SCATS ~~ This really burns my behind because they recently sent out the annual Fund Drive letter asking for donations, but of course not a single mention of an upcoming vote! It would be good to see a vote go down in flames (pun intended) just this once. I bet it would grab the attention of more than a few ;)

Greece Police Nab Burglar

Mark Huff, 28, arrested 11/28/12

According to WHEC-TV: A Greece man was arrested today on burglary and criminal mischief charges.

A Greece Police lieutenant saw a suspicious man at a home on Latona Road. According to police, when the lieutenant knocked on the front door, he saw the same man going around to the back of house.

Once the suspect exited the home, a short foot chase ensued. The suspect – Mark Huff -- was taken into custody.

Huff is also charged with possession of burglar tools. He was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due back in court on Thursday.

SCATS ~~ This is my favorite kind of cops & robbers saga: the kind where the police catch the bad guy in action!! Kudos to the unnamed cop (and those called to assist him) for a job well-done!!!

Holiday Inn Cold Case: "This Is An Arson Fire."

Reinvestigation of Holiday Inn
Arson Fire To Wrap Up Soon

"Now there's some additional testing that we wanted to do and is currently being done by the ATF off-site that's being done down south where they're doing a series of controlled burns for example, just to eliminate all possible other reasons. But the experts have told us and they're willing to testify in court that this is an arson fire." ~~ Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter.
Fire Chief Bud Phillips Still Not Interviewed By Greece Police

The reason: "We have not extended the invitation yet. It's definitely on our list of things to do. But when it comes to investigation techniques and it comes to investigative procedures, you get as much information as possible before you do any other interviews." ~~ Todd Baxter

Cold Case Updates ~ Where Are They??

Greece Holiday Inn Arson:

On November 26, 1978 arson claimed the lives of 10 people at the Holiday Inn, located on West Ridge Road in the Town of Greece, New York. No one has ever been charged with this crime. The guilty still walk free.

"LOST IN THE FLAMES" ~~ Global News Documentary

SCATS ~~ It's been months since the community heard an official update about the Holiday Inn murder investigation. Are there still two detectives assigned to the case? What about the Timothy Milgate murder case?? We were told that a possible break was made in that case several months ago too!

Beware The Assessor's Records

Anonymous said...
Screw the 4th "Justice" issue; Did you get your letter from Leo the Infallible yet?

It seems records in the Assessor's office have over time been proven over and over to be inaccurate, so now Leo the Infallible is asking Greece's dumbass taxpayers to verify the information his office uses for your property inventory.

You can even confess if you added a pool, garage or shed and Leo didn't catch you to enable Leo to raise your assessment.

Funny thing is, NY LAW says Assessor information is perfect, and if you force a hearing, there is no burden on the assessor to prove the information he is using.

Even funnier to people who know how Greece Property Inventory was done in 95 is that 90% of the property inventories are WRONG, and mostly in the Town's favor. Anybody going in and looking at their Property Inventory card will get a surprise is the way insiders see it. Property condition is another favorite fudge on the Assessor's list of ricks.

Don't forget to fill out your form so Leo can send one of his lackies by your house for a close up look. If you're real lucky Blind Paul who can't read a ruler will get your job. You might wind up with a couple hundred extra square feet of house.

Don't miss this chance to screw yourself, and pay for an envelope and postage to do it too.
11/18/2012 9:31 PM

SCATS ~~ Yup!! The records are in horrible shape! They can't even get houses correctly coded according to NY state requirements. And when you show them their inaccuracies, they ignore you.

Greece Central To Develop
'Corrective Action Plan'
For Failing Radio Station, WGMC-FM 90.1

“Does this jeopardize the radio station? No. I don’t believe so ... We are reaching more listeners, so our listenership is up, and donations are up and things are looking good ...We are just a small mom-and-pop organization. We have right-sized ourselves."~~ Rob Linton, station manager

SCATS ~~ The fact that it takes 10 years BEFORE anyone decides to take "corrective action" and that the station manager sees this as no big deal is quite telling about the mindset of those who run Greece Central! They simply do not care, as long as they get to continue on!! In this economy, if the situation can't be fixed immediately, it's time to dissolve this white elephant.

McCann vs Helfer

Ready For Another Full Year
Of Campaigning Ahead?
13WHAM Reports:
"McCann is calling for a special meeting of the Greece Republican Committee after 33 new members were added in September. McCann claims their additions were “improper and unauthorized” and also that many “include Jerry Helfer’s immediate family, family friends, and the children and relatives of select politically-connected people.”
“They're really related to Jerry Helfer who is the Republican town leader there is also a number of people with the last name Reilich, and other people who are politically connected," McCann said in an interview Wednesday.
Assemblyman Bill Reilich, another person added to the committee, is also the Monroe County Republican Party Chairman.
"Clearly this is an attempt by a couple of political leaders in our community to try to control the Greece Republican Committee," McCann continued.
"I have to say I'm disappointed with the tact that Jeff has taken today,” Helfer responded. “I was with him as recently as last night's legislative meeting and he didn't express any concerns to me at that time."
Helfer said he believes all the rules were followed in appointing new members to the Greece Republican Committee because the Monroe County Committee’s bylaws supersede the town committee’s. He also said that the addition of new members is meant to bulk-up the committee entering a key election year where nine town-wide seats are up for grabs.
That committee’s membership stood at 97 before the 33 additions. A simple vote of the members in that committee this spring will likely determine the Republican Party’s nominee for the supervisor’s race next year. Both McCann and Helfer could be vying for that vote which could begin to explain this clash a full 51 weeks before the next election.

"Running for supervisor is something I'm thinking about definitely,” McCann acknowledged. “But to me this is a bigger picture this sends a message to the community about how the Republican Party operates."

"It is something I'm seriously considering,” Helfer said of a supervisor’s run. “I've been meeting with Greece residents talking to family members and friends, political leaders, to take a look at this as a possibility. I have a great love for Greece I served on the Town Board for twelve years, but I feel we can do an even better job.”

Be Sure To Visit 13WHAM's report to see the list of names & their connection to Helfer, Reilich et al. It's the first document in the list of three shown. (McCann Calls For Special Meeting of the Greece GOP Committee)

McCann's Letter To Helfer

Greece Republican Committee Rules

SCATS ~~ Mr. Helfer, you did NOTHING for your ward when you were on the Greece Town Board!! So doing ANYTHING would immediately make your performance "better."

Mr. McCann, so you don't like the taste of what the Auberger regime has been dishing out?? Imagine that!!

McCann & Helfer: A Rift Between Greece Republicans?

Ray Levato of WHEC-TV reports via Twitter:

Rift among Greece Republicans? Monroe Co. Legislator Jeff McCann alleges improper/unauthorized actions by town GOP Leader Jerry Helfer.

McCann: "These 33 people include Jerry Helfer's immediate family, family friends & children/relatives of politically-connected people."

SCATS ~~ Interesting the timing ...very interesting!

Charge Dropped Against Doyle

YNN reports: "A Rochester attorney accused of paying a former teen reality show star for sex got a break in court Tuesday. The charges for patronizing a prostitute against James Doyle were dismissed.

Doyle is still facing DWI, providing alcohol to a minor, and traffic charges.

Police say a drunken Doyle and 21-year-old Alicia Guastaferro, who was half naked, were caught in a car at the Pembroke Thruway Service Area last August.

Doyle meanwhile had always denied that there was any arrangement for sex with Guastaferro.
"The case is really over predicated on it's underlying facts, or the underlying allegations, or the lack thereof," said John Speranza, Doyle's attorney.

Doyle will be back in court February 12 to face the other charges which his attorney said are also serious.

Guastaferro will make her appearance before a judge December 11th."

Special Education: Greece Central Fails

Since school opened in September, I've recieved numerous parent complaints and questions about how the Greece Central School District handles (or doesn't) students with special needs. Most of these complaints came from parents asking what they can do when Greece ignores the specifics spelled out in their child's IEP. Most of these problems seem to be happening at our infamous "schools-of-choice" - West Ridge & Pine Brook.

Several of these complaints involve IEP's designating that the student was to have an aide available to provide some form of support, in the classroom, on the school bus, etc. I'm hearing that GCSD is ignoring the student's needs/IEP by not providing the designated support and then punishing students for not complying with various requests by teachers/staff, or for not adhering to rules, policies, etc. Some parents who attempt to advocate for their children are told to stop communicating with classroom teachers, or are threatened with further troubles for their youngster (or his/her siblings) to face should they persist. Very typical, though sad for the parents to face and pathetic on the district's end, too. Certainly GCSD can and should do it better!

Several of these totally frustrated parents have begun jumping ship by pulling their special needs students out of Greece schools and opting for private or parochial schools at great expense. Some are pulling ALL of their kids out of Greece. Adding insult to injury, once they settle into their new schools, they soon discover how far behind their children really are in learning to read, do math, etc. Then they end up facing the need to enlist tutors or other help to try to get their children back on track academically. It's a disgrace!

Let's remember that Greece Central Schools were sued not all that long ago when the Walts/Keller-Cogan administrations created a mess for parents of such students. It sounds like we're well on our way to heading back to repeating that situation. Special Education is costly enough without factoring in more lawsuits. Other districts seem to get it right. Why can't Greece?

Watch Your Wallets!

Greece Police Unveil New Police Cars
Greece Police unveil new redesigned patrol vehicles
WHEC reports: "Greece Police have unveiled their newly redesigned Greece Police Department vehicles. The 2012 Greece Police Patrol Vehicle will feature a new make and model vehicle, as well as a new exterior design. The new cars will be transitioned in to the vehicle fleet as they need to be replaced.

For the first time since the early 1990s, the vehicle will not be a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor as the Ford Motor Company has ended production of the vehicle. After extensive research, the Greece Police Department chose the Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle as the new patrol car for the department.

With the change in vehicle make and model, came a change in design of the Greece Police vehicle. The new exterior design will include a new charcoal gray with silver and white markings. The word POLICE will appear in large print on the side of the vehicle, with the words TOWN OF GREECE and the Greece Police Badge on the front doors. New additions to the design include the American Flag on the fender and a “September 11, 2001 – Never Forget” memorial on the back bumper. In a return to an old design, the Greece Police motto of “Serve, Guide, and Protect” is written on the back fender."

SCATS ~~ Lots of fancy verbiage but not a single word about cost!

Keep 'Em Busy!!

From my Facebook friends ... "WHO IS IT??"

Barack Obama met with the Queen of England. He asked her, "Your Majesty, how do you run such an efficient government? Are there any tips you can give to me?"

"Well," said the Queen, "The most important thing is to surround yourself with intelligent people."

Obama frowned, and then asked, "But how do I know the people around me are really intelligent?"

The Queen took a sip of tea and replied, "Oh, that's easy: you just ask them to answer an intelligent riddle." The Queen then pushed a button on her intercom and said, "Please send Tony Blair in here, would you?"

Tony Blair walked into the room and said, "Yes, Your Majesty?"

The Queen smiled and said, "Answer me this please, Tony, your mother and father have a child. It is not your brother and it is not your sister. Who is it?"

Without pausing for a moment, Tony Blair answered, "That would be me." "Yes! very good," said the Queen.

Obama went back home to ask Joe Biden, his Vice President, the same question. "Joe, answer this for me. Your mother and your father have a child. It's not your brother and its not your sister. Who is it?"
"I'm not sure," said Biden. "Let me get back to you on that one." He went to his advisers and asked every one, but none could give him an answer.

Finally, Biden ran in to Sarah Palin while eating out one night.
Biden asked, "Sarah, can you answer this for me? Your mother and father have a child and its not your brother or you sister. Who is it?"

Sarah Palin answered right back, "That's easy, its me!" Biden smiled, and said, "Thanks!" Then he went back to speak with Obama. "Say, I did some research and I have the answer to that riddle. ------ Its Sarah Palin."

Obama got up, stomped over to Biden, and angrily yelled into his face, "No you idiot! Its Tony Blair!"

Is GCSD Finished With School Consolidation Changes?

I see from the Greece School District's website that applications for Schools-of-Choice & Secondary Option are being taken now. This brings to mind a number of questions, many leftover from the School Consolidation process. Among them:

  • What changes are being made to Pine Brook to balance that school's demographics & bring it in-line with other district schools?
  • Will the lottery continue to be a sham, or will we be able to see who the actual "winners" are this time around? If you are going to apply, then there should be NO reason to hide it, right?
  • Will 6th grade be starting at Olympia HS next year?
  • What measures do we have from this year's School Consolidation experience to use to evaluate whether changes made were for the better, or worse?
  • Have we "consolidated" sufficiently? How do we know?
  • WHAT is the purpose of a School-of-Choice?
  • How much extra does retaining Schools-of-Choice cost us?

Did You Get Your Request For $$?

Anonymous said...
Never let a scandal free opportuniy pass. Since nobody else was doing anything Mark Dobner, Gregg Evans, Ray DiPasquale and Paul Green of the Greece Uniform Patrolman's Association (That's a UNION folks) are grabbing THE CHANCE TO FURTHER FLEECE Greece taxpayers with their annual appeal for MONEY to pay for their Shop With a Cop media exposure opportunity.

The COP UNION has gotten together with the GCSD UNION and Union Member teachers will pick about 25 kids "who could use a little extra help".

Who says Greece Cops don't have guts? Did any of the 4 cops fronting this deal make less than $100,000 from taxpayers last year?

Has anyone ever seen an accounting of previous Shop With a Cop outings? How much was paid to who's wife to stuff the mailers in the envelopes and mail them?

Is this even a legal function for a Police UNION in NY State?   11/02/2012 12:46 AM

SCATS ~~ You've asked some EXCELLENT questions! I had no idea that Shop With A Cop was funded from this, but I have wondered exactly HOW the recipients are chosen. Is there a process that makes it fair for all? I've long suspected that favorites are chosen ... especially since there's no proof required to determine how much "help" any of the families need.
