Greece Assessor Relies On Craigslist

Craigslist Ad Scams Homeowner Twice;
Assessor's Office: Guilty Until Proven Innocent

"The listing for Riess's house was posted on his realtor's webpage. The scam artist took the same picture and the same description of the house and put it on Craiglist as a $1,100 rental. A total fraud, but it's what the town used to say Riess didn't live at his home and the consequences would have been tens of thousands of dollars. By removing the exemptions, it doubled the amount he would have to pay taxes on from $65,000 to $119,000. Riess says no one came to his door. No one called him. They just sent the letter." You have got to be freakin kidding me! So we pay this assessor how much? And he sits on his ass and surfs Craigs List on our dime? I hope this homeowner sues the pants off the town and the ASSessor needs to fired.

To 5:59AM ~~ Too bad GPD doesn't surf CL. Then Greece might actually catch some of these teen gangs that break-in, vandalize & assault the law-abiding residents.

To 6:26AM ~~ My reaction, exactly!

I'm sorry this happened to this gentleman but it looks like it was cleared up before anything serious actually happened.

I for one am glad the town checks up on these things.

Too many people scam the system and it costs everyone else more.

Good work Greece. Keep following up on leads like this.

To 9:56AM ~~ While I have no issue with CL being used as a tool, I do have a huge issue with info like this being used as the basis for such actions like those that Greece took. CL is UNRELIABLE and a place frequented by all sorts of scammers & crooks.
