well, it does read 'Say Goodbye to Hoover Dr' not Odyssey Academy. I think they are saying goodbye to the building, not necessarily one particular school. As far as saying good bye to the other two, I would bet they will have some sort of event for each.

I guess all it takes is someone to plan it and get it going.

To 10:51AM ~~ Well, OA has a Facebook page titled: "Saying Goodbye to Odyssey" that's related to this event ;)

if the individual schools want to have a goodbye event, AND THEY RAISE THE FUNDS FOR IT, then go for it. Kirk Rd, Apollo, West Ridge can do the same thing I'm sure.

And what will become of that building? Why are we not let in on what will happen to it? Surely the neighbors will be attending to find out who their new neighbor will be. Neighbors are invited. Why isn't the Koda Vista neighborhood association trying to find out what the plans are? Will the building and the property go back to the original owners now that the school usage is obsolete? Will the district be required to bring the property back to its original form which is without the building that is laden with toxins such as lead and asbestos? It is the district's responsibility to do that. Very expensive. And if they don't will we have to wage a defense in court when the original estate demands the clean-up?
If the district is not forced to do the clean-up, the neighbors should beware of the dust that will emerge from that structure if there is a demolition. And don't whine that Kodak has and had emissions. We don't need more free flowing pollutants and carcinogens in the area.

To 12:06PM ~~ I've seen no evidence they did any fundraising for this. In fact, I'll bet we're all picking up the tab since they are going to run shuttle buses to handle the anticipated overflow parking ;)

it is my understanding if Greece Central completely abandoned the building, the entire parcel building and grounds revert to those who own the property. That would be the Britton family whose original owners stipulated in their will that the parcel can only be used as an educational complex. If we maintain any presence there as the school district, presumably we will still be obligated to maintain the building and groundsThe district tried unsuccessfully to interest BOCES in taking over the parcel last year so they would pick up the costs an.d Greece Central could still have a limited presence there. At this point ,unless things change, the building will not be used as stipulated by the .Brittons.and will remain empty unless it is used in some fashion by the district.
The major concern that I have is what will happen to the newly installed air conditioning. Unit on the third floor that cost around $300.000 as I recall. The question in my mind is can the district remove the system to be Used elsewhere or as some deeds stipulate any such additions become a part of the building and the property of it's owners,if so we are out the cost of that unit. Not to worry though, it's only taxpayer money and as usual someone else will benefit complements of us taxpayers.

To 1:10PM ~~ Any discussion of keeping the AC would have to take place in an OPEN BOE meeting session to be legal. It hasn't.

The Britton family owned the Hoover Drive School building? Britton Road School became Wegmans and was then torn down (I think)

Parkland is having a farewell to parkland picnic.

To 3:38PM ~~ Is the community invited? Past students & their families? Neighbors of the school? Will there be shuttle buses? If not, it's clear that PL is a second class school compared to OA ;)

Nope. Just current students, parents, and younger siblings. Parents are bringing lunch or paying for a hotdog so it is definitely not being paid for by your tax dollars :).

On a different subject -

There was a bus pulled over in our neighborhood today at 2:50 pm with a cop and lights flashing in front of bus # 857 at the corner of Bridgewood Drive and Quesada Drive today. Would LOVE to know what the hell went down on that bus. There were no ambulances, fire trucks, ect. Just the cops blocking the front of the bus and the bus sitting there with the stop sign out and red flashing lights on and the bus driver was still sitting in her seat buckled in.

It's unfortunate but as a parent and former employee is Greece, many have this air that some schools are somehow better than others. It had been made to clear to me by other parents that the ones my kids go to aren't the "good ones". Odyssey is moving. I don't see the huge deal about an old building sitting under Kodak's incinerator. Clearly it needed an air conditioner because you can't open the windows without inhaling the odor of the smoke stacks. No much that happens in Greece makes sense unfortunately. My one child went to Apollo. It will be missed. There is no goodbye celebration that I have heard of.

To 9:06PM ~~ They held a "Farewell Field Day" and Talent Show on Wednesday, June 13th.

Hoover Dr had failing test scores in the 90's. They relocated it to the Maiden Lane building in 1993 and thought it would improve. 18 years later it was on the schools performing poorly list in Albany. That meant that parents could demand that their children be relocated to another school in the district. So the solution now is to make that school disappear and "blend" the school with the Odyssey concept. Let's see how the academy elites like that strategy.

To 12:20PM ~~ Do you think ANY parents were demanding their kids be moved out of Apollo?
