GREECE HOCKEY PLAYER CHARGED!!!

WARNING: COMMENT CONTENT IS VERY HARSH & CONTAINS EXPLETIVES

Tyler Grimshaw ~ Tweeted last night: "Only benefit of not being allowed at school #nohomework"
Retweeted by him on Feb. 5th: If it weren't for thunder hockey I woulda left Athena so long ago. Fxxx the school and kids there."

13WHAM News reports: "A 17-year-old high school hockey player is accused of assaulting another player.

Greece Police say Tyler Grimshaw is charged with assault.

He's accused of injuring a 14-year-old player during a Greece Thunder hockey practice last Monday.

The victim injured his head."

SCATS ~~ Correction please, Ch. 13: the victim did NOT injure his head!!! The attacker injured it for him!! My sources tell me the victim was subjected to ongoing bullying by team members which resulted in a concussion and hospital visit in this assault. Parents have hired an attorney and plan to pursue this matter fully.

WHAT WILL THE GREECE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT DO TO DISCIPLINE THE TEAM, INDIVIDUALS AND COACH WEBB (a two time problem employee) IN LIGHT OF THE FACT WEBB SAYS HE HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY  FOR "FIGHTING"? This was clearly an incident that violates the anti-bullying policy of the district!!!

Yes, we know Coach Webb has no idea what GCSD rules, regs & policies say from his previous negligence on the job.

So glad our sports program in Greece is teaching our kids such great lessons...

Julia and the rest of the THEN BOE have the blood and pain of this child on their hands! This guy, Webby, should have been gone when he decided to drink on the job, while entusted with the care of children.

Memo To Babs: This is what happens when you bow to special interests. In this instance it was the hockey parents being catered to. In the years to come, the blood of some poor 6th grader, thrown into Olympia, will be on ALL YOUR HANDS!

When will those in power learn that doing what's right, isn't always going to be what's popular?

SCATS said...

To 2PM ~~ VERY WELL SAID!!!

Anonymous said...

Based upon good sources (player from other teams), he beat up the team manager. Ban him for good!

SCATS said...

To 2:23PM ~~ My sources concur ;)

Anonymous said...

This wasn't fighting, this was hazing. It happens every year to some unfortunate newbie. One player was charged for this incident, but the seniors as a group act in solidarity. Last year's victim was hurt even worse than this year's has been.

SCATS said...

To 2:25PM ~~ If that's true, then as I stated on the BLOG, the entire team should forfeit ALL playoff games as discipline. A very loud message MUST be ent. The coach should be fired ASAP.

This is the Litmus test for Deane-Williams and her BOE. Will they deal with this well known, on-going, and outrageous situation promptly and correctly? Or will they repeat the previous egregious Board errors and let even more kids be viciously attacked by out of control jocks in the future? It is "step up to the plate" time to deal with these thugs. So far, as best we know, I guess, no one has died or been permanently maimed. But what about the next time.....let's hope there is no next time.

Anonymous said...

Seems though I also remember an assault committed by a few Greece hockey players in the Wood Run area a year or so ago. I heard about at work, as well as a post on this blog. Probably unrelated, but I don't think the kids then were ever charged.

Anonymous said...

This was not hazing! It was a fight that began over comments about the Steelers. The team is not responsible, only Tyler. Where was the coach during this attack? That seems to be the bigger issue for the BOE.

Anonymous said...

Interesting... people who have facts are your children on the team? zzzzMine is and has been for four years. So you want facts ...here they are -
1.The BOE was not bowing to special interests with hockey parents during the Dan Web issue. The district acted on an anonymous email that could not be verified.
2. They never interviewed the parents at the tournament where the alleged issue happened.
3. They never interviewed the players at the tournament where the aleged issue happened.
So it was Dan Web who was handled inappropriately.

Secondly,
1. This incident was not hazing or bullying. The incident happened on the ice during a drill.
2. The person hurt is NOT the captain of the team. The person hurt is a JV player who was brought up to play at the varsity level last week.
3. The concern for the last couple of years is bringing the freshman and sophmores up to play with boys who are much larger and more agile on skates.
4. You are all prosecuting a minor boy who you, dare I say, no nothing about. I am not his mother or even related to him. I know this boy as well as many others and there was NOT an intent to hurt.

Maybe if everyone settled down and worried about getting the facts and not sensationalizing the situation you would see how wrong you are.

This team is made up of fine young men, who I dare say, are more mature than many who have posted here. They need support not finger wagging...

Assumptions are usually not right. How would any of you feel if this was your minor son and a witch hunt was being done. This mob mentality must stop!

When all the facts are in I wonder how many of you will be back here writing about how you needed ot eat your words.

Unlodge the feet in your mouth and be mature adults who gather facts.

A 17 year old hockey player versus a 14 year old team "manager". I can just about picture this in my mind, and it's freaking disgusting! ANYONE that witnessed or had knowledge of this happening and didn’t speak up should be gone (player, coach, administrator, ect.). This exemplifies what a cowardly act is. While I can’t say that a coach should be held responsible for the actions of his team, what he does in response of those actions is his responsibility. If this guy knew it happened and didn’t contact his superior IMEADIATLY he should be hung!

A MESSAGE FOR ALL YOU HOCKEY PUCK ATHENA PARENTS.FORGETABOUT IT SAVE YOUR TACTICS THAT YOU UDSED THE LAST TIME. YOUR NOT DEALING WITH A STEVE ANYMORE. I AM SURE THAT ARE NEW SUPER WILL DEAL WITH THIS SITUATION AFFIRMATIVELY. AND ACT ACCORDINGLY AS THE FACTS DICTATE THE ACTION SHE TAKES TO THE BOARD SHOULD THE FACTS DICTATE.
THIS TIME, I DO NOT SEE THE BOE,DO A REPEAT PERFORMANCE AS THEY THEY DID THE LAST TIME. THE BIG DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THEN AND NOW IS THE BOARD RESPECTS AND TRUSTS HER JUDGEMENT AS APPOSSED TO LACK OF RESPECT FOR MOST MEMBERS FOR ACHROMOVITCH.

Attention Greece Community...Let it be known that Coach Webb allowed Thunder team to wear Tyler's jersey number #5 on their helmets in support of the actions of a BULLY during Friday's Thunder hockey game. What is wrong with the adults that let this take place!

SCATS said...

To 4:07PM ~~ Do you know if that was ONLY the Athena players or did the Odyssey players join in, too? Just so you are all aware, I'm hearing the kid attacked is an Odyssey student. Can't wait to see the school-of-choice parents try to outshout the Athena hockey parents. OA parents should be given a handicap going in ;)

To 3:38: too bad your son didn't tell you the full and truthful account of what Tyler has been doing to terrorize younger kids. There is a huge problem, and part of it is inside your house.
Sure glad those great kids pasted Tyler's number on their uniforms so they could glorify the cowardly acts of brutality on younger kids that they permit to occur. Do they get that behavior from their home environment?

SCATS said...

To 4:42PM ~~ Oops!! Sorry. Yes, FEBRUARY 22nd is Grimshaw's next court appearance. Thank you :)

Anonymous said...

Excuse me but a 6'2", 235+lb senior going up against a 14yr old freshman of significantly smaller stature, while being surrounded and encouraged by his teammates in the locker room, hardly constitutes a "fight". It strikes me as more of a cowardly act - not unlike the bar room scene in "The Accused" - almost as cowardly as the responsible parties in the chain of command who are busy at work attempting to cover this all up.

Who must answer for this? The list includes any player who was in the room encouraging the incident, the team captains, the head coach, his assistant coaches, and the Athletic Director who has the combined team under his jurisdiction.

Instead of teaching the student athletes to respect one another, the adults in this equation are coaching the players on what to say in order to cover this up.

Same thing happened last season when Grimshaw brought an air-soft gun into the dressing room and opened fire on his teammates. Grimshaw pointed the pistol at Assistant Coach Gellar who in turn left the room without saying a word. I'm no expert at school policy but i'm pretty sure that is a reportable incident.

So if someone wanted to see a record of that incident then all they would have to do is go talk to the AD in charge of the hockey team, Josh Lacy, and ask him to produce the document which shows Gellar's report of said incident, right?

If this report were on file then presummably Grimshaw would have been dismissed from the team last year, instead of being welcomed back with open arms and promoted to Assistant Captain from the get go by Coach Webb.

Someone has to be fired over this negligence, just like JoePa was. Instead of spending their energies coaching the players to say that the victim was injured on the ice and even trying to coerce the victim into saying it happened on the ice and not in the dressing room, they (coaches) should be compiling a list of all players who were in the locker room encouraging Grimshaw to commit his cowardly act and dismissing those players from the team right along with Grimshaw. Once that final act of fiduciary responsibility is complete, the coaches should hand in their resignation. Wait, Gellar is not even employed by the school district. Perhaps cummunity service is in order for him after bilking the booster club for a salary he has yet to earn. He had the nerve to ask for a raise this year after failing to report Grimshaw last year. Isn't he a teacher? Makes you wonder why he has time to volunteer as an assistant coach with thunder. Perhaps other districts have higher standards than Greece.

While Grimshaw needs to be dismissed from the team for his actions, stopping there will only treat the symptom, it will not cure the problem. Personally, I feel sorry for the kid. He needs help. Just read his personal reaction to all of this. Some kids crave attention and if they are not able to get it through positive means they resort to negative means. The system has clearly failed this kid. The system has coddled him instead of forcing to him to be held accountable for his actions.

Anonymous said...

When is the school Board going to step up and get rid of this guy. he has had no responsibility for what happens on his team. Last year The same kid bought a air soft gun , on a school bus trip, shot his own teammates and nothing was done. The coaches said they knew nothing about him having a gun.. Give me a break. The Kid pointerd it at Asst. Coach Eric Gellar in the locker room at Scottsville Ice arena, and the players said that he just shook his head and walked out. Good Luck getting a job in Greece Gellar

Ch 13 reported just that this incident happened OFF THE ICE, IN THE LOCKER ROOM. The victim was struck causing him to hit his head against a wall.

Through the twitter link for the Grimshaw kid, I'm able to find several of his teammates twitters as well. Pretty sad to see student athletes like this.

@C_OBrien420 (player retweets: "FUCKIN' GREECE CENTRAL IS ALL BULLSHIT, STEP ON THE ICE THEN YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A MAN FUCKIN RIGGING BUNCH O'PUSSSIEEEES". Also interested in the 420 reference in the twitter name.

@IanCummings30 (player) writes:
"fuck the police" as his heading.

@Jamesvogt2 (player) states: "Teachers are bitches" 7 hours ago.

@Ethanmordenga (player) uses phrases like : "Kush grown organically" in his tweets. Yes, that is a drug reference.

@JTam_17 (player), This kid's twitter page is loaded with marijuana references. Literally evry other tweet is about pot.

These are just a few I found while checking into who Grimshaw follows and is followed by. Really sad this is what is accepted by schools, coaches and most of all parents. I'm sure once this put out there these pages will become blocked.

2. the JV player was attacked beacuse of the super bowl team he liked in the locker room, which resulted in him being bullied
3. My son testified that he hear the captain encourage the beating and also testified that he saw the boy get attacked by Grimshaw

This is my son...he has been mature and respectful to all those involved. And his birthday is 420 Mr. Detective not sure what your comment about that means.

There are obviously many sides to a story that many are not taking into consideration. From the sounds of these there are old and current players parents writing. Be mature enough to say what you have to say and sign it...you know who you are.

Anyone here who believes any parent supports BULLYING is ignorant. No parent I know supports bullying or hazing. There was no beating in the locker room, the team was not cheering on a fight and if you knew the other 29 boys you would see that.

If your grudge is with the coaches go to those who can deal with that. If your grudge is that a small person was skating with a 6'2" that is the way high school hockey goes...we don't love it either but unfortunately the team is not run by weight and height. The injured party would come across someone this size on another team they play throughout the season.

This was definitely hazing... among other things, it was just the latest episode in a series of abuses of the same manager (e.g. in the restroom on the bus to the Ogdensburg tournament...). The "steelers" thing was a trick question halfway through the beating. Perpetrator: "who's your favorite football team?" Victim: "steelers" (or some such). Perpetrator: "wrong answer!", and beating continues.

Parents are definitely part of the problem. Let's not kid ourselves, many parents are not that far removed, maturity-wise, from their own high school days.

On the other hand, I understand that the helmet sticker thing with #5 was stopped by an adult (not a coach) in the locker room - they never made it onto the ice.

Anonymous said...

The tweet that was retweeted was originally posted by the captain of last years greece thunder team. Great leadership year after year...coaches need to be fired

Anonymous said...

Most hazing is a form of abuse. Neither hazing nor bullying should be tolerated. Thoughout the country the tolerance for hazing is diappearing. Greece is way behind. High school is not the army, Kids are not adults.

the original tweet that the captain retweeted was made by the captain of last years team. lots of pot references made on his twitter page as well. great leadership year after year. fire the coaches already.

It's sad to think that Andrea is probably honestly repeating to us what her son tells her. If the rest of us weren't so afraid of what her son and his "thug" posse would do to our kids ("thug" is their self-description off of facebook), maybe we'd use our names too... but we cannot afford to name ourselves, and thereby target our kids.

Anonymous said...

Well folks, most of our esteemed hockey players have now either locked their twitter pages to private or cancelled their accounts all together. Wow, that was quick! But like I said at 6:40, I've already got several copied and printed. The Supt. will have these on her desk this week. If she does nothing with it, the local news will have copies shortly. GO THUNDER!!!

BTW, if it happened on the ice, why does (player) @IanCummings30 retweet "I guess we can't have fun in the lockeroom anymore without being arrested" from (player) @riola_steve? Yea, I got that one copied too.

Anonymous said...

Fyi.... The players DID wear # 5 or the Initials of grimshaw on thier helmets in the game against Fairport. On Saturday a representative from the school came in and talked to the boys in the locker room. They had two choices, keep the number on their helmet and they are dismissed from the team or remove it and "Play Hockey" This was because a parent in the stands called the school Board to complain that Webb allowed this to occur. Do the parents on the team not understand that a young boy got hurt emotionally and physically. yet the coach allowed this to happen. This coach better find a job quick because his "Thunder Money" is about to run out

Anonymous said...

Was on the Greece Thunder eteamz website nice pics of the team and the perps. Clicked on the team rules button guess what "no rules entered" came up. A team with no rules, no wonder this crap is going on and paid for with yes you guessed it your money. To the proud mother of the team captain what is it exactly that you are proud of? The team captain is the leader the team. The captain should be protecting his team mates on and off the ice a leader. Webby you seem to be the de facto hockey expert in sect V well hockey guy hockey is what it is and aint what it aint and what you let go on aint what it is. Get a job.

When are ADULTS going to take over and deal with this crap (is that allowed) and do something about this? Parents have got to stop this now before a kid gets killed. Sports have become more important than education.

This is a terrible event that happened due to some rage that was allowed to be expressed by a 17 year old male and then cheered on by the others. They were getting some satisfaction out of the assault. They all are guilty. The coach that stands by while one weaker person gets constant emotional and physical abuse is like the latent homosexual coach in the play...based on fact.... Tea and Sympathy. He allowed the other boys to constantly harass one particular boy while he couldn't keep his wife satisfied. And he didn't get satisfaction from her.

And the movie that was cited "The Accused" with Jodie Foster was based on a real event. It is part of unleashed human nature to prey upon the weak when there are no boundaries or rules. It seems in Greece that there are many times that those in authority look the other way when someone is being brutalized. Was it not Greece Athena locker room when a middle school wrestler was savagely attacked and it was swept under the rug? Lots of dirty carpets in Greece. For shame!

Instead of all this speculation, finger-pointing and hearsay what do you say we leave this up to the legal system now? Tarring and feathering a minor over allegations isn't setting the best example for any of your children. So instead of questioning the accused's upbringing how about you all focus on bettering yourselves and the upbringing of your own children.

You've all reduced yourselves to the maturity level of high school students when you should be showing your own children how to behave like adults. This situation has obviously hurt people physically and emotionally and you're all only making it worse by contributing to it. If you all think you could have done better in any aspect why don't you put your words into action. Walk the walk.

Sincerely,
MacKenzie O'Brien

To Mackenzie O'Brien ~~ I can honestly say my kids have NEVER EVER engaged in any such behavior, not even close. I can tell you that the fact the "accused's" teammates posted frivolous comments on Twitter shows they DON"T HAVE DECENT PARENTING. They don't appear to understand that this was WRONG! So I'll mind my business (which is running this BLOG, been doing it for 6 yrs.) if you'll stop running your mouth and teach YOUR KID how to be a good sport when playing sports ;)

Does anyone realize a miracle occurred here?

A 17 year old thug put a beating on a smaller younger kid during a school function and not only did GCSD not block the police investigation, Greece PD made an arrest.

Now we get to wait and see if Sandy Babie DA prosecutes the felony level assault and encourages GPD to complete the investigation with additional arrests, or dumps it down to Town Court level.

This needs to be a loud shout to the community on Looserberry's radio show for a week if you want prosecution.

MacKenzie O'Brien said...

SCATS,

What you don't seem to understand is wrong is the fact that you're assuming these allegations are true. Innocent until proven guilty, correct?

You are all acting so self righteous, but if you were really half the stellar citizens you claim to be you would step away from the situation instead of making it worse.

Best,

As a former high school hockey parent, I'm wondering if this is an example of "locker boxing" which is supposedly banned but still goes on. Players square off in the locker room wearing helmets and gloves and pummel each other for the entertainment of teammates. Younger players are pressured to fight even if they are outmatched to "prove their toughness". This is almost never talked about - I only found out it was still going on after my son had graduated. Coaches leave the room, of course.

I can also tell you that teams like this are very close and do not think they play for the school but only for each other. This is fostered by the coach who uses an "us vs. them" mindset to build unity. They will support each other no matter what happens. The common saying among hockey players is "For the boys (FTB)"...never "For the school".

The kids feel like a band of brothers and often their parents are as united as the players. It can be a good thing, but it can also be dangerous as it distorts reality.

Take this from someone who was on the "inside" for many years.

SCATS said...

To Mackenzie O'Brien ~~ I fail to see how exposing the behaviors of these teammates from Twitter posts and the like "makes it worse." It appears to me that it adds to the reality that we're seeing Greece sports have become: violence-driven, win-no-matter-what matches where even friends must take a beating. Please read 12:03PM's description and tell me it doesn't remind you of Lord of the Flies.

Yes, innocent until proven guilty ... but when the "alleged" perpetrator fails to take his arrest and suspension from school seriously, it pretty much tells us we're dealing with street punk mentality.

SCATS said...

To 11:44PM ~~ The accused has been charged with third degree assault, a misdemeanor, NOT a felony.

Not involved in the team in any way but i do know a little of tyler and his family. No one has bothered to mention that he had a 94 gpa and enough credits to graduate without attending another day in that hell hole that athena has become. An arrest for horseplay gone awry could drastically effect his future. And he was singled out why?

I have lived here for 45 years and have been disgusted in the last ten with what this once fabulous place to live has turned into. These schools and these kids are out of control...you cant go to the mall here anymore and believe me that whole police department is up to bs.

Back to hockey...u r all nuts... unless your son truly has nhl potential, you might settle down a little. Its a game for gods sake and one where someone can get hurt. Not really a webby fan myself but he should lose his job? Maybe....how does tylers mom feel about him? Rumor has it that he is not supporting Tyler at all. Thats probably because of the crucifying that took place last time before the fact check....turned out another crazy parent causing a problem that didnt need to be there.....l repeat settle down all of you.

One more thing the cutting and pasting and copying childrens tweets seems a little slanderous and another act of potential damage to a kids future. Im sure that person never inhaled right? Its all embarrassing and why the East side thinks they are so much better. We embarrass ourselves over here....one kid left to graduate and we r out!!!

SCATS, GPD going to Assault 3 on this is an unusual departure from the norm of charging Harassment.

The charge itself indicates the 14yo victim took a hell of a beating which has been medicinally documented.

Frankly as someone well acquainted with a number of parents of youth hockey players from the East side, this incident is pure crap. Greece is sending a clear message that the team is made up of thugs and the parents are worse.

"For the Boys", what a lovely little pretend concept for a bunch of looser punks. Pure inner city gangsta crap.

On top of that, I think the Supt. should make this team MISS THE SECTIONALS. Yeah, you heard that correctly! WHY, you ask? Because someone needs to send a VERY LOUD MESSAGE to the hoodlums that occupy Greece ("These schools and these kids are out of control...you cant go to the mall here anymore") that this kind of crapple is no longer tolerated!! It takes a really loud message to get their (and their parents') attention!!

We all have to be careful what we offer on the internet. Or on interviews on television or youtube offerings. I can see why some would like to leave it to the legal system... where only one person stands accused. But this was not an individual action, it was a group action, taken because of secure knowledge that the abuser had backup. That's how bullying goes, one guy seems to be doing it all, but everyone knows that if he starts to lose control of the situation his friends have his back.

Forfeiting the entire team seems a bit harsh, but maybe benching all of the seniors (or at least the captain and assistants) gets at the right group.

Oh, and maybe passing a "get well" card around the locker room for signatures, for the entire team to sign and send to the victim. The team (starting with the parents!) needs to learn that their focus should be on supporting the victim, not supporting the perpetrator and his teammates/enablers.

But they will never learn. The victim is a "snitch", the ultimate crime in their book.

Please let @IanCummings30 know that his prior heading (see 5:25pm here yesterday) was already copied and printed. Nice to know that today he's suddenly no longer bothered with the police.

Also, must be @TGrimshaw_52 is starting to come to his senses, earlier he retweeted "I don't get how you can get kicked out of school for something like that? #shady.. I got u on a grad party if u want #keg" from @Jrod158. I see that he decided to remove that. Not to worry though, @TGrimshaw_52 responded, "I'll be up there soon when this is done it can happen then" at about midnight last evening. Yeah, it sure sounds like it's being taken seriously.

Anonymous said...

There is a certain hilarious irony in a bunch of anonymous adults demanding people who use their own names take responsibility for words posted online, no?

Anonymous said...

Interesting to note that although use of cell phones is specifically mentioned as prohibited during school hours, @IanCummings30 has several pictures on his twitter that appear to have been taken during school hours, some more disturbing than others. Those are especially easy to copy and send to the district. This Thunder hockey organization is plain ugly the more I look into what these kids are up to. Where is the leadership at home, on the ice, in the district?

Anonymous said...

I'm personally amazed at how many times i see the terms fag and faggot on these kids twitter pages. Where are their parents? Is that really any different than putting racial slurs up? The drug talk by their kids is sad as well. These are supposed to be student atheletes. This team appears to be out of control.

Anonymous said...

I think everyone needs to stop slandering this kid and go on with your lives. Your going on hearsay. Everyone should be treated as innocent until proven guilty and all the immature banter from "adults" is a joke. Let the 2 families and the court system work it out and stop spreading rumors. You have no idea what you're talking about. And stop bad mouthing the boys on the Greece team - you don't know them and they've done nothing wrong. GROW UP!

SCATS said...

To 7:56AM ~~ That's just priceless!

To 7:59AM ~~ I agree about how this was the "effort" of more than one person. Ideally, anyone in that lockeroom who didn't try to stop it was an accessory who should be punished equally with Grimshaw. Also, any adult who wasn't there, but should have been (or who ignored it?) should be fired ASAP. Forfeiting the playoffs is harsh? Hell yess!! BUT the thing is that so much has been covered up for so long in the Greasey Central Sports District that a VERY LOUD, VERY STRONG MESSAGE must be sent! It's time to make examples out of this group of bad boys, regain control & attempt to get things back on track.

To 10:55AM ~~ I don't know which school that kid attends, but don't forget that Odyssey's principal doesn't think her kids should have to follow district policy. She even backed them up for wearing hats after policy was adopted banning them.

To 11:15AM ~~ Sounds like a couple of kids need to be dealt with for sexual harassment on top of everything else. Calling someone those names is bullying, too ;)

Anonymous said...

10:28am, the people you are refering to, the one's who put name with online comments, aren't paying for me to participate in athletics. I'm flipping the bill for them. They, and their coaches, have the responsibilty to represent our district by living by the codes of conduct. Feel free to keep making excuses though!

SCATS said...

To 10:28AM ~~ Keep on laughing. What these kids are up to is FAR from amusing.

To 11:36AM ~~ Which part is slander? Quoting his Tweets? Discussing how he isn't taking his situation seriously? IF he were innocent, he'd be professing that, not laughing at his predicament, like most of us would if wrongly accused. The fact that he is laughing at what happened to himself (the arrest, being out of school) is a behvior bullies who have gotten away with bad behaviors become accustomed to doing.

SCATS said...

To 11:52AM ~~ Excellent point!

Anonymous said...

The person claiming slander is lost. Ever ask yourself why twitter pages, celebrity and otherwise, are constantly being quoted by news organizations? Items put out for public consumption… are public.

Anonymous said...

@9:49 am
Maybe you could do us all a public service by seeing to it that the appropriate Greece Town Justice gets copies of Grimshaw's original tweets mocking his situation before the next hearing on Feb 22? I bet it would make an impact that kid wouldn't forget.

Anonymous said...

SCATS, you’ve obviously got an axe to grind from elsewhere/elsewhen. Think about it. Your position, “Ideally, anyone in that lockeroom [sic] who didn't try to stop it was an accessory who should be punished equally with Grimshaw” is holding a bunch of minors (who have good reason to fear for their personal safety) to a higher standard than what is expected of adults in our society. The mere right to self-defense and neighbor-defense is controversial enough as it is. Few if any would argue an obligation to come to the defense of a victim, except perhaps by notifying authorities. And at least some kids did just that.

You are on to something when you say that a message must be sent, but think it through: to whom does your stance send a message, regardless of whether you intend it to or not? What is the message to those kids who came forward?

Remember: kids have come forward, confiding in those whom they trust (parents, coaches, police). Otherwise we would not be where we are today. Forfeiting teaches them the lesson that the bullies want them to learn, namely that everyone loses when anyone reveals the group’s secrets. Forfeiting strengthens the code of silence. That’s the wrong message, and the wrong audience. Kids need to be encouraged to come forward, not punished for it as a group.

Anonymous said...

MacKenzie, you are out of your league way over your head. Go clean your room or something.

SCATS said...

To 1:15PM ~~ It only teaches them that if people like you emphasize that "snitching doesn't pay" over "helping a colleague in trouble." Wouldn't you want your kid rescued by teammates if the shoe were on the other foot? Or do you prefer that the kids watch and/or cheer on the attacker while he beats the crapple out of your kid, and come forward after the fact? Remember, some injuries won't ever completely heal :)

Anonymous said...

Again, that's not what happened. But just keep posting your hearsay - you obviously have nothing better to do.

Anonymous said...

@1:15- when you say kids came forward, was it before or after they heard about the arrest ?

A smart kid knows that police are trouble. Amazing how it motivates snitching after the deed is completed. It was several days before the school district heard about the problem or the perp was cuffed. Doesn't sound like they came forward right away.

SCATS said...

To 1:49PM ~~ Another good point!

Anonymous said...

To the person who is giving some kids credit for coming forward to report this incident, your praise is not in order. It all comes down to a matter of timing.
When the injured player reported the incident to the police, their is space on that report intended to record names of others who witness the alleged attack or may have knowledge of the incident. It's my understanding that. The victim gave thr police several names of team mates who witnessed the attack the he trusted to tell the truth whe questioned by police.Unfortunately he was wrong as they all recounted a different view of what really happened and where. One of them was the team captain and a class mate at OA. Plain and simply put they all SOLD HIM OUT to protect the accused along with the coach.
Be advised, the police report contains s statement advising the complainant that by signing a false statement it is a punishable crime to so do.Think about that when questioning the victims version of the alleged crime.against
That of the witnesses that CAME FORWARD..after being questioned by the police.

We were at the Fairport game and saw the 5 on the helmets disgraceful. The Thunder parents are easily some of the rudest people in sect 5 cheering when another player is possibly injured during the game. The situation that now exists with the greece team would never have been tolerated in Red Raider athletics, programs athletic staff heads would have rolled next day.

Anonymous said...

Also interesting that many of the tweets these kids put up are during the school day. Gotta love the no cell phone during school hours policy. Must not apply to the mighty Thunder.

Anonymous said...

Regardless of the final out come this unfortunate situation,
Removal of the supervision responsible, it will not end the sports cult that exists at Athena. The long term solution can be achieved by simply eliminating the open enrollment secondary option.
This option has been abused the coaching staffs for football, basket ball and hockey by recruiting talented players who normally attenfed Arcadia or Olympia.Thiis has been going on at that school for sometime. It's all about winning programs. Winning programs get noticed by college recruiters something that the parents want.
This practiced has not gone unnoticed by the staffs at the other high schools. As the Principal at one of the schools that used to have successful programs in the past put to me,."We haven't had successful programs since open enrollment began"
I never could understand the decision to end open enrollment at the elementary level only I think the Super would be wise to end this unfair practice by ending the secondary option and in so doing level the playing field.d

Anonymous said...

So, kids use there phone's in school get over it. That has nothing to do with the issue.

SCATS said...

To 3:39PM ~~ You stopped short of stating the REAL UNDERLYING ISSUE with the sports mentality at Athena in particular. It ALL boils down to $$ !! Yup, the almighty dollar is what drives this insane engine of brawn over brains in the Greece Sports District. The parents and players (and maybe most of the coaches too) will do ANYTHING in the hopes the lil darlin's get a sports scholarship, even if it means lying, cheating, stealing or committing an act of violence against another. Greece can be proud.

SCATS said...

To 3:56PM ~~ Actually it does. It shows the attitude they have towards following established rules. If they feel like breaking the rules is OK, then maybe the next step is breaking the law ... that feeling of entitlement grows until someone reins it in and bursts their bubble.

Also, the cell phones were used to post tweets showing that they are mocking the seriousness of this situation. Major character flaws are now exposed ;)

From an outsider looking in, my understanding is that the 14 year old victim did not come forward and tell his parents, but that another team parent, hearing from their child, informed the victim's parents of what occurred. My understanding also is that the defendant has been leading the hazing / bullying on Webb's team for several years now. I hope the police and DA thoroughly investigate this incident as well as the history of Webb's team for this type of behavior. Enough is Enough. Ask to see the texts that the players received from their coaches trying to get their stories all lined up. Check tapes on the ice. Some solid investigation of tapes, electronic messaging, tweets, etc should get the truth out there and hopefully there will be some major consequences for the players, coaches, parents, administrators, etc. that have been condoning these behaviors.

SCATS said...

I just heard on the news that the York CSD coach who chanted "One, two, three Tourettes!" has been relieved of his coaching duties WITHOUT PROOF of what he did. The Supt. noted there was no proof he didn't do it, either.

Why can other school districts relieve coaches of duty so easily, but Greece is stuck living with the intolerable?

Anonymous said...

I don't agree with the comments being made about how Greece is stuck with intolerable people. Greece is a very well educated place, and talking about how you can't go to the mall anymore because of "Thugs". You are attacking Athena when there are multiple other schools that have probably had something happen within side them just as bad if not worse that you don't pay attention to, because it isn't within your "backyard"

SCATS said...

To 5:35PM ~~ If you were familiar with this BLOG, you'd know that incidents at other schools have been covered in the past. Sadly, Athena seems to have a long history of troubles related to their sports teams, from the wrestlers to the hockey players.

Anonymous said...

Anyone badgering Greece Thunder should just get over themselves. Your all just mad that they've probably beat and your trying to screw them over. What do tweets have anything to do with the incident? Or texting during school? EVERYONE DOES IT. People are just pathetic and trying to get Greece Thunder in trouble. I understand that the 14 year received the concussion on the ice. Well isn't that hockey? If he can't take a hit, why is he playing? Everyone is blowing this out of proportion. Please get over yourselves!

And finally @birgy22 has decided to make his twitter private. Great move genius! This kid was perhaps the most pathetic of any of these kids I looked up. I'm sure his family is proud!

Anonymous said...

The entire situation here seems to revolve around a vendetta targeting Grimshaw's and Webb. Funny how the "injured" was running around at home 24 hours later as if nothing were wrong with him.

Anonymous said...

You people are all fucking pathetic. Go to any high school team these days and you will find the same exact thing as Greece Thunder. Every team had a pothead on their squad. If Section V drug tested, 75% of the student athletes in ANY sport would fail, even those East Side pussies who are probably running this blog. You should worry more about your own team getting scrapped on by Greece than finding tweets from teenagers. You're bunch of fat, middle aged men and their cheating wives who like to find whats trending in the world. Lay off these kids from Greece. They're no different from your little pampered angels, except for the fact that they can continue to win games through adversity like they did back in 2009. You can find em in Utica this year while you are all still bitching about their tweets in your East Side Mansions

Anonymous said...

Funny though how all the players on the team claimed it happened on the ice...It seems as though 2 different stories and instances are being confused, as far as the locker room and practice go.
As for all you so-called "adults", why don't you all act your age and find something better to do than to defame a 17 year old, high school student's name. Grow up.

You guys are all ridiculous. This is and has been apart of every section 5 hockey program for as long as section 5 has been around. I'm a former rival of Athena and I have never had respect for Tyler, but this is getting out of hand. The kid shouldn't play varsity hockey if he can't handle a little hazing. I got my ass beat by seniors everyday when I was a rookie the only difference is I didn't go cry to my parents when it happened to me. What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room, and if you can't handle that then you'll never earn the respect of your teammates. All of you get over yourselves, not one of you knows what it's like to be on a hockey team clearly.

The only one acting like there is nothing wrong with him is Grimshaw. He finally wised up in regards to his tweets. I'm sure someone had to tell him to, perhaps his doting mother? So these "kids" are just a bunch if "thugs", they're "coddled" and "immature". So you're all adults, but hiding behind annonymous. You're going to put yourselfs on a pedestal, condemn someones child, someone's family. You don't know these kids, you don't know these families. Take a look in the mirror. Most of you are no any better than Those you attack. Its easy for you to sit on your high horse, be a pesimist, declare these boys to be drastically out of control and looking for attention. Again look in the mirror. You're out of control. You're looking for attention. Leave this matter to the thunder hockey program and greece central school district.

The main reason i'm making this is to illustrate how utterly ignorant and uninformed you people are. You're supposedly against bullying, but what is it you're doing right now? Bullying.

If you're going to use a player's social network site to judge them as a person, then you're argument is never valid. When i see a posting Degradin Curran O'Brien, its absolutely infuriating. Why don't you do some more research in addition to just looking at his twitter. Curran has been my classmate for 7 years. He was selected as a junior class represntative for the national sponsered "Natural Helpers Program". Representatives are selected by a school conducted of students and staff. He is seen by a good natured, caring, snd selfless individual by both his peers and teachers. Research the natual helpers program, enlighten yourself on the qualities and integrity of character one needs to have in order to be included. Although it might be a little above your capacities, i dont believe they have a twitter.

4/20 is his birthday, not a marijuana reference. When you stop trying dramatize and inflate every minute aspect of ones characte you can make anyone into a bad guy.

For a third time i'm going to tell you to look in the mirror. See yourself as a kid again. Are you embarassed yet?

Here i'm even going to sign my name, something you wise "adults" don't have the confidence to do. You're cowards.

I don't care what anybody else has to say, I mailed copies of the then existing twitter pages to Babs this afternoon. PLEASE NOTE BLOG Administration deleted without posting quite a large number of duplicate comments, comments that said the exact same ideas over & over & over again, and comments that were silly one-liners tonight. It's obvious the hockey team wasn't doing homework, once again. I'm sure the adults who pay for your team will be duly impressed (in a most negative way) by the comments that are posted. They are quite representative of the mentality.

So far, I've seen not a single student comment asking about how the victim is doing. Nor have any shown any sort of compassion, regret or other more appropriate emotions toward the kid who took the beating.

SHAME ON GREECE THUNDER & THEIR SUPPORTERS!

The reason nobodys asking about the kid who supposedly got "beat up" is because nobody cares...we're backing up Grimshaw because he part of the Greece family. Why would anyone care about a kid who's screwing the entire Greece Thunder team over because he can't man up and take a little hazing. This is all complete crap. None of you know what the truth is except the players. Is there any videos of what happened or just going on what the 14 year old said? What a joke this is. #FREEGRIMSHAW

Anonymous said...

Hey Scats.... Did you not see that the "victim" was running around 24 hours after the "incident" while the "accused" has his picture all over the news? The "victim" has a history of getting hurt and the parents attacking the kids he was playing with. Seems to be a pattern here....

Anonymously contacting the Greece Police Department was not the way to handle this situation.... If the "victim" felt threatened he or his parents should have addressed this previously with the coach and school district unless they were out to cause trouble for certain individuals.

Hopefully soon the truth will come out and hopefully Grimshaw's will get the public apology they deserve.

YOLO said...

Okay let me get this straight. All of you adults (I'm assuming you're adults because you are checking a blog about your school district; not because of the way you are acting) because of a child that was subject to bullying.

This is an even bigger deal because the child was a freshman while the "bully" was a senior.

Meanwhile, you people are sitting behind a computer on an anonymous blog, posting links to the twitters of different students, calling them out for what they tweet, making drastic unnecessary conclusions about these children that you do not even know, nor do you deserve the pleasure of meeting.

That, my friends, is bullying. You are grown men and women yet you are sitting disguised by a shiny computer screen while you call out different hard working (school and sport) adolescents. The fact that you posted twitter names from an anonymous account is discussing.

1.) You really have nothing better to do with your time? You are searching the internet for the tweets of different teenagers?

2.) You are seriously going to post these names, directly pointing fingers at minors, from an anonymous name? Thats like writing something on the bathroom wall that makes fun of someone. Everyone can read it, no one knows who wrote it.

But you wouldn't know anything about writing on walls right? Because based on your posts you were all perfect children. Never once did you smoke weed, drink alcohol underage, haze a fellow athlete, joke around with friends. Right? Because if you did take place in any of those activities, you would be a hypocrite.

9/10's of you do not know the true story yet you are sitting on here acting like you were in the locker room.

You were NOT in the locker room and you were NOT on the ice. What gives you the right to sit on here and verbally assault a child as if he is guilty, despite the fact that his guilt has not yet been proven.

I do not know Tyler personally, i do not know what type of a kid he is, but i do know that he is in fact a kid. You people are acting more like children than Tyler or any of the students you have discussed.

Before you people come on here calling out the district as a whole or the kids that embody it, take a good hard look in the mirror.

You all should be disgusted with yourselves.

I am a college student. I am not directly related to anyone on the team. I do not know more than 2 of the players on the team. I graduated from Odyssey. I do have a twitter. I will not post it.

Sincerely,
:)

I'm paraphrasing. You know what, I don't need to know them. It's cliche, but true, actions speak louder than words. I just cannot decide who is worse at the moment. Is it possible that the parents and students were told to stop making comments on social media and this blog. They seem to have gone away after the meeting Tuesday at 6pm. That could have been the reason for the meeting in person and behind closed doors. If they had sent a tweet or text or email there would have been evidence.

As was referenced someplace else, as a former player and parent of a player, I'll bet the farm this was a case of locker boxing, which goes on all the time.

Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVNYU4kAmJM

Note how they still have their skates on - think someone could get seriously hurt?

This is a part of hazing where new players (and this kid supposedly got called up from JV) have to square off with veterans to "prove" their toughness. Coaches leave the room for this kind of thing but they know it goes on.

FACT: The 14 year old has been a manager since back in November and has skated with this team since then. He was not called up to Varsity recently.

As for eliminating hockey from Greece that would be very sad since this is a good program. People are bashing ALL the players and parents who don't even know these individuals. All I can say is take a good look in the mirror before casting the stone at someone else - I am sure you will find faults too with that face looking back at you. NO ONE IS PERFECT.. I believe that further discussion on this site will do absolutely nothing to influence the eventual out come of this problem. The resolution of this situation is now in the hands of those individuals charged with the administration
of the district as it should be. Further back and forth barbs and jabs will only serve to further divide. Nothing good will result from conduct.
Might I suggest that we all step back, take a deep breath
and let our system work.

10:05, I don't need to know anyone who represents themselves, their family name and our district the way I have seen from this group, especially online for all to see. As a past thunder parent why dont you ask many of the former thunder players who have played for Mr. Dan Webb. I can gaurentee you that they will come forward and admit that hazing goes on in the locker room. You people out there know that it begins and ends with the coach. Dan Webb has no disaplin on or off the ice. It starts and ends with the coach. How come we don't see this with Hilton, Webster or any other teams. The coach should be DISMISSED!!!!!!!!!!! Yes thunder parents and players this means FIRED!

GREECE CENTRAL SHOULD BE PROUD!!!

Anonymous said...

What all you people fail to realize that Greece Thunder is no different than any other hockey team around from the Squirt level up through high school or even other sports. The problem here is the "anonymous tip" blew this way out of proportion instead letting the families involved deal with it. There was no reason that any child should be going through this under the microscope of everyone. There have been incidents within Hilton and Webster too that have never been publicized. Our district is no different than any other one around. The past thunder parent probably also never dealt with the issue when their son was on the team - if you don't escalate after talking to the coach when things are not resolved then shame on you!

FACT again - the kid has been on the team and is considered both a JV and Varsity player. If he felt threatened in the past he should have spoken up to his parents and Webb or gone directly to the Athletic Director at the school he attends.

Don't look at the kid wrong or say anything to him since he is back to school today because you can get suspended from school as a result.

To 9:10AM ~~ What you FAIL TO REALIZE is that we are living in a day when kids are organizing gang fights within an hour via cell phones and social media sites, schools are taking seriously ALL incidents of bullying, and the rest of the world sees nothing but violence, crime and drug problems on the news headlines, usually involving young people.

The times have changed, even in the past year. There are anti-bullying policies on the books. "Rough-housing" or any other watered down name you might call what happened in that locker room is no longer tolerated, period. The fact is, it never should have been ;)

Oh, and for the record ... based on the HUGE number of comments received (many not published) from the kids involved and their friends, they've shown me that:

1 - they have NO respect at ALL for any sort of authority figure. That includes parents, teachers, cops, judges or anyone else who might disagree with their lies and behaviors.

2 - they have LOTS of spare time on their hands even while in school, which they use to Tweet, Facebook, BLOG, etc. using perfectly spelled expletives that could make a sailor blush ... but they can't discern the difference between "disgust" and "discussed" though graduation looms in the near future.

3 - they have a twisted perception about their "right to privacy" and about what constitutes "stalking" related to their own posts made on social media sites!! They fail to understand that if you post something with your name, photo and other biographical info for the world to see that it just might be used in a situation like this. For the clueless out there: Greece police monitor the social media sites to solve crimes these days. Threats made against another online constitute harassment.

4 - their parents, coaches and teachers have ALL failed them, based on the items listed previously! These kids are DESPERATE for attention ... even if it's negative.`

We all know that Greece CSD is just a latteral move from the Rochester CSD. Town of Greece departments are shadier than the city of Rocheter too.

Scats please explain how as a teacher i have failed him? I see him once every other day for 90 minutes. In those 90 minutes i don't have time to be teacher, parent, friend, counselor, psycologist, police officer, coach, and whatever else responsibility you deem necessary or obligated because of my salary of 50k. If anyone has failed him it is his parents. Or better yet he failed his parents. Can we hold
him accountable, or will we absolve him of all his sins?

To 10:02AM ~~ When was the last time you spoke up at a BOE meeting about how GCSD policies are NOT applied/followed? When was the last time you cut some slack for a student so he/she could continue playing by awarding a grade higher than what was deserved? When was the last time you failed to discipline a student who behaved poorly? When was the last time you failed to communicate your concerns to a parent or administrator? Kids like him and his teammates are no saints!! They are flagranting breaking rules while in school, as can be seen by the tweets they post from ISS!!!

I agree he is personally responsible too, but until GCSD staff starts applying the rules with meaning, it's just a joke to his kind.

Scats, I know for a fact that DO does not want teachers speaking out against them. If you do you will be targeted. I have read a report about a teacher (we know who he/she is) that outlined that the teacher held "too high of standards for students." Also we know that the "disciplining" of students will only get you in trouble from our Administrators. If you hold students accountable you will be targeted because you spoke out against the administrators. It was also mentioned that the teacher didn't know the curriculum that they were teaching. The worst part about that is they coauthored the curriculum and received recognition from DO for their work!

To 5:18PM ~~ Sounds like the PERFECT REASON to get GTA's "leadership" (cough, cough) doing their job!

Isn't THAT what belonging to a union is for?

Anonymous said...

Yes Scats it is. And because the Union is doing their job Greece is spending a boat load of money (easily $500,000) going after this teacher.

To 5:46PM ~~ If GTA wanted any sort of meaningful change, they'd be at EVERY BOE MEETING dishing on the district dirt. Because they don't, their teachers will keep getting themselves into such jams.
