BOE Prez's Kid Gets Special Tutor

Anonymous said...
Off topic but my son told me today that Board President VanOrman's son is being privately tutored by a district administrator at district office for the social studies regents. Her son was bragging about how his mother was making sure that he will get a passing grade on the regents. How nice that this opportunity is available to Board Members, and the rest of us have to pay for tutoring. And do you honestly think anyone at the district is going to let a Board Members child fail the regents for a third time. Once again Board Members children get special attention and the rest of use struggle through the system.   11/30/2012 7:51 PM

SCATS ~~ This kind of underhanded activity doesn't surprise me in the least. It's part of what gives Greece its well-deserved reputation for corruption ;) Add closed and clubby, you have our Town and School Boards.

She should shut down Zack's Twitter page the way she did Eli's. The foul language and superior attitude are quite telling.

And how could/would she ever vote against the teachers on an issue given these sorts of special favors? If these allegations are true, it explains a lot about the way she has always seemed to come down on different issues.

Btw SCATS, I bet it's been a year or so, but I never read anymore from the Odyssey elitist whose daughter was busted for weed (again) at college a while back. It's weird that he went from always having all the answers, to someone in hiding. Too funny!

If this is true, she should immediately resign her position as board president as she has allowed herself to be compromised by her employee , the Superintendant.
If true, only the Superintendant has the power to make this happen and will render Julia beholding to the boss and further denigrate her ability to objectively carry out her over sight responsibilities as president and board member.
A smart move on the part of BABS . A terrible mistake in judgement by the board president. One can only hope that this turns out to be an other unfounded rumor.

To 5:14AM ~~ If you are speaking of the person I'm thinking of, then that might also be because the girl is out of GCSD, so he no longer needs to spew the elitist crapple he wanted up to buy.

To 6:41AM ~~ In the scheme of things, this isn't Julia's worst infraction ... it's just another one ;)

Can we actually VERIFY this before we go any further?? (That would be different.)

Scats...who is the person that you posted about awhile ago that was the Supers star that was previously merely a Social Studies director or something of that nature? The name is escaping me but I remember a rather unflattering photo was posted with the topic. Is this the same person that she has recruited to help her son? Seems that it would be likely if he is willing to do anything climb the bosses ladder. What better way than to do the boss and the board prez a big solid. I apologize I can't remember the name but I am pretty sure you will remember. If that is the case I need him to help my kid too while he is at it, i don't have the $55 bucks an hour for a private tutor. Better yet if he does not pass teh test again will he automatically get passed by the skin of his teeth just to keep everyone happy. If that is the case I want someone to review that test because my guess it will smell a little fishy! The whole thing just gives everyone reason to not trust yet again.

For those who are truly interested in the mess our public education system is in I encourage you to read in today's D+C - opinion page
(also on-line)

Teacher absenteeism a drag on learning.

I readily admit this item has been a hangup of mine for years.

To 10:58AM ~~ Call Julia & ask her. Do you think she would admit it? The way I see things is, this is Greece. Most every "rumor" has turned out to be true at its core. This strikes me as being entirely within the realm of possible given WHO we are dealing with.

To 10:58AM ~~ You mean Jeff Henley, I think. Great minds think alike, because I thought of him as soon as I read this little nugget. His pic is still posted on the BLOG (search "Henley" to find it) even though Babs made him update his Twitter account to his more "professional pose" after he was outed on here.

To Charlie ~~ I saw that editorial too! It's been a longtime issue for me as well. I may post a separate BLOG about that soon. Isn't it odd that it takes Greece's own (Vargas) to make this an issue in RCD?

it's true. not only that but last year her son had a special advisement in the principal's office. It was supposed to be 1 on 1 mentoring which no other student has ever gotten. While there he saw info on other students he shouldn't have and talked about it. this is just the tip of the special treatment for this kid.

Long article in today's D/C about security at sporting events, and who gets paid what. I'm told by a friend that The largest suburban school district in the area quietly opted not to comment for the article. Hmmm, I wonder why? The absence of said district from the article is glaring though.

This rumor can't be fully true. I can understand getting a great grade or a mediocre grade on a Regents, but failing a Regents? Isn't that pretty hard to do? And failing twice? That's literally un-believable. Unless the kid is acting out, defiantly filling out his answer sheet with gibberish. In which case no amount of mentoring will address the core problem.

cisentac 25437The D and C DUH!

So let me get this straight: if the kids don't come to school, they will not learn. OK.

And if the teachers don't come to school, the kids will not learn.

WOW: I bet someone got a PHD in education doing that research!

There is a solution if someone has the guts to do it. As a parent, anyone one of you can call the school principal and ask for verification or better yet, call BABS . Or, go to next weeks board meeting and ask the question during the public forum. If you do, make sure you direct the question to BABS and not Julia. You will be ruled out of order by district policy in that regard. Other wise, it remains an unsupported rumor and further discussion is unwarranted .
Personally, I give the chances of any of these scenarios actually happening worse than the odds to win the Power Ball lottery.

To 4:18AM ~~ Greece often declines to comment on such articles. Now we all know why ;) Thanks for bringing this item to our attention.

To 5:26AM ~~ Surely you must jest! Kids fail Regents tests frequently!! Thus the need for Summer School in an attempt to boost the annual passing rate ;)

To 8:46AM ~~ When a teacher misses school, it hurts the entire student body she works with. In some instances, that's well over 100 students in a day.

To 10:43AM ~~ Too funny!!! You do realize you are talking about Greece Central, right? Do you REALLY believe they would address your question? Have you forgotten that Mz. Julia is the person who told everyone (illegally) to "Go out & vote YES on the budget" at a broadcast BOE meeting then the tape of the meeting had no such admonition on it, just a blank space???

This is Greece. We are all aware this kind of crapple happens. Look at the Karen Klein debacle! The woman FAILED to do her job but "won" the lottery for it! The idea that Julia's spawn is benefitting while mommy is at the helm is far from fantasy :)

Strictly a cop out. If you don't ask you don't get, even if it is not exactly the truth. Trouble is as always in this town, Inorder to do this you have to be VISIBLE. God forbid you put a face with your comments. Didyou ever think that they are aware of the lack of courage out here and take full advantage of this fact so why should they worry about about comments made in a vacuum by fictitious entities and a computer .

Not too long ago, we went round and round commenting about the Olympia freshman who (supposedly) got suspended for "not breaking up a fight between two other boys." Turned out THAT was not true after all... but it didn't stop us from ripping Greece staff about, did it?

SCATS said...

To 1:31PM ~~ I see, so according to you, we should "appear" and ask and accept whatever answer is given "even if it is not exactly the truth" ?? That sounds so typical of the politicians who have corrupted this town that it's almost funny ;) Then you rail on about anonymity BUT failed to sign your own comment?? Too freakin' funny!!

SCATS said...

To 6:37PM ~~ First of all, I do not recall anything being said about two boys, merely two students. Second of all, just because you say someone is wrong does not make them wrong. You didn't prove a damn thing, still haven't, won't and can't. So please, don't come back on that topic again.

How many kids in GCSD does the makeup "model" have?
How long till she gets them graduated and she can retire from the group that is BORED WITH EDUCATION?

Anonymous said...

Scats, I fail to see anything in my original post that says we should accept what answer is given , your words not mine,
Actually, if not satisfied with the response, continue to pursue this issue until satisfied. That has been my philosophy in the past and continues today. I personally have made personal appearances before the County Legislature, the Greece Town Board and the GCSD BOE.on numerous accessions in the past on issues of concern to me resulting in varying degrees of success.
As for publishing my name on this site it is pointless given the philosophy employed here. In so doing, I would simply be adding my voice to the chorus of those "crying in the wind "on this site.

To 10:25AM ~~ If you are the author of 12/02/2012 1:31 PM ~~ You stated: "If you don't ask you don't get, even if it is not exactly the truth."

What good is it to waste one's time "appearing" and "asking" then having to figure out if you've been lied to? You did not take it beyond the potential for being lied to so my assumption is, you would accept that ... and say it is better.

I hate to burst your bubble about the "crying in the wind" remark but that simply is NOT true. This site is followed by lots of eyes around the town, within the media and in some corridors of the county, too. 640,000 pageviews since May of 2008. An extensive archive of the crapple that goes on ... which has resulted in 2 of the top 10 most read BLOGs
being one from 2006 and another from 2008. Clearly, there are many interested readers, thus the continued bellyaching about anonymity and attempts to minimize the importance of this BLOG.

You no doubt have many readers of this blog I think that is a proven fact. However, I believe it's important to understand why this site is so popular. I've had some people from Greece and surrounding areas tell me that they consider it a very interesting form of entertainment as well as a window into the attitude and culture of our town as seen thru the eyes of those who post here. While true many read it ,a very small percentage of them comment. They just can't wait for the next episode of the perils of the town of Greece as projected on this blog. As to it's impact, I will leave that determination to you as moderator of ths successful blog My congrats!!

To 2:03PM ~~ You've forgotten ... there are nearly 300 (+/-) followers on Facebook who also read and/or comment. Sometimes they may comment without reading or coming to the BLOG at all. Other times, they may read the BLOG, but comment on FB.

An impact not mentioned as yet and one I am well aware is despised by the powers that be: This BLOG often reminds/informs/updates other media about stories they then go after. I've seen it happen dozens & dozens of times. Greece would be in the headlines less often without SCATS ;)

Scats I agree. Media outlets do view this site. To them it's an unending source of negativity about Greece and they know negativity sells. Keep up the good work and keep us in the news.

To 7:06AM ~~ Without people like Auggie, Babs & Julia, there would be NO BLOG ... no need for one either ;)
