effective complaints are the parents of children in these same programs, and those parents don't want to rock the boat, they want to get ahead. Those who are outraged are further from the problem, and thus lack the information or motivation to take effective action.

Greece sports has long been similar, e.g. with respect to the ultimatum to choose to play for the district or play on a conflicting privately organized team, but not both (just as with the girl who had to choose one choir or the other, but not both). All the insiders know, but they are precisely the ones most willing to go along to get along. Outsiders "know" at the level of hearsay, not enough to compel action.

This won't end. There is no reason to act for those who would make a difference if they did.

SCATS said...

To 2:03PM ~~ Whenever I read advice like yours, it reminds me of the expression: "If you aren't part of the solution, then you're part of the problem."

Anonymous said...

I disagree SCATS ! CARE Was effective for the reasons you critically expressed. Unlike your 10 yr trip which has no clearly defined purpose other than to provide a forum for anonymous critics of everything that goes on in this town.

SCATS said...

To 4:13PM ~~ You just disproved your own statement! IF WE KNEW about "everything" that was going on in this town, SCATS wouldn't have survived for even one year ;) That's the thing about serial scandals ... often one leads to another which leads to yet another ... get the picture? Greece has more dirt to sweep under its carpet than can be hidden.

Anonymous said...

Just because this blog is obsessed with the word SCANDAL not everything you just said ,you don't know about every, thing that goes on in the town ,does not necessarily fall into that category just because you say so. The original topic of this thread is not fair and indeed unfortunate. That being said a scandal it does not make. Actually that comment came as somewhat of a shock as I was under the impression that the opposite was true. The real problem is the State Law that allows these situations to take place. The law that describes what factors identify a homeless person needs to be revised. As it now stands it constitutes a legal loop hole that has been taken advantage of not only here, but statewide. As it stands now to be declared homeless and as for resiidency requirements, it depends on where that person, sleeps at night not necessarily where he or she actually lives.

SCATS said...

To 10AM ~~ Dream on! In reality, the BIGGER SCANDAL here is that Greece Central CHOOSES to NOT go after students stealing services from Greece taxpayers! Other districts have done so, with a fair degree of success. GCSD Admin. just doesn't give-a-damn! And yes, I say so.

BTW, the definition of scandal:an occurrence in which people are shocked and upset because of behavior that is morally or legally wrong. Seems to fit THIS thread!

Anonymous said...

SCATS--- "Other districts have done so, with a fair degree of success." Show me please...

SCATS said...

To 12:07PM ~~ One of our senior BOE members looked into this. Henrietta topped the list. Of course, their Supt. is our former #2 guy.

Anonymous said...

They think this is a joke and are laughing at us right now, they don't care about any of this as long as they get a pay check at the end of the week. they could care less about tax money being spend the wrong way , or that she might have taken another (greece) students spot, that she has been given opportunity only a (greece) student should have been given (chance for a scholarship) Dyer walking her around like she's a god. they could care less if your child was harassed and left the program. Those are the lessons the kids are learning in school WELCOME TO GREECE!!!

Anonymous said...

Updated news flash dyer, Brondon, richerson and Graupman all have front row tickets to watch how they screwed the students, tax payers, gc ... Wouldn't want to miss that one!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Love the definition posted of scandal and it perfectly describes the original issue posted at the top of this thread. Athena's leading lady LIVES in Spencerport. Her family has been blessed with financial stability and a beautiful newly renovated home in Spencerport, NY. They live there, sleep there and eat there. They drive to Athena every morning from there and they return there. They pay Spencerport school taxes. They rented an apartment in Greece so she could go to Athena and be in the musical. The apartment has never been used. I am putting my faith in the new administration with this residency situation. But will it truly be solved? She didn't decide to do this on her own - there are people hiding behind the front line here. They have been doing it for years. The foundation of this program is built on deceit and lies that started years ago. The old regime lived with the same MORAL code as the new. The new learned from the best - now retired, who were most influential in the make up and personality of the current community in question. Dealing with the "family" wont fix this situation - GCSD needs to deal with the people who encouraged and supported the families decision. This part of the problem is what I fear won't be addressed.

SCATS said...

To 3:06PM ~~ A cure for their laughing would be for a group of parents to quietly arrive carrying signs that tell the story to the REST OF THE CROWD. No need to get loud, just get even :)

To 4:52PM ~~ It's amazing how often I have to post definitions of middle school vocabulary in discussions on this site. I wonder if Spencerport parents need as much guidance ... ? I agree with you about the moral issue and code of GCSD admin. ;)

Anonymous said...

Who gives a flyin flip?

It's not like this kid from Spencerport carrys a ball or a puck, or even runs.

Anybody think this kid will learn a damn thing that allows the kid to do more than sign up for Welfare after Greece Central Sports District?
Greece is all about balls and playing with balls and other Sports crap.

For crap sake, the kid can't even lead a cheer.

Acting, we already got a truckload of people ACTING like they can teach school to divert attention from the true SPORTS mission.
We need a STADIUM, with LIGHTS and a loud PA system!

Anonymous said...

We got a 9 foot Grand Piano that lives in a climate controlled room that nobody is allowed to play. The door that protects it is even connected to an alarm so nobody can touch the piano.

We even have a 7 foot Yamaha piano that gets played so the high priced piano nobody will even consider buying doesn't have to make a sound.

It's perfectly logical we should have a kid from Spencerport pretending to live in an empty apartment to be the lead in a chickenchoke school play. What greater exercise in acting than Pretending to live in Greece? She keeps Greece residents from having to pretend they can act.

When this kid graduates she can become a FEMA Crisis Actor. Probably pays better than Welfare.

SCATS said...

To 9:19PM ~~ Very logically made points. TY.

SCATS said...

Just discovered that in under one week, this thread is already in the TOP TEN "Most read" BLOGS!!! TY readers!

Anonymous said...

Top Ten!!! Because a lot of people do care about this topic and want to stay in touch regardless of their fear of posting. I know a lot of people on the inside of this situation and they do care that a Spencerport student was seemingly recruited and a show picked for her. An investigation will never prove this but it is the truth. GCSD did not recruit her - but clearly 2 aforementioned adults did. Sad - in my opinion that the clear focus is on higher level admin when they trust the principals to know what is going on with their staff. This girl was recruited at the building level and that's where the finger should be pointed. I agree if higher level administration doesn't do something to fix this then they are part of the problem but I see some good things coming from these new upper level administrators and I hope they continue to try and fix the problems that they inherited. Maybe too idealistic but they have yet to be in charge for a year. I would like to give them a chance. Come on Greece Central - do the right thing. Residency counts. I heard the lease is up in March and she's "moving" back to Spencerport where she has lived for years. I have friends who had to jump through hoops to prove residency after a move WITHIN Greece. I have friends who have children who were called in and grilled about which parents address was their legal address. There is a clear picture here and a clear answer. No senior priveledge here - that's for GREECE residents.

I wish I had the stamina to document my story on this blog. I am thinking about it. I am just not sure if it is,better to go directly to administration and pray they will listen to what I have to say. To this day, Athena parents don't know the true story behind my daughter's departure from our home school to Arcadia. I am sure they believe she left because the music director at Arcadia and myself became the best of friends. They also believe I turned on the entire Athena music program for no good reason and that Arcadia poisoned our minds. There is absolutely no truth to that belief. What is true and factual was Judith was retiring the year Sophie started her freshman year. Truth, and it is on record, Kristy Kosko was the next in line to be offered the job. Not only was she more than qualifed, SHE HAD THREE YEARS SENIORITY....A HUGE PART OF THEIR CONTRACT THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN BROKEN! I am going to stop here and continue throughout the evening until my story is complete. It's a vety complex and long story so I want to be sure this post is approved and see if it prompts a few questions along the way. I promise everything I discuss here is the truth. I do not lie and am a straight shooter. This new scandal at Athena has triggered the misery, unfairness and history of abused power we encountered and how, until this day, it haunts us.

SCATS said...

To 3:50PM ~~ Please let us know if this girl does "move back" following the show/lease expiration. We would be very interested in hearing about that!

To Lscarpulla ~~ We do not know you, or the people you reference. Feel free to post your story. We only caution you in using other's names, especially those of minors and their parents. Initials might be the way to go ;)

Lscarpulla said...

Needless to say a Greece educator's contract was broken and her seniority was ignored as the Athena administration recommended KD was a better fit to take over as their high school music director. It was a devastating blow yo this person and her family. Defeated, once again, by the the narcissistic leaders in that school. They managed to move their gal right into that position and our district didn't beat an eyelash. Conveniently, they all disappeared and retired at the same time. Lies and false accusations plagued this educator who had an impeccable reputation. To some extent, myself and my daughter were right in the middle of it. Shaking our heads and feeling helpless as they railroaded us, and once again, beat the system. It was a time, we had an interim superintendent, which made the situation even more difficult.

SCATS said...

To 7:58AM ~~ While we can empathize with what this district is capable of putting a child & their family through, it's tough to feel that way towards an employee who has STOOD BEHIND A UNION THEY'VE PAID TO BELONG TO when they discover they are alone in their battle. This has been an ongoing theme in Greece for years. It seems GTA is ONLY there to fight off parents, taxpayers or any employee that might try to make one of them accountable. Do you really who was Supt. mattered?

Lscarpulla said...

You may have a point regarding the superintendent. It sure can feel like that. If the district followed contract five years ago we wouldn't be in this position with the current music director at athena. We have a slew of parents who are paralyzed in their thoughts and actions as they try to understand the intrusion of this Spencerport student. Fearful their children will suffer. What is obvious is Athena seems to be above reproach....above the law....even Bob Lonsberry was making fun of the parents who are upset with this residency situation. Accusing us of being jealous and we should be happy for the new student's success. He went on to say..."who cares how she got there...people do that all the time!" Can you imagine that? Once again they come out heroes. Truth is, we would be happy for the student, if they didn't lie, cheat and freely use the words divorce and bullying so loosely. That is just sick behavior. What kind of human beings act like that just so their child is in the front line? I would like to go to our current superintendent, as a taxpayer, and discuss how this happened and what the resolution is. I would also like to discuss what the repercussions are for the school's administration and music department. I have heard in athletics, there are penalties. That makes sense to me.

SCATS said...

To 2:26PM ~~ Have you tried to make an appt. to sit down with the Supt? I know Babs detested meeting parents - it was beneath her.

Lscarpulla said...

It is my plan to do so. Hoping it will bring some closure.

SCATS said...

To 4:22PM ~~ Closure is an often elusive thing within GCSD. We'll hope for the best.

SCATs I know one member of the BOE who if he read this blog would be very upset with you about Union ties. In fact he is in the same category as Charlie Hubbard on that topic. I knew him at Harris and one of his jobs was to keep unions from getting a foot hold there or else.

Do you know HOW it came to be that the younger folks are OK with electing a socialist to be Prez???

It's because the LIBERAL EDUCATORS have FAILED to teach anything about the evils of socialism!!!! Ask a millenial to explain why there were long bread lines in the old USSR. They won't have a clue what you are referring to, guaranteed!

We left the GCSD for this reason. After months of trying to get an appt with then-superintendent BDW, finally got a sit down with her and KG 10 weeks left in the school year. A lot of head nodding and phony sympathetic smiles, not to mention empty promises later, I walked out expecting a resolution. Never heard from them again. Phony, fake, sorry excuses for leadership rules there. We're now in a better district where our child is thriving. It cost us a lot, financially and emotionally to move, but well worth it.
Good luck to all those stuck in that shameful district.

Lscarpulla said...

I have been wondering about the Spencerport families. Gosh...how tragic. The Greece families have been told that the Spencerport students had been bullying this "brave girl." What a bad rap...to be known as a school of bullies. Using that term so loosely is criminal enough. The poor students, across our nation, who truly deal with bullies everyday. I feel sick inside that this family was considered our friends for many years. It is inconceivable the web of lies and accusations that plague this situation shame on all who orichest rated this sham.

Anonymous said...

So wrong....unethical and disrespectful to the process of preparing for college and adulthood. Loved the bio in the program. Let's just conveniently leave off the "jr" in Legally Blonde Jr. Where the student played the leading role with eight year olds. How can the production team, the student, the parent, and the educator prepping them for college, agree to such a lie? Oh wait, I forgot, I remember seeing the same thing with the lead girl in Modern Millie Jr. Years ago. Let's just keep the up the charades. Great for these kids future!

Anonymous said...

Some interesting stats about Millie. 8 out of 9 of the leads take voice with
Dyer, dance at a touch of dance or both. Dyer and her choreographer both are
paid for these services by the student's families. For the whole cast- 24 out
of 29 take voice with Dyer (83%).

Is this a "pay to play" situation? A quid pro quo situation? There are several
students that were flat out TOLD that if they want a part in her plays they
would have to leave their current voice teacher or dance studio and use "Dyer's"
service.

Sounds like these guys would fit right in, in Albany where corruption is just
how things are done.

SCATS said...

To 3:49PM ~~ You are not alone.

To 4:46PM ~~ Lying is something GCSD employees excel at, especially when dealing with parents. They do NOT care.

Anonymous said...

Bullied in Spencerport? Wake up Spencerport families! Call & email the truth because if you don't you might just help this family get what they want by throwing Spencerport under the bus.

Anonymous said...

Gotta be careful on the comment regarding taking Voice with Dyer. Voice 1,2,3,and 4 are legitimate credit bearing classes in the Music Department at Athena. That doesn't necessarily mean that they all take private lessons with her. Most of the kids in Select Choir or Select Women's Choir also take Voice class.

Anonymous said...

I am disgusted by this whole story. Not only did this family claim Spencerport kids bullied their little modern Millie, the reason they had to move to Greece because of marital problems. Sick! The lies continue to pile up. The only truth that exists is a number of adults allowed these people to victimize modern Millie and the rest of the cast.

Anonymous said...

I think you all need to relax a little. It sounds to me like there are only a few people involved in the responses to all of these blog posts. Many of which sound like scoured parents whom there child didn't get the leading role. We wonder why the kids today are so out of control and disrespectful to adult figures...how can they not be when their parents act like you all. I happen to be an Athena parent, and this subject that you are all blogging about is absurd. I think there are BIGGER issues that the district needs to worry about. Maybe these hell bent parents should evaluate how talented their kids really are....

Anonymous said...

Maybe the "lead blogger" is making such a big deal about this because she is the "Best girlfriend" with the director of another one of the Greece schools musical programs. Sounds more like a personal vendetta. Way to fight for your woman!?!?!

I think we are losing sight of the 2 separate issues:
#1- Residency/Occupancy- It is FRAUD to rent an apartment and not occupy it for the sake of sending your child to the school of choice/district of choice. Read the article below. Hopefully this family will not get away with it because they have been given the good fortune of being white, wealthy and weasels.

http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2009/03/02/schools-crack-down-on-boundary-hopping

#2- Unethical treatment of children in the Greece Athena Music Department-
•Adults turning a blind eye or orchestrating the transfer of Millie
•Biased judges panel-touch of dance staff and parents that have their heads up the butt of the director
•Kids and parents not speaking up for fear their child will get blackballed from something they love
•Low cast numbers and an ensemble that is not an ensemble!
•Take dance, voice, acting at the wrong studio/person
•Kids can not have a special need, be overweight, too small, wrong ethnicity, be too tall and god forbid gawky!
As a parent of a child at Athena I am sick that anyone would think this is okay. It is not okay to lie. It is not okay to cheat. But, I guess standards have changed.

Wow. I have posted comments with my name attached. I have spoke nothing but truth and facts. I have not accused anyone or commented unless it is true. The anonymous person who is personally attacking my reputation and motives behind my sharing, speaks out of ignorance. At least have the courage to state your name if you use this blog to discredit and attack others without knowing the truth. Furthermore, the anonymous comments regarding scorned parents who children weren't good enough to be cast in leading roles, are cowardly and ignorant. To close your eyes to unethical behavior, favoritism, political casting, inappropriate behaviors, fraud, deception and a continued promoting of elitism, is proof there is a big problem in the camp. For the record, I am a scourned parent. Those, who lead you, know exactly why and I will say it was not because my child didn't get a lead in the musical. I know, and you should too, these parents have more than reasonable cause for their fight and I know their hearts are in the right place. The residence issue is simply the icing on the cake but important enough to be dealt with by breaking through that frontline and pay restitution for these actions. Equally important is breaking the silence. We have been silent long enough.

What I really can't believe is that a parent would lie to send their child to another district all for a school play! It is beyond my comprehension. There has to be something more to it ... Does Athena participate in Stars of Tomorrow? Perhaps this was the reason for the move? let's face it, there are many talented students at Athena who could have played this role. And this young lady had the lead in Spencerport for the last two years. But Spencerport does not do Stars of Tomorrow... So was this the motivation behind all the lies and deceit?

Anonymous said...

The answer to this is unknown. I would think that under the circumstances she would be facing harassment and bullying at Athena.

It will be a plus if you believe the actors who played teachers in your Public Education were good teachers, and you believed the crap they pushed. Successful candidates will demonstrate ability to memorize the script in a 2 hour simulated plane ride, dress the part in a simulated Airport Bathroom, and fake a local accent.

Why does that surprise anyone if I heard correctly believe that is her godmother, she has NEVER missed a performance, this is a first time for her at Athena watching her perform, Maybe Miss Michelle Marini was getting board driving to Spencerport or to A Touch of Dance performances

Not for nothing but a friend of mine from down state who follows this blog recently( yesterday) told me how amazed he is to see what trivial things that go on in Greece light up people in this town . He sighted this topic as one of those trivialities.

SCATS said...

To 9:56AM ~~ There are examples of this type of behavior throughout GCSD. Even BOE members use their "status" to get special help or opportunities for their kids. Great role models, huh?

To 2:14PM ~~ I'll bet if it were HIS SON NOT getting a chance on a sports team that he'd have a DIFFERENT view!

SCATS Admin. received two posts naming the teen involved in this mess. We will not post them. Oddly, the person who put the name out there is offended by those who would criticize this teen and went so far as to point out her status as a minor. Even more oddly, the author claims the girl lives in Greece, but within the Spencerport attendance boundary, then goes onto claim she pays Greece taxes! Obviously this person is out of touch, because there is no way a teen is receiving or paying real estate taxes AND if she lives in the Spencerport Schools attendance zone, then her parents are paying SPENCERPORT SCHOOL TAXES, not Greece School taxes.

This single incident is an example of a much larger problem that has existed in Greece for sometime. Its origins can be traced back to the Walts' era when 15,000 students overwhelmed the plant system of the district. In an effort to solve the problems, an asst Superintendent named Elliott, devised a plan called Schools of Choice and open enrollment as well as so called Schools of Choice as a way to facilitate distribution of students from crowded buildings to schools outside of the attendance boundaries. Schools of choice became Signature Schools claiming to teach excellerated classes in certain cirriculum subjects. It worked well as many parents bought into the false claims and voluntarilyopted to send their kids miles from their home schools in hopes of gaining a perceived advantage in that subject at that particular school.

This policy would lead to abuse by the athletic directors at secondary level schools especially Greece Athena by taking. Advantage of the Secondary Option in this plan. This was done at first on a local level at first and eventually extend into unlawful recruiting of gifted athletes from other nearby districts as well as the City.

On the local level it was done by convincing parents from other high schools to apply at Athena under the secondary option provision. This would in fact,, result in the " raiding " of good athletes from boundary school domain. As one principal at a high school that had enjoyed great success in their athletic programs would say to me when asked about the apparent decline of their program, " we haven't had a winning program here since the beginning of the Secondary Option was put in place." Meaning of course that coaches from Athena had convinced athletes that would have normally attend that school to transfer to Athena. Although this practice is well known though out the district, this abuse continues to this day. This practice would eventually extend into violations of Stare Law by recruiting city kids to take advantage of the residency requirements to unlawfully attend Greece Schools to play basketball and football at this school.

The problem encountered by this parent on the topic is a direct result of what remains of the option plans and loopholes in the state education law on residency and homeless definitions .Dealing with changes needed to State Law would prove difficult but not impossible
If done right. The local abuse of this topic can be solved at the local level, it can be solved by an organized movement that requires the district to end the Secondary Option Provision and aggressively pursue the illegals that are attending our schools and stealing services from the district. Regarding the Secondary Option, the case can be made that declining enrollment down from 15000 no longer justifies the continuation of this abused program. It's time to step up to the plate, organize and demand action by the board and district to end this unfair hurtful policy.

SCATS said...

To 10:28AM ~~ While you attempt to sound very authoritarian, your knowledge is laden with errors, not to mention misspellings that make editor's eyes roll. In reality, the idea of using city athletes dates back at least to the early 1990's. Schools of choice did NOT become Signature Schools! Signature Schools were designed in an attempt to quell the insatiable thirst parents had for sending their kids to Pinebrook (primarily) and to West Ridge (secondarily). Schools of Choice were created by former Supt. John Yagielski with the reopening of the old West Ridge School in 1990-91. Pinebrook & Odyssey followed in 1993. All of this pre-dates Walts' arrival on the scene.

We're NOT going to correct all of your confused notions, but we would love to hear the details of the violations of "Stare Law." We won't hold our breath.

To all, the bottom line is this: whatever piece of this scandal you connect to, the play is over, "Millie" and gang got what they wanted....they have no scruples about what they did. It is with great disappointment that GCSD allowed all of this to happen. The parents, teachers and everyone else who let this happen will have to live with themselves. Shameful as it is, they don't care. I feel so concerned for "Millie" who will eventually have to survive without her parents to make arrangements for her. It is all very sad.

Come on people!!! You live in Greece. You should know that large cash donations and serious brown nosing by parents is how to get your child on a Greece sports team or musical stage. But whatever you do, don't call attention to that fact or your child will never set foot on the field or stage again, no matter how talented. And for Gods sake, if the coach/director in charge bullies your child or talks badly about them to students, keep your mouth shut!!!

Anonymous said...

I have always been a supporter of sports programs as being an important component of the education curriculum . That support has been somewhat deminished of late. Not because of its intended value but because of the over zealous parental interference with the programs and extracurricular programs like musicals etc.

Programs like soccer ,football, basketball have become win at all costs by parents of players and booster clubs . I have seen this with my own eyes at a hockey game a few years ago, when a fight between two parents of players on the same team got into a serious first fight right in front of me. The fight was caused when the son of one of them was pulled from the game and was replaced by the son of the parent a short distance away.

Shortly after this happened, the opposing team scored a goal. The parent of the benched player began yelling at the coach for replacing his kid with other kid of the other parent berating his decision and blaming the goal on his replacement. This brought a swift response from the boys parent in the form of intense , vulgar language that escalated into physical violence between them Itwas not a pretty sight but reenforced my thinking about how some parents have ruined the intent of the program as a teaching tool. This kind of conduct is not in the best interests of the intended value of these activities. They are intended to teach certain important values to their children. They are not intended for selfish attitudes of the parents that some cases are vicariously reliving their youth through their children In my opinion this kind of conduct detracts from what these programs aspire to teach. Competition, the value of team work ,respect for others, and a desire to work hard to succeed and win but also be able to deal with dissappointments .All important values as they prepare to face the reality of the competitive world we live in when they leave school and join society.

SCATS said...

To 11:07AM ~~ Such stories remind us of a friend's young girls trying out for some youth soccer team when the kids were about 6 yrs. old. The parent/coach was all business and was also a PTA Prez. The parent audience was all vulgar, shouting the F word at a bunch of little girls chasing a ball on a field. Such a proud day for Greece. At that point, we decided no organized sports in our family. It doesn't fit our values.

Anonymous said...

So what's the word? Will "Millie" and family be held accountable for living in Spencerport but attending a Greece school?

Anonymous said...

I get about parents acting badly but this is about teachers and school administrators not doing the right thing and acting badly and basically teaching our kids the right and wrong way to do things when there in school ( is this why they still go to school is to learn???) What good things are we teaching are kids if we say it's okay to bend the rules when you find it nessary. It's okay to lie to get ahead. It's okay for a teacher to bully you ( as long as it's not another child) it's okay not to stand up for you self because it's better to live with fear and regret. I don't know but these out NOT the lessons I want my kids to know !!!!

SCATS said...

To 8:59PM ~~ The alternative is homeschooling or private.

Lscarpulla said...

Scats.... Are you saying all public schools operate this way? The only solution is private or homeschoole? All Greece schools are not created equal. This is not a case of "guilty by association." There are families who can testify their high school's administrators work against the very things that were discussed above. Successful programs require a healthy, positive and balanced process. What good is a trophy or accolade if it caused pain and damage, to students, along the way?

Anonymous said...

What will the consequences be? Will the Spencerport family & conspirators get away with this? The show is over & the admin are making decisions on what to do. CALL, EMAIL, CALL AGAIN & EMAIL AGAIN give any information you have and let them know your thoughts as a Greece parent & tax payer. Change will only happen if enough people come forward.

SCATS said...

To 9:24AM ~~ I'm saying ALL Greece schools operate under the SAME administration. Unless you want to move, homeschool or private are the other options.

Sometimes a phone conversation or looking someone in the eye across a table is better than walking around with a sign. ANYTHING is better than silence

OH MY GOD! Two things that are absent from most comments on this site are FACT AND PROOF. Also absent is COMMITMENT AND GUTS. If your having a legitimate problem, deal with it instead of crying about it. It's the adult thing to do. Complaining here is an excercise in futility and will not solve your problem. Be persistent because If you do and become a stone in someone's shoe you will eventually get their attention and results.

SCATS said...

Lscarpulla said...

Everyone here, speaking out, needs to try and voice their complaints and issues where they will be heard. We have to trust in the new administration upholding our district. We have to trust they are different and just. We have to believe they care. Give them a chance to do right by the parents and students who are fed up with the issues currently under the microscope. Please don't be afraid of the impact on your children. You can beat this and I feel confident, this time, our Greece students will be protected from the fallout. Look back at all the posts. There are some serious situations that require attention. The district WILL listen but not without a name.

Greece Central ain't a whole lot different from Attica.

or
You go in the hole.

Just do your time, stand in line and wait to get processed out.

SCATS said...

To 2:41PM ~~ Like the old saw goes, there's a sucker born every minute. Do you believe they'll lower your taxes, too? What about the tooth fairy?

No, you do not "have to trust" them. They do not trust you! How long do you give them to change before you've decided you have given tham that chance you mentioned? Do you realize that changing the culture takes a clean sweep of those who have conducted backroom business for decades? Good luck on getting them to listen AND change for the better with your name. I'll bet lunch the best they will do is snowjob you back into silence.

Anonymous said...

2:41 is right. If you have a problem speak out where it counts. Go to those in the administration that are in a position to help. Go to board meetings and address them. If it's important and is effecting your child in a negative way, then you have an obligation to deal with it without fear of intimidation. At first they my blow you off and hope you go away. They count on this because it has worked in the past. Keep the pressure on. Find other parents with similar problems and join together . As a group demand answers and satisfaction.. Take no less. I always say that when your dealing with a problem caused by others, remember one important thing. THE MOST COMMITED WINS!

SCATS said...

To 1:45PM ~~ Lotsa luck. They divide & conquer. Admin. uses the excuse that they can ONLY talk about YOUR kid with you, due to privacy issues, etc. Please name a group that has "won" in the last 10 yrs? Aside from sports related (hockey) issues, there's been none.

I'm confused...this same Spencerport girl was allowed to be in musical productions at Arcadia. I was told she was asked by the Artistic Director essentially taking potential spot on stage from an Arcadia student. Essentially supporting a Spencerport student and not a Greece student. I have also heard about troubles with the Arcadia music theater program as well and parents not wanting to speak up. So I don't think Athena is the only program that has it's issues.

SCATS said...

To 7:51PM ~~ The WHOLE district has issues!

Anonymous said...

The main issue here remains, a Spencerport student who LIVES in Spencerport.... And there is PROOF, continues to attend a Greece school. Who is really behind this... Protecting this family, the teachers and the girl, from the rath of the greater community. Seriously, if she truly was bullied in Spencerport, what is she facing daily in the halls of Athena? It can't be good. At such a young age to carry out such a big lie and be ok with it. Who would hire someone with that kind of work ethic? I guess she could work at Athena for the rest of her life....

Anonymous said...

Interesting thread of comments. Respectfully...

1. What is the the specific residency law that was allegedly broken?

2. How did this "issue" end up?

SCATS said...

To 1:29PM ~~ In general, the residency law pertains to what school district the student lives in as it relates to the school district that receives the property taxes that pay for that student's schooling. In other words, I live within a part of Greece that is covered by Greece Central's boundary. I pay school tax based upon what they bill our property for, and that money supports ours and/or other children living within the boundary. It all gets fuzzy as soon as someone claims they are homeless with school aged kids. The homeless are given a wide berth in choosing where to send their kids.
