Why would you sell a property worth several million for a song?
Greece tax payers talked about Britton Road for over 20 years now. Hoover drive was sold for pennies on the dollar and now Kirk Road! That property is worth more to keep for over flow than just give it away.
The guy buying these buildings owns Jasco tool, he leases them to charter school organizations and the Greece tax payers end up paying for school supplies and transportation. Where is the savings? A one time 1,000,000. Is not a savings!

To 6PM ~~ Hoover Dr. didn't belong to GCSD.

You talk as if Kirk Rd. has sold. HAS IT??

Your right, Hoover belong to GCSD tax payers. The Britton family donated the land, tax payers built the structure. if the family owned it, the building would not be able to be sold. The family did not keep up with the deed stipulations!

I don't know if Kirk has sold or not. But it would be a huge loss and a shame!

To 6:22PM ~~ Don't forget, West Ridge is sitting there, basically empty, too. It costs $$ to hold onto empty facilities.

Regarding Hoover, how was it able to be sold when the tax payers have a 15 year bond on it from the 2002? Steve Walts era 200 million capital project? The information from that project showed over 13 million spent on Hoover improvements. Maybe a question for NYS Ed?

To 6:27PM ~~ Great question.

Kirk road also had capital project work done during the same bond approval. How can it be sold with bond dept?

They will just use the proceeds from the sale to buy back the bonds (if the building is held as collateral) or not.

Let's not forget the additional $200.000 spent to air condition the third floor for a couple of years.
BTW, the building always sat in the middle of the Koda Vista cancer cluster and still does as a result of Kodak Chemical pollution. What ever they got for it, good riddance!

Fire sale.

11:36 Unless they are required by law to use the proceeds to pay back the bonds they won't, anymore than they use the state rebates for capital projects to pay down the bonds. Anymore than we ever see the money that comes from the state write-offs for buying buses. That money just gets absorbed and we keep paying on the "loans". We will be paying on those capital projects for the duration. It is like people that refinance their houses, pay off only the first loan's remainder and keep the rest to spend on a car or vacation. Now they have a new longer loan to repay and less equity in their property. It's like we are paying the loan on a car that was totalled and we still owe on it for 3 more years. It is a debt and obligation. Even if the building vanished we owe that. Hey wait Kirk Rd did vanish along with Barnard and Hoover. We still owe on those loans. At least if they are sold we don't have to pay for utilities and upkeep. If we sell for a school use we won't get property tax income from it. And the school children in that building will not be Greece children so don't say we are getting that benefit. The Discovery school at Hoover only serves city kids. The new Renaissance charter that has an address of Hoover but will not fit into Hoover Building will only serve city kids and families. So we have sold and might be selling a building that is probably upside down for what we owe,we will get no tax revenue on a yearly basis, our kids will not be in these school buildings, and we still owe on the bonds for the work on those buildings. Who got the gold mine and who got the shaft? The properties better be sold for near the asking prices which are way below "appraised value" according to the county tax site. Otherwise we are subsidizing a private venture for city residents at the expense of the school children of Greece.
Why should our children have to foot the bill for a project of Jasco and Wegmans and Constellation to benefit the experiment for the city kids. Let them have their charters for city kids in the city. Education Enterprise of New York foundation has a website www.e2ny.org
