More Friendly's Locations Close

On Sunday, January 4, 2015, Friendly's Ice Cream, LLC. announced the closing of its Friendly's location at The Mall at Greece Ridge, 338 Greece Ridge Center Drive, in Rochester, New York. The restaurant will cease operations, effective immediately. Friendly's in Rochester values its guests and thanks them for their patronage.

SCATS ~~ I wonder how may parents used the promise of ice cream to bargain for good behavior from irritable children during mall shopping trips over the decades ...

where was Friendlys located in the Greece Ridge Mall?? Sure the one that closed wasnt the one further west next to Kmart?

To 5:48PM ~~ Yes, I'm SURE. I posted the corporate Press Release. They closed the one at Market Place, too.

Yeah it was defiantly in the Mall, down by Barnes and Noble. Been there for a long time. Think,it's only a matter of time until the one on Dewey closes as well.

I guess the first post helps explain why they are closing! It's only been there for as long as I can remember.

The one on Wolfe road in albany closed as well. This is not a regional problem but corporate problem.

The blames belongs to Wilmorite.

To 7:33AM ~~ Seems as if they would have some responsibility as to whether a business flies or bombs. After they joined the two malls together, I stopped going there as much as is humanly possible - down to two trips a year ... in a busy year for me.

Shades of the demise of the Irondequoit Mall and things to come. After all they WE spent a fortune on the restructuring of the east wing with bevy of new eateries.

To 1:22PM ~~ While I don't disagree that the Greece Mall is likely headed for the same doom as Irondequoit's, Friendly's did close at least two other local locations in Nov. including one in Brockport. $10 for a burger, fries and a coke?? A couple would get better fare eating off the "two for $20" menu at Applebees!

Maybe with the new restaurants and freshened up existing ones they could no longer compete. They were all dated and not the cleanest cafeteria food.

Obviously SCATS hasn't eaten out in awhile, $10 for burger, fries and a coke is average if not cheap!!

To 3:30PM ~~ What's "OBVIOUS" is that you don't know me!! lol

If you want some GREAT Italian food, try the new Bella Pasta Cafe where Romeo's used to be. You'll get QUALITY for your $$.

A friend of mine just ate at Bella Pasta about a week ago and was very dissatisfied. He and his date both got sick and complained about hygiene issues with staff

To 5:29PM ~~ So they got ill while eating? How do we know they didn't have the flu which is running rampant (and has been) since before the holidays?

FYI, the proper place for such a complaint is to the Health Dept. Bella Pasta was inspected in mid-Oct. and had few violations compared to many other local eateries, all deemed to be "non-critical."

They said the food was not at all satisfactory. Tasted like it was leftover and reheated sauce gave them bad heartburn. I can't say if it was a bad day and they are generally good, but since you said their food was great I just wanted to note that my friend had a very different experience. I don't want them to go out of business but maybe it sounds like they are not consistent or as careful as they should be.

To 11:24PM ~~ I've only been to their new location once, so far. It was as good as it had been at the previous location AND they were very busy.

Heartburn isn't caused by poor food quality!! It's a medical condition, not food poisoning.
If the sauce gives you heartburn, then you probably shouldn't be eating highly acidic foods ;)

Went there at lunch. It was busy, however I did not think the food was as good as the previous location. I thought the food used to be great have had it catered on several occasions. My experience at the new location was not up to the standard I was expecting. The menu was not what it used to be for lunch. The sauce was not very good either, the server was rather rude and unprofessional. The owner did come around and ask how everything was. Was very eager to accommodate us. Was honest and said they had just fired two of the cooks and they were struggling a little but were committed to getting back on track. I appreciated the honesty and will go back and give it a second chance. It is a much bigger place now and I can appreciate that they have quirks to work out. I am very hopeful that my next visit will remind me of the great food I used to get at the previous location.

To 12:38AM ~~ I've heard they were somewhat saddled into having to take on Romeo's old staff at the start. Papa Joe's just a lil further south also has great food!
