New Police HQ Won't Cost You A Penny

"We're able to do this now because it made financial sense. We just retired the debt on our town hall and in two years we'll retire the debt on the library. Financially, we're able to afford it without any increase to the tax payers, any further burden. It's something that's long overdue." ~~ Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich

SCATS ~~ Where does ALL this money for the extras come from? Pavilions, skating rinks, pickleball courts, spray parks ... now a new HQ for GPD ?! How high will assessments climb??

As was once explained by a slightly inebriated School Board President; You don't Never want taxes to go down!

When a Bond is paying off you damn well better have another project lined up to go to take up the money that was paying that Bond or you're screwed. People are used to inflation, they're conditioned to accept Taxes going up and damn happy if they just go up a little. You let taxes drop by a damn penny you'll never get them back up.

SCATS.......You forgot the $50,000.00 Circus sign. And how much was spent on the coffee shop be for that went belly up?

This is another Big Bill cover up! Greece tax payers will be paying for this new Greece police headquarters for the next 20 years. We are still paying for the Town Hall! There are 3 police stations now, and maybe upgrades to the one on island cottage maybe needed. Maybe instead of investing in a new police station, he should not raise the assessment on houses. Either way taxes go up.

Chief Alan said it right. It was the vision of Don Riley and John Auberger that really brought this vision of the town hall campus together. This is just super bill piggy backing off there work!!!

To 7:01PM ~~ Not forgotten ;)

Town Hall Center began under the Administration of Vince Tofany who lived across Long Pond Rd at the time. The plan was in place in 1966. The scope it is currently was not part of that plan. The separate Court Building was not part of that plan. A level of sanity prevailed in the Tofany years, and Vince felt no need to hide from Citizens, his door was always open. Sanity and moderate spending continued under Vinces successor George Badgerow.

Those who followed Badgerow had no problem selling Greece out. Giving up the Greece Free School District to bail the City out without getting Charlotte and Kodak Park back was the first major kick in the gut administered to Greece Taxpayers by a Greece Supervisor. As time went on, what compensation did Greece get for giving the water Department to the Water Authority? What was the compensation to Greece Taxpayers for giving the Sewer System to Pure Waters?

What does King William have left to give, and what will that gift cost Greece Taxpayers?
Greece Central is already giving free education to City residents at Greece Taxpayer expense.

The so called "Brain-Trust" speaks! "New Police Station won't cost you a penny" is no lie because it will cost you $$$millions! Who determined that the taxpayers can afford this expenditure? How does this make financial sense? Is the Island cottage station closing, and if so, what will it be used for? Who does this new station benefit and how? What is the real cost, please itemize all costs and future tax burden? Who is doing the construction and how were they selected? How will the new station help to reduce and solve crimes? Will the new station offer greater efficiencies helping to reduce the absurd overtime money grab? Are bid proposals, construction details, itemized cost for the project and all ancillary equipment available for public review or would one need to file a FOIL Request to suck the documents out of them?

Supervisor says, ‘Without any INCREASE to the tax payers’. What is the cost of new HQ?

If taxpayers paid nothing on new HQ in/before 2016, and start paying in/after 2017, isn’t that ‘new cost’ to taxpayers and therefore an INCREASE to what taxes would have been?

Anonymous said...

Tv news shows construction underway. Who won the contract at what bid? How many bids submitted?

SCATS said...

To 9:24PM ~~ Also, WHERE will the practice shooting range be located? On Long Pond Rd??

To 10:44PM ~~ Does ANYONE go to Town Board and/or Planning Board meetings any more?

To 10:53PM ~~ I saw that too. By the time we're told the "news" the damage is already done.

SNAFU at the rink ! . .? It's frozen, the lights work, the little house is ready, Bill has had his picture taken under the lights BUT no skating. What are we waiting for ? Is it a coffee machine for the little house?

Not related to this post but Channel 10 or 13 had a story on their web site stating that budget cap for school districts this year will be 0.12%. A little more than a tenth of a percent. They will need 60% voter approval to override the cap. Let's see how our dumb ass school board will handle this.

When did the public vote to approve capital project to build HQ? And to approve borrowing money?

We thought we had it bad with Auggie. We will forever be paying his lawsuits and now we have keep spending King Bill.

SCATS said...

To 7:46AM ~~ Maybe they will use a new stadium prop to lure in the "yes" vote ... Oh wait! That won't work! Hmmm ....

9:30. You approved it when you voted last November for the current one party Town board. After that, there will be no discussion or resistance to what the boss wants to do. You and others voted for an autocracy and not democracy. So sit down, shut up, pay your taxes and look in the mirror to look at who's to blame.

To 10:20AM ~~ While I get your point, I also see where 9:30AM is coming from as well. Corruption lives on in Greece NY.

9:24PM All those questions have been addressed at meetings open to the public. I have been at them because I care. Mr. Daughton comes to about 3 TB meetings a year and Charlie comes to them all. He speaks at public forum for 3 minutes then promptly leaves. Instead of making up facts then like rabid dogs everyone runs with it like its fact and gets all worked up, attend and you will know what is going on. Or its more fun to grumble about non sense and do nothing but complain.

Here are my thoughts,

First do I think we need a new Police HQ?, yes it's long over do. However don't say any thing about "no cost" or "no tax increase" because we really all know there is, just say our building is old decrepit and wasn't built as a Police station and we need a new one.

Second, should it have gone to a public vote? Yes absolutely, put the plans on the website and Facebook pages and let the public approve it. But let's be honest no is gonna show up and vote.

Third, are we spending too much on it? I don't know I'm not a expert on building Police stations. However when you take into consideration what's needed it can add up. Office space for admin/investigators, work areas for patrol officers to do paperwork, locker room/bathroom facilities, a few holding cells, booking area, roll call room, secure evidence room, interrogation room, etc... When you add all that up, there is need for a decent size building.

Also they mentioned on the news they will continue to use the range on Island Cottage.

To 11:41AM ~~ Excuse me, BUT after electing these people for the jobs they GET PAID TO DO, it is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to communicate with the community. It is not ours to attend meetings held at times that benefit their schedules! My God, do you believe we need to go to Wash DC and watch Congress to "be in the know," too? I sure as heck don't!

The website has been made meaningless. There is little coverage by media, unless the top dog decides to put forth a press release! They do NOT want us to know! It's really as simple as that.

To 3:49PM ~~ I had not heard that about the shooting range. So, are we going to be paying maintenance to keep that complex going, too? Sounds like wasted $$$'s.

How much money was spent to remodel and upgrade Island Cottage a few years ago?

Is Greece PD in competition with NGFD for who can build a nicer palace?

Irondequoit built their last Police Palace on funding provided by contributions from people who pleaded guilty to Littering or Muffler violations in satisfaction of other V&T charges. Greece implemented the Town Traffic Violation Citation to keep fine money in the Town Treasury. Greece sure as hell writes enough tickets to pay for a new building. Maybe MeChief should incentivize his troops, you want a new Headquarters write tickets to pay for it. What the hell the in car computer can spit a 2 page Citation with just a few keystrokes on the car computer.

5:57 you were correct about 8 years ago. The state stopped the process of issuing town tickets because, well basically they were mad that the towns were keeping "the states" money. So very little of traffic ticket money is kept by the towns in NY. Which I think is insane but that's how NY runs things. I don't recall any upgrade to Island Cottage Road facility especially a few years ago. According to the news the range will stay and building will be used for training and storage. The range is a must and is used by many other organizations and departments. Actually I'm surprised that a county this size does not have a large joint indoor and outdoor range area not like the small one on scotsville road right next to business and jogging trails.

Unless the ticket gets pleaded out to a muffler or littering the Town keeps less than 10 bucks per ticket processed. Bring a lawyer and speeding becomes a muffler violation or littering and the Town keeps all the money. It's a nice system if you know the play.

Greece has been the Range of Choice since it was on Frisbee Hill until the 70s when the range had to move so Mt Kintz could store more garbage where the range once was.
The City had an indoor range on Scottsville Rd under the fire truck shop. It was eliminated due to ventilation when the Academy and shop was expanded and a new indoor range with live fire situation facility was built there. There is also an on again/off again range in Rush depending on the mood of DEC about the piles of tires on that range.

Greece has a long tradition of being the support facility for other Departments both Police and Fire. Note the training towers at RRFD and NGFD Exempt field. The argument on the Fire side is it keeps firemen in the District and available as well as minimizing travel miles on equipment going to and from Scottsville Rd. Scottsville Rd actually is City owned, and bills may be sent to Departments using that facility although County taxpayers supply a lot of the operational funding.

It's just another way the City reaches into County taxpayers pockets, over and above Traffic Engineering and GARBAGE disposal.

Does anyone know when the Town Board meetings are re broadcast on TW ? When the guy on Ridgeway had the contract you could see it several times a week. Now no one seems to know when it's scheduled and the town will not publicize the schedule.

An elderly lady friend thinks the shooting range should be mobile but genrally in the Dewey Stond Rd area.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the elderly lady... and further suggest we open her range as a public use facility. With permits and licensing of course.

Sooner of later the big bill cover up will come out, stay tuned!!!!

To 5:01PM ~~ Greece is overdue for another NATIONAL NEWS type scandal.
