GCSD Loves To Punish "Complainers"

 Attention ALL Craig Hill Parents!!

From a parent ...

So yesterday I find out bus 734 from CH Elem. is forcing kids to sit with the opposite sex on the ride home. This is grades 3-5. All so the bus is quiet. Is this called for? I called the bus garage and was told they are doing this for the reason of keeping the bus quiet. Just wait until something happens on the bus when a 3rd grade girl is stuck in a seat with a 5th grade boy. And if you challenge it they stick your kid inthe front seat by themselves. Like they are in trouble..... REALLY??? Wish I had a school list for all the kids to let the parents all know about this!!!

SCATS ~~ Don't district employees realize this is a form of bullying also?

UPDATE 12/8/11 ~~ Situation resolved! Parent notified that driver & attendant have been reprimanded.

sure hope they are providing cootie spray... hand sanitizer has been proven not sufficient protection against cooties.

SCATS said...

To 2:26PM ~~ Ha ha ha! I hear that cooties are no longer just a problem for the boys lol

SCATS would complain if they did nothing as well...

To 2:56PM ~~ Doing nothing to resolve a parent complaint is what they usually do ... and that amounts to ignoring the trouble. So of course I'd complain.

This complaint is a joke, right?

Lawd forbid! Boys and girls sitting together on the bus.

And OMG, mixing 3rd graders with 5th graders. 10-year-olds siting with 8-year-olds! It's just a travesty of justice. An environment ripe for sexual harassment.

Obviously, the only solution is same-sex buses, segregated by age.

To 3:33PM ~~ No, it most certainly is NOT a joke. Remember Kinney? GCSD had no idea we had a repeat sex offender/pervert riding one of the buses as an authority figure. So the idea that a 5th grade boy COULD do something to a younger, smaller girl & it would go unnoticed is NOT outside the realm of reality. If YOUR kids had been on Kinney's bus, I bet you'd be singing a different tune ;)

I know someone that is a bus monitor and you all have no clue as to what goes on, on the buses. They get kicked, spit on and tripped in the aisle. Some of you should ride a bus and see the crap they have to take from the kids day after day. As far as I am concerned, they don't get paid enough for all the crap they have to take on a daily basis. It is the drivers to get the kids home safely and not be distracted by loud mouthed, arrogant kids that disrupt the bus.

Not only is the author of this blog, an educator, a teacher, a philosopher, a rogue politician, but she is now an rn, md, msw, phd?

To 3:46PM ~~ I have a pretty good idea. If you don't know, ask a kid. They will usually tell you. I have a few good friends who are drivers. The discipline problem should be dealt with by district office. Riding a bus should be approached as a privilege that can be lost. Having said that, anyone with any skills as a parent knows that forcing the girls to sit with boys is likely to create more difficulties than it resolves.

Why don't the drivers with problem kids on their routes demand disciplinary intervention?

To 4:13PM ~~ And now transgendered, according to you ;)

I am sorry but if kids are being unruly on the bus then the schools and transportation dept needs to take control of this situation. They have no one to blame but themselves. The rules about behavior for riding the bus need to start from day one. If the kids do not comply then they don't get to ride the bus period.

I rode a bus for years to school and the schools and bus drivers did not put up with any crap. We could talk, sing, read a book but we COULD NOT yell, use foul language, change seats without permission or throw stuff. If you did you were off the bus for a week. And we did not have bus monitors to check on our behavior either!

I am tired of people complaining about how bad it is on the busses. Take control the situation and it goes away! Do nothing and this is what you get. there are times when people in the district need to grow some.

To 5:21PM ~~ Well said. It is a problem because the powers that be have allowed it to become one.

Naw. I'd pretty much be singing the same tune that a 10-year-old boy isn't a 67-year-old pedophile.

It's also not outside the "realm of reality" that my kids' school bus could be broadsided tomorrow by a gasoline tanker and everyone could die in a fiery explosion, making it moot whether my 8-year-old daughter had to sit next to a 10-year-old boy.

Why do you hate little boys so much you see them all as potential sex abusers?

Who knew you were such a Catharine MacKinnon fan?

Interesting picture for the person that thought of this "solution". Each seat with a "couple". Good for their pictures as they fantasize. Sounds innocent at first but not so much upon reflection. Whatever get's his motor going.

Bus drivers & Attendants write referrals all the time and nothing is done. It has become a joke. And remember, not all buses have attendants. It is then up to the driver to keep his/hers eyes on the road and keep discipline of 40 -50 kids at the same time. just think what goes on in your back seat X 20.

SCATS said...

To 7:06PM ~~ That's really disturbing!!

To 7:11PM ~~ If they write referrals & nothing happens, why don't they take matters higher? They could go all the way to Bab's office, you know? By the way, these folks work in a union, yet I've NEVER heard their reps complain about such stuff at a BOE meeting. Must not be happening ;)

I am a bus monitor. You people in this town have NO idea what we (and the drivers) put up with. These kids (not all..there are still alot of really good kids out there) yell, scream, stand up and do whatever the hell they feel like. When you do talk to them about following the rules, you hear F-OFF, F-YOU, etc. or the bad ones are just defiant and do what they want. WE DO WRITE THEM UP. Some get into trouble...some don't. It is very frustrating for us to have these kids on our buses day in and day out that feel it is a free for all, knowing full well that more than likely there will be no consequences for their actions. I hear "go ahead and write me up, I won't get into trouble, my Mama don't care!" How about that! We try, believe me we do. Most of the time the kids don't get kicked off because they have no other way to school other than the bus. So we are stuck! I wish they would allow for some of you who have commented in this blog to ride along for a day to see exactly what I mean. It would open up alot of eyes in this district if that were ever possible..especially a ride along on an Apollo, Longridge or Lake Shore run (really, any middle school). I love my job, and I do my best to help these kids, but there is only so much I can do!

SCATS said...

To 8:43PM ~~ I can't speak for the others, but I have a pretty good idea about what you are talking about. Still, why isn't your union shouting to the BOE/Supt. about the discipline issue?

They are still forcing the boys to sit with girls. NOT ACCEPTABLE. They are 3-5th grade kids. If the aide and bus driver can't handle the noise then they are in the wrong profession. Only takes a second for something bad to happen on a bus. Just encouraging it by having them FORCED to sit this way!

Anonymous said...

OK...So you don't want girls and boys sitting together on the bus, right? Is it ok for them to sit next to each other in the classroom?? What is the difference? Sometimes they buddy up kids at school and it might be a boy and girl "buddy". Couldn't something happen at school just as much as on the bus when the teacher isn't looking? RIDICULOUS! Then if this is a concern for you, DRIVE YOUR KID TO SCHOOL yourself!

SCATS said...

To 11:21AM ~~ Apparently it's not as "ridiculous" as you claim. My understanding is that Babs has intervened and gotten this situation corrected. We already know from the predator we employed that LOTS of things happen on buses that don't get observed. I think undoing this idea was prudent. Classrooms & buses are completely different.

SCATS... Where did the discussion go in which you criticized a poster's spelling and capitalization? (Not sure which thread it was under.) I posted a comment critical of you and, lo and behold, the entire conversation seems to have disappeared!

SCATS said...

To 6PM ~~ Your over-active imagination is at it again, I see. First of all, I did not correct anyone's spelling. I did tell the person who resorted to name-calling that Christian should be with a capital "C." It's all still on the thread where it started. No conspiracy here ;)

Did you forget to leave your trail of breadcrumbs, Hansel?

SCATS... if you can point me to the conversation I was referring to, I'll be the first to apologize.

SCATS said...

To 6:23PM ~~ You're right, you would be the first and I don't believe you. Call me skeptical. It's on the thread with the car larcenies story.
