What Happened To Copapalooza?

Following last year's much touted boxing match-up between RPD's Lt. Scott Peters & Greece PD's Chief Todd Baxter, neither the event itself, nor Peters have been heard about in the press since.

Now the Badge of Honor Assn. plans a different event in October. Why?

A sourse in the RPD tells me that the boxing event was scratched because they couldn't find anyone willing to take on Baxter after he demolished Peters last year. In addition,
Baxter recently announced his retirement from the ring.

To 6:17AM ~~ Exactly how badly was Peters injured anyway??

No big secret here. The Badge of Honor's Policeman's Ball was held in May rather than in February. Thus, not enough manpower to plan for the Copapalooza event held every August.

And it was Baxter's wife who made him retire from his boxing career.

Badly enough so that we haven't heard from him as one of the spokesmen of the RPD. Right before copapalooza Aug of 2012 he was quoted as a spokesman about someone being shot. Right after that there is no evidence in the D and C or any search online that shows him being quoted. He is off the radar. He has a twitter account.
The movie "The Quiet Man" was about a retired boxer that badly injured another boxer. He didn't want to fight. Eventually he did give in to protect the honor of Maureen O'Hara. Maybe if they do a remake they will ask Todd to play the part that was played by John Wayne.

To 12:58PM ~~ Could you provide an excuse that was any more lame?? Doubtful ;)

To 1:57PM ~~ I've seen the Twitter account many times. He seldom mentions anything about police work, nothing about himself. I wonder how disabled he became ...

It's an election year. He is a thorn in Auberger s side. He can be removed of his position prior to election day. Baxter is far from stupid. He is playing politics. How do you think he survived so long at RPD? He also gets a kick out of all the gossip you write about him. Hearsay hearsay. He will have the last laugh.

Anonymous said...

To 12:58 Since you know so much inside info.....what about Scott Peters? You seem to evade that question while you are so eager to protect Todd by bringing up that malarkey about his wife. Is she that concerned over Scott peters that she made her husband quit boxing? He is all about physical fitness. His job as a policeman should be more dangerous than boxing in a ring with rules and officials. Why would she be sop adamant about him retiring from his short career in the ring? So dish....where is Scott Peters and why has he been so mum? Did his wife make him stop talking?

To 8:56PM (#1) ~~ Re: "He will have the last laugh." I'm not so sure. I heard he thought the milk carton with his pic on it labeled as "MISSING" was most amusing ;)

To 8:56PM (#2)~~ Good point about his wife. Now I'm wondering if Mary is actually running GPD ...

Here is a quote from Macbeth spoken by his lady as she nags him into doing her bidding: "Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be What thou art promised: yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' the milk of human kindness To catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great; Art not without ambition, but without The illness should attend it."
We know his tragic flaw (besides listening to his wife's very bad advice)was that he assumed he was invincible and found out that the witches were sneaky in the wording of their prophecies. Are all these movers and shakers of our locale so whipped?

Why not stop by Rocky s for lunch and ask them directly? Scott Peters is alive and well as is Todd Baxter. As for his wife, she didn't want him in the boxing ring at all. The boxing thing was a pr stunt for the badge of honor. They don't do it every year contrary to what you think. It's always been every other year or even two. The event is a fundraiser which you hate so why are you writing about it?

SCATS said...

To 3:12AM ~~ Next time, PLEASE warn us we'll be needing another cup of coffee before posting Shakespeare quotes! (Just kidding)

To 9:18AM ~~ Well, Joe, we already know he's "alive" from his Twitter account. It's the "well" part we're questioning since he never mentions actually working and suddenly disappeared from spokesperson status following the takedown last August ;)

Your suggestion we go to Rocky's is akin to telling people to stalk a cop. I don't suggest it.

8:56 You are tight about one thing. This is an election year.
The rest is not factual and is speculation on your part. Aubuger is done in December. He does not have the authority to terminate Baxter. Baxter is a Civil Service Chief of Police that was hired by the town board off a certified civil service list. As such, you obviously have no idea how hard it is to fire a Chief of Police in this state. Certain criteria is required to even file charges with Civil service authorities by the hiring authority , the town board. As for politics, when you work for politicians you can not opt out of the game. Because he is chief, he can not be a union member. Therefore, he has a separate contract with the town board that sets his compensation package as well as his duties as Police Chief in Greece. One can easily see why playing the game is necessary.

Maybe the boxing stunt was just every so often, but Copapalooza was annual for 6 years. Why didn't it happen this year? below is a long address link where they say last year was the 6th annual Copapalooza. It sounds like BOHA still exists but they are distancing themselves from the corporate entity Copapalooza. We can only wonder why. Maybe that injury made them gun shy about future forays into putting our first responders in unnecessary danger. And didn't SCATS bring that up before the bout? Like was he on duty? What if he got injured? Would that be workmen's comp? Little did we know that our rep would injure another force's employee. Are we responsible for that? Will he sue? He still has 2 more years to file.

To 10:03AM ~~ You forget, Greece already terminated a police chief (Rahn). Getting rid of him wasn't so hard for Auggie as you claim LMAO

To 10:18AM ~~ Yup, 6 fun years of annual spectacles! This year they are holding "Licks & Chicks" (link below) as their fundraiser in October instead. Seems they decided the other type of event was just too dangerous :)

No I did not forget the Rahn situation. His situation as well as the Brian Ball firing were not the norm.Rahn fired himself during the Joseph,Pignato scandals.Rahn waived his right to an article 75 Civil Service Heariing, plead guilty, mwent to Jail and got fired Ball also waived his right to a hearing, took
$95,000 iN GO AWAYmoney and was also terminated.
Might I suggest that you research Article 75 of the NYS civil service law and you will see how difficult it really is to fire a civil service employee. The town must meet the criteria necessary to even file charges. Once done, the employee can opt for a closed or public hearing on the charges.
This proceedure mirrors the criteria required in a section 3020a to fire a tenured teacher. I ther e by stand by my original position which was IT AIN'T THAT EASY!!!

SCATS said...

To 3:59PM ~~ Of course they were not the norm. Firing a cop is never the norm. However, LOTS of cops were fired in Greece, Rahn was the most recent chief, not the only chief. Then there was Mackin ...

Anonymous said...

I hereby challenge you
To name one Greece Police Chief that was fired in the history of the Greece PD besides Rahn.
Please don't mention the chief he replaced as that Chief Retired and enjoying the fruits of his pension every month.
Mackin retired so what's your point in his regard to his deputy chief position?.
He too is getting a monthly check from the state. Please enlighten all of us to the identity of former Fired Chief in Greece.

Simple answer is not enough of a turnout. Summer time was hard most people's weekends were booked. Boxing only had a few bouts get filled and softball numbers kept dropping. Even Baxter and Peters fight didn't get the turnout Fall is easier and everyone can play kickball which is growing fast in this area. Not sure why they change name. Not a big deal though. It just makes sense especially if you are trying to raise money. You can always contact BOHA directly and ask if its a big deal to you.

Anonymous said...

Let's not forget the on going FBI probe. Perhaps Auberger will be escorted away in handcuffs on his last day in office. And Bob Duffy had no problem firing David Moore. The civil service poster sounds like a Town Board member in disguise. A board that is as corrupt as the supervisor. If Beebe wins, Ray DiRaddo will have to get another part time job. His law practice is struggling and there wad once four partners. Now he is the only one.

SCATS said...

To 7:28PM ~~ And fall is less hard on people's weekends?? lmao! It never ceases to amaze me the crapple people will write to protect the Greasey Police.

To 7:48PM ~~ Maybe DiRaddo will have to flip back to being the Democrat he used to be.

Anonymous said...

Scats you are forgetting one important thing regarding Rahn deal . It cost you and the rest of us the grand total of 1 million extra large to make the case against Rahn as well as coving his wrinkled A--. So don't say it was easy.

SCATS said...

To 6:20AM ~~ I'd say the $1 million was largely spent to cover Auggie's wrinkled arse and to insure that a number of people would NEVER let the skeletons out of his closet at Town Hall.

Anonymous said...

7:48 David Moore was hired from the OUTSIDE by the mayor and city council. Therefore, he had no civil service certification. Just a contract and served at the pleasure of the mayor and that body. They could punch his ticket at anytime by canceling his contract.
Dick Beebe will be crushed in November. As for DiRaddo, even if Reilich wins, I'm not so sure he would survive, There are a lot of starving dogs( Lawyers) lined up for his job wth better connections to Reilich.

7:29...They changed the name because they wanted to distance themselves from the events of Copapalooza 2012. Legally. Maybe we could ask public information officer Justin Collins of the RPD who is also the director of the corporation Badge of Honor Assn. Incorporated in 2008 and amended in 2011. So did Copapalooza start in 2007? Did they form the Corp in 2008 to protect the "not for profit" profits of the annual event. If it is a duck and we call it something else it still quacks. They are responsible for the injury of Scott. And even if he is having coffee at the restaurant that was cited , it still doesn't explain why he is no longer the spokesperson for the RPD. It was a sudden and obviously permanent change in their SOP. Maybe his injury kept him off the street. Is it a TBI? So much publicity before the event and nothing after. Could embarrassment cause this? Let's go on all the talk shows chuckling about this with Clark Kent as a beginning boxer. Then crickets.

YES fall weekends are much easier!!! Most people have their summer weekends booked way in advance with weddings, graduations, vacations and summer party's. pretty common knowledge for anyone with any kind of social life. I do not know why they changed the name but changing the date to the fall is a no brainer. And once again not sure why it's a big deal. I totally agree boxing was a bad idea from day one! Injuries and just plain boring. Even if they realized they screwed up and changed it thats a good thing not a scandal.

SCATS said...

To 11:25AM ~~ "Not a scandal"?? Ha!! The comments about WHY the change was made are ALL OVER THE MAP!! Obviously, the cops are closely following this repartee. With so many differing reasons given for the change, my gut says smoke and mirrors are in full use here ;)

Anonymous said...

How are they responsible for his injuries? He signed up himself and was not forced to do so. Also Justin is no longer the RPD spokesperson and peters never was. Steve Scott was. Get your facts straight.

SCATS said...

To 12:11PM ~~ It is a FACT that Peters was identified as the spokesperson for RPD in a number of stories. I've seen it when I Googled his name in the past :)

Responsibility/liability goes to anything that happens on someone's watch, in this case BOHA's.

Anonymous said...

12:11 There are at least 20 reports that are easily found on google from stories in the paper and the tv that quote Scott Peters of the Rochester Police Dept. It does not say he was the "information officer" and neither did I. It just quotes him about the crimes. It's interesting that someone is trying to misdirect our focus here with semantics. Makes me wonder why all these knowledgeable contributors have no info on why Copapalooza is no more and Scott Peters stopped being quoted in the media after the boxing match. Sure he is quoted as the "do the right thing" rep but not about crime. Change of duty? He is now the aide to the assistant chief. Also Justin Collins is named as the "public information officer" on many documents online that are media releases for the last year. Maybe there is more than one but his name is used by the chief with a phone number. Look it up. And you are misdirecting about that too. I just said he might know the answer to many of these questions since he is a director named on the corporation papers for Badge of Honor Association. You people are really working overtime to get these questions disregarded. Wonder why.

Anonymous said...

12:58 What in hell makes you think Scott Peters owes you an explaination? It's his business and no one else's so bud out. As far as the Badge of Honor event goes here again it is the business of the organizers as to when they do or do not hold their fundraiser. They certainly are not accountable to anyone on this blog . That s assuming they even are aware of this blog.,some thing i seriously doubt. Even if they did, I don't see these guys shaking in their boots about the chatter on this blog.

SCATS said...

To 2:05PM ~~ They certainly are working OT on this, BUT so far no one has disputed that Baxter clocked Peters really good in the ring last August. Maybe a concussion turned into much more. If they want the speculation to stop, someone will dish the dirt sooner or later,. It always happens in time ;)

SCATS said...

To 2:08PM ~~ No one said he owes us anything, BUT correcting the record is an option he can choose. Someone's aware of this BLOG. Every time I post about cops, the counter spins wildly.

So this was an event that had happened for 6 years, was growing each year according to Sam Lucyshen in this interview,"build the brotherhood" "tremendous success", 2nd year for the boxing.....what happened? Warning, lots of giggling in this interview with the main event contenders.

Our cop can whip your cops ass.

Don't be coming to Greece acting all badass. Don't make up have Phelon go all bad on your cops.

Greece cops are so tough they can and do go to lunch in the City!

Anonymous said...

Um, folks,

What makes anyone think Peters was hurt (beyond normal wear and tear)? I looked back at the original SCATS posting but found no source for any speculation.

That a cop isn't quoted in the news anymore isn't unusual. Probably went from street duty to investigations (a promotion) or some other move to a position where he is no longer dealing with stories in the news.

Most cops are never quoted in the news. The ones that are, are dealing with direct response to situations (accidents, burglaries etc) where the event itself draws media attention.

SCATS said...

To 6:58AM ~~ I was told he was injured almost as soon as it started & the fight was stopped. I don't know which thread, but there were some who wrote in to say essentially the same thing. The fact that the fight was super-hyped up to the start and then never heard about in the press again was MOST telling ;)

Anonymous said...

Mary Mary quite Contrary here. My husband the chief is not injured in anyway. He may be if he decides to pull this shenanigan again in the future.

SCATS said...

To 4:08PM ~~ We never thought Todd was injured. It was Scott Peters who "disappeared."

Thanks for letting us know who wears the pants at home.
