This is absolutely disgusting and disturbing! Again, GCSD should be ashamed of themselves. Where is the accountability for what is being taught in the classroom? How often does administration just "pop" their head in to the classrooms to prevent a teacher from this type of inappropriate behavior? From what I can make out of the word on the top, this would actually be grounds for dismissal of someone's employment under SEXUAL HARASSMENT in the real world! You could not say that vulgar word to someone or write that vulgar word at a place of employment and not expect to be called out on sexual harassment. Why would there be an exception made for a classroom and why is this teacher not suspended yet during investigating this matter? What message is this sending to our students? So glad this mother came forward to make Greece residents aware of what our tax dollars are supporting in our classrooms here. Way to go again, GCSD.... another negative point in the media for us yet again!

To 3:48PM ~~ Dealing with a tenured teacher takes lots of both time & money. They are very difficult to dislodge, and have many protections, plus the union on their side. Of course, they want us to believe these teachers are oh so devoted to the well-being of all children ... to which I say "BS!"

Kudos SCATS! I must agree it is easier to disbar a judge or even impeach a president than it is to remove a tenured teacher.

The child and her mother should be congratulated for their courage in binging this forward. Seems like a no brainer but unfortunately the fear of retribution from the teacher, other students that enjoyed the "game," administrators who would rather not have to deal with issues, and the union that protects their own no matter what can unfortunately be a threat.
Btw ... Took me a while but I finally figured out the blurred out word. If I had paid attention in class more I would have gotten it sooner LOL

To 9:59AM ~~ I agree. In fact, I messaged the mom and told her that it took bravery on her daughter's part. She might still suffer from retaliation, since mom hasn't met with Babs yet. In fact, I'll be shocked if there is NO retaliation. It's just not GTA's way. I suspect she will be punished for using her phone in class to take that pic.

As for the pic, I have a copy of the unedited one and it is VERY SHOCKING in its clarity!!! There's NO mistaking that word.

Sort of puts me in mind of the time when little Chevelle came home with her copy of the weekly list of new words she learned in school. BethAnn was a little less than impressed with some of them words I tell you. She called up the school and BethAnn learned some new words from that Department Head woman she spoke with.

Next thing I walk into a house where an irate woman is on one of them conference calls with Rev Feldic's wife and 4 or 5 other wimmen setting up an invasion of that there schoolhouse with the good Reverend in tow.

That meeting so depressed Rev Feldic he dang near took up handling serpents then and there. Following Sunday I like to grew callouses on my butt listening to Rev Feldic bellowing on about the true evil of this world being the Civil Serpent who in his opinion was far lower than any snake ever created.
Few weeks later the Feldics moved back to Kentucky so their children could get some proper learning.

I guess it was a good thing Chevelle didn't have one of them cameras when she was in school. Some of what she learned on the bus was even worse.

To 2:32PM ~~ Yes, parents must beware of "hands on" experience in school these days. So many teachers are trying to find "love" with their students.

Not to defend the teacher, but this type of language is actually par for everday usage in the halls and sometimes in the classrooms. Administrators allow it and rarely do they enforce the rules of proper language. Many times they hide in their offices so that they don't have to deal with this. When a teacher confront a student that is using foul language many times the teacher becomes the target of such abuse and when they write a referral it goes nowhere.

To 10:29PM ~~ Obviously, if either the administrators or the teachers thought that was a problem, their union would be barking at the BOE about it. The truth is, they don't bother even sending their brass to most BOE meetings any more. It's a non-issue ;)

There is no exlaination, excuse, justification or "professional academic freedom" this teacher could never give me to support using those words, on a screen, in front of a class of students.

It makes no difference that students use the words or that it maybe use more commonly in our society. Adults, teachers, administrators, parents religious leaderss have a responsibility to be professional and positive MENTORS for all students.

If this incident happenwd as shown, it requires a public follow up to find out district action. As a principal in ancient times, I would have recommended that this teacher would be immediately removed from the classroom, being paid, but doing curriculum work at district office or at home while we went through the legal, contract process. My recommendation would be a six month suspension, without pay, and return to another school building.

Sincerely

Doug Skeet

Doug ~~ Sadly, we rarely learn the outcome of such incidents. The district hides behind the words "personnel issue" to keep us in the dark.

What a shame you pundits have no clue and wish to make a mountain out of a probable mole hill! Take a look at the world going on around you... Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, legalized marijuana, Clifford Ave. killings, a self serving, ignorant, Liberal idiot President and then ask yourselves "In that context, how big of a deal is this really, especially when I don't know all the facts yet?" It's time for GCSD to stand up to all you careless naysayers, explain their perception of reality, and then invite you to come on in and help bring about the change you rant for(instead of all the bitching) but so far are unwilling to facilitate. This ugliness is borne of people who want everyone else to take care of their little darlings but are ill equipped as parents(children's primary educators)to teach what street smarts and knowledge are truly necessary to survive in a world created by those self same parents. Grow up, take a stand, and offer to become part of the solution!

To 6:48PM ~~ The parent DID take a stand!! She stood up to the bureaucrats ;)

AND ... she won! The teacher just resigned!

SCATS said...

Oh and BTW ... GCSD confirmed the photo was authentic :D

news says the mother posted the picture on FB, her page is open to public view and she is friends with other children...her offense is just as bad. why re-post something for others to see if you think it was so horrible. She is just as bad as the teacher, maybe she should be forced to resign from her job, parent-hood. I don't knock her for contacting school with her concerns, but don't be a hypocrite and re-post for the potential other children to see.

To 4:12PM ~~ I completely disagree! Social media, like the internet, is a "buyer (reader) beware" territory. A classroom should not be.

4:12 Agree with SCATS. And the teacher did not just write those words. The students were required to act them out. Disgusting. Disturbing. Child abuse bordering on sexual abuse. If they were acting out "market" or "party" that would be harmless. Acting out a sex behavior....even though Clinton did not think it was....is child abuse and can only be done for the enjoyment of the adult. How long was this going on and will the counselors be listening to the students. Will the parents of the students and actors that came into contact with this teacher be notified. Will the play that this teacher was directing be cancelled.

To 9:30AM ~~ Can you imagine if Child Protective Services was called to a home where that word was on a posted sheet of paper on a wall and the children said they had to play charades using that word?? I can't imagine the parents being allowed to "explain" in any possible way that would make it OK. The few who are supporting this teacher maybe have that paper in their home ...?
