Maybe Julia and her lawsuits?

Since any member at any time on any subject can request a special meeting, it's anyone's guess what it's all about.
However, public notice of such meeting must be published 24 hrs prior to the meeting along with the subject matter. Or it could be just a rouse to have an executive session meeting which only take place from an
actual posted meeting .

The meeting was requested by the ex president . Since it has to be an employee issue, I will leave the identity of that employee to your imagination. Phase 2 of someone's agenda.

If this meeting has anything to do with Julia's hostilities with the ex coach, it's time for Sean to put the hammer down and rule her out of order if she tries to get the board to get further involved in her personal vendetta.
He should rule it's no longer a district or board problem and move on, Anything less on his part would equate to weak leadership on his part in the furtherance of an issue that is not in the best interests of the district .
Because it's exec session , we may never know unless it comes up at the august 12 meeting. We can only hope That McCabe and the rest if the board do the right thing.

Wouldn't it be fun if a ROOMFUL of soccer parents showed up for the opening of the meeting? They have to allow you stay. After they do the Pledge and adopt their agenda, they can move to go into Exec Session & leave the roomful of folks to come back to when they must officially close the meeting - also in open session.

It might send a message ... ;)

There's one problem as I see it. In order to adjourn the meeting, they need only open the door to the board room and adjourn the meetng from there, not the meeting room. The August 12th meeting is their best bet to send the message. I believe the rules on the public forum have a 30 minute time frame. If they keep their message short, more than six speakers can be heard in that time. If they do, Maybe they can successfully get Julia to lose it and react. That would be the fun part , I think. If she does , it would be priceless. Lol

SCATS said...

To 2:09PM ~~ They must adjourn it in public after asking for a motion to adjourn. Aren't we saying the same thing?

The public has the right to be there just in case they find the need to vote on something after their closed 'n clubby meeting.

The way I see it is, until they either get rid of Julia VanOrman or they are able to gag and hog tie her these types of things will continue. She claims it's all for the children but really it's all for JULIA.

SCATS said...

To 2:54PM ~~ LMAO @ that image!!

Can you say mid-life crisis?

Remember most Supt have a big clause in their contract, that he/she, in this case Barbara, has the RIGHT to appoint the district staff. Going to the board is suppose to be only an accepted formality.

Supt, Barbara could post the soccer coaching job. If the former coach applies, she could be within her contract, to appoint him back into the soccer head coaching job.

In this way she would be showing Julia that, she Barbara, is still the Supt. and is in charge of the district. Of course all hell would break out with Julia but it would be so much fun to watch this year.

The BOE only can technically hire three people: the Supt., the Treasurer and the district attorney.

Come on Barbara!. What do you have to loose? You have a five year contract, with plenty of time to look for a new job, with a very big buy out bonus with your five year contract.

Looking forward to seeing you stand up.

Enjoy

Not really. Unless the meeting has a specific stated purpose there probably would not come to that. By simply opening the door, they are inviting the public in attendance, to come in and witness a motion to adjourn .

SCATS said...

To Doug ~~ I'd LOVE to see Babs do that too! I'm not holding my breath, but it would be great drama to watch.

To 7:47PM ~~ They can "adjourn" to Exec. Session, but that's not the same as adjourning the meeting they called.

Anonymous said...

They make a motion to go into executive session. It needs to have majority. It is part of the meeting. they do not adjourn to an exec session.
This link also shows we can get the minutes even the draft minutes within 2 weeks of the meeting. Within 1 week of an executive session.

To 12:36PM ~~ You've uncovered another procedure they do improperly. Imagine that!

Best bet! Julia makes move to get rid of Superintendent .I got my money on that happening. Why not. If her groupies on the board are under her spell , it's a safe bet. Part two of her power trip. The first one was merely a drill leading up to the BIGGIE!

SCATS said...

To 9:33AM ~~ I thought they were such good gal pals ... what happened to that? If she did accomplish such a thing, then what? Name herself interim??

Anonymous said...

I agree 100% with 9:33 am. Julia would love nothing more then to get rid of Barb. The first time a superintendent doesn't agree with Julia she goes for thier throat. Lets just hope the others on the board aren't under her spell. Who in their right mind would come to Greece after all the damage Julia has caused. It's time for Julia to go, is there a way to get rid of to get rid of her?

SCATS said...

To 11:18AM ~~ Did you miss the fact she got others to go along with her to get rid of the coach?

If you want to rid Greece of this BOE member, then DO NOT RE-ELECT HER next May!

Anonymous said...

Is the employee issue simply to appoint Hueber's replacement?

Anonymous said...

My problem is not with Julia. after all it's Julia just being Julia. My problem is with any board that boards her train. They are the ones that matter
as the manic number is FIVE.
She has a year to wreak havoc on this district but only if four other board members join her crusade. With out the magic number , she is reduced to nothing.
The question? Why would any supposedly intelligent board member be dumb enough commit public suicide and jump off the deep end with her? .

SCATS said...

To 2:04PM ~~ IT BETTER NOT BE, since that is NOT Exec. Session material! Appointments MUST BE VOTED ON PUBLICLY!

SCATS said...

To 2:48PM ~~ And the BIGGEST question of all, as someone else pointed out in the past week, is: WHY DID GRINNAN GO ALONG WITH HER???

Someone must have doctored his Wheaties!

Anonymous said...

The replacement has been hired and will be on the agenda for the August meeting for board approval He's already on the payroll as a teacher.

SCATS said...

To 3:46PM ~~ That is as it should be. TY.

Anonymous said...

It sounds personal to me . Both he and Julia boycotted BAB's annual board outing at the Lyndonville Estate a week ago.

SCATS said...

It's not nice to boycott Bab's! ;)

Anonymous said...

The new coach is Mike Butler teacher and long time coach. Excellent choice and right for the kids and the program .

SCATS said...

To 6:16AM ~~ So I read, regarding his appointment. Apparently Hueber was at least as good ... they kept him for 25 YEARS!!!

SCATS said...

Maybe Butler should keep one eye on his back ... just in case Julia or one of her crones on the BOE get another mid-life itch.

Anonymous said...

Or better yet, he decides to finally become a real Coach - which he has not and not a GCSD plant, which he is and they desperately need, who does what he's told. Cause not doing what you're told by Admin seems to land you in the S#%@ soup. All GCSD teachers who attempt to coach cannot realistically do so. The terms of contractual teaching aligned with coaching mean that you cannot perform both without stepping on District toes. Who in their right mind would take a pittance stipend for coaching that could prove to be your undoing as teachers who earn upper 5 figure salaries?

It's lose, lose! Remove sports from education and let coaches coach, teachers teach, and parent pay privately for sports!!!

SCATS said...

To 4:24PM ~~ Interesting ... especially in light the HUNDREDS of teachers who are approved to recieve coaching stipends every year!

I especially agree with your final statement. Making academics the PRIMARY AREA OF COMPETITION FOR A PUBLIC SCHOOL IS KEY TO BOOSTING PERFORMANCE/OUTCOME. Imaging if we actually did that??

Anonymous said...

Today's parents have ruined the value of sports programs in the overall educational experience.Want proof ,just attend a game and watch what takes place in the gallery and the sidelines Supposed adults behaving badly.Role models in action, right? It's tough to be a coach these days precisely because of this .
You couldn't pay me enough to put up with this kind of crap.

SCATS said...

To 3:52PM ~~ Today's parents?? Ha! I'm aware of grown men yelling the "F" word at a bunch of 5-7 yr. old GIRLS learning to play soccer ... 25+ years ago! Organized sports and retention of self-esteeem do not mix.

Anonymous said...

Scats; It's obvious to me that you have no" hands on" experience with concerns about the value of organized sports
I write as a professional who actually worked with children out side the confines of the school district. It has been my experience that is many cases, children exposed to these programs, lacking in self esteem , gained it as a result of organized sports programs. It instilled a sense of belonging, along with the value of working with others as a team to accomplish established goals and objectives.
In this highly competitive environment that we now live
in, it is impossible to under estimate the values learned as a result of their exposure to these character forming programs of learning.

SCATS said...

To 10:02AM ~~ Every time someone tries to school me about the "character-forming" importance of school district sports teams, the mugshot of our infamous past hockey player comes to mind! On the coaching end, Webby was quite the role model ... both of them were in the news at least twice each. Then there's the hockey parents ... SMH!

Scats As parent of child who seemed to be struggling with fitting in during his primary school setting and finding it difficult to make friends, I can relate to what 10:04 said.
Doctors and others we talked to describe him as a late bloomer and he would out grow his problem in this area. He was always big for his age.
During his first year in high school, his gym teacher suggested he try out for the school football team. He came home and we talked it over. I was cool to the idea but my husband took a different approach suggesting that he decide if he wanted to do it and we would back him. Well he decided to do it and he made the team.
Within a short time thereafter, our son's transition was well underway. He became confident that he could contribute to the team and his personal self esteem literally went thru the roof. In addition, Jared's class room grades improved.
In your response to the previous poster, I agree that there are always going to be few rotten apples in any program, but I think it's unfair to judge the success of sports by the acts of few and those you mention.

Anonymous said...

Scats you put down 3:52 then then appear to agree with him when you mention the hockey parents in you10:24 post. How come? Not very consistent in my opinion .

SCATS said...

To 3:31PM ~~ There was no put down. (Maybe a lil sarcasm)

I DID AGREE WITH HIM/HER ;)

BTW, why doesn't the district TAKE BACK CONTROL of the sports teams from these moronic parents? I'll tell you why: M-O-N-E-Y! Not to mention fame & recognition, because winning is ALL that matters ... and THAT'S the underlying problem.

SCATS said...

To 1:57PM ~~ IF GCSD sports teams gave ALL THE KIDS A CHANCE TO PLAY, I'd be fine with it. But there are way too many bench warmers on these teams. Please tell me why J-Mac was able to shoot/score all those points in one game but wasn't good enough to play as a regular team member?

If you want your kid to develop self-esteem & confidance, shop around for the right fit in some sort of martial arts classes. In there, kids learn team-work, too. And there's NEVER any yelling of foul language, ranting by the instructors over a loss, etc. BUT there's LOTS of discipline.

Anonymous said...

Your reference to the J-Mac incident to make your point doesn't cut it. This was a situation agreed to by opposing coaches prior to the game. The kid had a disability that prevented him from regular play. What took place that night and what the kid accomplished is history. However, he had a lot of help from opposing players as well as members of the team he was associated with.

SCATS said...

To 6AM ~~ LMAO!! I've said that from the gitgo, only to hear a LOT of crapple about how I'm prejudiced against the learning impaired!

TY for telling us all about how J-Mac & his coach are MAKING A FORTUNE (to this day) OFF A TOTAL SCAM ;)

Anonymous said...

Kinda drifting off here but your scam comment deserves a rebuttal First, all the Greece Athena players asked the coach to do this prior to the game. It was their idea and two coaches and a bunch of good kids and good sports took part in getting him in the game even though he was not a team member but the manager.
Secondly, nobody from the coaches, players and spectators had any idea that he would accomplish such an outcome. Nobody put the ball in the hoop for him. He did that amazing feat by himself. Not an easy thing to do from his distance from the basket.
If not for the fact that a Greece Athena staff member sent a letter to the local media recounting what took place, did this occasion get local media coverage and the eventual national coverage.
Come to think of it, this was the last positive situation to come out of this school district. It made us all look good, even if it was to be short lived.

Only then enter Magic Johnson offering to buy the movie rights which he did.
No scam here at all. Just sudden good fortune for some involved due to the actions of a bunch of kids who wanted to do something good for a fellow classmate and team member.

SCATS said...

To 3:11PM ~~ I'm sorry but SCAM defines* the entire escapade in that the PUBLIC WAS NEVER TOLD THAT OPPOSING TEAM MEMBERS WERE TO STAY BACK! It was and still is being sold as a miraculous accomplishment by an autistic teen. There are NO FOOTNOTES about what really happened ... which is obvious to anyone watching videotape more than twice.

Good ole Greece Central ... internationally known for an autistic "sports star," a drinking hockey coach who didn't read his employee manuals, a bus monitor who sat there & took it while on the clock for her paycheck, an ASL teacher making sure her students learned to sign the most disgusting vulgarities, and a school board who only cares about themselves.

*SCAM = a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation

Anonymous said...

There is also another word. INTENT. Allow me to try and debunk your scam theory. Had the boy involved had not made any of the shots, there would be no story. Whether the other team laid back and let him shoot, there was no expectation on the part of those involved that he would ultimately score 21 pts. In the 2 minutes he played. The fact of matter is that he alone had to put the ball in the net.
It became a story after the fact only because he did what he did. No intent to commit a deceptive act or operation on the part of anyone. C'mon man, how about a little credit where credit is due.Forget about the school district and give the lad the credit he deserves for his success that night. Would it really hurt?
.

SCATS said...

To 6:14PM ~~ LMAO @ YOU trying to debunk my posting!! Don't look now Sherlock, but you have NO CLUE what you're talking about! The TRUTH: J-Mac's fame on the court lasted 4 minutes, 19 seconds and he scored 20 points. I've looked at multiple websites about this story and NOT A SINGLE ONE even hints that it was anything short of a miracle from above!

The other part of the TRUTH is that both J-Mac and Jim Johnson continue to profit from the "miracle" story! If the TRUTH were known, there'd be nothing for Johnson to sell. Thus, it's a SCAM.
