Sure wish we knew what these pictures were all about. (I assume we're supposed to think something "negative," right?)

To 9:14AM ~~ Why would you assume that? Are you one of Greece's "Negative Nellys?"

9:14 13 Wham had it on last nights news. GPD held a self defense class for other Greece First Responders (Fire/EMS).

Another day of not doing what he was hired to do...

I believe if you look closely, you will find that the other cop was holding a gun on Baxter. Baxter was demonstrating the submission position in the first
photo. This tactic is used to give the gun holder the i409mpression that he is in charge of the situation, Rope a dope comes to mind. In the next photo he is demonstrating the take down disarming tactic used by police officers around the country. Notice the position of the gun holder’s arms and the hand holding the gun away from his body pointed at the floor in case a round is fired during the take down procedure.

Since most hand guns today are hair trigger automatics, chances are good that the gun man will get off at least one round before being disarmed by the Chief. Good job chief!!

Are these pictures of the GPD training session for first responders that was covered on the news yesterday? I thought it was good to help the first responders get some training on what to do in an emergency, how to respond to that threat, etc. If it saves a life, then it was training well done and money well spent.

Maybe a little bit of self defense training

To 10:18AM ~~ You get an A+ on current events :)

To 10:36AM ~~ You get an A+ for Civics (PIG) class.

To 11AM ~~ You get an "F" for watching too many CSI type crime shows! Stop living in the past.

To 1:22PM ~~ You get an A- ... since your answer was posed as a question. Confidence counts!

To 2:12PM ~~ You get a solid B. Obviously, you made an "educated guess."

I think I saw this demonstration last year at the citizen police academy. Did any one else attend that session when this tactic was discussed? As I recall, another officer did what Baxter is doing.

Why was Chief Todd singled out with comments like "Brought to his knees" and "Slumped for action"? Those sure seem like "negative observations" to me!

Scats, how can you be so sure that 11:00 is wrong?

SCATS said...

To 4:26PM ~~ I've seen this tactic demo'd at martial arts and self-defense exhibitions. It's not just for cops ;) lol

SCATS said...

To 4:39PM ~~ I didn't say he was "wrong" ... but he is living in the past.

By the way, how do you give Baxter kudos the way 11AM did immediately after stating: "... chances are good that the gun man will get off at least one round before being disarmed by the Chief."

To me that sounds like we will be needing a new chief!!

Scats:
This is 11:00 a.m. As usual you put your negative twist on my comment. I suggest that you look at photo 2 again. The possible round fired would have gone into the floor and not the Chief. He was only in danger in photo 1. If, as you say, you've seen this tactic before, then you know there is a lot more that
follows the initial disarming take down. In reality, if there were photos 3 and 4, they would show a mat and a possible broken arm by the person holding the gun. If, as you say, I am living in the past, I would be interested in your expert opinion on how you would deal with a similar situation if confronted in this manner in today's world. I think it would be highly likely that you would be the one on your knees while offering the contents of your wallet or purse.

To 4:36PM ~~ Singled out?? THE PIC IS OF HIM!!

To 7:02PM ~~ I don't go to Greece Ridge Mall unless absolutely necessary ... same thing with Walmart & businesses along the Dewey corridor, Stone Rd. etc ... so it is highly unlikely I'll need to worry about such a confrontation.

Martial arts and self-defense experts will tell you that when it is between you and someone holding a weapon, decide WHERE you want to be stabbed, shot or whatever BEFORE attempting to disarm that person. Chances are decent that you WILL be hurt, despite such "training."

I have to admit. I'm impressed this many first responders read this blog. I didn't expect that.

Rather interesting conversation on this subject. Some comments objective, others mere speculation and assumption. Having had some experience in this topic, in this instance the chief was demonstrating just one of the maneuvers taught by
experts. There are several more available depending several factors. First, the type of weapon confronting the victim. Next, the distance between the one with the weapon on the victim. And finally, the position of the weapon relative to
the victim and which hand holds the weapon. This assumes the weapon in question is a knife or hand gun. Circumstances are different for long guns and shot
guns. While there are many generally accepted tactics that can be deployed in any of these circumstances, in order to be come proficient, it takes hours of practice and even then there is the possibility of injury or death. The situation confronting the chief in the photo, while a possibility, the aiming position of the gun man, low, is highly unlikely . This low position allowed the chief to use the method shown.

In conclusion, unless you have had extensive training in this area, do not attempt this tactic unless you feel you have no other option.

To 10:45AM ~~ "In conclusion, unless you have a photogenic smile and a big badge like Todd's, do not attempt this tactic unless you feel you have no other option." :)

This week the government said when attacked you should pee on yourself, stand in the puddle & throw up.

Maybe we can get Baxter to demonstrate that technique.

Those are not the only areas of this town that you might find yourself
confronting that kind of situation. In your case at the town hall, GCSD, the PD and fire departments could be a good a possibility. LOL

To 6:43PM ~~ Believe me, I know! lol That's why I keep a file with all of the threats I receive, including the ones promising me a "slow response." I've got a wonderful lawyer :D I just feel very badly for the folks they mistakenly believe are me!!

Hollywood Baxter loves the radio and camera. He's not just your average chief he tries to be a radio host and thinks he's entertaining. He is being used by Kimberly as a prop for her BS garbage. It really diminishes his position.

SCATS said...

To 3:50PM ~~ I agree ... I'd go as far as to say that Todd diminishes his position.
