RRFD Fireman Charged In Stabbing

Benjamin Deragon, 2

Suspended After Assault Outside Strip Club

RPD charged Benjamin Deragon with second-degree assault after he stabbed 25-year-old Jason Brand, of Rochester. Investigators say Brand received stitches for a laceration to his mid-torso area.

Court records state that Deragon was with several others who together asked for a lift from three men leaving The Barrell of Dolls strip club. A repeated refusal sparked an argument that led to the stabbing.

Deragon pleaded not guilty in City Court Monday morning and was remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or bond.

RRFD says Deragon is a firefighter with their district and that he has been with them since February 2012. He has been suspended from his position. The Ridge Road Fire District say they are cooperating with police investigation. In a statement, the district says “this will not affect the day to day operation of the fire district as we continue to provide emergency service to the community.

SO WHAT'S YOUR POINT?

This event should be followed by this blog as an object lesson in civil service law and Union politics. The rules and regulations of his employer clearly state that any conduct that brings discredit upon the organization shall be grounds for dismissal. Watch how hard his "Union Brothers" will use their Union Legal Funds and try to manipulate management and their labor contract to save this "sh=t birds job. Let Me see, the place he was in is well known for all kinds of nefarious activity (ask any RPD guy). He is a sworn public servant( took an oath to up hold the constitution, the laws of the state of New York and the Town of Greece.. This is the person you might let into your home at 3 am. Carry's a dangerous weapon and allegedly stabs a man in the BACK. He should be drug tested by his employer as soon as is practicable just for starters. Hero's yeah right if you say so it must be true.

To 2:27PM ~~ My point? Oh, I just like to shine the high beams on these "assets to our community" when they drop their "hero" halo ;)

And Bud Phillips hasn't brought "discredit upon the organization...?" Hmmm, why have the ELECTED fire commissioners remained silent on his issues?

To 10:09PM ~~ Probably because of the union politics (i.e. "brotherhood") mentioned by 4:17PM. They can do no wrong.

My Uncle Ben was just standing there leaning against the light post peeling his apple when that other guy slipped on the ice and fell backwards right onto Uncle Ben's knife, and that's the truth.

Uncle Ben was there with 5 other Firemen standing by just in case the bar caught fire and the strippers needed help staying warm when they ran out of the bar.
Union Firemen do things like that to be of service to the community when they ain't riding firetrucks around the Mall.

Uncle Ben is going to let me sit on the firetruck and blow the siren when he gets back to work.

Conviction of felonious assault brings with it an automatic dismissal under NYS Civil Service Law. The unions have no standing under these circumstances .
Also it would be prudent to recognize that this person was off duty when the alledged incident occurred . Thus it would be considered an Independant Folley and the fire district has no liability in this regard
Since all union contracts are superceeded by State or Federal Law, the union is powerless to act.
Besides, keeping his job is the least of his problems as his most immediate problem is staying out of jail.

4:17 &10:09 Who's CARRY?
What has Philips done to require Commissioner action?
Please explain so I can understand what you are referring to.

To 9:53AM ~~ I believe "Carry's" (sic) isn't a who, but an action ... it was stated that this guy "CARRY'S" a dangerous weapon ... we now know for sure it isn't his brain.

We have firemen hanging at strip bars...where are our cops hanging?

To 3:51PM ~~ We discovered that young K-9 cop who was trolling for males was hanging out at bars in Irondequoit & Webster near the waterfront, as I recall.
