Greece BOE Kills Transparency

At the Tuesday night BOE meeting, Julia added approval of the GUSS contract for 2013-17 to the agenda. That's a big addition and likely carries a big price tag with it.

Bab's contract amendment through 2017 was also up for adoption and already listed on the proposed agenda.

After starting the meeting late once again (it's part of their ingrained rude ritual), we were entertained by about an hour of meaningless fluff & feel good crapple better left to the individual schools to handle.

When the meat of the meeting was finally up for review, a presentation about Customer Service was all that we got to hear related to the business of the district. Following that, a motion was made to go to Executive Session for personnel & contractual issues.

I listened to the radio in the background for the next 2.5 hours. There was NO RETURN to the BOE meeting! By design, we were left in the dark about Bab's contract and about the GUSS contract, as well as all other items on the agenda.

Congratulations Julia VanOrman!
You've single-handedly destroyed all semblance of transparency in the Greece Central School District.
And your eight foolish followers on the BOE allowed you to do so.

Thank you Scats - I also listened as the approval of the agenda included the addition of a new contract which historicly indicates little to no meaningfull discussion had taken place AND little to no knowledge of a contract costs. I thought there was something wrong with the radio station.
Thanks again.

it would not be the first time the board has censored info for public broadcast

To 10:25AM ~~ It would not be the first time JULIA has censored info for public broadcast, either ;)

The meeting opened and ended a 12:30 a.m. Perhaps one of your Face Book friends will tell you the results of voted-on issues.

To 12:08AM ~~ They did not open the meeting at 12:30AM. It was already opened around 6:50PM when they began the warm fuzzy feeling crapple. Did they complete their agenda?

They came back around 10:45, banged out the rest of the agenda, then went BACK into executive session at 11:00ish... It did come back on the radio..after 3 hours in exec session...

To 4:24PM ~~ So then, did they vote on the GUSS contract? How about Bab's contractual amendment? If so, was the outcome & details?

Sorry, I meant to say REOPENED!!! Seeing that this was the last scheduled meeting this year, I would conclude they did. If not, a special meeting would take place by June 30th to take up unfinished business.

You are not correct, the meeting was officially opened long before that. In order to enter into executive session, the board can only go into executive session after the meeting is officially called to order or, as in this case, any time thereafter as deemed necessary due to the nature of the agenda item brought to the floor.

Sad when the school board meeting last longer than a school day. Hope it was because there actually WAS some discussion around the Supt and how they could actually extend the contract. Maybe it was full of stall and delay so they could come back and not have to answer any questions to the public. Oh well, we can only hope...

To 5:48PM ~~ OK TY, understood.

To 7:21PM ~~ I am correct. I did not say they opened the meeting at 6:50PM. I said it was already opened then. There's a difference.

To 7:35PM ~~ Sadder yet when the meaningless portion of the BOE meeting is all that normal people get to hear!

Sorry Scats but there is a big difference between "around" 6:50 PM and about 5:30 PM when the meeting actually started. So unless your definition of "around" encompasses a very broad time differential, technically you were well off the mark. But that's OK because it really doesn't matter in the overall as it was an understandably over looked detail that you missed this time.

To 7:14PM ~~ Every month I post about upcoming meetings & agenda items. Almost every meeting (when they plan it), I post about the BOE's pre-planned Exec. Session, just as I did this one. Of course I was WELL AWARE they started at 5:30PM because I POSTED ABOUT IT ON THE BLOG!Take a look!

For the record, I didn't use the word "around" ... YOU did. I stated: " I am correct. I did not say they opened the meeting at 6:50PM. I said it was already opened then. There's a difference."

I stand by my statement. Don't bother apologizing ... I know you don't have it in you ;)
