Won't Address Change Create Confusion?

Earlier this year, we heard all about how concerned Ridge Rd. Fire Chief Bud Phillips (and his underling Sean McCabe on the BOE) became when Greece Central announced they wanted to change the names on several schools. He worried there might be some "confusion" if emergency callers used the "old names" when reporting fires or other emergencies to 911 at the impacted buildings. Example, Apollo would become Odyssey Academy and a caller might refer to it as Apollo still. Or that responders might go to Hoover Drive instead ...

Now, we actually DO HAVE a reason to be concerned about calls for emergency services to the old Barnard School building, but Bud Phillips seems totally unconcerned. Greece Central School District waved their magic wand and PRESTO CHANGO, Barnard School's address suddenly changes from 71 Maiden Lane to 588 Stone Road!

Currently, if I call in a fire or other need for emergency services and they pull up to 588 Stone Road, what will they find? Merely a path that leads from Stone Road and cuts behind the building through to Maiden Lane - the street the building actually fronts!

I pity the poor person/s who potentially purchase this property. If they want to have deliveries made, they will need to instruct the carrier that they must enter from Maiden Lane, not Stone Road. Or will they be allowed to change the address back to Maiden Lane? If they do, will it lower their assessment? Will this confusion affect the cost of their insurance? Will customers have problems locating the building? Will they park illegally when they can't locate a lot from the Stone Rd side?

The biggest question of all: Will the charade of changing the address allow GCSD to unload this decrepit building more easily & for more money? Time will tell, but I'm not feeling optimistic.

yawn, another non-issue blown out of proportion.

If there is ever a fire at Barnard I say let it burn. In fact poor gas on it . And while your at it, torch the rest of that part of town. Insurance would generate more cash than a sale in that ghetto would bring. Watch out for HUD.They have a habit of scooping up such properties and convert them into low income housing.

To 2:31PM ~~ We do NOT promote or support criminal activity here.

Your point about HUD is worthy of consideration.

I was just being sarcastic 2:31

Anyone who would purchase this property without seeing i and checking on its placement on the property would deserve being surprised.

To 1:58PM ~~ That's what you ALWAYS say, yet you return time & time again with a need to add to the commentary LOL

To 4:12PM ~~ The point is, why change the address just before trying to sell it? Will it command a higher pricetag listed as Stone Rd? Or is this just window dressing in a way that really makes no sense after all? Oh wait, we have a track record of worrying more about the image than the reality ;)

Ask GCSD how many thousands of dollars it cost to have emergency services change the addresses for Apollo to Odyssey, Parkland to West Ridge, West Ridge to the Alcott Road Facility.

To 6:49PM ~~ You are suggesting the school district had to pay to change the bldg names? I saw no reference to anything like that, not even in the notes detailing Bud P's issues with it all. How much did it cost? To whom was payment made?

Please tell us more.

I suspect the address change was exactly for the reason you suspect, SCATS. It might generate more interest from potential buyers who want it for business (Stone Rd) than for residential (Maiden Ln)

To 7:52AM ~~ We shouldn't have to "suspect" or surmise. This definitely should have been discussed in public. Oddly, the change of address didn't seem to be an issue or even on their radar back when they were changing building names & the FD was having a fit over the changes.

I wonder where the gym is now that this building is for sale? What about all of the items being stored there? They JUST moved the contents of OA's library to that location in mid-June. Now they are moving those books again?

It will be interesting to see how long it takes before the real estate listings show up.

Just as a point of interest it was Chief Phillips who was concerned of the name changes. The address change of the Barnard School is in in different Fire District than his.

To 2:32PM ~~ I'm fully aware of that. The POINT is, the address change wasn't an issue or ever mentioned in the documentation associated with the school name changes which was vetted with lawyers & others. This address change thing came up more recently.

Kirk Rd is now a district storage facility in addition to Barnard. Lots of stuff there including the disabled elevators that Walts bought and never installed them. I don't understand why the district has not even attempted to sell them along with 200,000 worth of electronic television equipment. This stuff is state of the art and contains 3 brand new TV cameras. Of course they are all located in the stealth facility attached to library at Olympia. This was listed in the 2000 CIP as a "Media Center" on the district brown sheet of planned Capital Improvement Plan. Another Walts lie at our expense on his way to a WORLD CLASS SCHOOL DISTRICT. What a joke !!!!

To 3:25PM ~~ I haven't asked in awhile ... has ANYONE EVER ACTUALLY SEEN the piano stored in a temp/humidity controlled room? ANYBODY??

Does all that equipment really exist? If so what is wrong with these board members for not telling BABS to sell it. This district is run by pack rats. They hoard things that will never be used for the purpose they were intended.

Call the board members and insist on their sale. If they are lucky enough to sell these buildings, where are they going to store them. I smell another building addition down the line for this purpose at our expense of course.
