Beebe Hosting Town Hall Forum

Residents will voice concerns about lack of open government in Greece.

Dick Beebe and his running mates want to hear from residents about their experiences with town government in Greece. The forum, which is open to everybody, will be held at Greece Town Hall, Meeting Room A & B, on Wednesday October 23rd at 3:00 PM.

“The people of Greece deserve to be heard, and we are providing an opportunity,” said Dick Beebe. “Bill Reilich and the Republican slate of incumbents have been giving lip service to the concept of interacting with the people of Greece. We are not aware of a single public meeting that’s ever been scheduled by sitting Republicans to hear concerns. Not once, not ever. We want people to air their concerns and interact with us. We will continue such meetings after we are elected.”

Dick Beebe and his running mates offered their Proposal for Open Government in September. The ten point proposal calls for Q&A sessions prior to Town Board meetings, open forums throughout the year, and establishing an Office of Public Integrity, among other ideas.

This election year, Greece Republicans are refusing to appear at events if questions can be asked of them in public. On October 9th Republicans declined to attend the Dewey Corridor Neighbors forum, citing the Q&A format as the primary reason. Republicans also refused to attend an event proposed by Greece Baptist Church, which would have been moderated by the League of Women Voters. They did accept an invitation to appear at the Holy Name Parish on October 20th, once the format was changed to “no questions.”

“Bill Reilich and his slate of incumbents have refused to take part in any events at which the public can air concerns and get answers in public,” said Dick Beebe. “The people of Greece deserve to be heard. We will be there on Wednesday to listen and interact with everybody who attends.”

Meeting rooms at Greece Town Hall are available free of charge to all local residents. Greece Democrats reserved the space at Town Hall for this event in mid-September.

Another strategic mistake by the Dems, simply too much room for the meetng A phone booth would have been more effect politically.
In planning for this event, they did not consider the public apathy that paralyses this town especially the democrats. It would have been much better to reserve just one room and hope to fill that one. Nothing plays worse than a large capacity room that is half full or half empty depending on your point of view. Two rooms is over kill especially if only a hand full of people excluding committee members and republican spies, turn out.
If by some miracle , an overflow crowd turns out and they're standing in hallways, this would be a public relations boon as the headlines would readOVERFLOW CROWD TURNS OUT FOR DEMOCRATS TOWN HALL MEETING. Much better press, much better impact overall.

It would be nice if the Democrats held this forum in the evening. I would like to come but I have to work during the day.

I think this is a great idea! I can bet you there will be more than a few republican "moles" there so they can report back to Reilich and Uncle Auggie

To 5:34PM ~~ Like you, I do not understand the timing issue at all! Maybe they think everyone runs on GCSD time.

Beebe is starting to sound desperate. That's not a good thing in this peyton place of Greece.

Anonymous said...

My bet is the timing issue has everything to do with those in control of room scheduling.

SCATS

Re: Greece open government.

1. Consider letter to COMIDA dated Nov 19, 2008 (Yes, 2008 – 3+ years before public awareness of COMIDA/Greece Mall tax break).

2. Letter reads: “Dear Judy (Seil): On behalf of the Town of Greece, I offer support for the application to be presented to the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency at its meeting on Dec 16, 2008 for Greece Ridge LLC... Sincerely, John Auberger.”

3. Letter had no CC copies – not to Town Council members, or to staff – no copy to anyone.

4. No public discussion of TOG support for COMIDA action on the mall or any other COMIDA project.

I don't necessarily disagree about the timing being influenced by those in charge. Unless this was a short sighted last minute decision by the Dems, they should have said no thanks and gone somewhere else. I'm betting that it was just that. Another example of incompetent leadership thinking,
An event like this should have been scheduled well in advance to guarantee a good time slot. My group meets on a weekly basis in the evening at the town hall and I can tell you from my experience, all those rooms are well used by parties who schedule well in advance.
It would also appear that the Beebe folks have taken a page out out of Auburgers play book in which he schedules agenda setting meetings at the same time. The desired out come, the public fails to show. I'm afraid Beebe is going to experience the same result.

SCATS said...

To George Hubbard ~~ You've "DISCOVERED" the reason Auberger's govt was deemed "closed, clubby & corrupt" by the D&C editorial board when he last ran. There will be NO CHANGE with Relich in-charge.

To 9:51AM ~~ You are a regular Einstein! Not to mention that the PR piece ended with: "Greece Democrats reserved the space at Town Hall for this event in mid-September."

No one will show but Democrat plants, and Democrat committee people.

SCATS said...

To 11:52AM ~~ Democrat plants!? Why would they need to send "plants" to their own meeting??

BTW, I'm aware of a few people who plan to attend.

Anonymous said...

SCATS: Couldn't agree more! A few people will attend.

Anonymous said...

Plants? I do not mean wall flowers. Plant so they complain about everything and boost the turn out.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, I some how over looked that fact which now makes this time frame even more stupid if that is possible by the Garrettsons mob. There are plenty of church halls they could have used at a more excessible time, Seems to me they where determined to do this in Republican held territory no matter what. What a joke ! As if that would make any difference to their political out come and strategies in the long run what ever that May have been and will be in the coming weeks. End result; another humiliating defeat on November 5th.for their entire slate.
As to the sometime in September request even that tells me this was a last minute development seeing as we are only 23 days into October.

SCATS said...

To 12PM ~~ You were wrong;)

To 12:04PM ~~ I don't see any correlation between a "plant" and a resident complaining about the status quo under Auggie's closed, clubby and corrupt reign of scandals.

to 3:45PM ~~ People who call other people's behavior "stupid" really ought to be sure their own behavior is top notch. You mentioned "excessible time" when you meant "accessible time." Sadly, that wasn't your only grammatical faux pas, just your "stupidest."

Head count 33+/-... all talk about PROCESS, nothing on RESULTS.

Anonymous said...

Does all this Beebe promoting mean that you are voting for him? And you will publically announce that before election day????????

SCATS said...

To 9:12PM ~~ Would that REALLY matter to you personally?

SCATS said...

To 7:58PM ~~ I was told the head count was approximately 40.

Changing the process doesn't necessarily equate to a change in results. Under Auberger, I've heard more complaints about the closed process than about the outcome.

Anonymous said...

Can someone tell DICK Beebe he is not running against Auggie? I witnessed 25 people including the Democrat candidates. If being accessible means holding a meeting at 3pm, that is not the correct mesage. Hold it in the evening or on Saturday. Dave Garretson I am sure is walking around smug as usual. He is always so smug until 10pm on election night. Then the process begins all over again with re-runs and new wet behind the ear candidates that have no idea they are being lead to slaughter.

Well of course Reilich isn't going to let the public ask any questions of Republican candidates;
For the love of God he's got Antelli on the ticket with him. How could Reilich recover from Antelli calling a voter a STOOP?

Antelli barely shows up at his hairdressing emporium these days, he's busy practicing to collect taxes. The paycheck for that job will be more than Antelli ever made as a hairdresser.

Lord PLEASE tell me the Dems are running someone, anyone for Tax Collector.

7:58 The process is the product. This is a democracy not a benevolent aristocracy. Or at least it is supposed to be a democratic republic. At the very least we should be able to monitor in public the decision-making of government. That is guaranteed in the open meetings laws. No matter how efficient the outcome, any decision making that is done in private when it should be in public is undesirable and against the law . Of course this is not the type of law-breaking that gets someone in jail. It is not punishable under the penal code.
If the citizens just figure it isn't worth it to protest that cloaked government by speaking out or voting out the prevailing controlling party, then that's the way it stays. And the republicans know they will get away with it because no one challenges them in a way that gets results ,i.e. more open government in Greece. Even if they vote on matters in public, but debate the matters behind the scenes even one-on-one or via email or phone, that is flying in the face of the open meetings law, letter and spirit.
How else could they be doing the consideration of each proposition that comes before the Greece Town Board. There is never any discussion. There are no questions asked. They just look at each proposition and vote yes. At least we guess there is question and answer off the record between the meetings. We wouldn't even want to consider that there is a gentlemen's agreement to just vote "yes" on any question that comes before the board. That would mean the board just goes along with the party leadership. Let's at least suspect there is some discussion and debate that they are hiding behind the scenes. But that debate and discussion is unlawful.

WHATEVER! FYI I wasn't calling anyone stupid. It was the format that was I was referring to. No matter, the head count is not important. What is important to be effective is the presence of at least one media outlet willing to do a story about the hearing as well as it's content. Without that, it was a total waste of time politically speaking If that happened, and it this time I am not aware that it did, then there would be political capital attached and effective. Does anyone know if the media was there and a resulting report made regarding citizens concerns and complaints?

SCATS said...

To 11:47PM ~~ Since Relich won't openly engage with residents, there is no way to discern whether or not he is any different from Auggie. It would be a well-educated guess to say they are more alike than different ;)

To 3:01AM ~~ Kinda makes me wonder WHAT Antelli has on Relich that Relich puts up with Antelli ... hmmm!

To 6:54AM ~~ Sorry, but I do not believe the Town Board members are anything more than bobble-heads who support the Supervisor 100%. If they were, we'd have seen some evidence by now.

To 10:17AM ~~ Yesterday's forum was better than nothing and a 1000 times better than Relich has given us.

Scats I agree what Beebe did was better than nothing. The problem is, In order to fulfill his commitment , he still has to get in a position to deliver. You can have all the great ideas in the world to bring about necessary change to Greece but the trick is to get in a position to deliver. In other words, win an election. When you are fighting an up hill battle with a well organized enemy that does not need to reveal themselves in order to win, you need to force them out if their bunkers to get a shot at them. Use of the media by way of press conferences and events like yesterday day are a must. But and a big BUT, you have got to have the media attend to attack and expose them and get out your ideas to do do a better job. Without the media, you are simply throwing a party that nobody that can help get your agenda a public format and reach the eyes and ears of the voters attends.
Challengers have everything to gain from these forums. The parties in power have everything to loose by participating in forums that require them to defend their record in public. They don't have to, they won't and will win anyway. It's basic political rule #1.
Until the voters of this town reject that behavior by voting them out, they will continue this practice which has worked well for them over and over in the past history of this town.

SCATS said...

To 2:20PM ~~ So it really does NOT matter what Beebe does because, as you said: "Until the voters of this town reject that behavior by voting them out...."

And we all know that won't happen now when it didn't happen to Auggie when he was scandal-burdened.

Let's just roll over and play dead.

Anonymous said...

Your missing the point entirely so enough said. Roll over and play dead. Unfortunately that's what most people in this town have even doing for years,
You mention the previous scandal ridden election that the Democrats lost and Auburger won by 400 votes. Let's look at that for a moment.
Democrats had their best chance in town history to win control of the town. But the BLEEEWW IT, So how did they do it.
First when the party leader abandoned the slate to run her own campaign , Maloney fired his campaign manager and turned his campaign over to Downtown and The Morrelle loosers who ill advised him like calling a press conference on SUNDAY. No one from the media showed for obvious reasons. IT WAS SUNDAY. No way they call in a mobile crew for something like that.
However, the big reason they lost was their failure to get out the democratic vote on Election Day. Only 8% of eligible democrats in Greece showed up at the polls. You don't win elections with that kind of turn out.
Depending on your point of view, who actually rolled over and played dead,.Was it the leaders and committee faithful who failed to get voters to the polls or the voters themselves. Take your pick. In my mind it was a combination if both. Unfortunately, history will repeat it self again this year as I see it.

SCATS: Why do you need a forum to talk with an elected official? Stop in or make an appointment and sit across the desk and ask your questions. I have done that with Reilich and Robach more than once. Does everyone need a forum that 25-40 people out of 97,500 show up at? The Dems keep saying "they did this" who is they? Auggie ain't running!

SCATS said...

To 7:14PM ~~ The need for a forum is simple enough: To let the residents know WHAT (if anything) you stand for!

Obviously, the Greece Republicans fear going on the record with any position on anything. Open govt isn't about a one-on-one meeting with a politician!!

Maybe Auggie ain't running but his brother-in-hiding is ;)

Anonymous said...

SCATS: To let the people know what you stand for? A 11 year voting record works! mailers to get the position out helps. Lets face it 9 election wins I think the people know one candidate well. The other guy needs to do this, people do not know what he thinks since he has 3 election losses.

What Antelli has on Reilich; Well back when Reilich's boy wiped out a woman's car on Ridgeway one morning driving a Town truck, DRUNK, it was Antelli along with Rahn who moved heaven & earth trying to make it publicly known even though Rahn had been ordered to pull out all the stops and get a rug over the mess.
Reilich himself had to kiss Democrat A$$ to get records lost at a City run operation, and records got lost. Funny how a computer & backup drive will have an unexplained & unreported glitch like that, ain't it.

Antelli publicly threatened to Primary Auberger last time out for Supervisor. Antelli was basicly told either take the Leg seat, keep your wife's sweet job in the Clerk's Office which pays the BENEFITS for the Antelli family, and keep out of the race, or loose everything. Antelli sat down and shut up.

This time around Antelli was making a lot of noise about running for Supervisor, and being willing to Primary Reilich if necessary. Antelli was talked to, given the Tax Collector slot, AND a JOB for his boy at the Transit Authority, another job just like his wife holds.

Reilich & Antelli spent the Summer of 2013 at Reilich's new car collecting barn playing together and discussing deals. Reilich is convinced it's safer & cheaper to keep Antelli where he can see him than it is to have Antelli's mouth running.

Antelli's favorite name for voters is STOOP, and he hates Nam Vets. Antelli is in possession of too much information for Reilich to feel safe if he can't manage Antelli. Remember, Antelli has been around Greece Republican Politics for 30 years, and he knows what's hidden where. It's cheaper to keep him on the taxpayer's dime than it is to have him opening his mouth. Antelli even knows about the checkbook in the Supervisor's desk drawer, and that the TownHall phone system keeps records of calls. If he doesn't get paid off his mouth might open.

Antelli can also be counted on to play dirty if and when the need arises as he has in the past. He sure forgot his friends during the Assessor fiasco. Then again, Antelli really doesn't have friends, he just knows people he can USE.

Antelli is DANGEROUS!

To 9:03PM ~~ Now, now! Relich explained sometime ago that he first heard about that little accident on Ridgeway after it appeared "on a BLOG." Then he went on to tell us how family business is personal and private, just before he told us about his kid's personal addiction problem ;)

SCATS said...

To 9PM ~~ Face reality, please! The real reason Relich & Co. won't address questions is that they don't want to be held accountable for anything they say. Said in public, it becomes an edict. Said in private, it becomes a "he said, she said" difference of opinion. Capisce?

So, when did Reilich start calling his Cellphone BLOG?

That WRECK was so HOT it should have had nuclear signs. You only think the Nick Joseph wreck was handled covertly.

Rahn was in Antelli's shop before the wrecked car and Town truck were off tow trucks.
The Town truck was hidden in a back corner of the DPW building, and then moved to an unknown location by tow truck that night.
Antelli was calling his munchkins from DPW for pictures and information, and none could deliver.

Reilich better hope Antelli don't come to Town Hall, because Antelli will knife Reilich in the back.

Reilich still ows Monroe County Democrats BIG for that coverup. When the bill comes, he will pay it andGreece taxpayers will cover the cost.

To 11:19PM ~~ There are plenty of remarks from BOTH sides. It's HOW they are stated that determines whether they will see the light of day. Honestly, after all of these years, the Reps. still have trouble understanding the difference between name-calling and identifying bad behavior.
