Todd Baxter Says His Heart Is In The City!

I hope everyone watched Greece Police Chief Baxter's interview with 13WHAM's Sean Carroll at 6PM tonight.

When asked point blank if Baxter would consider becoming the Rochester City Police Chief, he told Carroll: "Everyone knows my heart is in the City of Rochester ..."

Baxter also cited his 22 years of service to the City, before saying it "might be a bit premature" to leave Greece.

More importantly, he did NOT say "NO" to Sean Carroll's question about becoming RPD's new chief ;)

It's very interesting that our MIA Chief has become (suddenly?)  available for so many interviews in recent days, now that Auberger's reign is becoming a bad dream ... I guess that milk bottle thing works, after all.

Baxter has been found ... and he even speaks on camera!

I think the snip it's make it misleading.

"Everybody knows my heart is in the City of Rochester, I grew up in the City of Rochester literally and then policed there for 22 years,” replied Baxter. “But out in the Town of Greece I've been there four years, done a tremendous amount of work with a great support staff, support from the town itself and support from the cops, I think it's a little premature for me to even think about leaving the Town of Greece. I got work to do out there and I like what we're doing, I like where we've been, I definitely love the police department.”

To 8:01PM ~~ Your quote is misleading in that he did NOT say all of that on camera at 6PM. At that time, there was no online post to link the BLOG to.

It is SIGNIFICANT to note that:

1 - Alexander has only been in his new job 8 months. Why would he leave so soon?

2 - Baxter has been MIA much of the time since the infamous boxing match in fall 2012 (Copapolooza), but has SUDDENLY found his voice (and the mics) in the last few weeks.

3 - Auberger is out & Reilich is replacing lots of top staffers in Greece. Maybe Baxter is on his short list for replacement.

4 - Baxter had every opportunity to say he definitely would NOT take the RPD chief job, if it were offered. He did NOT say it! Why? I think he would love to be the city's top cop!

Either way, we will know next week .... and I find it MOST intriguing that Sean Carroll thought the question was worth asking and that Baxter didn't put the end to any conjecture about his level of interest ;)

Baxter is a politician. Always has been. He frequents the Republican black tie events. Both he and the Mrs are on friendly terms with Maggie. Baxter didn't spend 22 years at RPD because he is a do good Christian. Quite opposite. He has thrown more than a few friends under the bus along the way and continues to do so to this very day.

I did not see the newscast but read the quotes posted, and thought it sounded like he didn't want to be here. Once I read the full quote i understand what he's saying and didn't have my original thought, that's why I thought it was misleading.

I'm sure he would love to be the City Chief why wouldn't he, but I doubt he'd move into the city with 2 school aged kids. He didn't say no because you never know what can happen, never say never.

Baxter is civil service. Reilich can not replace him.

To 9:33PM ~~ I agree he is a skilled politician. I've said it quite a few times since he landed in Greece.

To 9:57PM ~~ There are ways to get people to leave ...

Does the city police chief have to live in the city? Obviously city police officers don't have to. And he could follow in Duffy's footsteps. Police chief, mayor, lt gov. Although he might not stall at lt gov like poor Duffy did. Then he could go on to gov and then who knows? Definitely more chance for political advancement in the city.
If she offers it to him we can wave bye-bye. Then he can deal with davy v instead of scats. Psst...he would have to become a democrat to get mayor in the city.

To 9:40PM ~~ Follow the link you gave and watch the video of the actual newscast to see how it was truncated.

To 5:21AM ~~ Oh the possibilities!!!

Pssst! Around here, they change flavor to run for ANY open seat! Like philosophies, loyalties are meaningless.

Three thoughts:
The newscast was edited to suit the media's agenda - it always is.
The City will pursue Baxter only if they can't get Cedric Alexander or another qualified black candidate. It is politically unwise for Lovely Warren to not find a minority candidate.
Cedric is an excellent candidate - I hope they make him an offer he can't refuse.

To 12:07PM ~~ Nothing like a little racially-based discrimination ... just to keep us guessing.

Alexander would take a 40,000 pay cut to come back. Things would have to be worse down there than here to swallow that. I do not believe there was an active certified civil service list for chief in Monroe County. If so, Baxter was a contract hiring and does not have civil service protection. Therefore he has a separate contract with the town which no doubt contains a fair termination clause, He could be terminated by a vote of the town board, Reilich lacks the authority to replace him. the board does.
This is probably why he's keeping his options open.

Should Baxter get that top spot, he would be reunited with that con woman Carly Wise Levick, who was actively involved in the Lovely Warren campaign.

The best way to describe the political influence exerted in the town of Greece is "The games the same, only the players change".

To 5:50PM ~~ So true, so sad ...

Greece Public safety Commissioner is coming 2014. Baxter is looking to get off the burning deck. The city is considering him for sort of position in the Cedric Alexander Administration.

Of course he said everything in the quote. That's why it's a quote silly.

Just because the reporter chose to air what they chose isn't Baxter's fault.

@8:50AM, there's no indication of the Public Safety Director position being created in Greece.

If you know it to be fact, then site your proof.

We're waiting.

To 9AM ~~ Just because the reporter chose to air what they chose isn't my fault either ... but then YOU already knew that, just like YOU know what words you chose to ignore ("all of that on camera at 6PM") in the first sentence which you quoted from! lol ;)

SCATS said...

To 9:04AM ~~ Proof of that "indication" would never be given until January 1, because politics come first in Greece NY.

How can we expect anything good from this liar and hypocrite when his heart is in the city?
Why doesn't he just resign if he feels this way?

To 10:03PM ~~ I'm only posting your comment because I feel it makes a certain point. Usually, I'm no fan of name-calling. In this case though, our chief has told us many times how great he wants GPD to be ... but how can he really work toward that goal when his "heart is in the city"?
