Shooting The Messenger

From 13WHAM: "Video of some of the fighting was captured by a student, according to Heiden. That student has not been disciplined, but may be according to the district.
“Even though you might think that you’re a bystander and you’re not involved, as we’ve seen illustrated in this situation, there are some consequences for bystanders because with the social media it may become known that you were part of that situation,” said Heiden."

SCATS ~~ This is such a typically dysfunctional reaction by GCSD! Let's see ... DO administration did NOT know how bad the fights were UNTIL THEY SAW THE VIDEO! Then they USED THE VIDEO to ID the people who were involved in the fighting! So if they punish the student who made the video, they are basically saying they do NOT want to know what's happened or who was involved next time. And we ALL know there will be a next time ;)

i completely disagree. the student who did post that video is a scum bag anyway and deserves punishment. taping the fight is just as bad as actually fighting because it inflames the situation and causes more drama. the student who i wont name deserves much punishment as he gets of too easily for other crude acts of harassment

To 2:34PM ~~ I've heard all about who the coddled student supposdedly is. While I wouldn't ordinarily like to see him get away with anything, in this case the reality is that the video served to show that DO had a HUGE problem on their hands as well as to identify the participants. Would you prefer it all get swept under the rug?

the video itself is great evidence. the student should have taken it to an adult immediately, not post it to the internet. the motive of the student was not to do good but to show off

To 6:29PM ~~ How does one show-off using a fictitious name?

the kids all new who posted it and they brag about it as well

Oh, c'mon. We all know that kids know which of their friends posted which video(s) regardless of any "name" they publish it under. It is blatant "showing off."

Remember the Karen Klein video. The kid that posted that video was obviously "showing off" for his friends. It's rampant these days. It's all about "status among their peers."

Jerks!

To 7:22PM ~~ So it would have been better if DO never found out there were THREE HUGE BRAWLS at Athena over two days? And the "participants" could have gotten away with their violence without repercussions too? This is an either/or situation. You either get the videos AND accountability, or you get nothing. So uch for GCSD caring about student safety, fighting, bullying, and a whole bunch of other things.

To 7:51PM ~~ The real "jerks" are those who did the fighting and the paid Athena administrators who took too little action after the first incident.

Unfortunately nothing will change. Just like the bus incident and the district lying to us about the kids not being allowed bus transportation. Yet the kids were on the bus. Sounds good to the media. I predict a babs bullying conference in thenear future.

Scats... 7:51 here. 7:22 and I were just responding to your "fictitous name" comment, that's all.

To 9:08PM ~~ How do you know what 7:22PM meant?

You don't see any similarity between her posting and mine? Geez.

I just posted the audio from Kimberly & Beck's show. They are on the same page as I am and have asked that ANY ATHENA STUDENT who has the video on their phone to contact them. They believe (and I agree) that the video needs to be available to show how SERIOUS this fight was. They will KEEP YOU ANONYMOUS.

Who said "he gets off too easily"? Was that his girl friend??
