That's A GREAT Question!!

SCATS ~~ The same question goes for Greece BOE meetings? Where & when are they broadcast??

Does anyone know when the Town Board meetings are re broadcast on TW ? When the guy on Ridgeway had the contract you could see it several times a week. Now no one seems to know when it's scheduled and the town will not publicize the schedule.  1/22/2016 10:34 AM

there is no schedule on Time Warner either and almost no programs

There is no obligation by either to provide a rebroadcast of these meetings. I believe for a nominal fee, you can obtain a CD . The take over of PBS by Time Warner(illegal) was implemented for just this reason. When the local operator of channel 12 was disposed of, the practice was slowly ended for obvious political considerations. They hated channel 12 so much, GCSD covertly built a TV facility at Olympia using the 2000 CIP money to build it. The plan was for the towns served by Cable Vision would take it over and GCSD would provide the equipment and facility to do select broadcasting. Fortunately, the school board at the time uncovered the conspiracy and the secret facility and squashed the plan to use the stealth TV station at Olympia.

I think you mean PEG (public, educational and governmental) channels not PBS which is different. That is the national system of "educational" TV stations. It is still on ch 11, but does not provide much local programming. Without a local facility to help tape and produce shows westsiders have nothing. So the rest of what you say is mostly true. The cable company however, pays hefty franchise fees to the local towns probably over million dollars a year, which are mostly used to help boost the salaries of cronies, and hire relatives, Your tax dollars at work.

They offered Brian Catarino the job to run it but he declined the school district offer. Said he did not want to work for anybody. So he is true to his word as he hasn't worked since.

To 12:01AM ~~ Who could blame him? You work for them under their terms. They were already known for making portions of tapes vanish! That's what they did when the wonderful Julia Van Orman illegally told everyone to go out and "vote yes" on the school district budget. Her statement simply vanished, along with the end of that meeting. Easy Peasey ;)

I don't see how in the town of Greece or some of the other towns how anyone could run public access under the auspices of the town or the school district. As an employee there would always be pressure to do things their way and if Caterino challenged that like many other ex employees he would be considered insubordinate and let go.

I don't think so. It would be a frosty day in hell before Auberger and Esposito would hire Caterino to run their show. After the elder Caterino passed away, Brian took over and his disdain for local politicians, especially these two, was over whelming. This stance would eventually lead to his ultimate demise as they entered into a conspiracy with Time Warner to get rid of him and take over Channel 12.
He tried to fight them but lacked the means to hire a lawyer to take them on and they knew this. This conspiracy started 4 years before it actually happened as they had to wait until the current agreement with the town of Greece expired in ''05 or ' 06. The ground work was laid as far back as the approval of 2000 CIP, when Walts agreed to build the secret TV module at Olympia using CIP funds. The guy that ran the radio station 90.3 jazz was going to operate the channel for the five towns involved in the conspiracy against Caterino and the public this channel served.

To 7:24AM ~~ I laugh every time someone references a "secret" broadcast studio at Olympia! I clearly recall the announcement that WGMZ 90.1 (you had it wrong) was moving from Apollo to Olympia HS. This should have caused an inquiry by one or more BOE members. It didn't, despite repeated ads & news items about the move.

Scats there were several ways in which the TV station process can be described as a stealth operation. First of all when the CIP was being sold to the public, the addition to Olympia High School was described as a media center, bith in flyers and on the video they did. I recall this because I reviewed it when this stuff was going on. The Walts crew never disclosed any plans for a TV studio to the public. Second starting in early 2004 the towns and the school district officials met several times to discuss moving access to the school district. They did not included educable in those discussions which included a plan to dissolve Educable as a nonprofit corporation. These were essentially negotiations between the school district and the towns, However, as I understand it any such negotiations would have had to be approved in advance by the school board. They were not forthcoming to the board or the public about their plans. I would consider that stealth. You are correct that in 2005 I believe well after these negotiations were started an article appeared in the paper noting that as part of the new contract with Time Warner, the cable company had agreed to run a line to the Olympia location -- ostensibly to run live school board meetings. Again no mention of TV facilities was noted in the article as I recall. I directly asked Firkins if this was to run the access studio, and she denied it which was untrue. At that point the board should have asked some questions and I don't know why they didn't. I do not recall however any public discussion of the move of the jazz station that included discussion of TV until 2007.

To Brian ~~ My point is that EVEN AFTER THE RADIO STATION MOVED, NO ONE ASKED QUESTIONS, at least not for several months. The make-up of the BOE changed significantly during the early to mid-2000's. Those who showed great concern missed the early signs that SOMETHING was amiss.

Not true. I late 2006 , the HMO members were made aware of the TV facility at Olympia by an employee , later fired ,who installed the equipment. The board was given a tour of the facility and brought along a reporter from Chanel 13 who was a Greece resident. According to sources , she was amazed at the state of the art equipment at that location including 3 brand new cameras. The jig was up. Some board members approached Caterino who confirmed the attempt by the towns and school district to take control of channel 12. He reportedly turned over notes of secret meetings held as far back 2001 outlining the entire plan. Firkins was the lead representing Greece.
After this took place, the supervisors of the involved towns asked for an opportunity to address the school board and make their case and the financial benefits to the district.
At that meeting after each conspirator made their case to a skeptical board who ultimately decided it was more of a liability than a benefit to go forward with this idea. Ultimately they voted on a resolution blocking the Superintendant from going forward with the plan. That resulted in GCSD getting involved and the eventuality of Time Warner taking over. So to say the board did nothing in this regard is totally false. For if they had not acted as they did, the district would be involved in a TV operation supposedly run by a non political group lead by Rob Linton instead of Time Warner. In either case, Caterino was out of operation.

To 1:58PM ~~ Everything you say helps to substantiate exactly what I've said :) I'm well aware of how HMO missed ALL the signs! By the time you folks tuned in (pun intended) the radio station was already broadcasting from their new digs, Joe. Don't bother claiming you aren't him. Only you misspell and mispunctuate the way you do.

Why is this still being discussed? Caterino is still moaning about this? Also, those using the term "PBS" have no idea what you're talking about. PBS - is a non-profit government supported agency has nothing to do with public access television. They are affiliated with stations such as WXXI, and provide funding for such. Also, I hear the TV studio at OLY has been converted into a stealth indoor, turf equipped practice field - minus wind clips.

To 8:56PM ~~ Why aren't wind clips ever included??
