Olympia Students: Fights Are Racially Motivated Gang Violence

DISTRICT LEADERS IN DENIAL

WHEC-TV reports:

"Olympia students say this is gang violence. They also say it is racially motivated. The students they say started this fight are African American and the victims are Caucasian. "Michael" (whose identity we have shielded for his safety) says he afraid to go to school."

In a written statement, the Greece Central School District denies it:

Statement from district:
The fight happened after school and off school grounds. Any time we are made aware that a fight may occur, we contact Greece Police and routinely work with them to resolve potential altercations before they escalate.
This incident was not reported to us in advance and it was not racially motivated. We were made aware after the fact. Because the fight did not occur on school grounds, Greece Police are overseeing the investigation.
As a district, we are working to identify all students involved. Participants will be subject to criminal action and school disciplinary measures.

SCATS ~~ Olympia HS has had BIG problems with racial tensions for at least the last 25 years, and the Greece Central School District remains in TOTAL DENIAL about the problems that result. If student safety were a top concern, something would have changed by now, but it hasn't.

Olympia is BY FAR the worst Greece school. Perhaps Chris Sloan needs to be replaced! This is BS, and no child should have to fear going to school, it is their right to feel safe & we pay plenty of taxes for them to attend!
When is enough enough with this district? Why always Greece? Why don't we see stories of this nature on the news from Fairport or Pittsford? It is embarrassing to say the least! Where is the home values being taught? These kids are running the school & Chris Sloan allows its, and acts like a child herself! I for one am sick & tired of the cover ups & lies!

Unfortntaely I have also heard that there are racial tensions at Arcadia too. Many people have pointed out in the past that school officials and the so-called town leaders have been unprepared for the transitions in our population as inner rim suburbs like Greece undergo changes, We need an acknowledgement that we have problems and a proactive policy to address racial conflict in schools.

All those cars driving by and no one..not one single person stops! Noone calls the cops...noone tries to stop this! That in itself is disturbing. Turn the other way and its not your problem? Everyone that was there and drove by and said nothing should be ashamed. Its bothers me that this is the kind of "community" we live in. So disappointed.

Confused. Is this Olympia Drive incident the same as the one report at the tops Plaza on Monday? Ilan Ficus

To 6:52AM ~~ Olympia is the product of YEARS of neglect by GCSD. They siphoned off the better students whose parents opted for Odyssey, then turned their backs on the problems we are seeing now.

To 6:59AM ~~ I agree 100%

To 7:14PM ~~ Don't be too harsh on the passersby. I'm not sure they would have noticed if they were paying attention to their driving. The camera angle often makes things appear much closer together or larger than things really are. What I'm wondering is whether or not any of the residents who live in the houses saw or heard anything? Were the police EVER called on Monday?

To 8:42AM ~~ It doesn't appear to be related at this point.

Ficus, yes it is. The reporter from the Monday event was on his way to lunch and said what HE heard once in the restaurant. How the kids and the police ended up in the TOPS plaza is far beyond me.At this rate the Greece Schools will become CITY WEST SCHOOLS. That reporter also mentioned he was an advocate for a Greece student . I know that reporter,I know the student he's referring to and I know of the abuse this kid is getting with the approval of GCSD. Soon ,as I am told, this story will break into your lives. GCSD I am being told will try and bury their heads in the sand as they have for the past year. This story is true to fact and the writer has already put it on social media, next is local news media.Lets see how proud the GCSD board is after this exposure.

I agree about calling the police, instead of standing around filming it & screaming, call the police! If Arcadia is just as bad as another comment stated, wouldn't surprise me, seeing as Olympia & Arcadia's principals are "life partners"

To 10:14AM ~~ I don't think the Olympia incident happened anywhere near lunchtime. I see nothing that connects the two incidents. In reality, GPD makes a number of calls to Greece schools on any given day. Fights are NOT uncommon. Getting them talked about out in the open is.

SCATS said...

To 10:19AM ~~ I don't see the connection between their personnal lives & the situations created by these fights. At this point, do they even know WHO filmed it??

I've read with great interest the many comments posted on media sites. People are NOT PLEASED by this "punish-the-photographer" mentality the GCSD has etched into policy. As many pointed out, why wouldn't they want SOLID EVIDENCE to help sort things out? Of course, the staff would be worried sick they would end up on the news for some of their shenanigans, can't have that ;)

The Rochester Police dept.has a proven Gang Intervention Specialist.
His name is Moses Robinson. Mo as I call him has given his insight all over the USA. See,if the GCSD admits they have a gang problem that automatically will make way for lawsuits should something like happen. By denying the fact,no one has to be accountable. No accountability is the mainstay of of the GCSD Board.

To 10:38AM ~~ Taken one step further, no accountability means no need to change anything, because we all know change would require new contract negotiations which means more $$.

Scats, here is a story about child abuse that is APPROVED OF through the GCSD. I (SimondaGrump) was asked to advocate for a young man in the school district. His name is Sam Malloney. I have legal authority to speak on Sams behalf. We speak of fear. We don't have a clue as to what fear is compared to what this young man has endured every day up until 9/22/14 when his mom pulled him out of school for his safety. What did the district do ? They called child protectives to have this kid removed from his home because his mother would not allow him to be treated harshly in an educational setting. THe standard covering their asses while admitting nothing.I have the pictures and documentation that I was to present to a couple Greece politicians in place of the school board . They chose not to get involved. What the hell was I thinking that they would actually rectify the school boards denial and help this child.Yes I have put this on social media and now after learning that no one will stand up and do right by this kid, lets see if local media doesn't shake their tree enough to to keep this child safe in his educational setting. It's sickening...last nite I learned that Greece Politicians want no part of helping this situation get better. They say it's a school issue and the best way to address this problem is through the school board. The same board that allowed this to happen ? The same board that set the standards for teaching special ed children. The same board that has contracts with off site schools that abuse kids in the name of discipline ? Is that the board they want me to deal with ? I THINK NOT. They know about it but have chosen to do as the politicians are doing. Admit to nothing.. I'm ashamed that I actually know these people..I just love how everybody is more concerned about covering their ass and NOT helping rectify the problems at hand. Now with that understanding soon we are all going to witness how the school board and politicians all back pedal when approached by local media. I can't wait to hear, gee they knew nothing about this. This school board and those politicians are abetting child abuse in allowing this type treatment to continue. I'll let the media broadcast the politicians involved . The same politicians that I reached out to as the school district officials were doing nothing other than denying this young man a proper education. They aren't going to appreciate this route but guess what, I don't give a damn if they like it or not. They had ample opportunity to fix this problem and the only thing they did was do their best to avoid me and the problem at hand. This story WILL NOT SIT ON THE BACK BURNER ANY LONGER. ENOUGH TIME HAS BEEN WASTED.The Grump is pissed,he tried being cordial and politically correct, honest,he did. Now the gloves come off !!!

To 11:35AM ~~ I recall the earlier story about this boy ... he's the photographer, right?

It is TYPICAL that when a parent makes waves at a Greece school, suddenly the focus gets turned back onto the parent. It's a diversion tactic intended to intimidate, silence and retain the status quo. They actually have the audacity to sit around the BOE table and shake their heads in disgust bemoaning the lack of parental involvement in Greece. It's sickening.

How can students who do want to learn be educated in this type of environment? How disturbing? It's sad and pathetic!!!

SCATS said...

To 1:34PM ~~ Of course, they can't. But education isn't GCSD's primary business. Catering to sports boosters is job #1.

This is nothing new to this school....it's been bad and just getting worse...take it back to 2006-2007 or so when we had 3 days in a row of students threating to shoot up the school and the principal claiming the school was "safe" and didn't close. Most students didn't come to school those days but when we went back there were cops everywhere in bullet proof vests. Or how about when there were 20 on 1 fights IN school...or constant bomb threats....the school has been bad for YEARS and nothing has been done to change anything about it..glad I've been out of that school and have no intentions on sending my children there.

The administrators have never been able to control the perpetrators in the Greece high schools for as long as I can remember. They seem to treat the victims like criminals, almost as if they are annoyed to have to deal with these serious problems. On the other hand, I do have a family member that goes to Olympia and is a high honor student that has never had a problem.

SCATS said...

To 12:51AM ~~ I assure you they ARE annoyed.

through not directly connected to race, Greece schools like Olympia have tolerate a bully culture for many decades. It was a bully culture there when I was growing up
