Who Will You Support For BOE?

Do you plan to write-in someone? If so, who?

Let's see who wins this straight popularity poll over the next few days.

I'm thinking we should all write in Tyler Grimshaw.
It would be a beautiful thing to watch the Board relate up close & personal with one of their creations.

Perhaps we could write in a couple of Tyler's associates too.

Here is a novel idea.......DO NOT vote for ANY school board candidate and vote NO on the budget.

The school board and Super need to get the message that we are fed up with student achievement that is in the toilet and the never ending tax increases. I know I won't be voting for any of the candidates.

And what is the deal with the little post card I got in the mail Saturday? An "amended" property tax report card? We pay millions in Administrative salaries and no one can get it right the first time when it gets submitted to the State?????????

To 2:52AM ~~ He COULD win!!

To 6:09AM ~~ I really don't think I can stomach voting for any of the 4 "known" candidates, so I was thinking of doing exactly what you've suggested ;)

Grimshaw is old news... Jahar is where it's at. Check this out:

I'd excerpt a juicy quote from there, but this is a family blog...

To 12:23PM ~~ Good God! Obviously, public schools no longer require knowledge of current events, or the ability to think clearly.

I'm sorry, but the attitudes projected on this issue so far is one of the reasons good quality individuals won't run for the board. Who in his or her right mind would take this non-paying thankless job, consistently being berated and second-guessed by the "Experts" who post here? One would have to be a masochist at the very least to do so.

Gone are the days of up to nine in the running for three seats. The reasons are as I outline above. But in reality, the demise of CARE and the lack of interest
by the Greece CC is largely responsible as both sides competed with each other
for board control. Such is not the case since they raised and spent $15,000 to get Boily, Julia and one other elected to the board in '06. CARE was outspent and lost with additional help from the D&C who decided to interfere by endorsing in
a suburban school race, something they never did before nor since. Both factors resulted in a win for the Chamber and a crushing defeat for CARE and effectively
put an end to 20 effective years as the only taxpayer watch dog group in Greece. Since then, no other such organization has emerged and we have what we have. Low turnouts on budget votes and no interest in board candidates and most importantly, no controversy in firing up people and no media coverage
reflecting the controversy and eventual outcome. The result, total apathy and disconnect on the part of most stakeholders in this community. A prediction, this year's turnout will rival last years disgraceful showing of
interest.

To 3:35PM ~~ Your first sentence is most amusing considering that IF I were to attempt to take credit for even the smallest of things, you'd come back & attack this BLOG as being totally inconsequential! You can't have it both ways, 'cause I won't let you :)

As for CARE, that group's internal infighting and overall dysfunction added to the rapidity of their own demise! On top of that, everytime they got a group on the BOE, the group would dissolve amidst their own arguing. Look at HMO for a great example! At one point in time, none of them were on speaking terms with the others! Also, as a point of fact, Frank Oberg did an even bigger turncoat job during his final term than Bob Mueller did in '93!!

Having a couple of outsiders (those who "ran" CARE) controlling the insiders (those CARE got elected to the BOE) only builds resentment & breeds even more dysfunction.

I agree that the big $$ element Boily brought to the BOE election process was a nail in the coffin for any outside group hoping to get some control. However, again I'll point out that:

THE RECORD SHOWS PEOPLE STAYED AWAY FROM VOTING ON THE GCSD BUDGET EN MASSE AFTER FRANK OBERG IGNORED THE 2/3 "NO" VOTE FACTION DURING HIS LAST STINT ON THE BOE and forced us to eat a big tax increase!!!!

If the community couldn't trust Oberg to NOT do that, who could we ever trust???

The district buys off the BOE and ignores the students and residents. They just make up the rules as they go along. VOTE NO!

Anonymous said...

Pussy Cat. Let me be the first to congratulate you for helping Oberg win the write in battle. Why do I say this? To me it's very clear. Case in point.
Your crucifixion on the thread about this guy will help him more than hurt him. Even while your intent was crystal clear, it may well work against you. By giving him this exposure albeit negative, you have resurrected his name. Name recognition in the context of this situation is important. As you will probably agree, not everyone who visits or comments on this site is exactly a fan of your blog and its philosophy. SOOOO by resurrecting Oberg, you have inadvertently given them a reason to vote for him next week when it counts by casting what will amount to a vote against you. Oberg will not get my vote but not for the reasons you outline.

SCATS said...

To 7:18PM ~~ Actually, I thought about that idea & totally dismissed it before posting anything about him. In case you missed it, the Greece Post via George Hubbard resurrected his name by mailbox free to all Greece residents. Despite my best efforts, I don't have that kind of distribution, yet.

I seriously doubt that seeing his name will cause anyone to go out to vote who hadn't planned to anyway.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to vote for Oberg (for the reason 7:18) gave.

Anonymous said...

I will write in one of the ODY parents.

SCATS said...

To 7:51PM ~~ Before you pat yourself on the back, realize that out of 4 potential warm bodies, two have name recognition. Oberg is one.

I suspect this budget vote will be an even bigger sleeper than last year's. Personally, I can't think of a single reason to support any of the 4 running.

SCATS said...

To 10:11PM ~~ Anyone we'd know?

Anonymous said...

Oh my, totally overly defensive on your part. Must have struck a nerve as you
erupted in every conceivable direction to deflect the truth. By the way, I
remember you attended a few CARE meetings yourselves and walked in a huff once or twice. Since I know you won't post this you should know that your canary, CH, was the cause of the HMO rift when he joined the Boily gang less than 24 hrs after they were elected. The reason, Joe and Frank voted for a contract that gave the district support staff a $.50 cent an hour raise. He then was a huge supporter of the ACHROMOVITCH hiring. You speak of the turmoil in CARE, would it surprise you to know that once again CH was at the heart of the problem along with KACHMIESTER and would you believe, ANN MILLER. That’s right; she too joined forces with CH by jumping to the Boily camp. She turned out to be the biggest traitor of them all. I will never forgive them for destroying the organization over a $.50 cent raise and political hobnobbing.

If you desire change you don't repeat actions that failed already.

Give the BOE a couple recent products of their system, like Grimshaw, and let them live with them for a couple years.

They'll run for cover real fast!

SCATS said...

To 10:57AM ~~ Psst!! What "truth" did I deflect? It is a FACT that voter turnout sank to near total apathy after OBERG SOLD OUT THE COMMUNITY'S NO VOTE! Look at the numbers. That is the only "direction" discussed: his record and the results.

As for me & CARE, you are completely delusional. I've never been a member of that organization, I've never served on the board of that organization, I've never run for an office supported by them, I've never contributed to them, etc. I believe I attended a rather well-attended COMMUNITY CANDIDATE'S FORUM they sponsored at the West Ridge Community Center many years ago when Dollinger ran against Robach. I had no reason to "walk out in a huff."

Obviously, you don't know me at all. I posted your remarks, as off-base as they are.

Given that your idea of who you think I am is so far off the mark, I suspect your "recollections" about the others you ranted about and their supposed activities are similarly mistaken. I have no clue what you mean about a "$.50 cent raise" either.

By the way, it's ACHRAMOVITCH ;)

SCATS said...

To 12:19PM ~~ You are correct. However, Greece has a huge senior population. They resist change chage at nearly every level. That's how we end up stuck again with a scandal-ridden lame-duck Town Supervisor when most other community's would boot his derriere to the curb!

As for giving them Grimshaw types ... I'm not sure they would notice. The BOE Prez's own kid showed his true colors posted here from Twitter. The solution wasn't to take away his cell or privileges. It was to do what the scandal-ridden hockey team did to handle some of their bad PR: Just make the account entries private, then carry-on with business as usual.

Nope. Parent who routinely attends board meetings tho.

Anonymous said...

You just keep on thinking that. Next time you EMail the Canary, ask him to
explain the .50 cent walk away from his running mates.

SCATS you have no idea how willing seniors are to make a change. I am one and have a sense of the demographic.

Granted there is a percentage of the Senior group who would lose an IQ contest with a rock, but that percentage is small.

The largest portion of the group is flat fed up. We see the same crap over and over, and it doesn't matter if it's crap with a D or R label on it.

If you go back about 20 years you find a Candidate for Supervisor, Lorene Oliver, who petitioned her way onto the ballot and took 17% of the vote against Boiley with no political organization or party behind her.

Since then there has been no fresh challenge to the system. Democrats in Greece aren't even the Also Ran Party. They dredge up a slate that looks like Comedy Central and cry like little girls. Garretson should have been put to pasture 15 years ago, and taken his wife with him.

Give us candidates with some life experience and a history and they will win elections if they run. Running from a barstool don't cut the mustard!

The reality is I don't see any candidate of any party worth spit!

SCATS said...

To 1:43AM ~~ I know that SOME seniors are fed up. And I do recall when Oliver ran. However, I can tell you I have many neighbors & other older acquaintenances that that have told me they don't care what Reilich has or hasn't done. They will vote for him, regardless his opponent, regardless the Rep. track record in Greece or Monroe County. When I suggested alternatives, one person blinked at me and quietly said, "But he's not a Republican." These people are what they call "stuck" and the Rep. candidates know it and count on it.

SCATS said...

To 5/14/2013 10:13 AM ~~ Just an FYI ... I listened to last night's meeting and it was another yawner. There was little discussion, except about 2 policies up for a read. Without having the changes available, it would be tough to comment on that sort of stuff. We don't get to see any of it until after it's approved.

BOE meetings are so bad, even the union reps avoid them!

Thanks SCATS for the report! You may have confused some folks as the reference is to a comment on a different thread...

Oops! Sorry about that. I'll post it again on the other threas, too.
