Reilich Wants Auggie's Seat*

The Greece Republican Committee is expected to meet Thursday night, hear recommendations from its candidate screening committee and vote on designated candidates for November’s elections. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 1 Vince Tofany Blvd.

Top among the positions open this year is the supervisor’s slot, as longtime Supervisor John Auberger is prohibited by term limits from running for a fourth term.

Reilich was in Albany for the gun law rally and could not immediately be reached for comment.

* "according to multiple sources in a position to know" ~ so sayeth the D&C

UPDATED 11:20PM ~ 13WHAM reports that the Greece Dems have 4 potential contenders to consider for a run for Greece Town Supervisor in November. They are:
  • Dave Garettson
  • Rita Garettson
  • Dan Maloney
  • Dick Bebee

SCATS ~~ There's nothing as transparent as announcing an important meeting to the public just a couple of hours BEFORE it happens! (Hear the sarcasm?)

STAR Tax Program Fraught With Abuses

New York State audit shows difficulty in tracking, finding abuses of the program

Auditors found that nearly 20% of STAR exemptions should not have been granted.

SCATS ~~ Although Greece is specifially mentioned as one municipality included in the audit, NOTHING was mentioned in the article about what was found! Another fine example of the D&C's inability to report the news!

Julia Plants New Mole in District Office

AnonymousAnonymous said...
Well I listened to the board meeting this evening and Julia and her group of witches got their way. They got rid of the current clerk and replaced her with one of their PTA buddies. Now she has a mole at district office who can spy on everyone and report back. Be on alert D/O employees keep it all on the down low there's going to be a mole in your presence. Of course you'll always know where she is because she has Voice that will grate on you. One can only imagine what there going to pay her can't wait for the minutes to come out. Good luck board you have a clerk with no district office experience and I'll bet you've pissed off the person you want to train her.    2/26/2013 8:58 PM

SCATS ~~ It's good to know that despite conducting two nationwide searches for a Supt. that we then "discovered" right in our backyard (imagine that!!) that other positions are still filled through the good old boy (or old hag?) network! Way to go Greece BOE!

GCSD Admin. Out Of Touch With Reality

"The schools are absolutely safe and secure for students and staff. The Athena incident (three fights in two days) was unfortunate... but it doesn't reflect Greece Central at all." ~~ Shaun Nelms, deputy supt.

SCATS~~ I wonder how Mr. Nelms would explain the messages I get from parents, students & district employees concerning:
  • police calls to the schools;
  • fights in the schools and on buses;
  • parents complaining about ongoing bullying by students in classrooms despite attempted intervention;
  • reports about weapons confiscated by staff;
  • parents who report recieving 4-5 calls per week from their children's building to update them about various incidents?
I am personally aware of a growing number of parents who have REMOVED THEIR CHILDREN FROM GREECE SCHOOLS SINCE SEPTEMBER. Why? Because they WERE NOT SAFE!

The State of GCSD

SCATS' Top 10 BLOGs Tell All
In just 10 days, SCATS will celebrate 7 years since we began covering the "news" about Greece, much of which other media either wasn't privy to until they read it here, or they decided not to share it at all, for whatever reason. During that time, numerous major crimes, scandals and political manipulations have kept the Town of Greece and/or the Greece Central School District in the headlines. Some of those now infamous scandals include:
  1. Nick Joseph's crash which precipitated the meltdown of the Greece Police Dept. under Merritt Rahn's watch;
  2. Gary Pignato's conviction for accepting sexual favors as a cop;
  3. the firing and immediate rehiring of "Webby"- a well-liked hockey coach;
  4. the trial and exoneration of Roderick Scott who shot and killed a 16 year old who was rifling through other people's autos in the middle of the night;
  5. the uncovering of the illicit affair of our Town Supervisor with a woman murdered by her schizophrenic son;
Obviously, these are just a few of the stories that have put Greece on the map in recent years. Interestingly, despite the shock and/or horror that the aforementioned stories brought to the community, none of those items are as "popular" as the ones that comprise SCATS' Top Ten list of most viewed BLOGs (list posted on top left side in descending order). Even more noteworthy is the fact that ALL of the Top 10 BLOGs concern events that happened in the previous 365 days!
Sadly, EIGHT of the Top 10 BLOGs focus on problems within our school district. Yup, you heard that correctly ~ Babs' & Julia's failed "leadership" of the past year keeps the Greece Central School District in the headlines!  The more closed door meetings they hold, the less discussion there is in public, the more dysfunctional they become in their "management" of the district seems to cause more folks to seek out information or to share their experiences here (and on Facebook).
Even more shocking is the fact that SIX of the most viewed BLOGs ever concern problems emanating from the Athena campus ~ the school that our BOE and Supt. were telling us isn't deserving of such negativity at last night's Board of Education meeting! TWO of those BLOGs rose to the top of the charts just last week. ONE unseated Karen Klein's internationally known debacle from its previous firm grip on the number 3 position within only 4 days!
In summary, although Babs landed at the helm of Greece Central just over 18 months ago, with Julia's help as BOE Pres., she's "led" our town/school district into headline news more often than any other community "leader" in the past 7 years! SCATS owes these two a huge "THANK YOU"!!
Without Babs and Julia,
this BLOG might have no reason to continue!

Auberger's salary:

The Athena Fights Detailed ...

I KNOW THIS IS ANNOYING, BUT YOU MUST TURN OFF SOUND FOR EACH PART INDIVIDUALLY! Due to this, I'm posting older BLOGS on the NEXT page. TY for understanding ;)

Part I ...
Watch this at WBZA

Part II ...

Part III ...

Shooting The Messenger

From 13WHAM: "Video of some of the fighting was captured by a student, according to Heiden. That student has not been disciplined, but may be according to the district.
“Even though you might think that you’re a bystander and you’re not involved, as we’ve seen illustrated in this situation, there are some consequences for bystanders because with the social media it may become known that you were part of that situation,” said Heiden."

SCATS ~~ This is such a typically dysfunctional reaction by GCSD! Let's see ... DO administration did NOT know how bad the fights were UNTIL THEY SAW THE VIDEO! Then they USED THE VIDEO to ID the people who were involved in the fighting! So if they punish the student who made the video, they are basically saying they do NOT want to know what's happened or who was involved next time. And we ALL know there will be a next time ;)

Heads MUST Roll

"The initial fight that happened on Thursday, that fight, we were not aware of the severity of the fight. It was relayed to us as just a couple of students involved, so we did not know the volume of students until one video came to light. What happened after that is the next day. There were a couple of fights in the parking lot those were smaller in scale and as you know they were broken up by security personal. Is it typical for us to have those fights in close proximity, no that's not typical it's not something we'd like to replicate.” ~~ Laurel Heiden

SCATS ~~ So it appears that Athena Administration FAILED TO DO THEIR JOB of communicating what was happening to District Office last week. On Monday morning, SCATS rolls out the videos.

More than 24 hours later, GCSD dusts-off their spokesperson (Supt. still MIA) to face cameras and downplay/fib about what they knew, when they knew it and what happened, in general ~ "There were a couple of fights in the parking lot those were smaller in scale ..." Seriously??

As for frequency of fights in Greece Schools, parents tell me they receive 4-5 calls/week about trouble in the schools their kids attend! I hear nothing from GCSD about trying to work with parents to make any changes.

It's truly every child for himself inside a GCSD school!

Greece Police Investigating Teacher

Greece Police are investigating inappropriate communications between a male teacher and female student. Text messages and emails had been traded between the two and meetings were arranged in public locations. The teacher has been reassigned to a non-instructional position since December, awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

Greece BOE Needs To Readdress
Cell Phone & Other Policies
That Are NOT Working

Last July, the Greece Central School District Board of Education voted to allow cell phones and other technology in the classroom. Various comments made that night are coming back to haunt us now.

"Coming from a younger generation perspective, I think this tech is going to bring the district forward. It's going to help our students become more acclimated with the global community." ~~ Adam Crandall

Just one person, teacher Cheryl Ebertz, spoke out against the measure. "Hearing or feeling the vibration would be such a temptation to check the phone. Even adults have a problem with this while driving."

BOE member Joseph Quirk said such problems would have to be addressed in the future.
"I think its going to bring tech into the classroom. If there are issues down the road we can always come back and address them, but we're in the 21st century. Gulp and go forward and see what happens."

Today, we saw this on local TV news:

The Greece Central School District needs to:
  • Purge schools of students who are stealing services
  • Hold administrators, other employees accountable for student supervision & thereby regain control ~~ This includes YOU, Babs!!
  • Address racial issues
  • Be honest & forthright with the community about these internal problems
  • Tighten policy and ensure it is specific & employed consistently throughout the district
  • Clearly state what disciplinary measures will be used when fights happen
  • Work with Greece Police ... locate Todd Baxter!
  • Make schools SAFE for students!

Nearly 500 Saw The Videos

I'm guessing very few!

Just because GCSD sent out an automated call promising that students would be "held accountable" does NOT resolve the problem!

They've had the link for the first video removed already.

Problem solved!
Pick up the phone and DEMAND:
  • Greece Schools be rid of those who are stealing services (don't belong attending here);
  • That  the adults who are in-charge of SUPERVISION, security, administration and other PAID JOBS be held accountable;
  • They implement policy that is SPECIFIC, enforceable and consistent throughout the schools with clear repercussions for infractions included within the verbiage.

For all you doubters...

Check the police reports for Thurs. 1/31, 2:10 pm call at Athena for approx. 50 student mass in rear lot - Athena student v. College student with friends along. Snowplow stakes used as weapons...And a number of combatants. It's on FB and Twitter! Also reference Fri 2/1 2:10 p.m. call for another 50 student mass with a fight involving a number of students at Athena. A number of arrests reported. Didn't see many security (only 1 initially, 2nd appeared way too late)! How many are in the building at this time of day? I see alot every morning! Don't see many in the afternoon. And why is 2:00 p.m. a bad time to get a Police response on a 911 call such as these? Doesn't GPD know that 7000 children leave school at this time? Perhaps our now never present Chief can answer this one.

Reports of students with weapons on school buses, in parking lots, locker rooms and other places on Greece Central School District property continue to emerge.

Friends, parents, employees & students continue to report to SCATS about specific incidents of fighting and/or discovery of weapons, especially at the Athena campus.
