Ballot Position #2 ~~ Nicholas Giordano

Arcadia High School graduate 2011.

Attends RIT and is a student assistant in RIT’s Office of the President.

Ballot Position #3 ~~ Joe Grinnan

Retired from Kodak; previously worked as senior auditor for the Inspector General’s Office in the U.S. Dept. of State; member of the Board of Education’s Audit Committee for 4 years.

“I believe that my understanding of policy development and oversight of business and management operations qualifies me for the Board of Education."

Watch out for candidate #2 he was very nasty in high school and had issues with authority. Let's hope this isn't a run to try to get even with teachers and administrators. And how much time does a kid have to give to the running of the school district if he is attending and living at RIT.

Anonymous said...

SCATS,

Did you (or anyone else) publicize the period when candidates can post for these positions? How does a concerned citizen take the first steps to becoming a candidate?

Anonymous said...

3:29 Funny to get even? If he is at RIT obviously he had a pretty good education. Not sure how much of an ax he could possibly have to grind.

As for challenging authority...that may be exactly what this BOE needs. Someone that does not go along with stays quo and has the shall I say...guts to speak and think for himself. Good luck to him. Not sure if is qualified but I have yet to really see anyone that is.
And for the record every candidate has a personal agenda :)

SCATS said...

To 5:43PM ~~ I didn't post anything. As far as I'm aware, once the election in May is held, and everything officially tallied with the Board of Elections, etc. you can obtain a petition from the Board Clerk's office in Apollo. The number of signatures on the petition that will be required depends upon the number who turn out to vote in the May election. That petition and signatures must be returned to the Board Clerk by a specific date preceeding next year's election, a date that's usually in April. Most don't obtain a petition until early in the new year, say Feb. timeframe.

To 7:27PM ~~ Just because someone gets into RIT doesn't make them a rocket scientist. There are some tough programs ... and some not so tough ones at RIT, too.

Anonymous said...

Candidates: please inform us of your stand on PILOT programs.
And what is your position on the tax cap.

Anonymous said...

looks like 3-4-5

Anonymous said...

I'm liking all the young people. I think it's good for the community. Get rid of all the old fuddy duddies who are living in the past. I would also like to see NO teachers on the Board, at least teachers that teach or used to teach in GCSD since they are personally to blame for alot of our problems

Anonymous said...

If you want to know more about the candidates attend the PTA candidates night on April 26 at Apollo Middle School.

Anonymous said...

3,4,5?? Same policies and years of no change?

Anonymous said...

Time for #5 to go. Don't trust #4 or #3. I'm willing to give the young ones a try and hope they can shake things up a bit in the right direction. The only problem with the RIT student is the time it takes to attend school and perform the responsibilities of the board. Is he there to fill a resume or to actually do some good.

SCATS said...

To 3:17PM ~~ I couldn't agree more about ridding the BOE of Julia. Enough already! As for the other four candidates, #4 will be another "GTA all the way" candidate like Dave Ferington has turned out to be ... totally useless. The first 2 candidates appear to be running in an attempt to ensure that Grinnen doesn't get elected. Grinnen is the only candidate worth a vote, but I'd go with numbers 1-3 if I had to vote for 3, which I don't.

Anonymous said...

How many do we vote for?

SCATS said...

To 6:25PM ~~ You can vote for up to three candidates.

Anonymous said...

Julia says "I ran and am running again because I love children and have advocated on their behalf for many years. I currently have two boys in our schools." What you haven't said is that while under your watch we have seen programs being eroded and the ones who are affected are the children, therefore your statement is contradictory to your actions. As for your children, do they attend Odyssey? I truly believe that your time is up.

I like the first young man, he seems to be better suited to provide the services that are needed in our community. He is a recent graduate and works full time. Number three on the list also looks like a viable candidate.
Ms. Malore I do not know very well and so I will reserve judgement, although she did seems to be too closely connected to administration to be an advocate/effective for children.

Anonymous said...

Terry Melore is one of the most objective and professional educators I ever worked with. She didn't always agree with administration - and knew how to voice this in an appropriate and professional manner. She was supportive of effective educators who "got the job done" but did not blindly support those who give teachers a bad name. Just because she was a teacher in Greece doesn't mean she's a bad apple --- there ARE teachers in Greece who know the real issues and are willing to tackle them head on. Terry is well spoken, intelligent, dedicated and a tireless worker. Hear what she has to say, ask her some tough questions and then make your decision. To do otherwise is unfair and could potentially cause you to pass up what could very well be a step in the right direction for the healing of this district.

SCATS said...

To 8:07PM ~~ Not always supporting administration doesn't make her any less GTA/teachers union oriented, does it?

As for teachers in Greece who know about the real issues: WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY? Why don't they step-up, speak-up, do something for the kids of this district? If you plan to tell me they can't because they'll lose their jobs, then they ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

This GTA candidate isn't any better in that she is retired and hasn't said anything either.

Candidate number gets my vote. He is a greece arhena graduate as well as a St John Fisher Graduate receiving both his Bachelors Degree and most recently, his Masters Degree

Anonymous said...

I remember candidate #1 used to referee my two girls in Greece soccer and he always was fair and balanced. Candidate #3 seems like he may add value on the fiscal side. Time to change political environment in Greece schools. We need new blood. Let's shake this election up.

Anonymous said...

#1 was a student of mine at St.John Fisher College when he was a senior. I have no experience with any of the other candidates, but this guy is a winner! I can say that without a doubt he was one of my hardest working students I have had in teaching for about 8 years but passion is what he is known for. He will make a great assest to the community of Greece, and whatever else he decides he wants to do. I wish him the best and hope that the people of Greece make a choice to bring him on board.
-Dr.J

Anonymous said...

I am leaning towards Candidate #1 - Adam Crandall. It will be nice to have some young blood on the Board. As stated in previous posts, he graduated from Greece Athena and also received both his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from St. John Fisher College and is working full time.

I also agree with previous comments about giving the young ones a try! It will be much better for our community!

My only reservation about candidate #2 is that he is a current Freshman at RIT and I wonder how he will be able to juggle being a full time college student as well as tackling the issues that the Greece Board faces. I feel that he is too young to be able to efficiently handle both.

Crandall seems like one of the better candidates!

SCATS said...

Additional info regarding Adam Crandall (Candidate #1):
1 - From his Facebook pages I can see that he changes his profile picture more often than most of us change socks;
2 - He's a big fan of Roc Brewing Co. LLC;
3 - His apparent "motive" for running for BOE consists of this statement: "Hello, My name is Adam Crandall and I am running for Greece School Board on May 15th! I graduated from Athena in 2005 and I took Italian for several years! If I get elected I will help preserve the languages! I would love your endorsement! Please pass the word along!"

Anonymous said...

I believe Mr. Hubbard always uses the phrase "Owners of the district" - can you tell me how a kid that graduated in 2011 is an owner? Also does either candidates 1 or 2 own property in the town and thereby become according to Hubbard definition is an "owner". Or do we need a definition of "owner"?

SCATS said...

To 10:43AM ~~ You must have ESP! I was thinking my next BLOG my be on that topic. Our current supt. has yet to buy her lil piece of heaven from what I've heard ;) She's contractually required to do so.

Anonymous said...

Candidate #1 has made it very clear that he is dipping his toe in the political pond with hopes to use the BOE as a stepping stone to a bigger political office. I hope he realizes being on the BOE can be the death of any political career. He has stated that he has never attended a BOE meeting, does he have a clue what he is getting into. Does he really care that much about the school district or is this just a way to get his name out there.

Anonymous said...

Hey Scats, because Crandall is running and he has "motives" there must be a deeper conspiracy as to the real people behind candidate Adam Crandall. Have you ever watched Homeland on Showtime? This seems truly straight out of Hollywood.

SCATS said...

To 3:40PM ~~ Good question, I have no idea.

To 6:01PM ~~ No, I've never seen that show. What's the implication?

Anonymous said...

I am supporting candidate #1! He is extremely connected to the district in which he just graduated in 2005 from Athena and has a high level of education to hopefully fix the mess that VanOrman has lead this district down! I say we bring in the new and shake things up in Greece!

Anonymous said...

Those board members who got elected only for the preservation of schools of choice have done little else. Yes that includes VanOrman.
This reorganization again to preserve the schools of choice is a mess.

Anonymous said...

I though that Hubbard boy would run. I like his thinking!!!

Anonymous said...

Vote for any of them with the exception of VanOrman. Her time has come and gone. We don't need to listen to her babble on any longer. If she does get re-elected for the love of God don't let her be President again.

Anonymous said...

Looks like candidate# 1 is doing things right....I have noticed some of his lawn signs up throughout Greece. I am thinking he is going to be the one to truly bring change to this district. This have been a mess for way to long and I say it is time to give this guy a shot. Nothing can be worse than what we already have!

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know where the voting is taking place? This year I am no longer sitting home and waiting for Vanorman to take control of our children's education. Candidate#1 and Candidate# 2 gets my vote. We need some young motivated people on this board!

SCATS said...

To 10:17PM ~~ Voting takes place at the elementary schools. If you don't know which one to go to please call the District Clerk, Lynne Armstrong to find out.

I think Joe Grinnan should be given a chance. He's got some experience this district could REALLY use in light of our past problems with the Comptroller's audit, budgets, etc.

Anonymous said...

Hollywood? I just followed the link to Candidate #1's Facebook election page, over 1000 endorsements. Whats up? Did this guy run for some office in Greece before? Red Hat Club?, Former first Lady MRS. Bush in Greece? I guess thats why they call this the Facebook generation. I like candidate 3, but would like to see what this young guys ideas are all about. Academic excellence, oversight, accountability sounds good. impressive pedigree Fisher. Wheres he work? Anyone here 1 and 3 talk about their passions for getting engaged in student academic excellence.

Anonymous said...

#1 has my vote

Anonymous said...

Candidate#1 Looks Impressive!! I am ALL IN!

SCATS said...

There's something more than a little bit odd about the SUDDEN popularity of Candidate #1. Watch out folks.

tim rogers said...

I watched Adam Crandall mature & grow at Athena HS, definitely would be a positive for BOE. Also, watched Terry Melore work for Greece Central for many, many years, she also would make an excellent BOE member

Anonymous said...

candidate #1 is a great fit for this. he has my vote all the way.

Anonymous said...

Adam Crandall should be getting most of the votes. He brings enthusiasm and determination. He will fight till things are better. All around good person.

Anonymous said...

I went to school with Adam Crandall.....he was always involved in multiple organizations on campus. He would be a great addition to the board! He is a stand up guy.

Anonymous said...

Please dear lord not another 3 years of Vanorman! Does anyone know if this lady is term limited??? God I hope so.

SCATS said...

To 11:31PM ~~ There are NO term limits on the Greece school board, sorry to say. That's how we end up with BOE "lifers" like Karen Hoffman, Bob Mueller, Fred Koeng ...

Anonymous said...

I wonder how long the citizens of Greece will continue to put up with the same old Malarkey from Vanorman and her crew! I am going with candidates # 1 & #2! THE YOUNG make a difference!

SCATS said...

Methinks some, maybe quite a few believe candidate 1 would settle a long disputed contract ;)

Anonymous said...

I am a life long Greece resident. I graduated from Greece Athena and have both my bachelors and masters degrees from RIT. As much as it pains me to say this, I am once again disappointed with the lack of quality candidates this year. I am especially speaking to candidate 1. Although he has signs over town and has a big smile, that doesn't mean he has the qualifications to be on our school board. Yes, he graduated from Athena and went to Fisher, but as far as I know he no longer lives in Greece. I can't imagine electing someone to our town school board who no longer wants to even live in our town. He has said on multiple occasions that he is looking to get his foot in the political door., but I am unsure of his abilities to separate political ideologies and religious beliefs from our children's education. I applaud him for being passionate about his republican and Christian beliefs, however I don't want that to be imposed on my children ( and based on my interactions with this young man, I doubt he is capable). I don't believe our incumbent board is stellar, by any stretch of the imagination, but where are the retired teachers or business owners living in Greece who can help guide our educational system and maintain our fiscal responsibilities. There have been so many layoffs of teachers or early retirements and these are the types of people we need on our board. I don't think college students or sales men are qualified for the job. In addition, having attended high school in the district doesn't qualify you either.

As a side note, the majority of the people who are "supporting" candidate 1 are people that he went to high school with. The majority of these supporters no longer live in the town of Greece. In fact, there are a good number of people that live outside of upstate NY and even the state. How can voters accurately gauge the effectiveness and honesty of this candidate if his support page is misleading. Just some food for thought.

Anonymous said...

Adam Crandall is requesting that is friends come to this blog and post supportive comments. Who's to say that these supporters live in the town of Greece. Seems to me that adam Crandall is following in the deceptive nature of politics and I DONT want another person like that on our school board.

SCATS said...

To 3:58PM ~~ That sounds about right. Most of his "supporters" don't have any SPECIFIC things to say to support him. I'm hearing he wants this as a stepping stone for political reasons, too.

Anonymous said...

Please be aware that Adam Crandall consistently talks about how he plans on moving down south. He has done so for many years and as short as a few months ago posted pictures on his fb stating that he was looking to buy property down south because he wants to move there for work. Something is fishy about this run for boe. I dont trust this kid and he won't get my vote.

Anonymous said...

Crandall's got J-mac as a supporter. Now you know he's the real deal.

Anonymous said...

Say what you want to say but it looks like this Crandall guy is getting a lot of press. To say the least it is going to be an interesting election!

Anonymous said...

On more than one occasion I have heard this candidate say that his long term plan is to move out of state. He constantly posts how much he loves it there and was even looking at real estate. How can we trust our kids in the hands of someone who is willing to up and go wherever it takes him ( or the $ takes him)? How can we trust he even plans to stay in new York. Let's face it.… it's not like he lives in our town anymore.

SCATS said...

To 7PM ~~ If you or anyone else has proof of his residence, please provide it ASAP. One of the few requirements for running for BOE is that you MUST RESIDE WITHIN GCSD, not just Greece.

Anonymous said...

Candidates 1 and 2 are both indeed residents of Greece and the GCSD. Just because candidate #2 goes to RIT doesn't mean his permanent residence isn't in Greece. Same goes for Candidate #1. Just because he has gone to St. John Fisher College to finish his Master's Degree, doesn't mean His permanent residence isn't in Greece. It's amazing how everyone seems to be focusing soley on Candidate #1. Seems to me like certain people are trying to paint a negative picture of Candidate 1 and Candidate 2 because they feel the are a threat. Keep shaking things up 1 and 2. You both have my vote.

Anonymous said...

WOW candidate #1 seems absolutely remarkable and inspiring. He has my vote!!! I have seen his signs all over! We need someone young and fresh like candidate #1. Anyone is better than VanOrman. I can't take her preposterousness crap that she has put this district through. Get her off the BOE NOW. If you had a brain and some common sense you would not vote for her again.

SCATS said...

To 4:50PM ~~ What good press? Aside from FB & this BLOG??

To 8:52PM ~~ You know this info about their residency how??

To 9:48PM ~~ Exactly WHAT is so remarkable & inspiring? Can he chew gum & walk at the same time?

Anonymous said...

Candidate #1 you have my support! Do not let these negative comments throw you off your game! Push forward, push hard and keep up the hard work! These people are clearly fearful of young people getting on the board! Candidate # 2, maybe you should team up with #1 and defeat all this negativity against young people!

SCATS said...

To 12:12AM ~~ You keep thinkin' that! ;) lol

All of these phony messages of "support" go to show that nobody has a clue what this kid's "platform" is.

Anonymous said...

You say that no one has a clue what this "kids" platform is? I am a 25 year old male, who owns a home in Greece, married and have one daughter. The last time I checked, a 25 year old man is NOT a kid. Sounds like the "OLD" candidates refer to candidate number 1 as a "kid" because they are outdated themselves. I take offense to these candidates referring to a man of 25 to be a "kid". I don't know who I am voting for yet, but it's getting old hearing all the attacks about #1 just because he is young

Anonymous said...

Adam Crandall owns his home in east Rochester. His parents reside in pine brook. Bet he's using that address…

Anonymous said...

I'm 26, went to school with Adam and wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him. Seems to me he's lieing about residency to get his foot in the political water. Go down south- you'd be better off and so would we.

Adam " purchased" a home in east Rochester, however it was his parents that put their name on the mortgage. Adam just recently posted on face book that he paid off his home, but if you do a search there is no property record for him. He lives in east rochester in this home. However, he is saying that he is a resident of Greece by using his parents address in Greece. This is so wrong. He is a liar and a xxxxxxx for trying to scam the system. Unfortunately there is no way to stop him. He has this set up so he could climb the political ladder. This is sick and I don't want him on the board. He's either luring about being a resident of Greece or luring to his "friends" that he not only purchased a home but paid it off ( that's a big deal where I come from). 5/08/2012 4:36 PM

Anonymous said...

Monroe county clerk will have the information regarding who has the deed on the east rochester property. It is as simple as that. Speculation and innuendos do little for the facts . He either owns it or he doesn't. It really is a simple concept. What he says and what people are hearing, or what someone believes is irrelevant. What is relevent is where his legal address is and if his address is elsewhere than the people who are supposed to be vigilant in these matters should step up and rectify this travesty. As for 4:36, it seems you have an axe to grind with Mr. Crandall. As the old saying goes........put up or shut up

Anonymous said...

I agree with you about the kid thing, but the attacks seem to be that he's using the system for political gain. It seems as though people are assuming the attacks are coming from older members of our community. I wrote the comment about being a life long Greece native. I'm under 30. I don't want deceptive tactics to be in our local politics any longer. From what I know on a personal, professional, and now political level of Adam Crandall, I see he can't be trusted and encourage our town voters to avoid electing this man to the board.

Anonymous said...

I agree- it would be frat to prove that he's using the system as you say, 4:36. I get what you're trying to say- that he has another primary residence, but if he hasn't changed his license there isn't anything you can do. Especially if his parents are in on it. I like the fact that he's young, but I find this residency issue intriguing. I tried to look into it, but the only thing I found is that his linked in says he lives in east Rochester. Now it may not be accurate or up to date ( and there is a good chance I'm reading it wrong - us AARPers arnt alway up on our technology ). I think there may be some accuracy es to it, but without substantiated proof. What can you do. Can any one provide solid proof? Doesn't anyone else find this suspicious and interesting?

Anonymous said...

This blog is Disgusting! Im amazed at all the attacks on the candidates running for school board. You think it's someone running for President. What a joke. I can't believe all the comments made about a candidates residency. It's clear to me that all the candidates live in Greece and that the speculations and attacks need to stop.

SCATS said...

To 10PM ~~ We can't have you getting all disgusted, so PLEASE DO NOT READ SCATS any more. That should resolve your problems.

Anonymous said...

Number 1 dosen't even live in Greece so why is he even on the ballot.

Anonymous said...

Shame on you GTA! As a Greece teacher I was appalled when I opened my email yesterday and I saw who you endorsed for School Board members - Joe, Nick and Adam - and not Terry Melore, a retired Greece teacher whom I have known and worked with for years - some one that would be true asset to our School Board. Some one that has given our district her time and talent. Then today I receive another email giving her your endorsement. No wonder we can't settle our contract, we don't even know whom to endorse! It looks real good when we endorse 4 candidates for 3 seats - which one of you is the math teacher?

Anonymous said...

Candidate Adam Crandall is a member of the 912 project, and he is listed as living in East Rochester. Maybe he should reread the 7 beliefs to be a memeber. Number 1 is honesty. Apparently has already broken that one.

Anonymous said...

So I see after the last post that Adam Crandall just changed where he lives on the 912 website to Greece,NY.Really who do you think your kidding.

Anonymous said...

Adam Crandall will see that dishonesty won't get him far. Yes, he won but I don't think he's going to succeed. This is based on his history of dishonesty. It's a sad day for Greece that we elected another politician like Adam Crandall.

SCATS said...

To 11:11AM ~~ Greece Central is ripe for its next scandal. Maybe it will center on his residency.

Anonymous said...

I have a feeling this young man is in for a rude awakening. Youre right scats- he will be the next scandal in Greece. I have a feeling people are going to set out to prove him a fraud. What happens if someone can prove that he lives in er? I know not changing your address with the state is illegal, but are there any additional 'ramifications' that can come from running for boe under false pretenses? I'd hate for Greece to look bad yet again.
