That's A Good Question!

Hey Todd Baxter and John Auberger, how much is this comedy act called Special Police costing Greece Taxpayers?

Tonight, for about the third time this year, we watched the Wannabe PD block off the Northwest end of town so a bunch of people could run on the streets and screw up traffic.

I counted at least 6 police vehicles running to maintain the Air Conditioner so Wannabe Officer Wassisname could be comfortable. What did that cost?

Another thing, what the hell authority do these less than security guard qualified people have to block a County Road?
Why does the road have to be blocked for an hour before the first dreamrunner shows up?

Move this crap over to Barnard and see how people living there like being told they can't go home because the road is blocked for a runner. See how long your wannabe cops survive in Barnard.

Why can't the so called runners run around Grace & Truth Sport Park a couple laps? Run on the damn sidewalk, roads are for vehicles!    6/08/2012 11:43 PM

I know it's frustrating but once these organization, usually for charity people apply for and are granted a permit by the town, for safety purposes they are entitled to traffic detail provided by the town to close off roads granted in the permit.
The special police are non paid volunteers. The only cost incurred by the town is the cost of fuel. They get their authority to stop and direct traffic under NY S law and the town.
The alternative would blow your mind regarding the cost to the taxpayer.Absent these volunteers, the GPD would be obligated to provide the detail .And since the department must maintain enough man power to deal with normal daily functions,Cops would be called into work and would be paid time and a half for overtime. So how does four or five regular cops earning in excess of 150 bucks an hour grab you How would you feel about that as compared to probably less then 50 bucks worth of gas to idle the cars to run the air.

Why not follow what the City does. charge the race organization for the overtime for some Real Police, who know what they are doing with the traffic.

To 10:44PM ~~ I like your idea! I suspect that the powers-that-be will be opposed though because then GPD loses bragging rights about having dozens of "volunteers."

Then you would all complain they are padding their pension's.

Is the few times a year this happens really that big a deal?

12:41. Right on!! It would seem that nothing will satisfy this group of winers and complainers on this site and possibly a larger segment of this town. They love to complain about the way this town has operated for years. Then, when they have a chance every two years to do something about it they keep the same people in office.Only in Creece!!!

SCATS, the idea at 10:44 is terrible. The result would not be better cops but fewer events. We are not the city, we cannot afford what they can afford. Our events are necessarily smaller, therefore they must also be less expensive, or else they won't happen at all. We have to rely on volunteers (and ought to be grateful for their service) rather than hire professionals. Those who want more knowledgeable volunteers should recruit some, starting with themselves.

To 6:21PM ~~ Maybe we don't need so many of the same types of events ...?

Tell you what you people who think it's a minor inconvenience can feel free to send me 2 bucks for gas to drive around these fools on foot. There is no damn reason I or anyone who lives on North Greece should have to park and walk home or drive 5 miles around and wait for the runners to get the hell out of my way.

They want to run on the damn road they can mount a license plate on their ass. That road is for vehicles, paid for by vehicles. Pedestrians have sidewalks and they can use them.

If they don't like that they can use some of their abundant energy they need to run off building a track around First Bible's property that doesn't pay 1 cent of taxes even though the North Greece side is a very productive money making athletic facility.

Why the hell are all these so wonderful cause related races in North Greece with roadblocks conveniently just beyond Antelli's Plaza?

And another thing, Spandex is a PRIVILEGE, not a lard containment system. The way some of them creatures look a Spandex blowout could be a full HazMat Response. Young boys sitting at home shouldn't see such things!

SCATS, it's not about need, it's about community. Read the comments of the critics, not for content but for tone and spirit. They're all individualistic, all about their own personal inconvenience. Living in community means putting up with your neighbors in good humor, even when they inconvenience you.

11:36 Post your address and I will be glad to send 2 bucks It would be worth if it would stop your bitching.

Community my butt!

It's all about a bunch of people living in overcrowded high density housing feeling entitled to impose themselves on other people to satisfy their desire.

The North Greece area gets to "host" the fireworks show, 4 or 5 runs a year, and we are even privileged to pay for the streetlights in the rest of Town while we have a mere handful of streetlights.

Individualistic, you can bet your sorry butt I am. This individual pays a hell of a lot of tax money on agricultural land to cover the cost of high density dwellers, and now you want to use my area as your playground.

This crap is freaking embarrassing . I hope people from other parts of the county don't know about this outrageous site and some of the statements made by the residents of thistown .If by chance they do then they got to think Greece is a bigger joke than they thought.

To 7:29PM ~~ There are some long time fans from out-of-state. Feel free to crawl under the nearest rock ;)

9:28, how about you post your address so I can bring my boy & his friends over to shut the street down and run their quads for a couple hours?

There is plenty of space for people to run around the perimeter of Town Hall, 1st Bible Baptist, and town parks. WHY do these people have to run on the road and block traffic?

Get them off the road and there is no need for the Pretend PD to burn gasoline protecting runners either.
Running on grass might even prevent injury to the runner.

There's even an indoor track at Town Hall so the runners can warm up. WHY do they need to block County Highways?

The question is why is North Greece the only place runners seem to be able to run? Is the population density in the Northwest corner of Town considered to be so low it won't matter come election time?

To 1:02AM ~~ Actually, I do think there was a run, or maybe it was a "walk" on Maiden Ln from Olympia HS this spring, too. I do understand it sounds like your area has had tosuffer through more than their fair share of this do-gooder stuff.

1:02. I am willing to bet that your son and his friends run their quads all over your neighborhood regardless. So it will be just fine with me if you keep them there. I am sure your neighbors arn't amused either. I still got the two bucks but is looks like it's really not about the money and more about hippocracy on your part.

You're absolutely right about the boys riding those quads all over the neighborhood. We own, lease and pay taxes on over 600 acres, and those quads are farm equipment. They are ridden on our land and that of some neighbors, and the boys carry written permission to ride on land we don't own or lease.

The boys just want the experience of riding in an over populated high density living situation. If you have a daughter over the age of 14 they'd be more than willing to give her a ride. We figure it'd be the community thing to do, and we'll even do it for a good cause.
