Greece Police Closing 390 Shooting Case

13WHAM reports: "Greece Police said Tuesday they are closing their investigation into a reported shooting incident along Route 390 near West Ridge Rd. last week.

Last Wednesday, police closed portions of Route 390 near West Ridge Rd. after they received a report of a vehicle struck by a bullet last Monday evening during rush hour traffic.

The subsequent investigation yielded little to no information about the reported incident, according to Greece Police Lt. Casey Voelkl.

Police have not released the identity of the driver who reported the incident.

Pending a couple more leads, Lt. Voelkl said the investigation will be closed shortly."

SCATS ~~ EXACTLY WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?? Was there a shot fired, or wasn't there? Or are they unable to tell?

One might expect that the police could tell if the car had a bullet hole in it. Of course, it doesn't tell where the car was when the hole was made. Seems odd that because they couldn't find a casing or a bullet, they are closing the investigation. Is there more to it?

To 9:28PM ~~ The report I heard was that the windshield was shattered.

UPDATE ~~ "This afternoon, Voelkl said police could not determine "with certainty" that the vehicle had actually been struck by a bullet. "The possibility remains that it could have been damaged by other means," he said.

So then the possibility also remains that it was in fact struck by a bullet!

Police and State close lanes of 390 at ridge first going north then the south bound lane. They were looking from the bridge over the 390 there which is ridge rd. Obviously the unnamed motorist figured his windshield damage started there. He might have found out later that the damage was caused by a bullet maybe when the professional that was replacing the windshield told him.
(If he knew right away and informed police why did it take 48 hours before the investigation? This sounds like a sniper practicing or just having a little spree. He could return or do it somewhere else) Then motorist called the police. (Or he called right on Monday after the damage/hit and police stalled.)
How could a bullet end up damaging a car in that vicinity? Someone shot a weapon of some sort that caused it. What were the police looking for? Just because they didn't find evidence does not mean there was not someone shooting off a weapon. Unless the driver was a target of a planned assassination it seems random. In any case Monday April 21st around 5:30 pm rush hour someone shot off a weapon that caused this. Random and deadly if it reached a living target. The police owe us an explanation. So much for transparency and public safety.

Or a false claim by someone trying an insurance scam. Which much to all your chagrin, would mean the cops got it right yet again and someone may be going up on charges relating to fraud?

To 6:18PM ~~ They don't bring in the FBI to investigate a possible "insurance scam." Get real!

Insurance scam to get your windshield replaced? We all have total glass coverage. Don't try to divert our attention to the curtain. Something happened on Monday April 21st at rush hour. Looks like a sniper. They are not telling everything.

PHYSICAL EVIDENCE! PHYSICAL EVIDENCE , is needed to determine if this was a crime, Absent none, no witnesses to the alleged shooting only a statement from the alleged victim is all the cops had to go on. Victim not able to identify anyone who might want to harm him, it's a dead end, Nothing that justifies a continued investigation in terms of resources and
satisfy you. As for a sniper, i don't think so given the location, traffic etc, Snipers like to have cover not wide open spaces with hundreds of potential witness.
If it happened, my money is on a shot from a moving
Car with a hand gun of sorts,For your info, the cops have had a car parked on the overpass as a result.more or less as a deterrent to future incidents.

To 3:57PM ~~ Broken glass AND a shot through fender ARE PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, right?
