Greece PD Wants SRO's Back In Schools

GCSD Stopped Paying For SRO's In October!

"There is not an official school resource officer program this year.” ~~ Lt. Jason Helfer, Greece Police

“What we're trying to do is a different model where we have a full time school resource officer so it would be the same person available to us everyday.” ~~ Ed Knaak, GCSD security

According to WHEC-TV, Greece cops are told to patrol school parking lots and hallways on their down time, while GCSD continues to negotiate with the Town of Greece over how to pay for the program.
SCATS ~~ I don't know which worries me more: Having cops inside the schools ... or knowing the cops are wanting to get back inside the schools. Here's yet another story without Chief Baxter on camera. What is he hiding from??

Why don't you ask him? Instead of making up stories just call. I am sure he will take YOUR call.

Where's the question?
Are not GCSD buildings & grounds within the area GPD is mandated to cover?

When a crime is committed on GCSD property is not GPD mandated to write and then forget the report?

Why the hell should taxpayers pay for a donut muncher sitting in the school building growing fatter?

EXACTLY what will a cop sitting in a GCSD building accomplish? Worse, what if the cop is a child interested potential sex offender, or buys drinks for the kids? (We already came close on that)

Does GCSD think more illusion will remove the problems their incompetence fosters? Will this be another "We Tried" excuse for the next bumper car incident in a GCSD parking lot?

Lets cut the crap and get the truth & reality out in the light of day. Criminal behavior is being encouraged by GCSD supervision. A drug dog would need Re-Hab after 2 days in a GCSD school.

We'd be ahead hiring Grimshaw's Goons to enforce joy & happiness.

To 10:14PM ~~ I don't "make up stories." His absence has been noted by many.

To 10:44PM ~~ You made some points I hadn't thought of. I agree about the district encouraging criminal behavior by failing to handle it properly. It WILL get worse.

"Why isn't Chief Baxter on camera?" I suspect that unlike our Washington politicians the Chief has learned that negotiations should be done face to face and not by one side, then the other, pontificating into the cameras. The tougher the negotiation, the more important to have conversation in private.

He has a Public Information Officer. He doesn't need to make the media circus rounds, contrary to what you may think. You as usual haven't got a clue about anything in the Town of Greece other than rumours, innuendo, and hear say.

SCATS said...

To 7:59AM ~~ That only explains this ONE absence. He's been camera-shy ever since he injured Lt. Scott Peters in the boxing ring last August.

To 8:12AM ~~ LMAO@ Public Info Officer!! If that were the case then we wouldn't be seeing Uhrmacher one time, Phelan the next time, then Helfer ... and so on ... and so forth through the ranks we go!! We would be seeing ONE spokesperson often/typically ;) That hasn't happened since Leary was removed from the public eye back when Nick Joseph was still picking glass out of his face.

Helfer is a much better public information officer than Leary ever was. Truth be told. Leary should stay off camera at all times. Helfer is more comfortable than all of them.

And you don't see Shepherd as the spokesperson all the time either. That's why they have a public information officer.

To 12:46PM ~~ I don't expect a chief tyo be the only one but I do expect him to be visible. I've seen Shephard more in the past month than I've seen Baxter in the last 6 months. THAT'S the issue ;)

in 2005, the school board voted to require the district to continue the program as the federal funding for the RO ended for the PD. A motion was passed that required the district to continue the program and reimburse the PD for the costs. I'm not aware of a motion to end that practice . If in fact it was a budget recommendation from the Super, those board members who voted for this, should be ashamed of them selves as they continue to NOT do what they were elected to do.As for Ed Knaak he is and always was an over paid( until recently about $80,000) waste of tax dollars. Ask any former retired cop who took the security job why they quit and they will all tell you because Knaak tied their hands and they were unable to effectively deal with the multitude of disciplinary problems that existed. So as not to look stupid in the eyes of the students who knew this fact and a matter of self respect for the lousy $9.80 an hour it was not worth it.Now, because of pension restriction, he is part time. Time for a new full time professional to take his place.
In defense of the chief, most departments including the City, Sheriff, And State Pd , have an officer designated as the official public relations officer. When Leary was removed from that position by Auggie because he was close to Rahn, Chatterton got the Job. It would appear those duties now become the job of the ranking officer on duty at the time after consulting with the chief. In fact, Jason Helfer's brother is the spokes person for the Sheriffs office, not the sheriff himself. Trooper O'Donnell is the PRO For the local State PD, not the Major in charge. As one can readily see, this practice is employed by other jurisdictions without controversy with exception of Greece due to frivolous rants on this site.

To 2:05PM ~~ I looked in the online policy book & found nothing about SRO's. That's not surprising since the online version of policies is ANCIENT and remains unupdated.

As for Knaak's salary, in Aug. of 2005, our BOE saw fit to increase his salary from $78,754.00 to$84,000.00 ... just because he had a pulse. Sadly, Oberg, Walsh & Moscato all voted in favor of it. Only Hubbard went away from the pack & abstained.

TY for offering YOUR OWN "frivolous rant."

After reading the post regarding the current head of security and his compensation and your follow up response where as you felt it necessary to single out three former board members as to how they voted on a recommended pay raise has raised some questions in my mind and some confusion on my part as to why you felt it necessary to do this. Surely , since it's my understanding that in order for this item to pass five votes would be necessary . This is where I remain confused. Obviously , at least two other members would have had to vote in favor of the recommendation. My question is simply why you did not mention the names of the other board members on the question. Surely your research would contain that information . Instead, you choose to mention the name of possibly the only member who voted no, Mr Hubbard. I wonder why you did not tell us ALL the facts on this issue

I think that given the content of your response, your specific mention of the names of three former members, your mention of the name of the author of the NO vote, I believe it would be fair for me to conclude that you obviously have a personal anonymous regarding these three Individules thus the publication of their names in the context of relevancy to the comment contained in the post by 2:05 and totally inappropriate on your part and in poor taste and CHEAP SHOT at best.

To 11:26AM ~~ If I really wanted to deliver a "cheap shot", I would have brought up how Jo Kehoe bullied the HMO/BOE during an executive session (behind closed doors) to get some extravagant pay raises OK'd before she left Greece. Only ONE person dared to not go along. Since you know the outcome of the vote in detail, why didn't you bother to tell us all about it? The supposedly "fiscal conservative" HMO/Walsh/Grayson group SOLD OUT TO THE GREECE COMMUNITY!! (Grayson was absent that day.)

For the record, I mentioned FOUR BOE members by name, not 3. No one voted against the ridiculous raises (I believe three people received increases exceeding $24,000 that day!).

By the way, anyone can find the info on the BLOG's archives where it's been since it happened ;) I find it most interesting that you are so thin-skinned about it all this many years later. Of course, you are one of the three named "individules."

What I'm curious about is how SCATS supposedly knows so much about what occurs in executive session. MAN ALIVE --- if someone were to bring something out of executive session that maligned a friend/family member of SCATS, I am sure that the fur would be flying asking for the person to be beheaded or burned at the stake. But, I forget -- rules don't apply equitably to SCATS.....yeah, that's right. Silly me.

SCATS said...

To 9:56AM ~~ Over the years, many sources have shared many different things. I've broken no rules ;)

Anonymous said...

I didn't say YOU broke any rules....unless of course you are a former board member who would be bound be ethics of confidentiality for information shared in executive session.

SCATS said...

To 1:21PM ~~ Ethics on the Greece BOE!?!? Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! That's funny!! Especially in this case where raises were given as a result of closed door intimidation practices. TOO MUCH goes on behind closed doors in Greece, most especially behind the closed doors of the CURRENT BOE.

There is so much "business' that has come before VanOrman's BOE for a vote that has had NO PUBLIC DISCUSSION AT ALL. They call that "illegal."

Charlie Hubbard said...

Just a quick comment about this meeting. THIS item had and has NO business being done in ex-session - PERIOD.

So Charlie , since this is your position on the content of that subject at THAT meeting what ever that was, wouln't it be fair to conclude that you were the LEAK and told Scats Canned Clams that information and broke the law. It's a well known fact that you shared these protected issues concerning personnal matters etc with. Big Brother.

Anonymous said...

Scats, you know that these alleged raises had to be approved as an agenda item and voted on in public by members of the current board.I agree the present board is remiss in not engaging in discussions on agenda items prior to a vote. While I have a problem with that, there is nothing illegal about the failure to discuss items prior to a vote. Ie Town Board meetings However I find it hard to believe that current board discusses agenda items other than personnal matters and negotiation status at executive sessions which course would be contrary to the law. In any case, your having direct knowledge of such indiscretions is suspect and your comments in this area are no more than personal speculation on your part

SCATS said...

To 1:31PM ~~ First of all, I would never post something that would in any way "out" someone's identity by making it traceable back to them ;)

Secondly, your ASSumption is wrong, because you've based it on the mistaken idea there was "a leak." In reality, several different BOE members (including one who later became prez.) and other high level district "officials" shared that story.

SCATS said...

To 1:49PM ~~ OMG you are hysterical!!! Not to mention completely confused!! LOL

"Alleged raises"? Seriously!? It's a MATTER OF PUBLIC RECORD (in the form of BOE minutes!) that those raises were granted!!

If that weren't bad enough, you go on to confuse the Town Board with the school board. The current BOE is NOT discussing much at all in OPEN PUBLIC SESSION. Anyone who attends the meetings regularly can tell you that. One example: The sale of the three school buildings. There was NO discussion about pricing, the descriptions, the listings, the real estate agency chosen or any other details given at a public meeting. Long ago O'Toole let us all know they are using behind the scenes emails, phone calls and agenda meetings to DECIDE THE BOE BUSINESS OUTSIDE THE VIEW OF THE COMMUNITY.

As for my "direct knowledge" please read my previous remark. It may well be that YOU were one of the sources/leaks ;)
