Town Of Greece Wasting $$ ?

Earlier today, we were out doing errands in preparation for a snowstorm and the Super Bowl. While parked in the Aldi's Mt. Read Blvd. parking lot, I observed a giant, red Town of Greece plow/truck enter and salt a path through to Maiden Ln. at 12:53PM.

Since when does the Town of Greece provide such services to private businesses, plazas, etc?

You should have taken pictures because the Town will say it never happened as will the driver. Or better yet they don't recall.

SCATS said...

To 3:48PM ~~ I'm sure you are right. It happened a little too fast to get a pic.

Aunt Bea (aka M.M.) we're waiting for your response.

Anonymous said...

Oh she will. Just as soon as she and our supervisor get back from the tanning beds.

Apparently the "name calling" clause listed under the "Leave Your Comment" heading is selective. Sometimes residual salt is released even after the salt release bin is shut or perhaps the driver simply forgot. It seems a stretch to imply some nefarious intent from witnessing a vehicle passing through a commercial lot. The other name calling and ridiculing comments subtract from the point and indicate either a lack of substance to substantiate the issue or a lack of intellect to strengthen it.

SCATS said...

To 4:40PM ~~ Referring to someone as Aunt Bea after the RIDICULOUS MAYBERRY comparison is not what I consider name-calling.

As for leaving the salt spreader on, nice try but I'm not buying it! I saw it get turned off, then back on ;) Also, I want to hear a GOOD REASON why a Town truck would ever even enter such a lot to start with! Unless there's some under the table deal going on, it's not something that should have happened.

Is JOHN the PLUMBER here again. You do get bored when your not cutting grass. Do they even allow you to do anything besides run a lawn mower?

Anonymous said...

Scats,

Everything in this world is not a conspiracy or an attempt by "the man" or the establishment to get one over on you.

There's a fire chief in this town who's been called an arsonist in a 36 year-old fatal fire and you're worried about some salt conspiracy. By the way, the prescribed 2 months have passed since Phelan said they were going to the DA. Where's your outrage on this one?

SCATS said...

To 11:59AM ~~ It sounds like you know a lot more about the waste of money & salt since YOU referred to it as a "conspiracy." Why don't YOU give us the details?

My outrage over the alleged arsonist/fire chief is right there on the threads devoted to that issue. Changing the focus is what those who support the status quo ALWAYS attempt when the heat is on. Nice try, but let's get back to Town of Greece services, waste, taxes, etc.

I still haven't heard a reasonable explanation for a private parking lot getting special services from a town vehicle & driver ;)

Anonymous said...

That has yet to be proven in either case. Perhaps you could have at least noted the number of the truck which would have been a good place to start then file an official complaint with the highway boss.who ever that is. Something else to consider is the fact that the teachers union headquarters is located in that plazs I think Hmmm..

SCATS said...

To 1:19PM ~~ In either case? What the heck are you referring to?

The truck number wasn't easy to see from my vantage point ... he was doing a loop through the lot several aisles over then coming towards me: head-on. When he did the final turn, I didn't catch it in the short instant it was in my line of sight. But then again, now you are turning this PROBLEM back onto me! It's not my responsibility to file complaints. It's the Town of Greece's responsibility to ensure their employees are doing the JOB THEY ARE PAID TO DO BY THE TOWN, nothing more. I'm pointing out they have an apparent problem. The ball is in their court to fix it. And please don't attempt to tell me they don't read this BLOG.

Also, the lot for GTA is not owned by the same people as the Aldi's lot, as I recall. Again, another diversion tactic! WTH would the town salt for GTA on Super Bowl Sunday??? Answer: They wouldn't!!! ;)

Anonymous said...

What I meant was it deliberate or accidental. No proof exists in either instance. So any conclusions at this point are strictly speculation, I guess.if they read it here should we expect them to post an explanation here also.it would be nice if they did as that would clarify things don't you think.

Anonymous said...

Send them proof and I'm sure they will take care of it.

Anonymous said...

Not a problem if the driver screwed up and accidently activated the salter device.ive seen that many times right in front when the truck was stopped at light and dumped a pile of salt. That is what I call a waste.

SCATS said...

To 3PM ~~ I think proof does exist. Baxter and others have said it was ARSON and that there is evidence an accelerant was used. The statements were made to TV & newspaper media.

To 3:43PM ~~ I already stated I watched him turn the SPREADER OFF/ON.

SCATS said...

To 3:06PM ~~ Your comment suggests that the only time a taxpayer can get a problem fixed is with proof. No wonder Greece is in the kind of disarray it is.

So if you get harassed by a cop, or have a water main break flooding your basement, don't call the Town until you take photos, get sworn affadavits from witnesses, etc.

Anonymous said...

The town is divided into routes, this most likely is a turn around. Why would anyone salt Wegmans? They contract with a company to do that. So stop asSALTing them and peppering them with accusations. Now you've gotten me so upset I won't even salt my fries!

SCATS said...

To 7:28PM ~~ Wegmans? It is Aldi's we are talking about. Try to keep up ;)

PS ~~ There was no turning around. There was a loop through the lot though ... unnecessary unless you are wanting to salt the main driveway area.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of the highway department didn't they do a spectacular job keeping our roads clean and safe during the recent snow activity! Good job guys.

SCATS said...

To 8:02PM ~~ Actually, I've heard a lot of complaining about poorly maintained streets. In fact, side streets where I go often are still a disaster. The main roads are good.

Anonymous said...

Scats, are you a school bus driver?

Anonymous said...

In case anyone is interested I saw a Greece truck plowing the parking lot of the Legion Post on Mt. Read and Dorsey late am today

Anonymous said...

I am a state worker. I salt and plow. Some of the trucks have computer salters. They automatically turn off when the truck stops and start up with the computer detects motion without the operator touching controls. It's very possible they left the salter on instead of bypassing it for a turn around.

SCATS said...

To 12:31AM ~~ I wish you folks would keep up.
I already stated I watched him turn the SPREADER OFF/ON.

To: 8:02PM

Yes, from what I saw the roads were 'kept clean and safe'... Greece has a long tradition in this regard. As the saying goes, 'the trains run on time'.

Credit given where credit due!

Anonymous said...

Your in your little car and you were able to see into the driver area of large truck higher than you and be able to see into it and see the salter lever being used. Wow.

SCATS said...

To Geo H. ~~ Try traveling the side roads through the larger neighborhoods and you MIGHT change your mind.

To 9:55AM ~~ Please show me where I stated that. Of course, you can't!

I've already explained I could SEE the salt spewing behind the truck ... ON ... then OFF ... then back ON ...

FROM NOW ON WE'RE NOT GOING TO ARGUE ABOUT WHAT WE PERSONALLY WITNESS. Not on this thread or any other, period. Especially stupid stuff like 9:55AM's remark which is entirely unrelated to what's been stated. So comments intent on that likely won't be posted.

Anonymous said...

I understand what SCATS is saying. The smaller school buses aren't making it through the side roads near my house without extra effort. There isn't the attention to these roads that we enjoyed in the past.

So instead of taking care of the neighborhoods, the plows are tending to commercial parking lots and the Legion Post? WHY?????

Anonymous said...

My neighbors have been using the road to teach the kiddies how to cross-country ski. Other than that, they are clear! lol

Anonymous said...

I live on a forgotten street. We got plowed once during last weeks storm. I've seen private snow plow trucks clearing our street more than once In the few years we've lived on this block. We all appreciate that, but it's the town's job!

Anonymous said...

My road is good. Better than when I travel to other towns. Thanks to the men in the DPW in Greece.

Anonymous said...

Side streets off Harvest Drive were atrocious today.

Anonymous said...

Greece roads are awesome compared to the surrounding towns and the city.

SCATS said...

To 5:27PM ~~ My road hasn't been plowed yet today. Yes, wonderful ... lol

This post is ridiculous. I have worked for the highway department for a long long time. If the guy was salting the parking lot of Aldis it would have been by accident. I could almost believe it if it was at a small mom and pops type business, Aldis? Give me a break! The are a global multimillion or more company. Why would they care about saving a couple bucks on salt in the parking lot. As far as the side roads not being plowed? It takes 3 1/2 or more hours depending on conditions to get through a route. So I am plowing right now as I text ( on the side of the road parked that is) and I am busting my but to get through my route. I am half way done. The first part of my route, everyone thinks I am a hero. The second half of people see me as a bag of crap because I am not there yet? Also like everywhere else, we are doing more with less. Guys go on vacation, guys are sick, and trucks break down. All of these variables should be taken into account. Also like everywhere else, we have great workers and not so great workers. If someone is not performing well in their plow route, they lose it. So if your street is getting skipped regularly then report it and it will be addressed. Now I have to get back to work. Enjoy sleeping while I get slammed around in this plow truck for the rest of the night. And no I don't mind doing my job!

Anonymous said...

My road is clean as a whistle!
I drove into work and Brighton is awful.

SCATS said...

To 3:06AM ~~ I haven't said that salting Aldis lot couldn't be by accident. However, I see no reason why that truck ever entered THAT LOT then did a circuit through it with the spreader on before departing. WHY ENTER AT ALL? A cut through would NOT require the person to do a lap around the main lot area.

As for you texting into this BLOG from the side of the road at 3AM, I think you should be fired immediately. If you are on break, find an APPROPRIATE place to stop to be out of the way of others on the streets. Otherwise, you shouldn't be stopped at all.

PS ~~ My side street was plowed after 9PM yesterday for the FIRST TIME! How do I know? We had company and had to dig them out. During that process, the Town plow FINALLY showed up. Oddly, the sidewalk was in pretty good condition.

Anonymous said...

As was said here SCATS report it. Maybe I'll be the one answering the phone and I can talk to you direct.
Second point these are big trucks which at all costs they are to never back up. Remember F airport two years ago the person was killed when one of these Riggs backed up? A forward loop is preferred and they will continue to do that if you like it or not. I do not care. Everything does not have to be justified here.

Anonymous said...

And Ridgecrest neighborhood streets are good while the sidewalks remain untouched in 3 days! How can GCSD open schools when sidewalks in neighborhoods with walkers remain unplowed?

SCATS said...

To 4:57PM ~~ I did report it. Right HERE. The 3AM plow guy responded. It's NO SECRET that this site is monitored at Town Hall, GPD, GCSD and other places.

Funny thing, they plowed the sidewalks here YESTERDAY and finally did the street twice today. Yipee. Amazing what can be had for $5000+ in taxes.

Did you get a truck number ? No , did you get a picture ? No , Description of the driver ? No , Did you ask Aldi's what maintenance company they use ? No , ( Pooler and Boon and Sons have "Big Red Trucks" ) Before accusing town workers of impropriety , get your story straight , you sound bitter after working for Kodak for thirty years and getting "let go" when your bosses chased the money and flushed that place down the crapper , you probably drive a Prius too , buy American

SCATS said...

To 12:46PM ~~ My story is not only straight, it's 100% ACCURATE :)

I know the difference between a Town truck and a garbage truck.

Besides, I graduated from a non-Greece school, so I can read. The big white emblem that says "Town of Greece" was right there on the door ;)

PS ~~ A description of the driver?? LMAO!!!! You are comedic!

BTW, never worked for Kodak (thank God!). Only drive/own GM cars ;)

SCATS said...

As stated before, comments claiming I didn't see what I very clearly saw - a big red Town of Greece plow pulled into the Aldi's lot on Mt Read Blvd and did a lap of the parking lot while cycling the salter on & off before exiting via Maiden Ln and heading west - will NOT be posted. In fact, it's doubtful anything new can be added to this classic Town of Greece screw up/cover up (which is the attempt you make by arguing what I saw).

Anonymous said...

There's no way your TOWN taxes are $5000. You'd have to live in a million dollar home for that to be true. How can we trust anything you say if you're not being honest with this.

SCATS said...

To 6:06PM ~~ You're right, because I NEVER SAID THEY WERE!

Do any of you read for meaning?

Anonymous said...

My sidewalk has not been cleared once this season by the town. I see the little sidewalk plower clearing the sidewalks on other roads, but not our street.

SCATS said...

To 4:48PM ~~ If you tell us the street name, it just might get attended to. They read this BLOG.

SCATS said...

It's obvious we really hit a nerve with this posting. The hate mail continues to arrive! So do comments that completely misconstrue what I ALREADY EXPLAINED IN DETAIL HAPPENED. Thank goodness it's very, very cold out. We need the fuel for the woodstove! lol

Too bad these folks aren't staying busy making our streets & sidewalks safer.

Anonymous said...

This is unrelated to the salting of the Aldi's parking lot but will relate to residents on the side of the street that gets plowed first. This pisses me off to no end, especially today after shoveling tons of snow by the street/driveway entrance. The town uses the same large plows to plow main streets such as Latta and Long Pond on the much narrower residential streets. I am on the side that gets plowed first so I end up receiving about 85% of the snow accumulation and many times I am buried in while the other side gets a dusting. Greece and the plow driver know this but could care less. If they cannot resolve this issue economically regarding the plows, I demand a tax reduction as I am disproportionately penalized. As I pay equal taxes, I should not receive 85% of the snow accumulation.

SCATS said...

To 3:41PM ~~ You've definitely got a valid beef!

Greece residents get coddled way to much verses other towns. A lot more services than other towns. The town I found out this year plows the sidewalks on the south and west sidewalks and next year they plow north and east sidewalks in residential areas. Our neighborhood asked the town not to plow the sidewalks on our street and with a signed petition from all the residents the town no longer plows the sidewalks.
I also heard yesterday that there will be a charge for the delivery of mulch and leaf compost. Wonder if the charges are going to fund the spray park being put at the town hall? Is this spray park for Greece residents only or is it open for all to use? Also would like to see what the final cost of the pavilion that was built at the town hall is? Where did or where is all the funding coming from? Turning out to Reilichs little Disney world. Time for a real spending audit.

SCATS said...

To 7:08AM ~~ I'm not sure that we're coddled as much as we're reamed!

I would like to know where all the $$ was "found" to build "Disney" as you call it at Town Hall given the barbs lodged at Auggie's mess left for Reilich to clean-up. A new pavilion, a spray park and a planned new HQ for the cops can't be "free." Of course the $700,000+ "bonus" from increases assessments was a HUGE help, right Supervisor??

Speaking of which, I see Leo Carroll is STILL here. I recall Reilich telling us he would be departing right after the reassessments were done. What kind of deal did they strike??
