Isn't it ironic that Dr King, who values education and saw it as a pathway out of poverty, is honored by a day when the schools are closed? Wouldn't it honor him more to have school and use some of the day talking about the values of education, work and helping others? And, by the way spend the rest of the day learning something of value?

To 10:15AM ~~ I wonder how much it would cost to negotiate that back into the GTA contract??

Ummmm, it's a federal holiday, not a GTA contract issue (as much as you want to make it one).

To 3:37PM ~~ Actually, you pretty much just proved my point. Getting teachers to work on a "holiday" would require contractual renegotiation, wouldn't it? ;)

Glad to see you see today as a "holiday". Nope, no racism here, just move along...

To 6:41PM ~~ Today is as much a "holiday"* for the masses as is President's day! In case you didn't notice, most of us worked ;)

* HOLIDAY - a day on which one is exempt from work; specifically : a day marked by a general suspension of work in commemoration of an event

So again why is it racist to call this a "holiday"?

On the other hand teachers cannot work on any of the national holidays. No official business.

Veteran's day and Memorial day commemorate many who have died. Are their deaths not to be revered ? We call those days "holidays" for the public work force.

Although..... COMIDA had a meeting yesterday about giving Xerox free money for creating 400 low paying jobs while Ursula sends the high paying jobs to India.

To 9:33AM ~~ I'm not sure who you are directing that towards.

I think that 6:41PM has spent his life trying to create mountains from molehills.
