Our Supt's Rapidly Rising Star ...

... Is A Man With A Past

Jeff K.Henley ~
Exec. Dir. of Instructional Technology & Strategic Initiatives,
Greece Central School District.

Before coming to Greece, Jeff was very involved:
"A member of the Rochester City School Board is claiming he is innocent of the driving while intoxicated charge he is currently facing. Democrat Jeff Henley was selected to join the board in February to replace Darryl Porter. Henley is also a teacher in Penfield. Police records show Henley was pulled over on Meigs Street earlier this month and was later charged with a misdemeanor DWI. The Rochester City School Board has not released a statement about the arrest." (rochesterathome.com )

Sadly, drinking & driving changed all of that:
"A Rochester School Board member has decided not to seek re-election.

Commissioner Jeff Henley told Rochester Democrats that he's declining their nomination. He said he'll serve the rest of his term and then leave the school board at the end of the year.

Henley was appointed to fill the remaining term of Commissioner Daryl Porter, who became assistant to Mayor Bob Duffy.

Henley said family committments and time pressure led him to drop out of the race. But he also received considerable media attention when he was stopped for driving while intoxicated just over a month ago.

Henley pleaded "not guilty" to that charge.

Monroe County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Morelle says the party has endorsed businessman Allen Williams as its candidate in Henley's place." ( wxxinews )

Just 1 year ago, he was merely our K-12 Coordinator for Social Studies

Today, Jeff is Bab's right hand man as the Executive Director of Instructional Technology & Strategic Initiatives. His bio fails to mention his stint on the Rochester City School Board. We can only guess why ... ?

SCATS ~~ A personal thank you to those who brought this information to our attention.

No background check done before hiring this guy?? I thought they were required????

SCATS said...

That's a very good question!

Anonymous said...

Well now isn't that just SPECIAL.

Let me think here, wasn't it just a little while back the Airport Director went for a little drunk drive and had her resignation on Maggie's desk in less than 72 hours?

Isn't there a big STEENK stirred up over the coverup of Reilich's kid drunk driving a town snow plow?

SO, why is this guitar playing bozo still on the public payroll?
Why is he special?

Lots of people have such issues, the questionis whether they are ongoing.

Anonymous said...

How does this crap continue to happen in our district? Our district's leaders don't even get things right accidentally. Other districts simply don't have these never ending issues. They may have something here or there, but our problems pop up weekly. It can't be just a result of our size.

SCATS said...

To 6:20AM ~~ SERIOUSLY!? So if we did that background check & knew he had a prior DWI, it's OK to take the risk of hiring him just to see if his problem is in the past?? What if he had killed someone? Or if he had one of his 4 kids in the car with him? At what point do we say "No thanks, I'll pass on that"?

I have a zero tolerance for drinking & driving (just like I have zero tolerance for mamby pamby liberal BS) because EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO DOES IT KNOWS THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW!!

No wonder GCSD is in such disarray!

Anonymous said...

I don't know what you intend to convey by namby pamby liberal bs
Perhaps alternate reality scats is blogging today. As far as I can see conservatives can be quite tolerant since they understand that human beings are imperfect and flawed. If you banned everyone who ever smoked grass from working, or those who abused prescription drugs (a growing problem) plus those with drinking problems you would disqualify a lot of people.

IF you go further and disqualified everyone who had a picture such as you show on the Internet somewhere then I'm not sure who would be left.

I can't say I know for sure where the line is, and I don't know much about this guy but I think the question needs more discussion than your dismissal implies. I think we need a little more information here before we tar and feather this guy, It may turn out he should resign but let's be more careful.

SCATS said...

To 10:45AM ~~ Of course you failed to respond to any of my questions, typical. It appears he left Penfield and Greece hired him not long after his DWI. I have a lot of questions about that. Were we aware of his DWI? Did we hire him anyway? Why would we want to hire someone with this issue? There is an inherent risk/liability in hiring such a person. Is this the kind of role-model we want for our students(he was a history teacher!)?

First it was the hockey coach, now it's this fellow. Greece Central appears to be putting out the message that we tolerate drinkers who break laws/rules. What's next? Drug addicts?

On the subject of hiring other districts broken toys, let us not forget the hiring of Steve ACHROMOVITCH who came to us with disturbing baggage from Ken-Ton.

during the interview process, he freely admitted several affairs with female employees even fathering a child with one. Inspite of this and over the objections of some board members and community members, the board majority voted to higher him regardless . An in your face move engineered by former supervisor and fifth grade teacher, Roger Boily.

If you should happen to run into Charlie Hubbard, he will freely admit his mistake in joining the Boily faction to hire this bum. So don't preach to us about role models as in comparison, some one taking a drink and driving pales in comparison to this womanizing moron who wasted no time wrinkling the sheets with a cabinet member shortly thereafter Scats: a wiseman once said "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."

SCATS said...

To 3:04PM ~~ What kind of wacky weed are you smoking that would make you believe: "some one taking a drink and driving pales in comparison to this womanizing moron..." ?

While I'm certainly NOT condoning womanizing behavior (and in fact I criticized Steve A for it), the comparison to a drunk driver is apples to bananas! A drunk driver VICTIMIZES the INNOCENT on the roadways, potentially causing injury/death. A womanizer seduces a cooperating partner, usually a woman over the age of consent who CHOOSES to "wrinkle the sheets."

I have no idea what you meant about casting the first stone since I seldom drink, never drive when I do and am happy in my family life.

"Today, Jeff is Bab's right hand man as the Executive Director of Instructional Technology & Strategic Initiatives"

In other words, Henley continues to do whatever Babs wants in return for the HUGE promotion he received as a reward for being her loyal lap dog during their first year together.

Anonymous said...

Comparing someone who risks the lives of others to a two-timing dork is really weak 3:04. This is definatly a cover up hiring. As many decent people who are qualified for these positions, yet you choose to sneak this one into the house? This looks really dishonest from the "down home, doors always open, ya'll come on in" Supt. Once again those in control spit on the trust bestowed upon them. It's basically the same thing that Rahn/Auberger did with Pignato. Bringing in a less than best employee, in exchange for unwavering loyalty. It is very telling!

Anonymous said...

your Babs just uses people and when she is done she destroys them so that they won't tell all the dirty things they did for her. He probably owes her bail money and will do the dirty deeds then use him for a scape goat. Karma is on the way soon. Won't be long before she gets her DWI either.

SCATS said...

To the person asking why I don't post about "my buddy" a former GCSD employee:
1 - in close to 7 yrs. of running this site, I don't recall EVER hearing about this event previously.
2 - it's been almost 20 yrs. (min.) since that could have happened. Why are you speaking up now?
3 - show me some solid PROOF and I'll look into it further, but not sure it matters this long after-the-fact.
4 - so who did the alleged legal manuevering? Papa bear? Or baby bear?
5 - I'll be willing to bet it didn't happen on the clock, right?

SCATS said...

To 7:42PM ~~ She's not "my Babs"!! I've never been her fan.

I can't help but wonder if they knew each other prior to his hire by GCSD ....? Or is it merely coincidental that they both landed here around the same time?

Anonymous said...

From what I've heard they didn't know each other previously but he's got his eyes set on bigger and better positions - likely a super position - and he has aligned himself with her. It's his first real admin job and he has fallen for her promises and claims of knowing the "right" people to help him get where he wants to go fast. Guess it's worked for him to this point.

Anonymous said...

**Note to SCATS - last post I made should be anonymous if it didn't come through that way - re: Babs & Henley...

SCATS said...

To 9:03PM ~~ Apparently it was fine ;) Just for the record, I can't change what you post or how. All I can do is post it, edit it, then copy & paste into my own comment and delete the original.

Anonymous said...

You state in your post that a year ago he was the Coordinator for Social Studies. Even more telling is that 13 months ago he was just a social studies teacher in Penfield and he only had summer school and intern admin experience. Now he has been fast-tracked. Interesting.

Upon completion of my thorough and complete investigation of the instant Henley situation as ordered by GCSD Administration I can say without question that Babs & Henley were neither members of the same sorority, appear to have never dated, and did not attend the same school in the same time frame.

Allegations of Henley participating in any pantie raid at Babs sorority house can not be substantiated.

Allegations Henley shipped a case of the good stuff to Babs in appreciation of his job appointment also cannot be confirmed.

Completion of tests with Henley indicate he can hit his ass with his hat 7 out of 10 attempts.

Pursuant to this investigation Henley appears to fill the job as he is told the job exists by Babs.

SCATS said...

To 10:08PM ~~ It wasn't until today that I learned he joined GCSD JUST 1 year ago. I admit, I'm even more stunned by his fast ascension to the top.

Anonymous said...

Smells just as bed as the GPD Gary Pignoto hiring a few years back. What other skeletons could be in this guys closet that we were never made aware of? The answer is that we don't know. It further brings into question anyone else that has slithered in under Babs' watch.

Scats my comment about drinking and driving was again taken out of context and personal by you. It was not. It was a general statement aimed at some of these hypocrites that

are posting on this topic as its a good bet most of them at one time or another took a sip and drove home.
Of course driving drunk is deadly, I was not defending that at all. My point was more of a character issue involving two former employees one of which held the to job. As someone earlier pointed out, if we disqualified anyone who ever bent an elbow and drove home who would make the cut ?On the other hand the character of our former Superintendant was well known and was still hired. This imposter who usedhis position to exploit female subordinates had flawed and Twisted.

character, one that could have cost the district in terms of a sexual Harrasment law suit not to mention the public scandal it would create to further blemish the districts already tarnished reputation.
This former principal is long gone and her recent action in no way effects our district.

SCATS said...

To 11:04AM ~~ Assuming you are referring to the comment posted at 9/27/2012 3:04 PM, I'm only taking "it personal" because YOU MADE IT PERSONAL! To quote your last sentence: "Scats: a wiseman once said "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."

You directed it at me BY NAME! How else would I take it??

Anonymous said...

11:04, as I asked earlier, with so many people qualified for such positions, why would a Supt. select one with this guys past? Let me answer that for you. It creates a situation which breeds potentially unhealthy loyalty. This is how those in Supervisory positions insulate themselves from potential pitfalls that could come with those positions. It's wrong, period.

Anonymous said...

Might I suggest that one of you go to a board meeting and ask her and the board to explain . I know for a fact that the board was not aware of these alleged facts about this guy. Then again why would they as they never ask questions. They simply rubber stamp what ever she does.
One fact might explain the hiring after a board meeting last year I had a conversation with DW. the subject of replacing retired are resigned administrators came up. she told me thatwhen she advertises these vacancies, no one applies. Makes sense to me. Who in their right mind would take a job in this dysfunctional school district and have to work with those incompetents on the third floor?

Charlie Hubbard said...

A quick note on the hiring of Achromovitch.
I would remind readers he was not our first choice but Mr. King (our first choice) changed his mind.
Some of us board members spent several hours in Kenmore talking to several employees of that district hearing none of the 'concerns' mentioned here. Yes lots of rumors. All board members attended the funeral home in Kenmore with the passing of his mother, meeting his family - this after his hiring - still no concern.
Frankly my bigger concern was having someone who would RESTORE the trust and integrity this district solely needed. Some of us were looking for Jesus Christ and as hard as we tried it turns out 'he' was not available. Turns out the desire to restore trust and integrity soon faded.

I know nothing of the hiring of this man. Ask for a copy of his job expectations and the measurements being used IF one exists. After all this is public education (monopoly).

SCATS said...

To 1:33PM ~~ Unless you are a BOE member, how can you say: "I know for a fact that the board was not aware of these alleged facts about this guy."?

By the way, I'm not sure WHAT the "alleged" part refers to since the articles I posted clearly state WHAT HE WAS CHARGED WITH. There was nothing unfactual or alleged about that ;)

Dave Garretson said...

I do not know anything about this person, but I am concerned to see so many negative comments about a single incident in his past. Was he convicted of the 2006 DWI charge? We don't know. Does he have a history of repeated offenses? We don't know. Is there any reason to question his competence at GCSD? We don't know.

I, too, demand a high level of competence and appropriate behavior from public employees and elected office holders. However, let's not form a lynch mob because somebody had a single indiscretion in their history.

Facts, please. Let's deal with the relevant facts.

SCATS said...

To Dave ~~ EVERY WORD I POSTED ON THE BLOG IS FACT. He was "charged with a DWI misdemeanor." Those sorts of charges are seldom just tossed about without just cause.

In addition, GCSD is a "zero tolerance" school district on the issues of smoking, drinking, drugs, bullying ...

We need role models for the students, not bad examples. The taxpayers deserve to know what they are getting. This guy came from Penfield as a HISTORY TEACHER just a little over a year ago and is suddenly one of our district's HIGHEST ADMINISTRATORS .. in charge of not one, but TWO key areas of concern: Technology & Strategic Framework.

District Office follows this site. They haven't disputed a single word.

Anonymous said...

Mr Hubbard , I must refresh your memory. I was a member of the interview team as a stakeholder. I remember two occasions when we all were made aware of Mr ACHROMOVITCH 's affair with a teacher inKenmore. The first came from the search consultant prior to Presenting ACHROMOVITCH to us.
I distinctly recall, and I still have my notes to prove it,one of the first things Steve talked about was his mistakes in Kenmore with a female teacher. Shortly after his presentation, we all compared notes with one and other and the general feeling in the room was this guy was a potential problem and should be rejected. This feeling was expressed by everyone in the group with one exception, YOU. According to my notes you found his confession to be an example of the highest integrity for admitting his indiscretions So please don't tell us you knew nothing about him , only rumors.
In the long run it matters not presently, but his hiring put this district in utter chaos for over three wasted years.

Dave Garretson said...

To repeat: Let's deal with RELEVANT facts.

The GCSD Code of Conduct addresses behavior ON SCHOOL PROPERTY or AT SCHOOL FUNCTIONS.

We may not care for an employee's past conduct away from the workplace, but it is not relevant to how they perform their job.

If there are valid concerns about how he is doing his job, or whether a personal situation affects his performance, that's different. Where is the factual basis to warrant such concerns?

SCATS said...

To Dave ~~ Whether or not a background check was done and what it did or did not show IS A RELEVANT FACT.

Dave Garretson said...

SCATS, It's a relevant QUESTION. We don't know the facts.

Do we know whether the appropriate checking done? Do we know what information is customarily checked for such a position? Do we know if this person is lacking in any way, on anything relevant to performance of his job? No, we don't. We don't know any of it.

Anonymous said...

SCATS is absolutely correct, what did the background check show, if anything. As to the Steve A. comments by the other poster, I would argue that he has been the best Supt. we've seen here in years, despite his being lousy. At least he stood up for what was right regarding coach Weber. Of course the BOE caved on the issue.

Anonymous said...

Is there a question on the application that pertains to charges/convictions?

Anonymous said...

Scats as blog master , I was addressing my comments to the attention of who ever you are. I'm sorry you feel that way. Not knowing who you are or anything about you , it would be presumptuous of me to indicate that you have indulged in such conduct . Your reaction sounds a bit thin skinned to me but who am I to judge someone I do not know ,.11:04

SCATS said...

Dave ~~ What that background check shows (IF IT WAS DONE ... maybe a very big "if" since this is Greece) are the FACTS that interest me. That aside, why is it that our Town & School District NEVER EVER seem to err on the side of logic, reason, caution, or common sense in these matters? Shall we start putting out the welcome mat for accused pedophiles, too?

In the hiring of this person, were the district's policies/procedures followed, or was this guy given the job because of who he knew, or how he could be used?? THAT IS THE QUESTION.

To 4:54PM ~~ THANK YOU!! Steve A. was absolutely right TWICE during his tenure here. 1 Firing Weber. 2 Eliminating West Ridge's kindergarten to reduce the budget.

To 4:58PM ~~ I'm not familiar with the application for a district administration position, so I can't say. Good question though.

SCATS said...

To 6:14PM ~~ You are amazing!!! You direct a comment directly to me by starting it off with "SCATS" then say I "took it personally" (DOH!!) and now are defending YOUR USE OF WORDS by calling me "a bit thin skinned." There ought to be an award given to people who so deftly dodge responsibility for messes of their own creation.

Anonymous said...

So going by Dave Garretson logic as long as he injured or killed someone while driving drunk away from the work place it is not relevant to how he is doing the job. I think a Superintendent just resigned because of something like this. Oh wait this is Greece!

Charlie Hubbard said...

to 4:05 (anonymous)
If you have notes from that far back - wow. I'm sorry but I do not remember Mr. Achromovitch being asked about an affair in the interview forum. I can't picture that happening. I also don't recall members of the community being involved in the final decission making.
You are correct that I was willing to overlook some things (what ever that means) but 'restoring TRUST' was number 1,2,3 on my list. I still to this day believe had he and some board members not started 'playing politics' he was a good choice.

Anonymous said...

Charlie, you and Mitt Romney have one thing in common. you are both flipfloppers. I was there as a district employee stakeholder Yes I was not present during board deliberations, but it was obvious to all that Steve was rejected in favor of King. Of course we will never know what position you took on King vs ACHROMOVITCH but it was clear the he was rejected in favor of King by a majority of the BOE. One thing I never could quite get straight in my mind is why when King backed out, you and several other board members, voted a short time later for a candidate that had been rejected initially by the board members. This never added up or made sense to me and other participants in the interview process.
In your response, you mention politics. You claim that politics interfered with his job. I have a slightly different slant on where the politics began. I believe that politics was involved in the hiring of this reject as evidenced by the hastily called meeting called to appoint him a week later which I attended. According to my notes, you were not there. However, one female board member stated after the vote was taken that if Charlie Hubbardbwas here,he would have voted to higher Steve. She was quickly ruled out of order as she could not speak for you. Yes I always take and keep notes. One never knows when they will come in handy. This guy was a mistake and you now know it.Admit it and show me that you possess the integrity that you claimed Steve had.

Anonymous said...

ScatsI will use ths logo when addressing you as you insist on your identity be tied to this blog name.
In my opinion you are a one dimensional personality . A very difficult person to deal with. Inspite of my attempts to right the record have been met with unusual defensive responses by you. I can only conclude that my comments have penetrated your thin skinned mentality. Given this along with your extreme defensive position, I will end my part of this discussion by saying, IF THE SHOE FITS, WEAR IT.6:14 Have a nice day.

SCATS said...

To 8:54AM ~~ Charlie Hubbard has already admitted that Steve A wasn't choice #1. There were only 3 choices (candidates) at that time. The third guy wasn't considered from as far as I could see, which was a shame (MY opinion). I thought & still do think GCSD missed the boat on not hiring him, just like a more recent BOE missed the boat on not hiring Dyce-Faucette. From my observations on hiring several supts. it seems most apparent that the LAST THING anyone in Greece Central wants (we're talking admin, teachers, BOE) is REAL CHANGE! So we keep hiring people who will rock the boat least ... even if they are rockin' the bed with multiple sheet wrinklers.

To 9:10AM ~~ The problem is, YOUR SHOE does NOT "fit" ME! But you keep trying to wedge it on because your one-dimensional view of others misses most of the important details. Please don't bother responding. I've grown bored sparring with you.

If you want your comments to see the light of day then you need to eliminate NAME-CALLING, BULLYING (especially aimed towards me ;), SWEARING, THREATS and use some common sense. I know that's a stretch (and a high standard) for a couple of you, but that's just how it is :)

Scats you are having a bad day. Perhaps some catnip might help along with changing your litter box. Also Mr Hubbard can speak for himself or has he deferred to you on this. Anyone who follows this site readily can see a strong positive connection between yourself and him. He is the only one on this site that has never been scratched by the CATS PAW.

SCATS said...

To 4:34PM ~~ I'm not having a bad day! I seldom have those :)

Regrding any "strong positive connection" with others who comment here ~ You claim I've "never" disagreed with him. Never is a very long, long time. It's almost as long as "ever" or "always". The truth is that I HAVE loudly disagreed with him on here about things LIKE hiring Steve A. If you re-read my earlier comment, you'll see that I said MY CHOICE didn't even seem to be considered by HMO, Walsh, Boily, etc.

Anyone know why Henley was transferred from his position as K-12 Social Studies Director to Director of Technology and Strategic Initiatives? Since he was a former social studies teacher, it seems strange that he would be moved out of that position after only a year. Did something happen?

SCATS said...

To 6:21 PM ~~ It sounds to me like our Supt took quite a liking to him ;)

When he left Penfield, he made $53,500 in 2011.

Greece gave him a salary of $77,000 in Aug. of 2011 to be the Coordinator of Social Studies for K-12 and The AVID Program. In June of 2012, they increased his pay to $89,000 to become the Interim Executive Director of Instructional
Technology & Strategic Initiatives. That's quite a jump in a short time, right?

Anonymous said...

I can only imagine what sort of raise BABS and the board will give him next year when he is no longer the interim. I am sure this move was only the first step. Must be nice. But 6:21 is right what experience does one have when they were merely a Social Studies teacher less than a year ago. Why is it the board goes along blindly with these crazy promotions just because they are suggested by administration? Why don't they have the spine to ask why this would happen. Back to how it used to be they just rubber stamp whatever is desired by the Super regardless of how insane and possibly undeserved it may be. Let me guess Assistant Super next year, no questions asked by anyone. I thought things were supposed to be different. Not many in the community believe that after moves like this.

SCATS said...

To 12:27AM ~~ I agree. I want to know what background he has to bridge that gap from Social Studies to Technology guru. This BOE discusses nothing, not before, not during and not even after they make their decisions. Maybe it's to hide their incredible lack of insight, knowledge and wisdom?

Barbara, it this the best you can do? This YO looks like he needs a hot bath, haircut, shave and a delousing before having any contact with the student body. We already had drinking and bad deportment with one of the coaches why take a chance with someone who has exhibited documented poor judgement. I just paid my school tax bill and I resent every dime of it because I know that it goes to support this kind of stuff. Barb ask yourself if your husband would have hired this guy to work for him. I think that you know what that answer is. Come on now admit it.
