School Consolidation Podcasts Finally Posted

SCATS ~~ Well, well, well ... so closing down West Ridge & sending those kids back to their other schools IS AN OPTION ON THE TABLE after all!

I really enjoyed hearing Sue Meier explain how she got caught with her panties down in planning her PTSA meeting to address the status of School Consolidation in GCSD. I notice she FAILED to mention that one reason for looking at school closings is simply because WE HAVE MUCH MORE CAPACITY THAN WE NEED!

What sense would it make to close Kirk Road and move the kids to Parkland? We live off of Flynn Road - not exacly around the corner from Parkland. Don't think the change would save in fuel costs. How about close Kirk Road and make Paddy Hill k-5? Is there a map available that shows the feeder pattern of all of the Greece schools?

To 8:39PM ~~ I searched the district's website & found nothing.

Pattern, you want a pattern go to Joanne Fabric and buy Simplicity. We GCSD employees don't need no steenekn pattern, we got the time tested eenie meenie miney mo system all interlaced with who needs a favor. Then we enter cookies into the computer, every school needs a proper ratio of good cookies for bake sales.

Kids don't pay union dues, they don't even have a union, and we don't care about no kids. All we care about is UNION. We even care about keeping UNION teachers employed. We might not have kids, but we got Union, and us UNION members help each other out.

Why in the world is there NO consideration for a neighborhood k-5 structure for all elementary schools?

Why close a single school when we could probably close 2?

Why continue school of choice when there is no educational advantage to the entire district?

Why not address concerns over transportation costs?

Why is OA not on the cutting table also? IB programs are more costly to run than AP programs and there is NO evidence that IB kids do any better in college than AP kids. If we want smaller "schools with-in schools" than why do we need OA? The sibling rule is unfair and I heard nothing in the podcast that would DIRECTLY address the lopsided demographics of OA. Pulling kids from the neighborhood may sort-of work but according to Meirs OA already pulls from the neighborhood- the white more affluent kids that is.
Closing all SOC and sending those kids to neighborhood schools should be on the table. WHY ISN'T IT??

To 10:11AM ~~ From the ideas I'm hearing, there is going to be an EXPANSION of programs which means we won't see that much savings in closing any building. By creating the mini-middle schools, we can hang onto or maybe even enlarge the numbers of administrators, teachers, etc. that we employ now. Maybe our goal should be to spend $20K/student by 2014. And don't forget, we can't let anything happen so that the Pinebrook kiddies end up feeling less "special." ;)

To 10:59AM ~~ Well, at least we finally heard Suzie M tell us what we knew all along. Odyssey is the escape hatch for parents seeking to avoid the Olympia HS "experience" for their precious progeny.

Close Kirk Road. The building has no walls for heaven sake. It could easily be knocked down and more houses built. Make Paddy Hill k-5. There's plenty of room if they planned right and moved pre- k out of there. Get rid if signature schools. Make all schools k-5 I'm pretty sure that will help with transportation costs. Keep Odyssey, Greece needs something to be proud of.

The majority of school board members were elected with the support of schools of choice and the continuation of schools of choice.
Remember?

THE DISTRICT HAS NO MONEY AND IS EXPECTED TO DO MORE WITH LESS -it is a perfect storm!!! I say again, the demographics of SOC STRONGLY predict that those kids will do fine on state tests NO MATTER where they attend school in Greece. This is a statistical FACT. I am not proud of SOC- they are racist and classist - sorry to offend anyone but the facts hurt sometimes.

To 1:05PM ~~ Let's not get into name-calling, even on a very general level here, OK? Suffice it to say that their practices, especially revolving around the secretive lottery make tham appear to have racist and classist motivations ;)

Scats, but it is OK for you to use a sexist remark to describe Sue M. Why don't you begin with your own suggestion, better yet why don't you just go....................(fill in the blank)

To 1:24PM ~~ What "sexist remark? " About getting caught with her panties down? Should I change it to say her tighty whities? Feel better with that? By the way, don't worry, I'm not going anywhere ;) I really enjoy annoying the crapple out of people like you too much :D
