A Very Good Point

Sorry but if she's not willing to press charges then she should not take any money that people are giving.   6/21/2012 1:59 PM

SCATS ~~ I couldn't agree more! If we don't want this whole thing swept back under the rug, Klein needs to press charges. If Klein couldn't see and/or hear what was said, then how could she be of any use on this bus? Are we paying her to ride, or to work?

District Office needs to come up with a list of punishments that relate to various infractions of the Student Code of Conduct, so everyone knows what they are and how they will be applied in the future. We also need to be told what the SPECIFIC duties/expectations are for a bus monitor and bus driver. We need to know the EXACT procedures that should have been followed that day.

I don't believe people are donating so that she presses charges, they most likely are donating to her for what she endured.

Given the lengthy track record of an unnamed police department of intimidating victims, and the allegation one of the Delinquents is the child of a cop, one has to ask what pressures are being applied to Karen to let the Disfunction District handle the matter?

Karen can obviously be intimidated.

The DA's office is staying very clear of this criminal situation for some odd reason.

methinks the brown on the sneaker ain't chocolate pudding!

Scats the truth is that district policy forbids physical conduct by drivers and monitors unles.s it's in defense of their own lives. Also the use of inappropriate language is,a firing offense. These folks know this as do the little monsters on the bus. All they have to do is violate thes.e restraints and they will be terminated before the bus gets back to barn. These perpetrators get on their cell phones and call mommy and tell her that the bus driver or monitor swore at him or her, Mommy of course picks up the phone and calls Transportationndemanding satisfaction and they are accommodated by firing the employee on the say so of the monster on the bus. To answer your question YES we are literally paying these monitors to go for a ride as they are given no authority to enforce code of conduct. They are instructed to write referrals which end up in then the nearest circular file.
Lonsberry got it right. Our administrators are gutless cowards. Therin lies the major problem concerning discipline in our schools

Give me a break! This money was set up for a donation to Karen from people who felt sorry for her and wanted her to have a vacation of a lifetime.
There were no small print saying, Karen, you must press charges to receive this money now that we seen how much money it is.

You all disgust me!!

Do you really think that these kids are going to get away with this without recourse from their peers and family?

She's almost 70years old. If she doesn't want to press charges, she should not be 'bullied' into it. As far as the money, its NOBODY'S BUSINESS what she does with it..is there stipulations on the money? If not, none of anyones business.

SCATS said...

To 4:22PM ~~ I never suggested that these kids be sworn at. Talked to? Yes. Ordered to hush it up? YES!! Sworn at? NO!!

Anonymous said...

3:34 these kids are 13 yrs old and are consider juries. For you information, DA does not prosecute juvenile offenders unless it rises to the level of a capital crime.Juvies are dealt with by the Family Courts. Incidently, The D A. Prosecutes cases brought to them by the appropriate law enforcement agencies involving Individules above the age of 16 yrs unless given juvenile offender status up the age of 19 yrs.by family court judges.

In-school suspension for next year. Loss of bus/sports until they petition to have privileges back perhaps with tons of community service. Whatever punishment, it should follow them to any school they attend in fall- i know it won't but it should!

I wish she would press charges but that is not the reason people gave her money! Sometimes the best you can do for someone is TO PRESS CHARGES!

Anonymous said...

I also find the donations odd. Money will not solve the problem

SCATS said...

To 4:31PM ~~ Do you think the person who set it up expected her to become wealthy? Or take a vacation? Obviously, $400,000+ (current figure) is well beyond the realm of a vacation!

To Kathy Burnett ~~ It's posted on a PUBLIC WEBSITE & subject to tax! It's the topic of national newscasts! Of course it's public knowledge & subject to public opinion. Your other comment won't be posted because it was bullying towards the blogmaster.

To 6:35PM ~~ It would be a huge teaching moment if she did!

I'm sure GCSD has told her that it would be in her best interest NOT to press charges. It happens all the time in Greece and has for years. Let it slide under the rug and keep your mouth shut or your fired.

I do feel bad about the way Karen was treated but when I first saw there was a Site for donations to raise $5000 for a vacation, I thought that was nice. Now that the amount is over a quarter of a million dollars I don't agree with the donations. This was her job. I have worked at a job where I got sworn at, ridiculed and even physically assaulted. It went with the job. I didnt get any money for performing my job.

SCATS said...

To 7:03PM ~~ I suspect you are right, sadly. Perhaps GPD told her that too.

To 7:23PM ~~ Someone messaged me that people feel helpless but want to do something, so they open their wallets. The thought was nice (initially as it relates to a vacation) but making her a "lottery winner' is way over the line. Maybe she'll take the $5000 hoped for and donate the rest to anti-bullying campaigns on a more global level. God knows that in Greece corruption would ruin it.

I live in Greece and hopefully Karen can retire with all that money so tax payers don't have to pay for her salery anymore. Yes the kids were disgusting and if that was my mother I might end up in jail but paying someone to do a job they can't handle is just cazy. I forgt we are talking about Greece just look at our leaders if you can find them.

SCATS said...

To 7:45PM ~~ In the words of a former BOE member, if you can fog a mirror you get a raise. I think you can also get hired into a job that has no known specified requirements. DYSFUNCTIONAL!

Anonymous said...

Saw her slip out the front door of Apollo to an awaiting car while the media were in the back of the building (where the enterence to the D.O. is). Wouldn't want to speculate why.

Anonymous said...

The district should suspend the kids for a year and remove their bus privileges permanently. Get a ride.

Anonymous said...

I thought they had video cameras on the buses? Is'nt that how they caught the child molester on the bus at EV so the district could press charges. Oh wait, they swept that one under the rug too.

SCATS said...

To 11:40PM ~~ I like Klein's idea about NO BUS RIDES, NO SPORTS. I'd add NO EXTRA-CURRICULARS too. One year of sacrifice seems about right.

Anonymous said...

If you suspend them for a year, the tax payers have to pay for a special tutor for them. Make the parents drive them to and from school for a year, they go to the IS room and stay there, only leaving for a class. No exceptions. They can eat lunch there too. If Mom and Dad don't like it, they can pay for them to go to a private school. Enough is enough. Time for people in this town to be held accountable.

SCATS said...

To 1:49PM ~~ Accountability is the cure for dysfunction. It will never happen.

I believe it is essential that the school district press charges against these children. Ms. Klein was an employee at the time of the incident. It should be an expectation that the school district support and protect their employees during the execution of their duties.

To 4:22PM ~~ I agree 100%! Anything else is just lip service about being serious regarding discipline.

After being hailed by everyone for being a gracious hero! Now that money has entered the picture, some of you including Scats to some degree have now made her the problem. Comments like why are paying her to do a job that she is physically not able to do.Why are we paying for her to go for aride when she is hearing impaired have replaced the out pouring of support on this site. The answer is simple and is called envy . Why the change of heart by some? It can be summed up in one word MONEY. Some of you people are pathetic to the point of making one sick.

To 9:27AM ~~ Gimme a break! lol If you knew me, you'd realize how ridiculous that charge really is! lol

The REALITY here is that a kind gesture to get the woman a vacation of a lifetime has turned into a situation where EVERYTHING spun out-of-control for ALL involved (and a few who weren't, like that 5th kid whose name was tarnished), including Klein & the guy who started raising money.

A very smart cookie who is a district employee explained something to me that I hadn't realized about WHY everyone is throwing money at Klein: They watch the video. They are disgusted by what they see. They feel helpless, BUT they want to do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to show they care. So, unable (or unwilling?) to do anything meaningful, they salve their own tortured souls as they throw money at it (the issue). In doing so, they feel better. Klein gets rich overnight for enduring 15 minutes of mostly verbal abuse.

Don't get me wrong. These brats were way out-of-control, over-the-line, etc!! If one were mine, he wouldn't be sitting down for a week, but he wouldn't need to because I'd haul his sorry ass over to her house for a face-to-face apology ASAP and the offer to be her personal servant for the summer: mowing, weeding, washing windows, waxing her car, painting ... A sincere written public apology including specifics about what he did wrong and what he SHOULD HAVE DONE INSTEAD (this is the TEACHING MOMENT) would be given to any media willing to take it for publicication.

The jackpot raised on Klein's behalf strikes me as very much like what juries do in our litiginous society: Feeling helpless to "right" a terrible wrong, they award HUGE amounts of money. It solves & resolves NOTHING, but the lawyers make out like bandits and the jurors "feel better." The underlying problem remains ... until the next "victim" is brutalized.

I'm hoping that Klein MIGHT decide to share some of her new found wealth with an organization that will actually DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL ... maybe one that fights elder abuse. In the end, this woman was sexually harrassed, taunted about her age, her physical appearance, her "disability" (hearing aids), etc. I can't help but wonder if GCSD might get in trouble with the Feds after this.

Not true Scats. I draw your attention to another thread on this subject where you said"unless she presses charges she shouldn't get the money. not so ?

Ah Scats that' s BS And you know it. I will bet that very little of those donation came from people from Greece who have no stake in the goings on in Greece. Also, most of them never knew the Town of Greece existed before it became a national and international disgrace. You tell me what
someone in Australia feels guilty about his inability to do something about a problem that is half way around the world. Take it for what it is, an out pouring of support world wide for a person they don't know and felt her pain and opened their hearts and check books as an expression of human sympathy for what she endured, it's really what It is all about.
As for your psychologyical diagnosis goes you are right in one aspect of giving under these circumstances and it is not guilt but the positive feeling a giving person gets
By reaching out to another human being,
By trying help another human being.

To 11:30AM ~~ I'm not sure what you are saying is "untrue." THIS PARTICULAR BLOG is about a comment where someone posted: "Sorry but if she's not willing to press charges then she should not take any money that people are giving."

SCATS responded by saying: "I couldn't agree more! If we don't want this whole thing swept back under the rug, Klein needs to press charges."

The KEY WORDS in the first comment were "ANY MONEY." I believed that comment was written in reference to the hoped for $5000 goal when I wrote that BLOG. I was responding in kind.

SCATS said...

To 11:52AM ~~ BS? Really? You need to reread what I wrote a few times AND actually THINK before putting fingers to keyboard. Nowhere did I use the word "guilt" or "guilty." Perhaps you are projecting your own guilty feelings onto/into MY response ...?

Do contributors feel sorry for her? I'm sure many do. Would contributions of their time & energy to an organization that works to prevent bullying, some sort of abuse, etc. be an appropriate and more meaningful response? I think so! BUT THE TRUTH IS, it's MUCH easier to give money than to give time helping correct one of the world's ills.

By the way, I'll bet you'd gladly stand in front of the flagpole at Town Hall and let people verbally abuse you for 15 minutes if someone would just videotape it, post it to Youtube, alert the media and start a fund to send you on a nice vacation ;)

If my comments upset you so much, you better not read this:

Why waste a nice afternoon. You could just be a democrat (or just not a republican) and go speak at a town board meeting Then let Auberger attempt to abuse you. The bullying attitude starts at the top in Greece.

Scats your comment amaze me but Thet don' t botherme either.I just consider the source and apply the proper weight. However on this note I seemed to have struck a deep nerve.Me thinks thou protests to defensively.Never before have I seen you right what amounts to an essay in defense of your position.
I know this is your site and you have every right to say what you want but so do others. Never once have you ever so much as hinted that you might be wrong,C'MON nobody is perfect neither your or myself. Will you at least give me that?

SCATS said...

To 2:13PM ~~ Excellent point! LOL

To 3PM ~~ Struck a deep nerve? Not really. You just caught me at a time when my many thoughts had already gelled about this via several Facebook debates this past week. In fact, it was yesterday afternoon that some uninformed person attempted to engage me in this exact same argument. Thank God for copy & paste :)

FYI, over the years, I've written many essays in the form of the actual BLOGs I post! You might want to check the archives.

Of course I'm not perfect. I've admitted mistakes on the infrequent posts where I've made them. I've even taken the time to correct them ;) You see, I try to engage my brain BEFORE putting fingers to keyboard. I also do research, compare media reports, etc. because I like KNOWING what I'm talking about. Just because you can't see what I'm saying doesn't make me wrong ;)

Anonymous said...

Out of your own mouth or to exact fingers is the problem with this blog site. When you first started this site, you would put up topics allowing bloggers an opportunity to engage each other with varying opinions on the topic. As I recall you occasionally chipped in a comment or two on the topic.
Over time, you have used this site as a bully there's that word, pulpit of sorts by humiliating those you do not agree with. People who used to post on this site agree with that and no longer even read this site let alone post because of your know it all attitude you project on this site. If they are not on your side of a topic you have a subtle way of putting them down. They say what's the use it's his or her way or no way
I have hands on information that another blog site will be up and running very soon with a blogger friendly atmospher. It will be interesting for sure

To 6:41PM ~~ BRING IT ON :) The more the merrier!

For all of the threats about people no longer reading SCATS, somehow the BLOG clicked over HALF A MILLION pageviews last week ... but they only cover a few years of the BLOG's existence.

In one week, there have been over 12,000 pageviews, hundreds of comments posted and much more discussion on Facebook.

Don't forget, ALL OF THIS has been accomplished without ever collecting ONE RED CENT of money, too.

Do I have strong opinions? ABSOLUTELY! Do I anger some readers? POSITIVELY !! But in the end, most who threatened to go away keep coming back, just like you ...

I think Lonsberry, Limbaugh and others with strong opinions have probably heard similar threats and complaints, but they are still going.

SCATS said...

Oh ... one more thing ... I added a lot more followers on Facebook again this week, many of whom are district employees. Their message: they AGREE with a lot of what I stated. Imagine that ...

When your the only game in town people who have opinions have no other options, Greece Schools web sight
Disappeared because posters had to ID themselves. Your site allowed just the an alternative that was More attractive and less risky. don't get me wrong, that is a ligitatmate concern especially in this town. Your site does attract reasonable people with strong opinions and positions on issues. This where the problem with your format is when your personsal biases that don't square with those biased feelings comes across loud and clear in your rebuttals .
Comparing yourself with Limbough and Lonsberry is laughable at best. Your " BRING EM ON " is more in more in line with G W Bush and we all know the consequences of that kind of bravado. Let's see if history repeats itself concerning the specter of serious competition

SCATS said...

To 9:49AM ~~ The only game in town??? Seriously??? There are TONS of options!! Every news outlet from the D&C to Greece Post to TV stations has a Facebook page. Most all of those also have their own websites where at least some stories have space for comments.

Any idea how many other BLOGS & Bloggers have come & gone since I kidnapped the original CATS site late one night 6+ yrs. ago? Let's see ... the D&C had some success off & on, but now that they want paid access to their website, they've killed it pretty good. They even had a specific BLOG for Greece. But their mamby pamby topics & goody-two-shoes approach to salve the ruffled feathers of politicians didn't attract opinion, it prevented it. Then there was Dave Garretson's BLOG. Personally, I was sad to see him stop so soon. Then there is the infamous RJ BLOG. There was some other BLOG with a name I can't recall that started and stopped within a few weeks. There was the site you refer to, but he killed it by pandering to hiding the identities of some based on rules that were as unclear as the GCSD disciplinary code. Rochester Turning is still around ... sorta ... Maggie finally cleaned up that other political site (whose name escapes me right now).

I think you have completely overlooked the bigger issue: who in their right mind is going to put forth the time, energy, resources, etc. required to do this for the long term and FOR FREE? There are risks involved and editorial decisions that must be made that will only serve to enrage one side or another no matter what is said or done (thus my reference to Limbaugh & Lonsberry, both of whom are controversial at times. I never said I'm "like them' in terms of fame, etc.).

Like the saying goes, you can't please everyone.

"BRING IT ON. The more the merrier :)"

Has nothing to do with Geo Bush or any sort of bravado. I look forward to having more options.
