The only one campaigning is Metcalf. She is pounding the pavement and ringing door
bells for support. Oberg would never do that in a million years. O'Toole is name
recognition but no substance. Oberg name recognition only with a huge chip on his shoulders for the way the community, members of the current board and especially you and your blog treated him during his last year. Look for Joe Grinnan to run for prez. Voter turn out, 3650. budget passes, school buses a toss up.

To 4:04PM ~~ That seems pretty all inclusive: "the community, members of the current board and especially you and your blog"

Did he leave anyone out?? lol

What the Greece residents don't know is, that voting yes for new buses ends up not costing the Greece tax payers anything. The Government reimburses Greece Central for every penny of the cost for the new buses. I work there and new buses are needed. They are old and costing more to fix them. Just an FYI for everyone.

Here is the money question...how many write-in votes are needed? If someone gets 8 votes and they are the most, are they elected? Is there a min needed and if not, the BOE appoints? Also write ins are not normally counted unless the Board of Elections is requested to do so. Who makes the request for GCSD?

I am voting for the ODY parent. There is a movement there to get parents out to elect them. May be a dark horse...

To 8:47PM ~~ When you say "The Government reimburses Greece Central for every penny of the cost for the new buses" WHERE DOES THE GOVT GET THAT $$ FROM???

Of course, it comes from our STATE TAXES!!! There's no such thing as a "free lunch" no matter how much the BOE harps about 'em.

To 10:10PM ~~ It's already been widely reported that write-in votes are being sought. The person with the most wins. There is no minimum.

Why would people with kids in other district schools want to get an OA parent on the BOE?? You do realize that it takes FIVE VOTES TO GET ANY CHANGE ON THE BOE, right?

Anonymous said...

Write in votes are NEVER counted unless requested. Go to the Board of Elections website to read those rules. I bet no one from GCSD requests same so the BOE gets to pick.

OA is VERY organized on this election. I got an "unofficial" robo-call on the write-in last night from the OA candidate. Yes it takes 5 slots on the BOE, but you win them one at a time. OA will ensure SofC will remain via stacking the BOE. The other schools are not organizing so they will lose via apathy.

Write in votes will not be counted until the next day or two. What that means basically is that winner of the third seat won't be known Tuesday night. As far as the number of votes needed there is no minimum. Conceivably, one vote for only one name would be enough for a legitimate candidate. Excluding, M M,D D,Scats, etc.

SCATS said...

To 5:58AM ~~ The Board of Elections doesn't count our votes. Our Board Clerk oversees elections for the school district. It's part of her job, a big part. The rules for school district elections are a different animal on many levels.

OA can be as organized as they like. In reality, many of their parents come from a part of town that isn't known for getting to the polls, especially those in their new territory. At this point, I think the only SOC anyone really cares about is Pine Brook. For yet another year, they've remained essentially untouched by comsolidation, despite Babs promises to do otherwise. On a good day, the parents of Greece's SOC have become so complacent, it's how they lost West Ridge to Parkland.

To 9:55AM ~~ WTH are "MM" and "DD"??

Agreed, old unsafe buses need to be replaced. However, if the district conducted responsible busing as opposed to the irresponsible busing now taking place, we wouldn't have to replace so many tired out buses that continue to crisscross
the entire town transporting one student to a building well out side of his or her attendance
zone. We presently have more buses for far less than 12,000 students than we had when we had over 15,000. Something is obviously wrong here and that kind of math doesn't make it.

SCATS said...

To 11:29AM ~~ When we had over 15,000 students, we actually expected some of them to walk to school, too!

Anonymous said...

I got robo call too.

If even one write-in vote can make the winner, then why is there the board appointment option? Every election has at least one write-in.

Anonymous said...

Do we replace old worn out school board members as often as we do worn out busses? If not lets pass a law to that effect.

Love to get some of that free money the state keeps handing out. Must come from New Jersey!

Anonymous said...

I got robo call from OA related candidate too!

SCATS said...

To 3:42PM ~~ In the past, we had three or more contending for three seats. Now we have two contending for three seats. There could be a dozen different names written-in. Maybe several get 3-4 votes. If only one gets 5 votes, isn't that a clear winner?

SCATS said...

To 3:49PM ~~ Do the calls say WHO is paying for them?

Anonymous said...

no info on who is paying.

I hope a vote of 5 does not elect someone in a town of 50,000 voters!

SCATS said...

To 4:26PM ~~ I would love it if someone gets on BOE with under 100 votes! It will show just how little people care any more. Of course, that's JUST WHAT THE BOE wants ... aside from the embarrassment of it.

Anonymous said...

So then who is paying for the robocalls? Candidates are required to file their expenses.

Anonymous said...

Who is sending the calls? Who are they going to?

Anonymous said...

Are write-ins "candidates" that need to do so? Since they are not on the ballot...

Anonymous said...

That robocalls are being made is quite interesting. Quite apart from cost there is the simple issue of infrastructure - there are very few organizations with the equipment and the phone number lists needed to make a robocall campaign.

Of course, one of the organizations that has those resources (and routimely sends out robocalls) is the school administration themselves. Are the robocalls perchance targeting parents of children currently in a specific school? That would indicate where the calls are coming from.

Anonymous said...

SCATS what happened to your 'election poll'? Didn't like the results?

Anonymous said...

They are coming from a write-in seeker whose kids go to ODY and PB before that from the message. I think they are going to parents at the SOCs since I got it. I know many of my kids friends parents got the call too. The message is very SOC oriented...need to continue the program and having another Pro-SOC BOE member will support the greater good. I just assumed they used the District notification system but now that I think of it they should not be using that so I am not sure how they got our phone number...

SCATS said...

To 4:20AM ~~ It was hacked, so I deleted it.

SCATS said...

Regarding robocalls ~~ It sounds to me as if the district (or perhaps someone in the town) is inappropriately allowing them to use the equipment to make the calls. The fact that the list seems specific to certain schools is troubling. I do not believe that the district should be sharing that sort of directory information for a campaign. It's a privacy issue.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the district or town are trying to stack the board with like-minded members...

Anonymous said...

3:42 The board option exists for a few reasons. No write in votes. Those getting votes don't meet the requirements such as don't live in district, age, etc. All of those who otherwise qualify, refuse to serve. Thus the one yr board appointment.

Anonymous said...

With all the robocalls I am sure there will be at least 1 write-in vote...

Anonymous said...

Re: Poll- How was it "hacked"? Why not post the results in a message on HERE?

Anonymous said...

Doesn't the person That is sending the robo calls work for the county? If she does the calls are most likely coming from someone there. I have not received one but then again I do not have a child at a lottery school. The districts number shows up on caller ID , from what I understand this is to not the number showing up. The calls do not start out with who they are coming from? This does not seem like a very above board tactic coming from someone that wants to be a board member.

SCATS said...

To 9:31PM ~~ There are no results, because I interrupted someone's idea of "fun." I don't care to share the details. There is some hope the person will be caught.

Anonymous said...

The robocalls need to be brought up at a BOE meeting before the new board is impaneled. From the testimony offered here (that the message went out to School of Chance parents only) there is good reason to believe that the school district, either deliberately or through the malfeasance of a rogue employee, improperly influenced the election through use of district property (either the calling hardware or the phone lists, and probably both).

It is probably too low-level an offense to motivate the police to investigate, but it is very directly a BOE matter. Perhaps a re-vote in a few months is necessary. That would allow the SoC candidate the opportunity to resubmit her petitions as well.

Or we can just accept it as how business is conducted, bend over and politely look the other way.

SCATS said...

To 2:02AM ~~ It wouldn't surprise me to find that the insider "help" was done via current BOE members! Our district is corrupt. Sharing that type of directory info should worry every parent out there!

Anonymous said...

Maybe I'm missing something here. Regarding these ROBO calls, assuming the message is the same, who are the calls promoting? What write in candidate are we talking about? If you know, there is nothing illegal or slanderous to post his or her name.

To the person who talks about evidence of wrong=doing, what evidence exists that this is a fact? So far I see nothing here that even approaches hearsay or
circumstantial, just a lot of speculation and theory. It appears that you are coming to your conclusion strictly based on comments posted here only. This
hardly supports the case for holding another election and extend the petition deadline. As for the charge that Scats makes that the district is corrupt is. as well, not supported by facts that support that statement. Without proof, that is nothing more than blowing smoke up your collective asses. JUST THE FACTS,MA'AM.

I heard that it was one of the candidates friends that orchestrated the mass phone calls. They do not work for the district, however wherevet they do wok they must have a similar system .

To 10:14AM ~~ "Maybe I'm missing something here."

Yup, you sure are!! You're missing lots of things!! Among them are the fact that I stated I'm not supporting this candidate (or any, for that matter), so I prefer to not help promote them with names.

I've witnessed about 20 yrs of GCSD shenanigans upfront & personally. Among the corrupted election related tactics that I have PERSONALLY WITNESSED are:

1 - a prominently placed card with a write-in candidates name (tricky spelling & spelling counts!) properly spelled RIGHT IN FRONT OF VOTING BOOTHS. This candidate had GTA support.

2 - a reporter interviewing voters in front of election booths on vote day and ending her noontime stint by urging people to get out and vote yes on the budget. Her hubby was a teacher at a SOC of the time.

3 - our infamous BOE Prez Julia ending a BOE meeting by telling everyone to get out & vote yes on the upcoming budget. For some reason no one could ever explain, that last few minutes of the BOE meeting recording was missing when it made its way to TV broadcast! I'm sure it was a miracle that included less than "divine" intervention.

So when it comes to corruption, you've now been enlightened to what doesn't even begin to encompass the tip of the iceberg only as it relates to elections! The fact that certain students' directory info has been shared to support a candidate no one heard of 6 weeks ago is more than likely just the start of something much more smelly than we know.

I am voting for Ilan Ficus. Write-in. Supports SOC as he thinks they focus resouces to students focused on learning as opposed to sports. Wants to control non-student spending. Examples: No more summer camp for BOE and Babs. Sell the oak boardroom and meet in regular auditoriums like students.

Ilan's saying the right things to me...but this is a write-n and I bet many of the folks he has spoken to may mis-spell his name. I hope we don't get a Florida 2000 type count!
