BOE Meeting Tuesday, 6:30PM

It's anticipated that the BOE will go into an Exec. Session at 5:30PM to discuss collective bargaining, the employment history of particular person(s) & pending litigation.

AGENDA ITEMS of NOTE
  • Differentiate Accountability Quality Review Process/JIT Process Update
  • 2012 - 2013 Budget Process Update
  • Supt's Recommendations to BOE - Consolidation of Schools
  • AGCEP Contract Approval

SCATS ~~ Will Babs admit that the "new Odyssey" will actually be the same old Odyssey group plus a separate school for the poor who will be kept separate during most classes? Mincing words about school schedules doesn't seem very honest.

And when she adds them all together the whole building will look diverse LOL.

Not to mention all the kids from the city that attend the Olympia building. Now there will be city residents from 6th grade through 12 at Olympia since they won't be able to attend the Apollo building . They are all pretending they live on McCall Rd and the Holyoke apartments. Bonus for Olympia. Better get more surveillance cameras.

To 1:53PM ~~ On paper (and to NYSED) it will all look very copacetic ;)

Why is there no board meeting after the community meeting and before the board votes on the proposal?
Don't they have to meet to discuss and consider the community input?

To 11:15AM ~~ I can give you two possible explanations.

1 ~~ DONE DEAL

2 ~~ They will communicate by phone, email or other means to keep their individual positions and discussion of them outside the public arena. They've been doing this for quite sometime now. Just ask Julia, Gale or Sean ;)

Sounds like business as usual. I was hoping this superintendent would be different.

To 12:16PM ~~ Did you really? Remember, our BOE conducted not one, but TWO nationwide searches, before inexplicably choosing Babs who was right in our own backyard ;)

How many more meetings do they really need, there was one public meeting withbthe committed proposals and a meeting Tuesday to hear the superintendents recommendations...two surveys and another community input the 17th were I am sure it will be taken over by sobbing odyssey elitist parents that will whine enough til they get the bleeding hearts on the board to decide yet again that it's just not a good time to disrupt the precious odyssey families. Then after a week the board will have another meeting to decide that the will probally offer up a
elementary school for closing and for go doing anything to odyssey as to not upset their friends. Another meeting in between is to only let more pleading time. Avdecision has to be made so any transitions or closings can get underway for the next school year. Hope the board doesn't let such exhibits sway the important decisions they have to make which should be in the best interest of all students and what is best for the district as a whole financially. Listening to one small vocal group of parents that want to retain their private school setting that do not want their children exposed to what they see as undesirable students. Are they going to follow their children to work when they grow up and cry to their boss that they don't approve of certain coworkers. The kids will be fine with change it's their parents that cantbhandle the idea of equity for ALL students.

To 2:15PM ~~ I agree with most of what you say. However, the idea of closing Odyssey & West Ridge then creating two NEW schools within schools isn't going to provide the biggest bang for the buck from school closings. Also, the new Odyssey students will be schooled SEPARATELY from the current Odyssey group, although they will be housed within one building. Granted, they might let them mingle for gym class and the bus ride ... but don't count on it.

I'm going to wait to see what the supers recommendations are come Tuesday before I make a opinion. I heard some odyssey parents griping at wegmans today it sounded like they were told by their administration what the recommendations were most likely going to be. From their complaining i did not get the impression that it was going to be two different schools at all, they were complaining about how big the population was now going to be and how they needed to storm the board with survey comments and recruit people to come to the public meeting and demand that odyssey be unchanged, one of the woman pointed out that it had always worked in the past andvwith gayles support they were sure it would be put off for at least another year. I am sure they were pointing the finger at me as I walked past them in my Arcadia sports sweatshirt with my son. They probally were thinking there goes one of those undesirable kids we are trying to shelter our kids from cohabitating with now. I really hope others respond to the survey and show up and not only these kinds of parents that are going to put on a show for thevboard because their sort of bullying tactics have worked before, and in hope the board doesn't fall for it again. It is sad watching adults plan and ploy openly in public for others to see, I am pretty sure many of the kids working at wegmans are students of Greece and attend schools other than odyssey, imagine how they feel listening to this. They certainly were not role models, if that is how odyssey families behave I can positively say I am glad my kids didn't make the cut, I am happy they are attending their neighborhood schools, I now truly believe they will be better off in the future for it. They will not grow up believing they are a superior group, as it seems this is what their parents are teaching them by their behavior. I hope the kids do not get to see that you get what you want by acting this way, shame on the board if they let them.

To 11:32AM ~~ They are worried Odyssey will lose their "small school" feel just by having to share the building. If you read the FAQs district office put out about the plan, instead of responding to the separation issue within the Apollo building, it craftily changes the subject to SCHEDULES. Yes, the TWO SCHOOLS will operate on the SAME SCHEDULE ... other than that, never the twain shall meet ;)
