Babs Backs BOE Vote on Coach

Fear of facing widespread community backlash at the August BOE meeting causes GCSD's top administration to make the unprecedented move of having their PR person submit an editorial "supporting" the BOE's vote on the Athena soccer coach choice.

SCATS ~~ Exactly WHO is really "reaching out to the community?" Is it the BOE? Is it Babs? Or is it Laurel Heiden? Looks to me like Laurel Heiden at the behest of Babs! She must fear what caused the demise of Steve Achramovitch who dared to oppose the district's sports supporters!!

Did Babs decide her recommendation to the board was wrong? Or does she fear losing a disagreement over it (and ultimately her job) in Greece?

This is totally gutless on her part. Where's her sense of conviction?

It comes down to numbers. If the BOE and their employee, Babs, hear that many folks in town are upset with this backstabbing, then they will suddenly grow a set or a spine and make the change. If the people of Greece roll over and let the wanna-be powers do their thing, nothing will change. The ball is in our court. Are there petitions being circulated? Are there letter writing campaigns being organized?

To 7:07PM ~~ There was the "threat" that lots of supporters of the coach would show up at the Aug. BOE meeting. That's exactly what happened the night the BOE allowed the hockey parents to neuter Achramovitch. Several BOE members from that era remain today. After that night, he was personna non grata and left not long afterward.

The board meeting will be well attended by angry people over the boards antics over the coaching as well as the back door sale of Kirk Road to yet another charter school. I hope that the number of people that show up send a strong message to the board and the superintendent that the manipulation will not be tolerated any longer. Maybe the community should vote whether we want the BOE and the Superintendent any longer. Many do not trust either of them anymore after stunts like these.

Was there no print media that would listen to Ms Heiden as she presented her case? Maybe the Rochester Business Journal was busy as was the Daily Record where we now find our public notices as to meetings and bids and voting locations since they canned the Greece Post. So she had to write a letter to the editor of the Greece Post and hope they would print it. And we know there wasn't a "conflict" under the legal definition since none of the board members were related to the coach or had a business venture that would benefit from his hiring. But there was the appearance of malice in that there was a past relationship where 2 board members felt offended by the coach and took it out on him by rallying others to join in their blackballing. It gave them the feeling of belonging to an exclusive club and they could exclude him for no valid reason. Let's hope his supporters will be out in full force at the August meeting if they aren't intimidated before that time. Frankly the letter was kind of weak and feeble. Looks like the administration is feeling the heat.

To 11:46PM ~~ It appears to me that GCSD is suffering "payback" by local print media for dropping them as the "official" newspapers. I guess great minds think alike ... I'm planning a BLOG on that very topic ;)

Yes, I hope they show up with petitions, the press AND young students to cry into the mics at the Aug. BOE meeting. It's the type of spectacle our BOE adores.

I think it's safe to say that the author would not have wrote this piece without the approval of the Super.
Because BDW has chosen this path, I have lost some respect for her as a person of conviction. After all, the board disrespected her original position of rehiring the coach . No self respecting Superintendant likes her board to reject her recommendations, How ever, it appears that in the usual spirit of board philosophy, go along to get along, she tossed him under the bus so as not to offend the 4 members who voted AGAINST HER. Not exactly an example of a person with strong convictions and self respect.

To 9:36AM ~~ I think the author was ORDERED to write it by Babs ;)

I agree ... lack of convictions = SPINELESS!

Poor choice of venue to try and explain your position. THE GREECE POST? Very few people bother to read this fish wrapper anymore. They can't even give copies away.
Perish the thought but they would have reached more people if they posted it on this blog site.

Since the Post and channel 10 are news partners, I wouldn't be surprised to see Berkley Breen or Brett Davidson snooping around between now and the next board meeting.
Also, if the media gets wind of a possible revolt at that meeting, look for the cameras to show up. I'm going.

To 10:47AM ~~ Perish the thought?? Thanks! Our numbers are up this spring!

I'm not sure what the Post's circulation figures are these days, but I'm told they actually attempt to SELL copies of it at certain local retailers.

Berk 'n Brett probably have bigger fish to fry these days. Maybe a lower level reporter ...?

I think the Aug. meeting will be quit well attended ... poor, poor Babs.

So, for those who don't know, the next meeting is Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 6:30 PM, a "Regular Business" meeting upstairs at the new Odyssey.

How many will really show up? And who will be there only for the coach, and not for the sale of Kirk road? The powers that be take community engagement as a sign of caring. Showing up to a meeting is ten times more effective than posting a comment on a website.

SCATS,

Did you notice the opening of the piece? "Given recent comments made in the media..." etc, referring to potential conflicts of interest.

Where in the media was the possibility of conflicts of interest addressed? Isn't this blog pretty much the only place where that aspect was openly addressed?

Is GCSD acknowledging you as the media these days? Maybe you could get the contract for publishing their notices...

To 11:37AM ~~ TY for the thought but I will NEVER sell my soul to the devil :)

You are the devil! Another pointless thread. I don't see you getting all up in arms when teachers get the boot wrongfully. I recall there being a huge turn out at a meeting in defence of a teacher. That went no where fast, even tho that had been all over media. I think the writers of this blog are confussed and paranoid.

SCATS said...

To 12:21PM ~~ I'm neither "the devil" nor "confussed" whatever that means. Are you Canadian??

Teachers have a tool to help them when they screw up, unless they do it so badly (like that ASL teacher at Olympia HS who had no logical defense for writing the most tasteless profanity on the classroom chalkboard) - it's called GTA, their UNION. They pay into it and they get legal aid, due process, etc. at taxpayer's expense.

This poor coach gets nothing but his name smeared without reason by a couple of conniving, has-been soccer moms on the BOE ... and a former team member with an ax to grind.

How are you these days Donald? lol

SCATS said...

BTW 12:21PM, don't look now but this "pointless thread" has helped push for the BOE to call for a Special Meeting Tuesday night WHERE THEY WILL REVOTE HIS APPOINTMENT.

Of course, they are likely to botch it up further unless they school themselves on what it requires to extricate their collective arses from the muck ;)

With all the bluster, I ask, where does this go?

No one here has any standing to change, fix , nor positively alter the outcome of all the crap occurring within GCSD.

May you all rant, despise, hate, and cry...

MR. SCAT's, tell us what to do.

How do we change 30 years of ineptitude? Impeach all? Vote out an entire Board, the super, an all the minions? How long might it take? And tell us whom to keep, whom to boot, whom to elect...?

And then please, up front, take the sole responsibility for the outcome of the decisions and actions undertaken by those chosen as a result of your advice and predictions as to which saviors upon whom we would cast our vote!

SCATS said...

To 5:34PM ~~ I refuse to accept responsibility for a group that gets elected BY THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE who has divorced themselves from becoming knowledgeable about those they elect!

The first order of business to correct the current sorry state of affairs should be to get people TO ATTEND the BOE meetings, speaking at Resident's Forum regularly about the direction the BOE/district are headed in, etc.

Unless the public at least appears to be interested and tuning in NOTHING MUCH WILL CHANGE. They would have no motivation to ;)

SCATS said...

BTW, things will likely get worse, too, now that nearly every BOE member has CLOSE TIES TO THE UNION ... often via family member employees.

Dont look now, but your "awesome" blog fell short once again! Not as powerful as u try to come off as, are you? Laughable to say the least.

SCATS said...

To 4PM ~~ WHERE did I ever call this an "awesome" blog?? I DIDN'T!

What's laughable was your follow-up remark with initials for a "signature" lol
