I agree it's way too late to remove it. However I believe it would be up to the monitor to decide. In her shoes I would want it to stay. It allowed her community to come out in force to support her and condemn the ones involved. It will be much harder for these children not to be punished if the parents don't share in the embarrassment. And lastly it depict Karen as a typical person putting up with cruelty and doing it with maturity. I love her all the more. There's nothing here to be embarrassed about. She is a lovely woman and everyone knows it!

You know that is so freaking unbelievable. My kids go to that school and they say it is like that on many buses. My response is, I for one will not be one of those parents who will stick up for you if you disrespect your bus drivers or monitors.
They should go back to when the bus drivers had enough say to tell the parents your kid is on strike 3, have fun taking the brat to school from now on.

That one little brat who is touching the monitor, well he be worth me loosing my job if I saw him pulling that stuff.

I am totally outraged at those little freaken spoiled brats. If one of your kids were part of this, then I hope you are happy for the great values you have taught your children.

This is all about parenting and the lack of respect these parents now a days have for themselves and others.

take away school bus rides for these little animals. Parents of these kids should be delivering them to school daily and bringing them in to sign at the security post every single day.
Make things intolerable for the brats and the parents who allowed these brats to be like this.

Does anyone know where GCSD gets its bus monitors? Is it a volunteer position, or an additional duty for district staff, or what?

Looks like the district might need some help keeping order on its buses. How can interested parties help?

When I went to school, I was a bully too but most of the time I turned on my peers and protected people like this woman and the slower kids that were dubbed boces back then. My parents taught me how to respect older people, kids with disabilties and weaker kids from the kids who have no morale insights at all.
These kids and their parents need to be taught a serious lesson and the lesson should not stop with the legal aspects.
The Greece school and transportation should both react with punishment.
Policy's at transportation and at the Schools should change to work closer together with the trouble makers and get them away from other students. Send these bad A__ kids to some Rochester City Schools for a year, lets see how really bad they are!!

Where are Babs and Chief Todd??? They dispatch Hoecht and Chatterton to deal with this...while the video and story have gone Viral and Global. Australian news has picked up the story. Give us some Leadership. I am very very disappointed.

To 4:37PM ~~ They are paid positions.

Does anyone twitter? I don't but this should be shared on Nancy Grace twitter page....I am concerned that there will be a cover up. From what I know as of now it is heading that way. Anyone that can share with news outlets via Twitter this will continue the word. We need to come together as a community and stop this in our schools and busses! No more bowing to helicopter parents and precious little darlings!

BDW was in a meeting all day....care to guess where?

For those that are out of the loop, many monitors, food service worker and aides are treated with little of no respect. Not the level of this abuse but still abused verbally and even at times physically.

Anonymous said...

I would like to know if anyone is doing something for this poor woman. If someone is, please let the community know, because many of us would like to help in any way we can.

To 6:35PM ~~ there is one (or more) websites taking donations. I just checked & it's over $43,000 but started hoping to raise $5000. Making her wealthy isn't the right message or response, in my opinion.

Monitors are paid, they apply for this position and apparently make nothing compared to what is really due to them for this kind of work.
That be the day I get 10-13 dollars an hour to put up with that abuse on a daily routine. You react and the Greece Transportation Dept. turns on you because one of these whinning childrens parents would call in and say that their child's feeling were hurt when you told them to be quiet.
Did you know that these buses already have cameras on them that record picture and sound. Did you know how many monitors or drivers have lost their jobs over these abusive brats who tell their parents and they call transportation over the brutal words or touching of their children.
The Greece transportation dept. does not back their employees. They are worried of having law suits from parents. We parents should be disgusted on what we have done.
If I had time to sit next to each and every Mother of these so called children, I would have their mother's in tears in seconds. I would make sure it was videoed and sent out on the intranet for everyone to view.
Kids, how the hell will you feel now seeing your own Mothers abused like the way you abused this poor lady.

You and your parents are pathetic.

There will be no cover up of this. The word of the day is "VIRAL" !

Not only did these dumb kids abuse this poor woman they video it and sent it out on the intranet.

These kids have screwed themselves beyond any bad dream they have ever had before! The best part is that they took their parents down with them.

Future bus rides in Greece will be much different from this day forward. Even Transportation and the Greece School Board will change over this, "Bullying" will not be tolerated anymore and they will have to react in the future.

I'll take the bait. Where was Babs all day?

A sworn civil servant of Greece recently stated that Greece is a community that runs itself. So sad, and yet proven once again, so true.

Send the video to Governor Cuomo.

SCATS-while making her wealthy may not be the answer to solve the initial problem of bullying, I am glad that there are still good, decent, generous people out there that sent well wishes, flowers, and yes, money. Although I did not watch the video as watching cruelty is something I do not stomach easily, I heard from others she handled herself with grace and dignity. At the very least she deserves something good to come to her out of all of this mess, and if it is cash or a vacation, in my opinion, it is part of an answer. KARMA at its finest :-)

If this is a paid position then there is something wrong going on here. What is the proper protocol for a monitor to follow in maintaining order on a bus? If nothing is allowed (can't rebuke kids, can't kick them off the bus, can't touch them in any way) then what, exactly, is the work content of the job?

Anonymous said...

Its so simple why is Greece making it so difficult!!
1. All students involved should apologize and donate so many hours this summer to Karens favorite charity.
2. Students involved should never be allowed to ride a bus again.
3. Greece should authorize a policy where an adult is protected to be allowed to write up a student or report a disipline problem without recourse to the person reporting it.
4. Babs should send this employee a spa gift card.. oops thats right she only bribes board members
I hope Karen gets all the money that has been donated to her and retires from that job before they find a reason to get rid of her which I am sorry to say but they will.
Is there any businesses out there who can offer a job to this woman.
Also Greece needs to wake up and realize your "Super" Babs is not around because she does not know how to face the issues only how to hide them or ignore them. I am sure someone got a lashing for this one.
Maybe you should have looked in your front yard instead of your backyard for this one.

As a retired Greece employee, I can tell you that I observed this same type of cruelty more than TWENTY years ago! I blame the administration (and the parents) for not providing any "real" consequences for this type of behavior over the years. Sadly, I predict that these jerks will end up receiving nothing more than (another) "slap on the wrist," and that this type of behavior will only worsen. To make matters worse, these kids will be hailed as "heroes" among their peers. Disgusting & sad.

last paragraph disciplinary action will not take place until SEPTEMBER because SCHOOL IS OUT? GCSD is a JOKE!

To 8:48AM ~~ Thank you!!

SCATS said...

To 8:19AM ~~ We don't see things quite the same on this.
1 - The involved students should be required to mow, weed, trim Klein's lawn for the summer and do other age-appropriate odd jobs as repayment.
2 - Students should lose privilege of riding buses.
3 - 100% agree!
4 - Supt. should have seen Klein yesterday!
5 - The money raised should be donated for training in handling disciplinary issues.
6 - I wonder if Babs drove home to Lyndonville to sleep last night? How nice the media don't come knocking on her lakefront mansion's doors to do a live Today Show interview about her renowned school district.

SCATS said...

To 7:24AM ~~ BINGO!! That is the TOP QUESTION OF THE HOUR!

SCATS said...

To 7:23PM ~~ Despite it going viral, it appears that the cover-up is well underway. Babs, the police chief & BOE Prez have ALL been absent on this. MSNBC says there will be no discipline until Sept. because school is out.

Has anyone noticed that there have been no comments from the Superintendent? She always uses her minions to protect herself. Plus, she probably isn't even in the district. Her "time" in the district is laughable. She is either away at conferences or vacation .

To be fair any incident on or involving district property is the problem that rests with the district. The PD only gets involved if they are requested or an employee or parent of a student files a complaint. In this case, they were asked to get involved by district officials. So far as I know, the victim never filed a complaint at the time of occurrence and has yet to so which is still an option if she wishes to pursue that course of action. If it were me, nowing wing a little about the states criminal proceedure laws as they apply to juveniles under the age of 16 yrs such action would be a waste of time and resources
In my opinion, riding a school bus is like being in a classroom and thereby subject to the district code of conduct and related punishment allowed by SED Law.
While a case could be made a charge of Harrasment
Could be made against the boy That actually physically made contact with her and not the others.
I believe the oppropriate course of action should be undertaken by the District unless the victim decides to press charges As a community we should demand the the district take appropriate action as well as take affirmative steps to stop this kind of conduct and not tolerate any breaches violations by our students.
Statements relative to this incident being a learning experience is akin to political BS. These kids knew what they were doing and why. Nobody had to tell them what they doing was wrong, they knew that too.
In my view, kids of this age group in today's society respond to only two sources physical pain or the threat thereof. Since that stimulus can not take place, deprivation and humiliation might in some cases have a positive impact,

SCATS said...

To 1:59PM ~~ Since summer time homework has become a district standard, each of these kids should have a written apology for Klein in the mail AND on the Supt's desk by 8AM Monday morning. It might help them with their ELA skills, too. After that, I think these kids owe a visit to see Klein face-to-face, but individually. Not making them deal directly with the person they hurt is DYSFUNCTIONAL! Thus my idea about them working for her for free over the summer. It's called RESTITUTION ;)

1:59 There could also be a charge of harassment for the threat to vandalize her home and the threat to stab her with a knife. That would be harassment in the first degree if she felt threatened a misdemeanor and the only way there would be charges if filed and in family court. For the same annoying insulting statements and the statements that said they would stab her with a knife would only be harassment in the 2nd degree (violation) if she did not feel threatened. But she didn't hear the statements when they happened. Does the feeling of being threatened have to be at the same time of the actions and words or can she feel threatened as she watches the video? That must be part of their investigation. She has to say she felt threatened by the words of the boys. If she says that and she presses charges then the case would go to family court. If she chooses to let it go then the district takes the only action. If she wants to keep her job she probably would do best to let it go. I'll bet she was counseled in that direction. They are now investigating if she was following the proper procedures by doing nothing. And the district got a first hand view of a bus monitor doing her job. Lots of questions to be answered. And where is Babs? Her first chance to really be in the forefront of a district crisis and she is nowhere to be found. Maybe she doesn't think so clearly on her feet.

She says she would prefer not to see them face-to-face again. I feel sorry for this poor woman. She is obviously a quiet sort who, I'm sure is really having a hard time with all this attention. After the last bus ride home she was probably so relieved to have the school year over so she could enjoy her quiet summer. Now it's a mess. Stupid kids need to be punished.

Their behavior sickens me. Granted their age explains how easily they lapsed into a mob mentality. But where were their parents seven or eight years ago? To say these boys were mean does a disservice to mean kids. These boys will abuse their wives, kids, and parents if they don't get into therapy NOW.

To 4:25PM ~~ I think $400,000 (so far, 28 days to go!) will help her cope.
