Greece Voters Asked To Add Town Justice

Would cost approx. $90,000 for both an extra part-time justice’s salary and a new part-time clerk.

This addition is expected to significantly reduce police costs for prisoner watch overtime pay.

“Adding a fourth justice will reduce the time it takes to bring cases to a conclusion and bring justice to crime victims." ~~ Chief Todd

STORY

SCATS ~~ The need for this addition supports what we sense to be true: THERE IS MORE CRIME IN GREECE!

No one should be surprised given changes taking place

In the new residential turn over going on it will only get worse

This IS true but the real truth is concealed byGPD

The three justices serving us now are not for the victims at all. They are too busy schmoozing with the defense attorneys starting with Schiano all the way down to Nitti.

Anonymous said...

That's a very good investment on the part of Greece taxpayers.

It will allow the GPD to issue additional Town Traffic Tickiepoos and bring more money into the town treasury.

It might even cut popo overtime guarding prisoners waiting for a Judge.

It even creates a job for another halfass lawyer. Is Antelli's kid a lawyer now?

Ok who in the "party" needs a job? Be interesting to see who is initially appointed to this position!

Not to be cynical I think it is just a way for courts here to generate more revenue for Auggie, Notice that court revenue has declined in article.

SCATS said...

To 2:04PM ~~ Agreed!!

To 4:58PM ~~ Yes, I did notice that and wonder how that's possible given the rise in crime and efforts to ticket traffic/parking offenders.

Anonymous said...

Would this new Justice just be presiding over the arrested GPD officers?

SCATS said...

To 6:26PM ~~ Depends on the crime and WHERE it takes place. Sam Ross will be reporting to court in Irondequoit, because he is charged with only a misdemeanor and the alleged crime happened there.

Someone needs to preside over the judges sitting on the bench. You'd be surprised at the cases Nitti, Schiano and Vince make disppear because they are in the pockets of the defense attorneys. It pays to know a judge in the Town of Greece.

I have a question about where. The other day I was at the
Mall sitting in my car waiting for the wife. We were parked in an area far away from handy cap spots when Greece police car pulled up.The officer went to the car three spots away and put what looked like a parking ticket on the car.
I could not figure that out. my question is I saw nothing wrong with that parked car so why did it get a ticket.why?

Anonymous said...

Only violations, misdemeanor s and small claims appear in town courts.

Anonymous said...

It could have had expired registration or inspection sticker or both.

Anonymous said...

4:02 is right but those guys are not cops.Thet are public safety officers who ticket for violation of fire lanes and handicap parking and expired stickers.

Greece's famed WannaBe PD.
They get to ride around in pretend police cars, wear pretend Popo uniforms and portable radios and prove their parents should have employed birth control while generating income for the Town.
They get to blow whistles too.

The same group of dullards willingly stand in hot sun & freezing cold directing traffic for ZERO compensation, because they're so dumb they think they might be appointed a cop some day.

Note Greece's highly paid UNION Cops willingly defer these Peace Officer functions to the Corps of Pretenders.

Anonymous said...

9:35 The town employs two paid parking monitors for parking areas like the Mall . They are not the volunteer peace officers you speak of

Anonymous said...

You would be surprised by the revenue generated by these guys. The town budget line miscellaneous sources of revenue, contains a line item which includes ordanance violation anticipated funds, of which parking violations are outlined in this item as they are now ordinance violations.

Anonymous said...

@9:35. Wow, very insulting to people who volunteer their time to help. I see SCATS is back to allowing nasty comments on this site. Too bad.

SCATS said...

To 8:20AM ~~ While harsh, I think 9:35PM had a point to make. From my own experiences, I'm grossly under-impressed by the ability of these volunteers to even direct traffic! Flailing arms at people isn't giving direction.

Anonymous said...

Scats you sound like a conservative person. Which would you perfer in the situation you mention. A Paid .100 dollar an hour cop doing this function or a volunteer who does this for whatever reason he sees fit. In short, someone has to do it and better still if an officer has to be called in you are now looking at overtime at time and one half.
These people try hard and do a great service to the town and the taxpayers . They should be applauded for their commitment instead of the subject of trivial criticsim .

SCATS said...

To 11:16AM ~~ What I prefer is something in the middle. A person skilled at keeping traffic and/or crowds moving safely, possibly at a modest hourly rate of pay ;)

Not all "volunteers" deserve kudos! There are people who "try hard" ... then there are people who "do well." In this area, trying hard doesn't cut the mustard.

Anonymous said...

When you compare the performance of the Greece Wannabe PD with that of North Greece Fire Police you see NG come out on top for SKILL, RESPECT for the people they are helping, and doing so at minimal taxpayer cost.

When you look at the Wannabe PD you see a bunch of arrogant double barreled #%&*@! liners employing taxpayer funded fake Police vehicles, high dollar uniforms, police radios, and ATTITUDES based on their ability to SHOW THEIR POWER! The Town Highway Dept has wood barricades that direct traffic better, cost less, and probabyly have higher IQs. Wannabe PD was probably created from High School hall monitors that were released from school lockers. They ain't good enough to be cops, even in Grece, but they get to pretend and burn taxpayer gasoline.

Scatsyou are not being realistic. This is not a perfect world especiall y in this town. Your suggestion of a middle ground a blend of paid people and volunteers used to work years ago. Example our one time volunteer fire departments and ambulance services. At that time a blend of paid and volunteers , mostly volunteers, worked well. Our volunteer ambulances are. Almost 100% paid today as well as our fire departments, Thisis due to the lack of volunteers in these areas as well as some others, volunteerism is dead. Just ask at any fire station in Greece as well as other towns. There are many reason the least of which is the liability now attached to these positions. Our litigious society discourages participation . I still maintain given all of the above we are damn lucky yo have these people.

SCATS said...

To 12:54PM ~~ What the heck are fire police? Or was that a mistake?

SCATS said...

To 1:40PM ~~ I'm NOT suggesting volunteers of any kind for safety reasons ... unless some retired traffic cops want to volunteer.

"To 12:54PM ~~ What the heck are fire police? Or was that a mistake?"

Not getting out of the cathouse much he last few years SCATS?

The North Greece Fire Police are volunteers who are members of the Department who, after attending training classes, have been certified by the State of New York, the primary duties of a Fire Policeman are:
Directing, monitoring, and controlling the flow of traffic at fires, automobile accidents and other emergencies. The goal here is to permit all vehicles to quickly and safely exit the area with a minimum of inconvenience. We can also be occasionally called to neighboring communities to perform these duties.
Protecting Fire and First Aid Personnel, and maintaining crowd control at fire and accident scenes, and performing simlar duties at parades and special events within the community.
Assisting Police and Fire Department officials in the protection of the integrity of property and evidence at fire and accident scenes.
In carrying out our duties, we sometimes frustrate drivers who are attempting to travel through the area of an emergency. Our major responsibilities for providing safety for our Firefighters and Medical responders often requires that we detour or delay traffic. We ask that you understand and cooperate so that our volunteers can carry out their duties safely and quickly.
If you have questions at an accident or fire scene, we will assist you, but we ask you to pull out of the way of traffic, so that traffic is not blocked and it can be moved out of the area. In addition, we also ask you to signal if you want to turn left or right and to permit all emergency personnel with flashing blue lights to quickly enter the fire or accident scene; and most importantly, to proceed slowly and cautiously when there is an emergency in the area.

SCATS said...

To 12:07AM ~~ There are 4 different fire districts to keep tabs on in this town. Why is it that only NGFD has these fire police? Do the Greece Special Police undergo the same training, or vice versa, related to traffic control? Are we paying to train the fire police? Isn't that a redundancy?

Anonymous said...

I think most of us have a better understanding of the duties of Fire Police. It is abundantly clear that they are qualified and their duties to provide necessary assistance to ensure the safety of first responders as well as the safety of those in the vicinity At this point the only thing that is redundant is your negative nature of your comment.
12:07 good job and continue to provide these essential services in the interest of public safety.

SCATS said...

To 10:04AM ~~ Most of us? Who the heck are you including in that little club? lol

Abundantlt clear? Yet I've asked several people if they ever heard of "fire police" before and they haven't ;) lol

Please tell me what specifically is "the negative nature of my comment?" The fact that I dared to ask questions?? I know you boys in the firehouses don't like answering questions. You've grown used to taxpayers taking it up the keister without complaint, or accountability, for much too long ;)

Anonymous said...

Most. Of us would include those who read this site with the intelligence leveltounderstand the truth when they see
It. Not clones of the demeanor projected by this site, negativity. As to the question you ask your questionioning of the possible cost of training was plain and simple an attempt to deminish the facts so aptly explained by 10:04
Just because a few of your disciples never heard of this service doesnt mean they don't exist. I suggest that the next time you come across a bad accident or a working fire, you observe them in action. They won't be difficult to spot as they wear clothing with the words FIRE POLICE clearly visible as well as the same markings on their personal vehicles. Time to get out and about..

SCATS said...

To 1:06PM ~~ I'm glad I lack your "intelligence leveltounderstand." I don't need to "deminish the facts" when your inability to compose a few literate sentences does the job for me.

PS ~~ When near an accident or fire, I try to pay attention to other vehicles, pedestrians, etc. so as to not cause further trouble by trying to rubberneck the attire of the FD. I suspect they would appreciate that ;)

Anonymous said...

Scats. Might I suggest that you Goggle Fire Police of New York State. . In the process, learn something new and hopefully end this discussion . Just a suggestion.

Anonymous said...

Yup, when you don't like what a person has to SAY, you can always criticize his spelling/grammar!

SCATS said...

To 2:56PM ~~ I only go that route when someone tries to insult/attack me or someone else for their intellect, like in this case. If you are going to purport to be so darned "smart" then you best be sure you show it ;)

Anonymous said...

Trivia and denial is the apparent theme of this site and it's administrator. Why can't you accept the fact that there are people out here that know more than you. Why resort to pointing out typos to put someone down who disagrees with you. It is really beneath a person like you with an obvious high level of intelligence. I respectfully suggest that in my opinion, if yourself as blog master show a little humility and give credit to those who post that have knowledge of certain subjects that you do not. A simple Thank You would suffice. Just a suggestion.

SCATS said...

To 1:43PM ~~ Thanks ... I'll end the discussion when I'm satisfied with it.

To 3:33PM ~~ Why can't you accept the fact that insulting/attacking people, especially about their intellect, is NOT tolerated? Had the original comment poster NOT gone the route of making it personally insulting, it would be a different story.

Once again, those who post here have changed the subject from the topic posted to making it personal about the BLOG & BLOGGER. I'm sorry so many of you don't like HOW I do things ... but not really :) Instead of suggesting ways for me to do what I've had no trouble doing for almost 7 years now, maybe you could focus on bringing changes, instead of trying to murder the messenger.

What a joke you are the master of insults 2:56 is right when somebody one ups you you get out your red pencil. I don't mean this as an insult but were you ever a teacher ?

I have been watching and commenting on this site for most of that time. initially discussion concentrated on changes that would result in a better way to do things relative to our school district and town government. During that time I have watched as the original concept began to erode from a positive to a negative tone and unfortunately the negative tone continues to this day.
I think it's time to step back be objective and redefine the original concept of this blog site and it's original mission to bring about change through a thoughtful exchange of opinions and ideas.

The fire police squad is a place for the "old farts" to go when they can't be regular firemen anymore.
I'm sure they do a fine job, but they're not essential to the organization. Barnard and Greece Ridge have no "fire police" and get by just fine.
