Playing Politics With Crime Stats?

The Greece Police Department's crime statistics for 2012 show crime fell 6% from 2011 while calls for service rose 6.3-percent.  DWI arrests rose 35% from 2011 and 47% from 2010.

“These numbers are simply the result of hard work and professionalism bolstered by cooperation from the community. Our officers handled over 92,000 calls for service and made nearly 3,000 arrests in 2012. Officers are tasked with making decisions consistent with law, policies, and procedures in a contentious environment, and many times those decisions are not consistent with involved party’s desires.” ~~ Police Chief Todd Baxter (WHEC-TV)

SCATS ~~ Does "cooperation from the community" include having residents tackle & hold suspects for the cops like they did recently at a Dewey Ave. gas station? Does "making decisions consistent with law, policies, and procedures" include buying drinks after hours for under-aged, same-sex partners found after cruising social media sites?

Aren't the numbers mentioned chosen specifically to make it appear that things have improved, when in reality they aren't as good as they were a couple of years ago? As I recall, the crime stats from the prior year (2011) showed a HUGE increase in crimes, most notably in the area of burglaries/break-ins. In fact, Facebook friends are telling me within the past week that AC units are still being kicked-in to gain entry to homes in the Rumson Rd. area and other neighborhoods off Dewey Ave. near Northgate. This week's "Police Reports"  supports the notion that burglaries/break-ins remain a HUGE problem in the Town of Greece.

So reducing crime by 6% after it rose more than that the prior year is just playing with the numbers to achieve the desired outcome, isn't it? How do you explain the big rise in calls for service, nearly one for every man, woman & child in Greece, if crime actually fell overall?

Baxter would never intentionally misled the community. Shame on you for stating otherwise SCATS.

To 2:58PM ~~ you know this how?

One thing I know for sure. "NEVER" is a very long time.

Scats, where did the "toilet paper" posting go?

To 10:36PM ~~ It's right where it was originally posted - the thread titled: "It's National School Choice Week ."

Baxter is a politician make no mistake about that. His fan club make think other wise, but that's the cold hard fact. He is a politician.

Not all calls for service are crime related. Do your home work before making outrageous conclusions and comments that are consistant with your profile.

To 8:59AM ~~ Agreed.

To 10:06AM ~~ You need to READ FOR MEANING BEFORE SHOOTING OFF ;) I never said they were all related to crime. Maybe you are trying to tell us GPD operates like RRFD and counts it as a "call" when someone drops off their outdated Rx for Tylenol w/codeine from a past dental procedure??

10:06 AM sounds like a member of GPD. LOL

Fast and loose with the numbers. We shouldn't be surprised should we?

To 9:18AM ~~ I'm sure you're mistaken. Crime is down in Greece ;)

Why isn't our chief talking about this incident on the media? Denying it happened probably. Anyone see GPD or was it just NYS Troopers conducting the raid? The place has gone down hill since the previous owner sold it.

To 2:20PM ~~ He appears to be avoiding such appearances. Things have gone so far south that even Schammerhorn has been talking to the media lately.
