Taxpayers Will Pay For Hockey Bully Mess

Victim's Family Sues
District For Violent Acts

Lawsuit alleges Tyler Grimshaw “demonstrated a pattern of aggression toward his hockey teammates.”

Tyler Grimshaw

The suit further alleges that:
  • School officials & coaches ignored Grimshaw's behaviors
  • Grimshaw caused concussions in other players
  • Grimshaw shot another athlete with an Airsoft gun in the shower
  • Grimshaw aimed the gun at a coach
  • Grimshaw “opened fire on a bunch of ‘rookies’ (freshman and sophomore)”
The claim against the district says that currently, the victim is subjected to harassment at school by students who “consider him a ‘whistleblower’ against a popular older athlete.”

STORY

SCATS ~~ Of course the hockey coach is STILL WORKING for the Greece Central Sports Dysfunction (GCSD) endangering the welfare of other players by his inability to properly supervise those he is paid to watch over, guide and teach! How many more incidents will it take before we remove this employee?

The coach is not working for the district. He was not a teacher he was just a coach and from what the parents have been told he will not be allowed to coach again.

The claim is not just against the district it is against specific people employeed by the district. And the "tax payers" will not be paying for this the district has insurance to take care of legal suits against employees.

Well, well, well hey sports boosters how you like "Webby" now. I smell a six or seven figure payout. Oh and Danny boy better lawyer up, if you were negligent or found to be "grossly negligent" ( Diagnosing no brain injury when there was one YOU ARE NOT A DOCTOR) ), ( Not reporting or disciplining a player who pointed an weapon or simulated weapon at you or one of your coaching staff) which could happen all bets are off. Brain injury, negligent coaches who in my opinion should never have been coaching anybody. My head is ready to explode. I gotta pay my tax bill this fall and know that some of my money is going for this kind of stuff. Greece Lightning was the original GCSD hockey team get rid of the Thunder and go to one team the original. They won a state championship too and they were a class act with a classy coach not this unorganized undisciplined gaggle of miscreants.

To 1:36PM ~~ Can you show me evidence of that?

To 1:38PM ~~ Yes and those insurance rates go up every year ;) We "pay" one way or another!

To 1:41PM ~~ With out ongoing financial troubles, maybe now is the time to rewind on sports and narrow the offerings to the basics?

I was told that the District had asked Greece PD to do their so called "internal investigation " Inaddition they requested the officer who was conducting the criminal investigation of the accussed. Be assigned. Iam skeptical as that result in a huge conflict of interest. I seriously doubt Baxter would allow this unless ?-------------------------. Something we've seen before in this corrupt Town Government.

SCATS said...

To 1:49PM ~~ I don't understand. Are you saying that GCSD requested a SPECIFIC officer to do the investigation? Why? Who?

Anonymous said...

Section V and Monroe county would not let Greece go down to one team - the district is too big.

Webb has friends in high places who care about winning before anything else, but I think this one will be too much to overcome.

Anonymous said...

Guess who the District asked to conduct their" internalCOVER UP investigation ? Nonother than the GPD. they. Also requested that the same officer conducting the criminal actions by the accussed be assigned to do their investigation.Talk about a conflict of interests WOW !!When I was told this I said no way. Baxter would allow this to happen. UNLESS???.-------------------------------.If true when have we seen this happen before in this corrupt government of this town.

Everybody on this boe, as well as anyone else, that chose to keep this coach employed (after the drinking incident) owns this one. Steve A. Finally stepped up and did the right thing, and you people blew it. The situation with team has been ongoing in one way or another. The boe is as guilty for what happened to this 14 year old as the bully.

Btw, we will be hearing this same speech idown the road when some of our districts 6th graders are forced into an unsafe situation at Olympia. The boe knows its nt he right thing to do, yet go along to appease special interests.

Let's not forget that GCSD would not even be in the position they are in if the BOE didn't overturn Achromavitch's decision to fire the coach. He has to laughing hysterically at GCSD now. Another great decision by the BOE.

If it is true as to what is said here about GCSD asking a specific GPD officer to investigate then I would think that it makes this matter even worse for GCSD. They had this kid arrested for his actions that happened during a school function. Great decision making Administration. You tried to do the right thing and now you have put this District in a bigger mess.

Believe me folks it is just a notice of claim. If any individuals are named they will be dropped when the lawsuit is filed. It will be wholly against GCSD. That is where the money is, not the individual.

To the family who is suing GCSD. Good for you!!

The simple fact remains that our BOE needse a cleansing enema. Until we get rid of representative of special interest groups and politicians and replace them with objective thinking Individules there is no hope for this district and it 's most important mission a quality education for all our students not just a privileged few . Members of this present board remain intimidated by self entitled group of parents committed to having things their way. In my opinion, there is not one board member with the courage and integrity to stand up to the small group of intimidators and do what they were elected to do, represent all the needs of all stakeholders in this district. I will even go so far to say that a few of them have no clue as to what their responsibilitiies as board members entail. So what's the answer? In other districts outside of Greece the answer is simple. Get rid of those on the board that are not responsive to the needs of the many at the expense of the one or the few.So why won't it take place in Greece. This can be summed up in one word. APPOTHY. That word is the bane of this town. This attitude on the part of Greece residents is the reason that the minority will continue to prevail in this town and school district. Not since the former HMO board have we had aboard character to stand up against these so called"PILLARS " of this town and do the right things necessary to turn this district a round. I think it.'s fair to say that subsequent and present board has successfully wiped out the much needed changes and has returned the district it's prior sorry state.
Until the right people come forward and get involved by seeking a board seat , this district will continue to operate in a manner not conducive of succes.and the well being of our students.

to 9:26 I understand your frustration.
A 'start' could be to reduce the size of the board from 9 members to 5. Administrations in most districts love bigger boards knowing that nothing will be done by them.
A resolution could easily be put on the ballot in May.

To Charlie ~~ Is there really enough time to do that before the vote?

Charlie Hubbard said...

to Scats 11:08

Yup - now is there a will?

A better solution is resolution to abolish the BO they are. Useless any way. B

SCATS said...

To Charlie ~~ I'd help in any way possible, if you want to take the lead. My question was over concern that legal notice deadlines may have been missed.

Be careful what you wish for. A five person BOE means that a majority is now only three BOE members.

So then you would have only to get three BOE members to have TOTAL control of an almost 200 million dollar budget, create new BOE policies and hire and fire at will. It is so much easilier to get three to agree than five to agree.

Think of the power majorities in the past. Recently Boily majority loss power when he could not keep five votes. We still would have Steve A. with a five member BOE. HMO loss power when they could not keep five votes.

There is alot of power resting with three people.

Doug ~~ Maybe that will help to get people's attention.

The question that really needs to be answered in the lawsuit against the district how serious was this injury of the 14 year old? Ask his mother's bunco group that was over their house the next day - the "injured" was running around just like normal..... Seems to me that Odyssey parent's are the problem or that their hockey kids are wimps!

That family is making a spectical of the son and have been trouble makers in the past!

SCATS said...

To 10:25PM ~~ The fact that the boy was behaving normally the next day is something everyone should be happy to hear! Concussions are considered to be potentially much more serious today than previously thought. If he were permanently injured, would you feel better?

You are making a "spectical" of yourself with such comments.

It's sad again that you are going after the kid, turning him into the VICTIM again. I attended the Bunco night, and believe me the boy was not running around, he was sick with a headache. He is a fantastic, and polite young man. Please remember that the child is the victim here. It is Tyler Grimshaw who is the "Bully" and the coaching staff of Thunder Hockey that created the envrionment which enabled the "bullying".
I hope that there is not a day that your child has to face a "bully' in life. I commend the parents of the victim for standing up for their child!

Anonymous said...

To those making it as if Grimshaw has not had issues before he has as a Football player! It is unfortunate that those "records" are not available. He is a dirty player on the filed and has also had disciplinary problems at school but magically he is able to take the field. Win at all cost in GCSD.

Anyone with a possible traumatic brain injury should not be running around or even doing schoolwork. Read up on this. Let's hope he is ok even though he had the brain injury. The sports teams and the coaches should be more knowledgeable about injuries to the head as well as falls and impact that can cause permanent back and neck pain for years .
Thye treat the sports participants as if they are rubber and bounce back from any injury and they don't. They are letting the kids participate for their own fun and possible scholarships and admission into good colleges and then after graduation they suffer in adulthood. Problem is that the coaches are just there to encourage teams to win and they teach the skills to play. They are not skilled in injury prevention. In fact most of these sports have injuries as part of the process. They are in most cases unavoidable. Would you like to see any of the board members slamming into each other and falling and sliding into home base? Exploitation for the enjoyment of the spectators paid for by the taxpayers.

SCATS said...

To 10:02PM ~~ In this case, the "injury" was ENTIRELY avoidable! The kid was attacked in the locker room.

I just don't understand why so many people are so down on that sweet Tyler boy.

I've known him since he was in diapers, very large diapers, and he's always been just the nicest kid in the neighborhood. When the evil children chased a cat up a tree it was Tyler who ripped the tree out by the roots so the cat could be rescued.
Then he used the tree to put a good whipping on the evil children.

I saw Tyler the day he heard about Congresswoman Slaughter breaking her leg. Tyler was beside himself and you could tell he'd been crying. All by himself Tyler looked up the phone number for her office and called to ask if he could be of help by carrying Louise around. You don't meet a lot of children like Tyler these days.

18 year old, Tyler Grimshaw pleaded guilty to a violation harassment charge in Greece Town Court earlier this month, and admitted in court to shoving and striking a 14-year-old teammate during a February hockey practice. See:

I can't figure out why the school district has allowed this type of nonsense to continue for so long. Is it that some of these hockey parents have undue influence over the school board?

And why didn't anyone ever reel in Mr. Grimshaw and hold him accountable. Too bad for him that so many "adults" in his life didn't have the integrity to teach him a few things.
