I just wish all of our schools could figure out what it is that Pine Brook and Odyssey are doing that works so well, and then implement it. It must different lesson plans, right? Everything else about the school/students is pretty much the same, isn't it? Otherwise one could draw the conclusion that not all of our (public school) district's kids are getting the same educational opportunities.

To 4:16PM ~~ To do that, we'd have to send the kids who are stealing services back to the city where they belong!

BTW, not all of Greece kids do get the same opportunities. It's been that way for decades. Worse yet, Babs figured out they weren't even getting the same amount of time on instruction.

4:16, you would think that it would be that easy, right? So, what is really happening at those schools that is totally different? The difference lies in that most of the students in those two schools have been chosen to go there and therefore the attitude is completely different from every aspect, I.e. family participation and commitment. It does help that the parents are involved, making it easier for the teachers to concentrate on educating rather than worrying about discipline. Go to Olympia and see what kind of parents, not all but some, have very little involvement. I know scats will disagree but this is the truth. Charters and private work for that simple variable that they have in common. Everything else being equal, the schools where parents are involved in their child's education have a greater success rate. Look at the suburbs that are successful and the emphasis is mostly from parental involvement. One of the biggest indicators of parental involvement in GCSD is seen when there is a budget vote or parent-teacher conferences. Each have dismal attendance . That is a fact! Scats, you are right that not all kids get the same opportunities or programs. Someone should look into that, there lies the smoking gun!

To 8:38PM ~~ In SOME districts where parent involvement is truthfully appreciated, it can make a difference. That simply isn't the case for the most part in Greece. They do NOT want parents in the bldgs beyond 5th grade, except to make Open House look good. Conferences became meaningless once they went to the gang bang groups where no privacy could be had. Why isn't student performance as important to keep private as employee performance? Because Greece students are treated like second class citizens, that's why. There is NO respect!
