APPROPRIATE PUNISHMENT ... ?

How about Community Service for the entire Summer at Klein's home.

They could mow, weed, plant flowers, trim shrubs, paint, clean & do any other age-appropriate chores as their apology & payback.

This would be a teachable moment, no?

I believe the parents should also be included in the community service!!!

I would recommend no bussing for the first quarter of the year. Also, interview each parent and child separately. The ones who do not accept their responsibility in the matter get some community service. Child of a parent who starts to make excuses, "my son would never..." would find their child also getting some community service. Both parents and children need to understand how serious this matter is. Community service could be cleaning the busses over the summer, inside and out, or helping with the school cleaning project.

To 12:11PM ~~ I don't think cleaning buses is appropriate. It wasn't the school district that was wronged, it was Klein. they owe her an apology & payback. Besides, I'll bet the chemicals used to clean buses come with special handling instructions, making the kids unable to be in contact with them.

1, No child involved on that bus should be readmitted to school property until they have been certified in writing by a Psychiatric Doctor to be safe to the community. This Certification will be at parental expense.

2, Any child involved in any violent act on a school bus shall be barred from riding any school bus forever.

3 GCSD has plenty of grass and athletic fields in need of work these delinquents can do during the summer. There are also an abundance of windows that need washing. (A similar program works in Allentown Pa.) Said daily punishment should begin with parents dropping the Delinquent off at a designated location at 6:15am and picking the Delinquent up at 4:30pm. The delinquent will be provided 2 hotdogs & 12 ounces of pop at community expense at Noon. Agrill shall be provided along with necessary utensils and Delinquents can cook their hotdog should they choose.

No Delinquent may bring any items along to their daily community service including but not limited to food items.

Water will be provided as necessary.

This woman admitted to being hearing impaired. These boys knew that and were furthering their fun by saying things they knew she couldn't hear. "Let's make fun of the slightly deaf person". Let's mock her knowing she can't hear most of it and record our fun about her disability. Does the deaf community of Rochester have anything to say about this? Aren't we supposed to be sensitive to people's disabilities? It seems like most of those following this are not aware of this hearing deficiency.

Pathetic response today! Did anyone else notice that SOTA public state what the punishment is from the school! We should be outraged!

Sorry but if she's not willing to press charges then she should not take any money that people are giving.

To 1:59PM ~~ I agree with you 100%!!!!

How can a person who can't see above the seats and remains in a seated position and can't hear comments from the adjoining seats be a monitor to prevent harm to the students on the bus? What is she monitoring? A child could be attacked on a seat and she couldn't hear it or see it. There were kids putting a book under her and she was completely oblivious to it. Why are we paying someone to do ride-alongs on the buses?

To 1:58PM ~~ I agree with you also. It's BS that we can't address this. It's not that they can't, it's that they won't.

In some cases the monitor is there solely for a disabled child. They have no other responsibility. If that is the case here the child she was responsible for could have already gotten off the bus.

I think each child should have to sit down in a room with their Aunts, Grandmothers and Mother's and watch all of the video and explain to their loves ones what is going on and what they were thinking at the time.

I wouldn't let any of them anywhere near Karen's home, afterall isn't that something that was brought up in the video.

Riding a bus for these kids should be terminated until Highschool. Let their parents get them to school next year.

Suspension from School - I would not do this.

Community service for school functions, mandatory service I would love to see.

Bus Monitor should not only have a written but a verbal apology.

To 4:09PM ~~ Agreed.

To 4:38PM ~~ Apologies are not always heartfelt. I think they need to put it in writing, sign it and say it to her too. Then start washing her windows ...

RE: 12:55
I was born totally deaf in one ear and lost 20-30% in the other growing up. I guess you could say I am hearing impaired. I know that there are all different levels of being hearing impaired and am presuming that the Monitor is not driving anymore due to being hearing impaired and that is why she is a bus monitor now.

I am not sure what the point is that you are trying to get through here but let me give you some insight on someone who is hearing impaired.

If I was sitting there at age 69 and had all of these little kids who were 14+ around me swearing at me, mocking me, calling me names, picking on my family, ect... I too might say to myself I did not hear all of that stuff to if two days later I am getting phone calls from my family, my work place, school officials, facebook, emails, ect.. showing a very everyone in the world how I was picked on and did absolutely nothing other than ignore them.

You might want to call it embarassement and would rather not have had everyone find out the way they did and to make it worst, on film and on the intranet!!

Just a different point you might want to think about.

4:09 Good point. Maybe the disabled child was one of the abusers. Some disabilities are not visible.

8:02 Yes you might just decide to pretend it wasn't happening. But if it was your job to supervise children you are not allowed that type of introspection while on the job. What if the teachers suddenly began to sit facing the wall because the students were acting up? Maybe these kids were attempting to make her blow up at them. Maybe they knew she couldn't hear them and were mocking her as a commentary to the video they were planning on creating. I do agree she did not want to have to deal with this and was probably looking forward to a summer without the bus rides. Now things have changed. She has no choice. This media attention could be seen as not too healthy for her at this age also. Why is her family not at her side during this? She does need support. Let's hope they are there but in the background.

To 11:10PM ~~ Her daughter was there in a couple of interviews. I'm sure the rest will surface now that she's into the $$, airline & Disney tickets, etc.

They sure WERE! Look up "teacher baiting." Kids with cell phone cameras do everything in their power to make an adult blow up, then record it and laugh as the adult gets all the consequences.
