Town Board Ignores COMIDA Questions

Dear SCATS,

I was depressed to read a flyer from a republican running for a county position bragging about COMIDA tax breaks for items like the Mall and LA Fitness as this great way to create jobs in our area. It is also depressing to hear ‘nothing’ from democrats on this item.

Comida= County of Monroe *INDUSTRIAL* development association. Because of their incompetence in bringing industry to our area and in order to show they were doing ‘something’ they began giving tax and finance breaks for RETAIL which of course WE the taxpayers pay for. Just as bad is that local politicians do not have to have their name associated – COMIDA answers to no one.

When finding out about ‘comida breaks’ being approved for RENTAL property being built on English Rd. I went in front of the town board in August to suggest that any breaks effecting Greece taxpayers like this should be reviewed and approved by our town board – THEY – should be on record not just some committee elected by no one. That was Aug.20th – I have not heard one word from anyone at that meeting. I went to the democrat get together at town hall recently – no mention of comida and I can assure readers they have been made well aware of this issue??? Are political donations part of this? I have no idea but because no ‘names’ are part of the approval it sure makes one wonder.

I agree with Charlie's assessment. This isn't a tax break as much as a tax redistribution to the homeowners and others who don;t get these COMIDA breaks. As taxpayers, we should have the right to understand what the impact is on us, and have our elected representatives review the business case for these tax gifts. If we don't agree with the tax breaks, we can then vote out the representatives who OK'd them.

" are political donations a part of this?" Of course they are. Greasing the right hands is the name of the game in this corrupt government in Monroe County.

So democrats and republicans didn't answer Chuck's questions.

Wow, Chuck and his crusade must not matter to pretty much anyone.

To 7:23PM ~~ Could you be any more sarcastic? The post is less than a day old. Give it some time. Besides, it's you & me that will pay for this frivolity with tax breaks.

I believe the democrats are concerned with COMIDA They have raised the issue in the county leg many times. IDA's in general have been criticized by the AG in addition to the recent investigations of wrongdoing. Local (greece) dems seem to have been so caught up in the issues regarding accessibility and openeness of town govt. to focus on it. They should have linked COMIDA with openness I think because most of these decisions are made behind closed doors without public input.

A response/post like that offered by 7:23 is a perfect example of what is wrong with our community. Someone steps up on behalf of all taxpayers, or at the very least himself, to question what seems to be an obvious abuse of power, and 7:23 takes the time to offer only snide remarks. Thank God for the anonymity of the internet, right 7:23? Without it, your opinions (no matter how dim) would be heard by nobody.

If Hubbard's post is posted for a month, what do you anticipate the positive result will be? Does anyone really believed that their concerns are going to impact the COMIDA process? The D&C has been conducting a crusade against this corrupt method by county officials to reward their supporters by way of tax breaks. Guess what, hasn't changed a thing..

To 10:28AM ~~ I know you won't believe it, but many small changes and a few bigger ones have happened just because issues were posted on this BLOG. The media reads ;)

To 8:54AM ~~ You are correct. Greece leaders are ALL ABOUT "divide & conquer." That's why we have school choice & other nonsense.

Your wrong, I would believe it if you could identify changes made by officials as a result of postings on this blog site. Could you please give me some examples of changes brought about by postings on this site, I mean tangible readily identified situations that would not have happened if not posted here that are based on provable fact and not probabilities, ,suppositions and assumptions.

To 2:07PM ~~ You claim I'm wrong without showing any evidence that I am, then challenge me to jump through a bunch of different hoops you dreamed up to get you to "believe" what I've already stated. Why would I/should I bother?

COMIDA doles out a form of welfare... "Republican style." It's the Republican way using political power to give out "free stuff" and buy favors. A totally corrupt system that screws the taxpayer.

Democrats buys votes by giving out "free stuff" with social welfare programs. Republicans buy corporate political donations by giving out "free stuff."

AND... just like Democratic social welfare programs, Republican corporate welfare creates zombie dependency on the system. Have you noticed that NOTHING gets build in Monroe Co. anymore without some sort of COMIDA tax break or govt. subsidized loan !?!?

Sigh... there is no such thing as free-market capitalism anymore. We are surrounded my zombies. How can you tell who the zombies are? Ask this question... could this person do their job, run their business, collect their salary, etc. if their was no government?

Zombies are everywhere... Republicans and Democrats... and they are coming to get us SCATS!!! Ahhhhh!

hey Charlie, you want proof of political favoritism by COMIDA, take a trip up on the Ridge and surrounding areas where new businesses are located or being built. If you do, you will see an over abundance or Reilich and other Republican campaign signs illegal of course, dotting the land scape in front of their properties. All that's missing is a big thank you sign imbedded along a fist with finger raised directed at us poor idiots who actually pay these guys to rob us.
