Resident Questions Library Bookstore

Asks Same Questions SCATS Asked

For years the dedicated volunteers and those of us who look for used books were in the terribly tight space just inside the entry door to the library. When the library was renovated a lovely space was created for the used book department in recognition of the revenue it brings in, for its integral part of the library and for the many citizens it serves, young and old. Now the used books enterprise will be moved and the lovely space given up for a coffee shop.

Where did this idea come from? Were there public discussions as to why and to justify costs of renovations? Was this a unilateral decision or the efforts of a committee?

I am truly disappointed with this short sighted direction.

To 11:35AM ~~ In my mind, that does not bode well to be successful in this venue.

I think its a great idea and will definitely frequent the library more often now!

To 9:13AM ~~ Good for you! I hope the library makes it possible TO REQUIRE you to check out ALL materials you take into the cafe with you so that you can pay for the damage you do to taxpayer purchased books et al when you spill your coffee and smudge the donut's frosting all over the pages :)

How will a bagel shop in the library make you frequent the library more often?

To 10:21AM ~~ It won't ... unless it's to feed a caffeine addiction.

What a mean and nasty person you are Scats. Apparently unlike you and people you know, I am perfectly capable of ready a book and drinking a coffee. Besides, if I buy a book from the used bookstore its mine so I can do whatever I want with it. Sorry I have an opinion that doesn't fit with your approval. I didn't know that was required here at this site.

To 5:40PM ~~ I'm not mean & nasty, just realistic. We weren't talking about what happens to used books after they are bought, but LIBRARY BOOKS paid for with tax $$. But then, you already knew that! lol

My son who is in a prestigious law school very often goes to our library to study. Now he can buy his coffee there and continue studying. I used to get a call from Jr. and I would drive to Tim Hortons and then bring it to him so he wouldn't miss a beat. Bravo to those progressive thinkers and now if it could only be organic.

To 9:31PM ~~ Sure he does! LMAO!!

Our oldest boy Century, went and tried to apply for a job as a book saver at the Library, part time. He likes coffee, and he can lick slicker than any dog you ever did see. He figured it would fit in with his full time job at Greece Central where he's a janitor.

Being a Greece graduate he thought he'd demonstrate his skill for the library lady. She walloped him with a tape dispenser when he poured coffee on a book to show her how good he could lick. He figures to go back next month and ask again. Till then he's going to practice in the school where he works.

I am a middle aged female around 68 years and I drink coffee. What bothers me is not those that drink coffee but those that put books in the wrong spot. No one knows dewy decimal anymore.
People should be able to drink coffee it is a free country after all. Another thing is those darn dog eared pages. Please don't do that to the books.

To 4:42PM ~~ I'm quite a bit younger than you and I like bacon. People should be allowed to microwave bacon while reading a book at the taxpayer funded library. Grease stains on the pages don't bother me at all. But when I don't get enough bacon, I dog-ear pages and misfile books.

Looks like we've all got our problems :D

Looks like you're trying to make a mockery out of me. I frequent the library quite often so I will be looking for you. Bacon you say, that gives off a distinct odor even whilst not consuming it in my presence. A.J.R.D

To 10:55PM ~~ Don't worry about it. It required no effort at all :)

PS ~~ LOTS of people are looking for me! Say hello to them for me. Thanks :)
