GCSD Anti-Bullying Efforts: FAIL!!

One year ago today, GCSD employee Karen "Keep-the-Money-Coming" Klein got her 15 minutes of fame as a video taken on a Greece school bus went viral. It sent both Babs & Julia underground, out-of-reach of media cameras and questions while underlings were left to deal with the fuss.

Lots of time and energy were invested in a "new" anti-bullying program for the district. From all accounts by district parents over this past year, little has changed except Klein has spent her fortune.

Along with her daughter, Amanda Klein Romig, Karen now fronts what appears to be a phony foundation which refused to show both its support for another bullied Greece student, as well as reveal its financial records (as not-for-profits are supposed to provide) when requested by blogger DavyV.

This past week, Karen told 13WHAM news: "The Foundation is using some of the money raised for Klein to promote books for children." So, I guess "literacy" is her latest cause ... not anti-bullying.

What a joke.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of the Klien issue. But the fact still remains that bullying is still occurring in the schools and on the buses. Once reported it seems to vanish into a GCSD black hole!!

To 11:37PM ~~ Sadly, you are correct. In fact, almost any problem reported to GCSD vanishes into the black hole.

I wouldn't give that guy the time of day. Besides, he is not entitled to get that information unless Karen agrees to give it to him. I have no idea how she set up her foundation. If she did it properly, she would have applied for a 501c3 not for profit charitable Tax exempt corporation. If she was granted that standing, monies raised thru donation or events to benefit
the foundation, would be Federal Tax Exempt. As such, the foundation would not be required to report those assets to the IRS. However, if she applied for a State Tax exemption, she would be required to report these assets to the State Department of Taxation in a manner prescribed by law. Absent that determination, she need not disclose the amount of the total assets of the foundation so long as such assets are used in the manner in which the foundation
by-laws stipulate and were contained in her initial application for 501c3 designation. Given those facts, the foundation is under no obligation to provide that info to private citizens such as Davy V or anyone else in that category. Simply put, IT'S NONE OF HIS BUSINESS!

I currently operate two such 501c3 Corporations and only my board of directors have access to that information. My Foundation Web site contains a complete
explanation of the goals and objectives of each one and how the funds are dispersed. Perhaps Karen has such a site.

To 4:11PM ~~ You said it all : IF she set it up properly. That's doubtful. Also certain discosures are required under the law, such as: "Public access must be provided promptly on request by allowing inspection of the documents at the organization's office or offices, and by providing copies of the documents promptly in response to any in-person request or within 30 days for a written request."

You can read up here:

To 3:56AM ~~ My, my ... doesn't that just pull at your heart strings? She "brings awareness to cyberbullying" ... whatever that is supposed to mean.

This section applies only to application forms or other documents required to make formal application. My application document that would fall under this section would be a copy of my bylaws, goals and objectives, how assets are to be expended along with a copy of the officers of my corporation. I fail to see anything related to disclosure of current assets unless such copy was requested by the proper authority and returned by the organization. Then that document would be covered under this regulation as a public document.

It would appear to me that perhaps Klein was advised or smart enough not to file for 501c3 exemptions. No public documents would exist. Regardless as to how this windfall happened to Karen, I would remind you that at no time did she request donations. Donations were made to a fund set up by a private citizen and while the donated amount was over $700.000, these donations
were made without stipulation as to how the money should be used. Bottom line, it's her money and it's no one’s business as to how she chooses to spend it. It's really that simple. Look at it in this way. You hold a door open for an elderly person. This person is so touched by your act of kindness, that he gives you a dollar which you reluctantly accept. Now, that person walks away without telling what to spend that dollar on, so you are free to use it as you see fit. Right? It's no different in the case of Karen Klein.

To 10:10AM ~~ Re: " ...it's no one’s business as to how she chooses to spend it."

WRONG! When she CHOSE to tell the world she was going to fight bullying & set up a NON-PROFIT that she constantly talks about as doing something to "fight bullying" ... which it does NOT, then it becomes the PUBLIC'S BUSINESS because she made it public. It's that simple.

She couldn't even be bothered to "fight bullying" when it made new right here in her OWN TOWN! Scam artist.

Sorry Scats, there is absolutely no legal foundation to back up your claim. No matter what you say she said publicly or otherwise, without putting that claim into written form for public viewing, there are no documents that exist that could be obtained under sections of Not-For Profit information law that you spoke about earlier. Anyone can change their mind with their intentions. Besides, there
isn't enough money in the world to stop bullying as we have become a society of bullies both young and old. It's really THAT SIMPLE. Books would be a much
worthier and rewarding concept. You know what else is simple? She's got the money and you and the other envious posters on this blog do not.

To 3:40PM ~~ You've stretched so far, your rubber band should be broken by now. You assume so much on Klein's part. Would it surprise you to know she didn't waste a dime on legal advice? Or that her money was gone almost as soon as it was handed over, much of it used to bail out her kids? Or that when Max Sidorov asked for a loan, she wasn't sure she would honor the request?

By the way, I can assure you there is absolutely nothing Klein has that I would EVER "envy."
