"Disturbing Incident" Involved Bus Monitor Bullies

Various sources tell us that at least two of the students allegedly involved in the bullying of a special needs student at Athena this week were also involved in bullying the bus monitor Karen Klein in 2012.

It appears that GCSD's "Anti-Bullying" campaign has been a HUGE waste of time, money and resources!

The proclaimed "1 year suspension (it wasn't!), loss of regular bus rides (they still rode buses!) and 50 hours of Community Service" in 2012 appear to have had NO IMPACT on these thugs!

Let's make sure we build a sports complex where kids like this can congregate in large groups AT NIGHT and further their criminal activities with the opportunity to have multiple victims, crowds of onlookers and perhaps even cheering supporters.

Don't bother writing in to say this is an "unfair comparison" or ridiculous fear. If they can't control the monsters IN THE BUILDINGS (a confined space) then they can't control them outdoors, in the neighborhoods or on the streets! But then we already know this from the rumble on Olympia Drive in broad daylight earlier this school year!

At least one of the students was definitely one of the ones involved in the bus incident and this comes from a very reliable source. If I recall correctly many blamed this bus incident on the bus monitor! Well, who do we blame for this??? These kids are animals and they need to be held accountable as do their parents! They need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent that the law allows. In addition, they should be permanently removed from the school district and the PARENTS should foot the bill of home tutoring. the tax payers should not have to pay for the parents inability to parent and control their own children. Instead of a stadium ( and I was all for it prior to this incident) Greece needs an alternative school in a separate building where we can house these types of uncontrollable , violent and disruptive students. Their parents should be forced to pay a fee for their kids to attend and not be given a choice of whether to send the kid or not. The current Bridges program and re engagement center and home tutoring are not working for these types of kids and they are not cost effective. I am appalled that this should happen to anyone even an animal let alone a special needs student.

To 3:55PM ~~ Yup, we blamed the bus monitor for FAILING TO PERFORM THE DUTIES THAT DEFINED HER JOB! That is not to say the kids had no responsibility.

Oddly, GCSD chose to slap them on the hand. They were returned to Athena after a few months in the re-engagement center. They did NOT spend a full year there, lose bus privileges, etc. ... as many people were tricked into believing.

It is always easier to place blame somewhere else instead of where it belongs, with the students!!!! Accountability needs to be forced upon these 3 thugs. They should be charged with child endangerment and sexual assault. Then when they are found guilty they should have to register as sex offenders!!! Their age should have no bearing on this, they are old enough to know better!!!!! A message needs to be sent to all students and parents that this will type of behavior will not be tolerated!!! They are very obviously a product of their environment!!! Athena has always been a problem, just like Arcadia. But the district is not capable of dealing with it so they turn a blind eye!!!!!

And why won't every parent and taxpayer in this District stand up, petition the District, and demand that we end the charade of discipline? As a District employee depending on my job, I cannot spearhead the initiative. Others however can! The endless revolving door putting threats back into our schools puts every student and staff member at risk! So S. Chatterton, S. Nelms, BD or BDW statements regarding safety are all bullshit until they walk the walk instead of talking the talk!!!

We let these kids get away with so much because of the "no student left behind act" When are the parents responsible for these kids? If we put more pressure on the parents you will see a better student.

All 3 are football players, hopefully not for long!

You reap what you sow. Parents and teachers and administrators are all to blame. God forbid should we discipline little Johnny. His self esteem might get hurt. Admin and teachers need to wake up. When these kids are in school they are under your watch. Grow some balls and get control of your schools! Parents, stop coddling little Johnny! I am sick and tired of all the adults being afraid to discipline kids. Our schools are a mess after years and years of finger pointing.

And to 3/12/15 @ 5:26PM......I have no sympathy for you as a district employee. The UNIONS protect YOU! Where is the UNION leadership from the teachers UNION and principals UNION?? Oh yeah, I forgot, it does not involve your paycheck so you sit back and whine and claim you can't speak out for fear of losing your job. You have to be freakin kidding me! That does not happen! UNION protection at its best.

I agree these kids need to know that this behavior is not acceptable. But blaming the administrative staff isn't the answer..the parents are...when is the last time a parent said my child is wrong ..they cry my baby wouldn't do that.and Sue the school...make the parent responsible for the actions of their kids...put them in charge of riding on the buses and sitting in classes to see how they act...and then arrest them and make them pay for all the cost...

To 8:59PM ~~ Oh come on! They didn't mean to do it! Let's give them a stadium with lights & turf so they will stay in school and become upstanding citizens ;)

To 8:38AM ~~ I'm going to refer you to 6:44AM's remarks. It covers the BIG PICTURE.

I invite you to come spend a week in my shoes. I'll even give you half my hourly wage of $11.00/hr. to take the abuse I do!!! Show me you're game? Or too scared? We can even follow your little angels around with a video camera and then broadcast it and your prior comments on the nightly news... Unless you're not certain they're as good as you ignorantly believe!!!

To 5:34PM ~~ Interesting that you posted this just after I stated to a friend that it is OBVIOUS that adults in the schools ARE NOT intervening when kids exhibit signs of being deeply troubled. It is not believable that these three perpetrators suddenly woke up one day & decided to commit this type of abuse on a peer! The WARNING SIGNS/BEHAVIORS WERE IGNORED BY THE EMPLOYEES. You know what I'm saying is true because YOU just stated that you "take the abuse." THAT IS THE BIGGER PROBLEM!!

Once again the Greece School District is national news. Front page of Yahoo "Student Who Bullied Bus Monitor in 2012 is Now Accused of Forcing a Special Needs Classmate to Drink Urine."

And where oh where is our over-paid Superintendent on this matter????? In hiding of course. She sends out her minions to speak. What a coward. The school board should be DEMANDING she address this incident publically and not sent one of her underlings to speak to the press. School Board.......do your job!
