McCann & Helfer: A Rift Between Greece Republicans?

Ray Levato of WHEC-TV reports via Twitter:

Rift among Greece Republicans? Monroe Co. Legislator Jeff McCann alleges improper/unauthorized actions by town GOP Leader Jerry Helfer.

McCann: "These 33 people include Jerry Helfer's immediate family, family friends & children/relatives of politically-connected people."

SCATS ~~ Interesting the timing ...very interesting!

This is good stuff. Guess Helfer thought his appointment to Auggie's job was a sure thing.

Now that Maggie lost, it is all but a done deal. McCann is a former democrat and one time leader of the local democrats before his resurrection as a republican opportunist as Auburger's political advisor and speech writer. The establishment republicans consider him as an "outsider "and out of the mainstream of the party membership's pecking order which determines who is the next in line for the next available patronage position.Jeff is not on that list.

Don't you mean Mccann? uncle Auggie hand picked Jeff Mccann to replace him when he leaves on his own, or form some other reason.

To 2:24PM ~~ Maybe that's the trouble. Auggie has stained his reign in office. Maybe anyone tainted by him is just too distasteful.

Auburger will have absolutely no say in who succeeds him.He has become an embarrassment to county and local republicans ever since the numerous scandals he was involved in.

There will be a changing of the guard next year as Auburger and his supporters on the town committee will be systematically purged and replaced by the" New Guard" .

Reilich, Antelli, Helfer, Mccann the "new guard"? Riiiiggght!

Anonymous said...

McCann was notably absent from the town board meeting as he has on several occasions Is this just coincidence?

To 3:00 PM ~ I can tell you one person that won't be part of the "New Guard", "I am him" ring a bell?

To 3:23 ~ More like Reilich, Antelli, Helfer and Morris.

According to the news, McCann's got his panties in a twist because Helfer has gotten a number of his & Reilich's & other Republicans relatives "stacked" against him in the Greece Republican party.

This is absolutely hysterical!! Nepotism comes back to bite one of the Greece cronies in the arse & he goes crying to the media! LMAO!!!

If you look at the tb agendas you will see that I am him seldom if ever has items on the agenda, Perhaps indicative of waning influence. Jeff could be right in his criticisms but he seems to lack the moral status to be an effective critic He is a major double dipper who also has a wife who works for Morelle

SCATS said...

To 5:59PM ~~ McCann is part of the closed, clubby & corrupt group that's been running this town. Now that he feels threatened by the same crapple he's supported, he's crying foul. It doesn't get much more ironic than this!

Helfer vs Garretson. That's hilarious. No wonder were laughed at.

5:02 you are on the right track ! and yes, she will follow Auburger into political obscurity along with Jeff who just slit his own throat with Riellich Inc. He will now be in his last term as a county legislator.

SCATS said...

To 7:43PM ~~ According to Ch 10 news, McCann is term limited anyway. I'm posting the story/link now that they finally posted it.

Since Jeff has friends in democratic places (Morelle) he can always go back to his old party. He would no doubt be welcome if he dished a little republican dirt

Does Jeff McCann really think he has any credibility here? He and Auberger has run politics and government in Greece since 1998 right out of town hall. What do we have to show for it? Gary Pignato, Nick Joseph, Meritt Rahn, Chuck Schwab, scandal after scandal after scandal.

Sorry, more of John Auberger is definitely not what this town needs.

I just watched the video. Thanks for posting it SCATS. McCann says he won't let power fall to a few people. What? It's been with him and Auberger for years! Is it simply that the Auberger isn't running things anymore? That's a very very good thing.

Auberger for Town Justice.

Jeff is an opportunist who like Auberger switches parties when it suits his needs. He was a democrat working for Assemblyman David Gantt. Then became a republican to work for John Auberger (himself a political opportunist) and will probably go back to being a democrat now that the republicans have rebuffed him and Auberger.

The real fools her are both the democrat and republican parties who keep taking people like McCann and Auberger in and giving them jobs.

But Joe Morelle will probably take McCann back because Jeff's wife works for him. Jeff will then run as a democrat next year.

McCann's political career is over. As a republican , his close ties to Auburger will doom him no matter what political party he belongs to. Greece Republican s know he is unelectable as a Republican nominee..

For him to switch parties again would not pass the electorate "sniff test". With regards to him being embraced by the east side gang under Morrelle is not out of the question for the simple reason that the Greece Democrats will not produce a serious candidate for Supervisor.

The logical thing for Jeff to do is realize that he has no chance to get the GOP nomination, and seek the Democratic nomination as a republican or an independent . Either of these moves would be possible and acceptable to the despararate democrats.

Actually, I don't see this happening.as a former leader of the Greece Democrats he is aware of the weakness that exists in that party as well as the fact that they are broke and have no idea how to raise enough money to run a creditable campaign

What politician is not an opportunist? Jerry Helfer, Jeff Mc Cann, Kirk Morris, Dave Garretson, Joe Morelle. They are all opportunists!!!

Anonymous said...

Which of those individuals you mention have switched parties in order to get a better gig? Only one I see. and it's not Helfer, Morris, Garretson or Morelle.

Jeff and Jackie boy have both switched sides to improve their lot in life. Birds of a feather.

Word around town is Jackson is gonna leave office early to pave the way for McCann to get appointed early and then run as an incumbent. They do this all the time. This committee battle is just a smokescreen. Mccann only needs three votes on the town board to slide right in.

Anonymous said...

11:06 Yes that is quite possible and it might happen as you suggest but I doubt he would get the votes needed.Morris will not go along for sure. the other three will not unless they plan on retiring along with Auburger as they will find themselves replaced by the party leadership. Watch how fast they distance themselves from Auburger when the time comes. If asked why they would respond by saying, Jack Who?? There are no loyalties with political whores when it comes to self preservation. Besides, Auburger's gone and for some of them they would love to seize the opportunity to stick it to him as pay back for pulling their strings.

In either case, if your scenario is right, McCaan would not get the nomination and would still have to force a primary and would loose.

I don't think all the bobbleheads think Auberger is such a great guy and would vote for his boy. Who votes for McCann?

Anonymous said...

I would vote for McCann before I ever vote for Helfer or Garretson.

Helfer is the biggest opportunist of all of them.

Both parties need a little competition in the Town of Greece. Sometimes they take things for granted.

SCATS said...

IMHO, I'd have to hold my nose (and my breath) before casting a vote for McCann, Helfer, Garretson or any other name recognizable name that's been tossed into this discussion so far. Maybe I will move ... but I'd still continue the BLOG ;)

And we thought the presidential election was bad...heaven help us in the Town of Greece in 2013.

We are material for the late night talk shows.

Anonymous said...

@9:13- You may not get the chance to vote for McCann if he leaves town hall with Auberger in a paddy wagon. That's if you believe what Rick Antelli is telling everyone of course. ;)

Anonymous said...

Gossip time!

Jeff McCann and a certain other disgruntled former republican legislator have been seen chit-chatting recently, supposedly planning strategy on their planned take over of the Greece GOP party.

Any guesses?

Anonymous said...

The same thing is happening with the dems. Garretson wants to run his wife but morelle isnt approving the move as he may run beebe. The one termer.

SCATS said...

To 2:46PM ~~ I think you may be assuming a lot. Rita G has no experience, so running for Town Supervisor probably would be like handing the seat over to the Republicans.

Anonymous said...

Garretson 's wife couldn't even carry the heavily Democratic ward last year. Not only is she not qualified, nobody knows who she is.

It doesn't matter who they run they will l lose again for two reasons other than non qualified candidates, lack of money and no way to raise enough to compete. The other and most important, an inept committee unable to get out the vote. That is why they lost in 09' the best chance they ever had and will never have again given the numerous scandals they where handed that year.

That year inspite of this, they managed to get out a meager 8% of registered Greece Democrats and lost every contest anyway Unbelievable!

Anonymous said...

I can't believe the Greece Democrats will lay down and be forced to take a guy who they've been attacking for being part of the Auberger corrupt machine. Whether you think Greece Democratic candidates are "good enough" they have at least been loyal and worked hard for their party over the years.
